Long time no see

Long time no see old friend : )

I hope the day is treating you well : - jc37 09:46, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

  • Yeah, dipping my toe in and seeing if I can cope. Hope you are good too. Hiding T 09:51, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, yes. And just so it's said: Wikipedia's a better place with you here than without you, imnsho. - jc37 09:57, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
That's very kind. I'm not sure I recognise the place anymore, but maybe that means I can concentrate on content. I've learnt a lot of interesting things the last four weeks, which is good. I'm aware that some of my legacy will be here, even more so with the sad news of User:DGG passing. Bronisław Rakowski, Minnie T. Wright, Fred Gray (attorney), Thomas Reed (Alabama politician), 1903 Gainesville, Georgia, tornado, Capitol Park (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), William H. Tunnard, Ersa Poston, Neeta Mehta and Florent Indalecio have all captured my eye and my hand. Hiding T 10:04, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
That was sad. I guess with Wikipedia working on its second decade, we're going to run into a bit of that. But it's definitely a bit jarring to the system.
I do a little on content, but the last time I tried to help someone with content, they apparently were more interested in adding their edits, than collaboration, or even accuracy. (They had a draft rejected, so they apparently just decided to implement anyway. They have a block log for such things in the past - and yet, I tried...) And after giving a lot of time and opportunity, and receiving a lot of WP:IDHT, my free time became more limited, and I just walked away. See also Talk:Justice_League/Archive_2#Rewriting.
It seems that, every time I see a page that really could use some organizing and rewriting/developing, I remember that nonsense. And some days, I just soldier on, but other days I just go back to just fixing small edits as I see them. Hopefully some other editor willing to deal with such nonsense will come along. (That wasn't a hint, just more of a "there's always another editor".)
Wikipedia hasn't pushed me away, but there are days it seems to be trying awful hard lol.
Anyway, I usually don't do a whole lot with non-fiction outside of artists/performers, but I'd be happy to take a look at those articles, and see if there's anything I can help with. - jc37 13:29, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
I went around the block with the same editor at Superman, one of the reasons I walked. They have WP:OWN issues, as can be seen by the line I rewrote the Superman article a few years ago. Do you like the Superman article as it is now? My work is in there too.
Feel free to look at anything you want. I'm enjoying trying to source stuff, retain and add, and trying to keep away from anything involving deleting or conflict. Hiding T 13:37, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
I'm very sorry to hear that.
    And sure, happy to help. - jc37 13:50, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Minnie T. Wright

Was doing a google search just now, and found: [1] - Images are not my strong point by any means, but maybe that can be added to the article?

I also found another piece of hers: [2].

I'll keep looking to see what I can find. I'll admit, this is kinda fun today : ) - jc37 13:50, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

And here are some more links. Hopefully these do not duplicate what you've already found.

[3]

[4]

[5]

[6]

[7]

This interview is of the person who discovered that was written by her - [8]

And this pdf lists her as president of the Mass. women's clubs

[9]

And apparently, The words for "Like as the hart" is Psalm XLII - [10]

She was also apparently a member of the Women's relief corps - [11]

And this is a reference of its time, I guess. Not sure if this is info that should be added to an article. - [12]

I hope these help : ) - jc37 14:23, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

edit - pulled this one from the above.
This pdf is interesting:

"So also did women like Mrs. Rosa Brown, who gave her address as the Women's Service Club and served as chairman of the executive board of the Massachusetts State Union of Women's Clubs, and Mrs. Minnie T. Wright, a formidable force in the Daughters of Elles. These women seem to have come onto the executive committee largely in the early 1930s. Reid began to sell tickets to the annual banquet in 1933and appeared on the executive committee in 1935. Mrs. Wright appeared on the executive committee in 1933, Mrs. Hall in 1929 and Dr. Hall in 1939 (they were never on simultaneously), and Mrs. Brown, along with Con- stance Ridley, in 1927"

[13]

So that's apparently "Daughters of Elks" - copy/pasting a google document is apparently hit and miss : ) - jc37 14:28, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Neeta Mehta

So, this was a bit more challenging. I saw "...and an author", and thought I'd see what I could find.

For one thing there is a Nita Mehta (chef and publisher) which muddies up searches - google keeps wanting to be "helpful" lol

For another, I'm not sure if the health-related articles and books refer to this actress.

And then I found - [14] - which, if it's her, is about her father, who may also have been noteable. - jc37 14:55, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

And recentism strikes again. Reminds me when I had to argue the notability of Jack Benny...

Google isn't turning up much (there's a modern ryan charles and a charles ryan mixing in the results). Here's what I found so far:

https://www.vintagefootballers.com/product/ryan-charles-image-1-crystal-palace-1908/

https://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=111&player=980

Hope this helps. - jc37 22:48, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Have to ask....

Where have you been hiding, Hiding?(hehe) You were away when I joined but glad to you are back and appreciate the work you are doing. As to the above AfD, one of the BIG changes while you were away is WP:NFOOTY no long exists. I hope this and other changes do not push away again. S0091 (talk) 19:50, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

  • Hello. I've been living a life thanks for asking. WP:NFOOTY didn't exist when I started, nor truly did WP:N until I picked up a few threads here and there. Curiously, find myself wanting to ask which aspects of the work I do that you appreciate? But yes, you are correct in that I think I need another break, most likely permanent, but it was fun to try again. I don't think my idea of Wikipedia matches with other people's ideas and the conservative is winning over the progressive. It's intriguing to see that the GNG is going to be my lasting legacy on Wikipedia, it was something I really hoped would foster collaboration but I find myself more and more agreeing with the people I collaborated with back in the day. I think it has destroyed collaboration and driven a lot of good editors and decent little articles from Wikipedia. So frustrating that so many people seem to want to prevent people learning or acquiring knowledge. I wonder whether there's a power trip or an ego issue, somehow, that people see themselves as guardians rather than the blockers they are. It's certainly food for thought. It's been great trying to create and educate, but it's amazing to see how reactionary and how quickly people act now. No sense of engaging another author, of looking, of waiting, of playing a long game. It's not the now that matters, there is no deadline and collaboration is key. Collaboration means discussion, means talking and building consensus and engaging people, not closing the door and picking the venue and failing to discuss. An article talk page exists for a reason... leads me to the idea that Wikipedia exists for a reason, to be something other than Brittanica et al; one hopes it will prevail and be that which it could be: "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing." The sum of all human knowledge! Imagine giving people access to that, rather than just the bits we'd prefer them to have! It takes better people than me to decide what's worthwhile. But I get the sense that my contributions aren't wanted, and that's fine. It would be rather hard to decide otherwise or reach a different conclusion, when additions someone makes are listed for deletion so quickly and with so little thought for what they could be or for any form of collaboration, wouldn't it! I'll let Wikipedia exist in my imagination; it is a far better thing there, a tool for learning rather than a bureaucracy. Hiding T 11:07, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
As far as what I appreciate goes to how I came across you, which is someone rolling up their sleeves and working on some drafts, namely those started by FloridaArmy. Most editors do not pay much attention to draft space which is unfortunate. While there is a lot of crud to wade through in draft space, there are ones with real potential.
I entirely disagree your contributions are not wanted. You will win some and lose some for sure, but like you like say its a long game. As an AfC reviewer, I suppose I am inherently a guardian/blocker and one who likely fits "conservative" in your view (maybe?) but I have certainly become less conservative over time because of editors like you. With that, I personally would like you to stick around but not if its going to cause more frustration that its worth to you...or really any frustration, life's short. What ever you decide, wish you the best Hiding. S0091 (talk) 19:33, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

fyi

I hope you enjoy your Wikibreak/vacation. I'll miss seeing you around (again), but if anyone's deserving of a vacation, you are : )

Just a quick fyi, in case you didn't see it. The eventual result was "keep".

I wish you well, my friend. - jc37 17:16, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Argosy/Jack Kirby

Hi -- back in 2018 you added this to the article on Argosy. I'm working on the article, and don't have access to that source. Is there any chance you could send me a photo or scan of that page? Thanks for any help. If you don't still have it, I can try asking at WP:RX or the comics WikiProject. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 19:13, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
