Hi,
appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Username
I have removed the report about your name from WP:UAA. While it may or may not be in violation of the policy I don't think it is a clear enough violation to enforce action at this point. This does not prevent someone from trying to form a consensus of WP:RFCN, if that happens then whatever consensus that is arrived at will probably be followed. Until then I think we can just carry on. HighInBC 22:10, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- @HighInBC: Hello and thanks for the information (and the time you spent last night (local Poepkop time) on someone's userpage), yes even I could live with a consensus opinion, strange that involved IP cannot. But, question: what would consensus be if negative, "alter name" or "block", in other words, will I be given time to change my username (I do not know how long that takes, 1 or 2 days?) or is an admin then "just" going to block me without informing me first of the consensus result? Thanks in advance for answering, Poepkop (talk) 13:22, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Poepkop, you can be 'shit head', just don't act like one! . Have you ever seen the movie Alien Nation? 220 of Borg 03:53, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- @220 of Borg: Hi, well, yes, I explained in those texts elsewhere that Dunghead or Foghead is the best translation as that is how we always used it, but one person keeps on insisting on the literal translation, which imho does not confer the meaning of the term. Consensus might be an option, resistance is futile after all. :-) I do not think I saw the movie/series Alien Nation, I might want to check it out at our local dvd rental, sounds nice from the wikipage (or did I miss something now in relation to "shit head" and "Alien Nation" here?). I did see in the media that the latest Star Wars movie seems to be a success, but I am not sure if I may talk to a Borg about Star Wars ;-)? And no I hope I never act(ed) like a "shit head", as you say :-) Poepkop (talk) 13:22, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry for being a bit obscure. (sounds like boofhead might be an Australian English equivalent to 'Poepkop')
The chief human character in Alien Nation is Sykes. In the language of the aliens his surname can be interpreted to mean, ... one guess. [1] 220 of Borg 13:37, 19 December 2015 (UTC)- I see, I missed it indeed lol :-) Thanks. Poepkop (talk) 14:35, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

- Hi Poepkop, Browsing through Wikipedia I noticed your username. I have no interest in seeing you or your username removed from Wikipedia, but let me share my thoughts on this situation. I think you're Dutch like I am, but since this is the English Wikipedia I'll keep my message in English. Are you familiar with linguistics and semantics? Sometimes, things can get lost in translation. A chair is "stoel", right? Try to translate "gezellig" to English; there isn't a one-on-one translation of the word. You have to think of social, cultural and linguistic differences. So to me, "poep" isn't offensive or vulgar by itself. Words like "schijt" and "stront" are more offensive and vulgar, while "drol" is more comically, yet they all refer to, well, human feces. It's more factual, "poep". I understand though, that the English word "poop" might have a more negative connotation to some.
- That being said, the "rude" part in your username is actually "kop", to me a least. In Dutch, we use "hoofd", like "mensenhoofd", "afdelingshoofd" or "hoofdpijn". The word "kop" is more used in a negative way, from "hou je kop" to "wat een lelijke kop". If your headache is really bad, you would say "koppijn". I think this comes from using the word "kop" also as a noun ("zelfstandig naamwoord") like "kop koffie" or "kopstoot", being more of a "thing" and not necessarily part of the human body. So to me, "Poephoofd" would be a more friendly username, but I wouldn't urge you to change it or anything. Kind regards, happy editing en een goede jaarwisseling toegewenst! --Soetermans. T / C 14:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello @User:Soetermans, thanks for your input on this, erm, issue ;-) I would tend to disagree somewhat with the use of "kop" being necessarily offensive, as I explained earlier and elsewhere, but as another example of what I think is a (imho) not rude compound containing "kop", the word "slaapkop", for someone who slept / sleeps too long, or spends most of his days sleeping. Here, the "softened" compound "slaaphoofd" does not exist (at least in the online Van Dale). Also one can find the word "bloemkop" ("flower head", i.e. the plant) being used to describe the size of a flower on a plant: e.g. "bloemkop = 25 cm". Also, a cat "geeft kopjes", a sweeter expression for his "kop". I understand various people may have various opinions about this, obviously. I have been educated as a chemist / biologist, and probably from there, for me, there is no such negative charge for the word "kop" when applied to a human, (as we are very close to other creatures), with the exception of typical insults like "rotkop", "kankerkop" etc (pardon for mentioning) of course. Another neutral fashion for th euse of "kop" is in anatomy, as in the "kop van een gewricht" (~ head of a joint). Also, I feel a kind of connection with nature that transcends issues like names given to things, though that is likely not the first thing someone Dutch thinks when reading / hearing "Poepkop". (I explained earlier already "poepkop" was used where I grew up and even in my student's days we called ourselves poepkop for doing something not so clever, I live in another country now; also, where I grew up we used "kop" and "hoofd" for animals interchangeably so there was not some clear distinction between the 2, so anyway it is not supposed to be insulting or anything). Yes, "poephoofd" I could have done as well, had it occurred to me at the time I created the account, but probably the pain - as far as WP policy is concerned - is in the "poep"-part, so if I do change it, it is likely something quite different. Actually there are some more notes below, if you scroll down, under section header "hahahah" from some other wikipedians about the name, and/or lingual interpretation issues. Of course, if I change my name, I cannot guarantee someone somewhere in the world might consider it local slang for something (see the facebook example mentioned below, about different interpretations of the same word) ;-). Yes, I wish you a Happy and Fulfilling 2016!

FYI: User:7&6=thirteen reliably works as a ping.
Even when they are speaking the same language, people misunderstand one another all the time.
There is a lot more to language than mere words. Thus the difference between "translation" and "interpretation. Context, accent, sentence structure, body language, intent (subjective by speaker and listener/writer and reader) and assumptions by the speaker and listener are all part of the mix. I've made a good living hearing those cases. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 16:47, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- @User:7&6=thirteen When I was younger I was fascinated by the idea of being able to speak with animals (this legend of Francis of Assisi, but also common thing in fairytales and many other stories), one way or the other. But on the other hand, maybe it is better this way ;-) It would be nice if one could speak with one's pets though, sometimes one wonders what an animal thinks (if anything, of course). Yes, your point as to varying interpretations, contracts being differently explained would be an example, I fear? ;-) Poepkop (talk) 16:29, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello
Hello, I recently made one correction and added two long warning notices to two Wikipedia pages on the Catholic religious order known colloquially as the Josephite Fathers. The two Wikipedia pages in question were/are titled "Josephite Fathers" and "Society of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart." As I discovered to my surpise and alarm this morning, someone had recently deleted almost all of the history of this religious order that used to be on Wikipedia by, shockingly, removing names and references to all European and white American priests and other members of the order going back to the founding of the U.S. order by Irishman John Slattery in 1893. The only names and historical accounts remaining were to a few of the black priests (and not even all of them, as accounts of some of their most famous and pioneering early black priests were also deleted) and recent black superiors of the order. I just discovered this shocking and fraudulent vandalism to the earlier, historically-correct Wikipedia pages on the religious order as I sought to check a date in the Wikipedia entry this morning via the Wikipedia app on my phone. I am an historian who has been researching the early history of the U.S. Josephites for several years and have made quick consultations of the previously-correct Wikipedia entries on the Josephites many times. Who are you and what are your qualifications on this subject? A few minutes after I made the correction and added the notes this morning, you removed them, and did so without reinstating the historically-correct, unvandalised former Wikipedia pages on the religious order, as requested in my note. If you would like to learn more about this religious order and confirm my complaint, there is a long academic record of books and articles on this order, most notably Stephen Ochs, Desegregating the Altar: The Josephites and the Struggle for Black Priests, 1871-1960 (Baton Rouge: LSU Press, 1990). Please kindly reinstate the full, historically-correct Wikipedia page on the Josephite Fathers that existed on Wikipedia prior to the vandalised version that I discovered this morning. IP 66*87.81.5
- IP, if you have concerns about the actual content of said articles, please go to their respective Talkpages (each Article has a Talkpage for discussions pertaining to the content) and write down your concern there (your "warning notices"), surely it will be followed up, please do not insert it into the actual Article. And no, this John Slattery, that was inserted with this edit [8], was born in 1962 and therefore can impossibly be the founder of something that was founded in 1892/3. pending changes reviewer/rollback
Hello Poepkop. Your account has been granted the "rollbacker" and "pending changes reviewer" user rights. These user rights allow you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes and quickly revert the edits of other users.
- Please keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin).
- The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection enabled is located at Special:StablePages. You may find the following pages useful to review:
- Wikipedia:Reviewing, the guideline on reviewing.
- Wikipedia:Pending changes, the summary of the use of pending changes.
- Wikipedia:Protection policy#Pending changes protection, the policy determining which pages can be given pending changes protection by administrators.
Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of reviewer or rollback. If you no longer want either of these user rights, contact me and I'll remove it, alternatively you can leave a request on the administrators' noticeboard. Happy editing! - What is "original research" about content with references (regardless of who added it)? And no, I think I will leave my ass in peace. Poepkop (talk) 18:19, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- Having a source doesn't mean it's not original research. The source has to say that the incident was a terrorist attack and attribute it to Islamists, or else it's OR to call it an "Islamist terrorist attack".
