Hi Ixfd64, thank you for your support in my Rfa! It passed with a final tally of 86/0/0. If you need help or just want to talk let me know! Again, thank you! – Dakota ~ ° 23:25, 3 March 2006 (UTC) [reply]

[edit]

I withdrew my RfA seeing some very valid concerns about my lack of time on the project / lack of actual articles (some 95% of my edits were vandal reverts). If you want I'll let you know if another RfA comes up with my name in it in the future. Again, thanks for your support and I'm sure I'll see you around :) -- Tawker 08:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your unblock of User:Wick%C2%ADin%C2%ADator

[edit]

I have re-blocked this user, as his name contains two instances of an invisible character 0xAD "SOFT HYPHEN". I'm surprised you didn't notice this while unblocking, as I had to be rather clever to avoid error messages in order to execute the re-block. — Mar. 6, '06 [10:04] <freakofnurxture|talk>

  • Ah, no wonder Curps blocked that account. However, this issue could have been avoided altogether had Curps used a more descriptive block summary. --Ixfd64 10:11, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tawkerbot2

[edit]

Ok, thats our first bug in a while. It disregards copyright violations as blanking so it won't kill those. As long as the copyvio tag is included its fine. What page was it? We need to take a look at it and see why tawkerbot2 was reacting.

Again, sorry about that and thanks for letting me know! In 250 edits thats our first normal operation bug. -- Tawker 04:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, apparently joshbuddy overhauled the codebase so I'm not sure if it would be relevant -- Tawker 04:50, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This user was blocked by Freakofnurture, you, and Curps. He has contacted me and stated he didn't choose the username with ill intent, and wishes to contribute. I am contacting all three of you to determine if there is indeed strong consensus that this name is inapropriate. Please respond on my talk page so all responses are in one place. Thank you so much! Thanks for your support in my RFA. The final vote count was (66/2/3), so I am now an administrator. Please let me know if at any stage you need help, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an admin. Have a nice day! Stifle 17:02, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look, if your going to spend your time unblocking every idiot who types with his elbows, I would really like to know your theory as to how this account might have been created in good faith, and what benefit there might possibly be in unblocking it. It escapes my imagination to think it might be possible for anyone to remember this registered username for a second login, because it's obviously a throwaway account, just like about two-thirds of the others, but, um... if it helps you sleep at night. — Mar. 10, '06 [00:19] <freakofnurxture|talk>

  • Some of those accounts were blocked with undescriptive block summaries. I was reblocking them using more descriptive summaries. If you see any accounts that I may have forgotten to reblock, please feel free to block them again. --Ixfd64 00:48, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: squidward

[edit]

Actually the way I usually do it is one IP at a time. Load a squidward diff, click on the block button for the squidward IP first, then go to the contribs, and hit the rollback buttons in mass from there, using a bunch of tabs. This automatically avoids reverting the wrong edit. — Mar. 19, '06 [20:06] <freakofnurxture|talk>

I agree. They could contact me if they want it approved. One user already did before. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 21:52, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree with that as well. Alternatively, when requesting approval on Wikipedia talk:Bots, bot owners should post the username they plan to use when registering their bot accounts. However, the problem is that malicious users can register those names before the real owners do. I guess CheckUser is there for a reason. :) --Ixfd64 21:55, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GoldenBauhiniaSquare.png/jpg

[edit]

You recently reverted my substitution of GoldenBauhiniaSquare.png with the JPEG version GoldenBauhiniaSquare.jpg. I had made the substitution in accordance with Wikipedia:Image use policy#Format, which says that photographs should be in JPEG format. There are good technical reasons for this recommendation: for example, the thumbnail at Golden Bauhinia Square takes seven times more bandwidth to download in PNG format than in JPEG format.

I agree that the PNG version looks slightly better at small sizes — this is to some extent due to a recent change to the JPEG thumbnail generator which emphasized compression over quality, perhaps excessively so. Nonetheless, JPEG remains the approriate, and recommended, format for photographic images on Wikipedia. If you'd like to see the quality of JPEG thumbnails on Wikipedia increased, it would be more productive to propose doing so at WP:VPT rather than replacing JPEG images with PNG versions. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 23:08, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It wasn't my intention to revert your edits. Not long after you changed the image format, someone vandalized the article. Before the vandalism was reverted, another user changed the image back to the .png version. I initially reverted the article to your edit, changing the image back to the .jpg version in the process. However, I didn't check that far into the article's history, so I changed the image back to the .png version. I will now change it back to the .jpg version. --Ixfd64 23:15, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding your opinion to the RuneScape article, but there is still a major issue in the RuneScape weaponry article, especially since the damage has already been done to that article. I didn't get to complete my statement in-game, so sorry if I'm asking too much further.

Can you please voice your opinion on Talk:RuneScape weaponry, and settle a compromise once and for all? Thanks for any possible help!

Recent warning

[edit]

You've sent me the following message: "Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Thank you."

May I ask which particular edit you are referring to?--85.187.44.131 17:49, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I don't understand how this happened. The edit of 17:44 is a deletion of almost the entire article, something that I didn't intend to do and don't remember doing, and at 17:45 comes the edit that I do remember making, a completely normal version of the page. Another mysterious thing is that your message comes in the same minute, 17:45. How was that possible, do you have some kind of an automatic service that reacts to deletions? --85.187.44.131 19:24, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • That is indeed strange. I don't know what exactly happened, but this happens from time to time. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As for your second question, all recent edits are shown under Special:Recentchanges. A lot of us (including myself) regularly patrol that page. --Ixfd64 19:35, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recently you converted the MySpace domain for {{MySpace}} to an interwiki link. Can you modify this interwiki link so the website name begins with www? jareha (comments) 17:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unfortunately, that's not something I could do. This can only be done by modifying the interwiki map at Meta. However, Brion Vibber recently protected that page due to its sensitivity, so you will have to get an administrator there to change it for you. --Ixfd64 18:02, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I noticed that you appeared in the edit history of the justification (theology) article. I recently made major changes to the article in an effort to move it to NPOV. Help with Kola Boof problem

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed you have recently helped out the reverting the vandalism edits on the Kola Boof article. Thanks! However, the vandal hasn't stopped and I've come to the conclusion that the only way to stop them is through a "Request for comment" page, and if you could sign off on the page as one of the users certifying the basis for the page, it would be awesome of you. The page is located here:

Re: Allymax page.

[edit]

With Regards to the allymax page.

"allymax is the nemesis of the tims. He searches them out and informs the world of their existent websites. You can find out more about allymax by visiting http://www.network54.com/Forum/479501. allymax is the real allymax. When you talk to allymax you know there is no other that will substitute. There can only be one allymax. A tim site carrying the allymax name is 'RangersMedia'; allymax went there for 10 days, and found them out. Canadaready (canna-dae-ready), is a tim; he admitted it to allymax; see aforementioned site. allymax." --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Allymax

I am the person known as "Canadaready" and I own the site known as rangersmedia. This allymax character was banned from my website for constant harassment of my websites members. A google result of my user name showed this page with its extremely disturbing content.

He is insinuating that I am a "Tim" which I am not. By calling me a Tim he is not only being sectarian towards Catholics but also is offending me by being allowed to post this on the internet about my website.

I am deeply offended that this is allowed to be on wikipedia as I am not a Tim and my site is not Catholic. I have never said such things to "Allymax" either and hope that you will remove this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grantler (talkcontribs)

Too bad it had to come to this...

[edit]

I never quite understood what he was trying to accomplish by harassing my website.

We are a fan club for the Glasgow Rangers FC and he waltzed in spreading hate and sectarianism on our site about hating Catholics etc. We IP banned him straight away and then this occured. Strange world sometimes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grantler (talkcontribs)

Yeah, people hate it when people block the bot over one edit :o The false positive rate is pretty hard to stop, I can whitelist people and stop the bot from looking at the page but it really is hard to stop. Thanks for removing the block fast though, it saved me the "where the hell is Tawkerbot2" messages I got last time the bot went down :o -- Tawker 04:46, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The problem isn't the pictures, which are clearly fair use if nothing else, it is the use of them on the user's userpage. Prodego talk 02:08, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's still going, and the fair-use mentioned was the pre-given permission and the good faith is the interest of letting other Wikipedians come by to use them, thus giving them a purpose. Tawkerbot2

[edit]

I was under the impression that Tawker didn't want it generally known what triggers Tawkerbot2, so that vandals will have a harder time evading it. If you know better than I, feel free to ignore me. Mak (talk) 22:49, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, most people who are familiar with the bot probably already know what triggers it. It's likely that many chronic vandals already know the bot well enough to avoid being reverted. The majority of "drive-by" vandals will attack only once or twice and are not likely to even see the bot's user page. But you do have a valid point, so I've removed the information for now. --Ixfd64 22:56, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you also have a good point. I guess I still feel like it's Tawker's/Joshbuddy's call to make though. No problem though, just thought I'd ask. Mak (talk) 23:09, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
