Welcome
Welcome to the arena of WikiProject Troubles were right thinking reasonable proposals and ideas will always be met with a stone-wall rejection from the those that seek to protect republican idealogy. Have fun. Your best bet with anything for more neutral input would have been to raise the issue at WikiProject Crime as I'm assuming the editors involved in it know more about what that WikiProject encompasses and what should classify. Obviously with a notification at WikiProject Ireland and/or Troubles to let interested editors there know about the discussion.
At the end of the day you need to get consensus first and foremost for anything possibly controversial, but even the most rational and reasonable argument will be met with responses you've had so far for obvious reasons. Mabuska (talk) 14:10, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Talk:List of George Floyd protests does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Deletion discussion about El Salini attack
Hello, Jim Michael, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Eddie891, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, El Salini attack, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/El Salini attack.
You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Hello Jim. Because you have greatly contributed to articles about Afghanistan in the past, I suggest that if possible, please create an article about the ongoing (since yesterday) border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Chaman and the deaths of at least 15 civilians and injuries of more than 50 civilians as a result. The skirmishes are being given considerable coverage in Reuters [1], The Economic Times [2], Bloomberg [3], The New York Times [4], The Oklahoman [5], Dawn [6], The News International [7], Business World [8], LatestLY [9], etc. I am unable to start the article himself because unfortunately I cannot fine enough time for it but I do look forward to edit it in the future. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:1980s road incidents in Europe
A tag has been placed on Category:1980s road incidents in Europe requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Level crossing incident categories and articles and WP:HWY
Yes, those various categories contain articles about incidents that involve the crossing between a road and a rail line. However, WP:HWY's scope only covers the roads themselves, not accidents/incidents. For that reason, I originally removed the categories from the project and now I'm removing them again. Additionally, WP:HWY's scope specifically excludes topics related to Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India or the United States because those countries have their own subprojects. Imzadi 1979 → 20:54, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of that at the time I added the banner to the relevant talk pages. I find the exclusion of incidents to be strange, but I won't reinstate it. The project should state the project's scope, including how major/wide/long/busy a road/street has to be to qualify. Jim Michael (talk) 21:07, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Death is death, but not conspiracy
the case you present at the death project is a serious and legitimate complaint - however it fails the duck test at the death project - ANI is where that needs to go - the death project has a low status relevant to resolving issues of any sort, or watchers or involved admins or bureaucrats - what you have observed deserve the far more relevant location. Please, for wikipedia's sake - take it there... JarrahTree 11:11, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- That was about the irish conspiracy - this has been totally misinterpreted. JarrahTree 13:41, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- You're sure that their wrongdoing is serious enough for that? Jim Michael (talk) 15:25, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree with JarrahTree. I do NOT understand why you are "humoring" that other editor by allowing Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Death to be littered with his recalcitrance and repeated announcements that he doesn't f***ing care what the project wants or what Wikipedia policy is. Is your reluctance to go ANI that you've never done one before? Do you actually have diffs of his prior behavior over the years (any diffs, even if not all)? Normal Op (talk) 21:45, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- That's one of the reasons - I've not taken any case to ANI & don't know what the procedure is. I don't have any diffs, but it's easy to find many of the talk pages from which he's removed the Death banner - they're mostly/solely from articles about what were at the time recent fatal incidents, most of which involved transport. The repeated removal of the Death banner has occurred very frequently for years and over 90% of it has been done by one editor. Jim Michael (talk) 08:01, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- If you can direct me to which articles, I can find the diffs. He is too prolific for me to find anything by browsing through his list of contributions. Normal Op (talk) 08:06, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

The article Gareth Forwood has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:NACTOR. Only hits are namedrops.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 23:14, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Read the title of this[10]]. Report on the accident to Boeing 747-121. Also, false accusations of vandalism are considered a violation of WP:NPA....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 12:32, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- As you know, that title is incorrect. Despite its title, that report says it was a bombing rather than an accident. There's a clear consensus in regard to that point. You know it was a bombing, so one false title can't be used to support your claim that it was an accident. A false title in one source can be found in regard to many events - that doesn't mean you should ignore the clear, well-sourced & relevant facts. It's nothing like NPOV to describe it as an accident; it's proven to be false. In addition, you're going against the consensus of how the article should describe the bombing; none of the other editors of the article agree with you on this point. As shown by the article's edit history, you've made this same alteration of attack to accident several times on previous days in addition to several times today & it was other editors who reverted you before. You know that your repeated claim constitutes vandalism, because you're altering the lead of the article of a very well-known mass murder to say that it was an accident.
- This discussion should be on Talk:Pan Am Flight 103. Jim Michael (talk) 12:59, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- You just proved my case that you're violating NPOV. You say the title is incorrect. That is an opinion....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 13:03, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- You haven't proved I'm violating anything. We know that the title of that report is incorrect. It's either a mistake or is part of a standard wording of articles about aircraft incidents that at the time was used by the people who made the reports. Are you honestly claiming it was was an accident, despite the huge amount of proof that it was a bombing? You're saying that accident is a better description than attack?
- Why do you want this conversation to take place here, rather than on the article's talk page, where the article's editors will see it? Jim Michael (talk) 13:16, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

This page move you carried out was very wrong, what you ought to have done instead was to go to WP:RM and start a discussion. Furthermore per WP:COMMONNAME, “Mali wedding airstrike attack” is the appropriate name per reliable sources. In any case that was a very wrong move. Celestina007 (talk) 18:57, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- There are far too few media articles for there to be a common name. Airstrike attack isn't standard, as can be seen from Category:Attacks on weddings. It's also a tautology, because an airstrike is a type of attack. For the same reason, we wouldn't usually use bombing attack or mass shooting attack in our article titles. I created it at Mali wedding attack in order to cover the initial attack as well as the airstrike which occurred minutes later. Jim Michael (talk) 19:09, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- This discussion should be on Talk:Mali wedding airstrike.

Your contributed article, Kodyel massacre
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Kodyel massacre. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 2021 Foutouri attack. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 2021 Foutouri attack. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. SɱαɾƚყPαɳƚʂ22 (Ⓣⓐⓛⓚ) 14:27, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- This massacre is notable enough for an article. When I created this article, I was unaware that, minutes earlier, an article about the same massacre had been created with a different title. I believe that the title of the article I created is more precise, so the other article should be merged to this one. Jim Michael (talk) 14:47, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Camargo massacre moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Camargo massacre, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CommanderWaterford (talk) 11:58, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's a reliably-sourced, well-written article about a massacre for which police officers have been arrested & charged. It's easily notable enough for an article & doesn't fall short of any of WP's requirements. Jim Michael (talk) 12:09, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Question
Hi, you seem to know a bit about cats, sorting and whatnot. The IP crisis article, there are 58,000 displaced persons in Gaza, so would it be right to add the cat for internally displaced persons in this particular article? Selfstudier (talk) 15:29, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- No, because Category:Internally displaced persons doesn't include conflicts.
- There is an article, Internally displaced persons in Syria which is in the category. Syria is a "conflict" so is it because of the existence of the page ie If there were a page "Internally displaced persons in Gaza" would that go in the category? Apologies if all this is obvious to you.Selfstudier (talk) 16:32, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- Present absentee is the closest to what you mention about those in Gaza & is also in the IDP cat. They're articles about IDPs rather than about conflicts, although of course they're related. Jim Michael (talk) 17:08, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think I get it, you ask the question what is the page about (mainly) and that's where it goes? It could still be in multiple cats but only if there is a significant amount of detail about (some thing) in the given article, is that about right?Selfstudier (talk) 17:16, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- Basically, but it's more complicated than that. There are some cats which are subcats of others. Also, we don't put murder cats on articles about killings in which there's a trial of suspects in progress or pending. Jim Michael (talk) 23:53, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the pointers, I should have paid more attention to cats before now, some catchup to do.Selfstudier (talk) 00:00, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Edit summaries et al
Hi Jim. I see you're a prolific editor, and collaborate pretty well with people - both admirable traits. I hope you won't be offended if I offer 2 suggestions of further improving your WP work?
Firstly, I see you do the occasional Edit summary; but the guideline is for ESs on all edits (incl. Talk pages actually). Secondly, there are currently about >130 sections in this talk page. Might it be time for another archive?
Best wishes, Trafford09 (talk) 13:57, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- The large majority of my edits are self-explanatory, obvious & not controversial. I typically only leave a summary when there could be a misunderstanding or where there's a dispute.
- Yes, but I don't know how to archive. Jim Michael (talk) 14:58, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- We would all be grateful if you would always leave an edit summary. It is so helpful. (Thank you for your fine edits. You are very appreciated around here.) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:51, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, Jim.
Well, re archiving, I can do that for you if you like (just as User talk:Jim Michael/Archive 1 was done I guess).
Re ESs, I fully accept that the large majority of your edits are self-explanatory, obvious & non-controversial. The trouble is though that, without a brief ES, other editors don't know the nature of an edit until they've gone to the trouble of reviewing it, which adds time & effort; hence the ES guidelines of ESs on all edits.
For a helpful list of some commonly used ES abbreviations, please see this list.
And one other aspect is that: the smaller the edits (say adding or removing one character), the more it leaves a hallmark similar to vandals (though I know now you're clearly not) - and such people hardly ever leave ESs.
Cheers, Trafford09 (talk) 10:41, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't get a reply, there, although I see you've made several edits.
- I've taken the liberty of creating your 2nd Archive,
- to make the latest topics easier for you and other editors to access. Hope you approve.
- Trafford09 (talk) 17:06, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for archiving my talk page. I couldn't remember how the only other archiving of my talk page - 5 y ago - was done. Jim Michael (talk) 22:14, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
The archiving was my pleasure. I think editors should make life easier for others.
On that note, I do hope you took a look at the ES abbreviations - this list? Trafford09 (talk) 07:15, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
@Jim Michael — I happened to be on your talk page for another reason and noticed a discussion here about archives from a few years ago. Thought I'd let you know about ArchiveThis. I use it, though I am not as prolific an editor as you. It can be setup to automatically archive after so many days. There are loads of param options available to customize it to your liking. Hope you find it useful. Kimdorris (talk) 09:13, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Plymouth shooting
I notice that you moved Plymouth shooting from 2021 Plymouth shooting. I would like to note that while no other shooting in Plymouth has an article on Wikipedia, the year is a simple way of helping identify the event, as explained by the guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (events). In this guideline, all the titles of articles of events that have no year in the title can be very specific about where they happened e.g. the title Tenerife airport disaster is able to make clear where specifically on Tenerife (i.e. the airport) the disaster happened, in such a way that title for the article on the shooting in Plymouth can't be (it would be unfeasible to name Biddick Drive in the title, as few people will have heard of it before). So I think the article would do better with the year in the title, as it makes the event considerably easier to indentify. Hope you're well --TedEdwards 14:51, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- I disagree, because I think it fits the WP:NOYEAR exception. The Devon city is the most notable Plymouth & this mass shooting appears to be the only notable shooting in any Plymouth. I think therefore that settlement & type of event is how this should be titled, like Hungerford massacre & Dunblane massacre. However, I'd be happy to take part in a discussion on Talk:Plymouth shooting should you &/or anyone else wish to start such a discussion. Jim Michael (talk) 15:10, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Assessment of Killamarsh murders
Hi Jim Michael.
I noticed that when you assessed the article Killamarsh murders on its talk page, you switched the article from the Crime WikiProject to the British crime WikiProject. Please be aware that the two projects are not related and any British crime related articles should, ideally, be members of both projects. I have added back the Crime WikiProject because British crime related articles are also crime related articles as the projects are not mutually exclusive but symbiotic. The advantage of an article being a member of the Crime WikiProject is that these articles undergo daily assessment by the WP 1.0 bot and changes appear in the bot's quality log. Assessment rating changes in British crime WikiProject are not monitored in the same way and one needs to watch each article for changes. I also noticed that the article had an importance rating of NA, which is only intended for Non-Articles, such as redirects or categories; it does NOT mean Not Applicable. Assessed articles should have ratings between Low, Mid, High, and Top or the importance rating should be omitted. I have reassessed the article's importance as "Low", because it is an article, rather than a Non-Article. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 09:37, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that all articles relating to crime in the UK should be in the Crime proj as well as the Brit crime proj. That should be made clear on the Brit crime proj page, so that people know.
- I didn't do anything in regard to the importance levels. Jim Michael (talk) 13:36, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

- I think that Freetown fuel tanker explosion is the correct title for this month's disaster. It was previously at 2 wrong titles. It needs the city, Freetown, rather than the country, Sierra Leone, in its title. It doesn't need the year, because the only other notable explosion in Freetown (in 2007) didn't involve a fuel tanker. Jim Michael (talk) 00:08, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Could you explain what this edit was about. It seems to have introduced some errors and overlinking and I can't see an edit summary. Deb (talk) 09:03, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- I made many improvements, which I think are clear, so I didn't think an edit summary was necessary. I don't believe I've made any errors, though if you find any, please tell me &/or correct them. If you think that there are any overlinks, you're welcome to remove them. Prior to my edit, the article was inadequate on several points. It had too few links & too little info. The lead was far too short & gave no indication of why this case is notable. Over 99% of rapes aren't notable. The reason for this one's notability is that the attacker had recently illegally moved a few thousand miles to Germany, where he made a claim for asylum which was quickly rejected because he's from a safe country. Were the events of the attack exactly the same, but the perpetrator had been a German or a long-settled, legal immigrant, it wouldn't have received anything like the media coverage it did. It wouldn't be eligible for an article; it'd have been local news which few people outside NRW would've heard of. The place for this discussion is Talk:Siegaue rape case, so I'm puzzled at you choosing to start it here, where far fewer editors who are interested in the article will see it.
- Your input on Talk:2021 would be helpful. Since you last commented there, several discussions have taken place, some of which have become complicated & uncivil. I was considering messaging you about it, but didn't do so because I thought I'd likely be accused of canvassing. Year articles need far more editors, but it's likely that many who would edit them are being deterred by hostility on some of their talk pages. Jim Michael (talk) 10:13, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Irrelevant Wikiprojects
What does the Battle of al-Hasakah (2022) have to do with cars, explosives, serial killers or Islam as a whole? Please do not tag bomb talkpages in this fashion.--Catlemur (talk) 17:50, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- The article makes it clear that it's of interest to all those projects. Those first two because it began with a car bombing. The other 2 are relevant because the SKTF covers mass murders, which the attack by the Islamist group Islamic State is. Jim Michael (talk) 18:40, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- Do you think its sensible to add the Cars Wikiproject tag to every single article that has something to do with cars? Every single crime involving a getaway vehicle, or a ramming attack (drive-bys, bank robberies, assassinations etc) would fall under this Wikiproject. Should we then tag every stabbing attack with the Blades Wikiproject? Similarly every single battle of every single conflict involving Christian nations or paramilitaries where religion was partially a motivating factor would fall under the Christianity, Catholicism etc Wikiprojects. This was not a massacre, this was battle between two armed parties. By your definition almost all terrorists and soldiers are mass murderers. You can spend the rest of your life tagging articles with those Wikiprojects and you still won't manage to tag them all.--Catlemur (talk) 19:05, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- If cars are prominently used, it's of interest to their project. I asked them about their scope, where I was told that attacks which prominently use cars - such as vehicle-ramming attacks & car bombings - are of interest to the project. I don't think the Blades project (which is no longer active) covered attacks. The Firearms project appears to only include those attacks which resulted in significant law changes, such as the Hungerford massacre & the Port Arthur massacre. In regard to religion, actions are relevant to their projects if they're by a religious group who act in the name of their religion, as Islamic State do. They often target civilians & gladly break many laws as they demand a caliphate & to govern it under an extreme version of Sharia law, so there's no doubt that battles in which IS are a major belligerent are of interest to the project. They're very different from soldiers who are lawful combatants, fighting for their country's armed forces, who aren't committing crimes as long as they follow the law of war. As the article makes clear, this was an attack by IS which turned into a battle. Jim Michael (talk) 20:52, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

The article Pop Life (TV series) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unsourced stub. Doesn't seem to be a notable series given the utter lack of sources.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

An article you recently created, Fotokol bombings, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?)
