Re: Closing statement

[edit]

I hear you, John. I actually wrote something similar, but far more specific on my grievances, last week, but in the end, I didn't post it. (I think your version is better anyway, so I may "borrow" it when I finally do leave, whenever that is.) I've been around long enough to remember your previous username, so that's a long time! And yes, Wikipedia is more a social site now. We even have a fan page devoted to an admin! (This hard-working admin actually does deserves a fan page somewhere, but it's inappropriate on Wikipedia, or at least use to be.) - BilCat (talk) 16:44, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I finally did leave. - BilCat (talk) 00:27, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

[edit]

We surely sparred and quarrelled greatly over the years but I am still appreciative of your assistance on FAC and think your input there and elsewhere will be greatly missed. Best wishes.--MONGO (talk) 22:36, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You'll be intrigued to know that Justin Kruger got a mention on Radio 4's More or Less from the Hay Festival this week. His experiments varied the way in which Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? contestants answered their questions. Even though all contestants had the same levels of success, those who stuck to their first answer, without any doubts or second thoughts, were perceived as performing much better. I hope you have some second thoughts over your retirement, John. But you obviously value this encyclopedia as something more than just a social media site (which is all it's ever been for me, of course). So that deserves some respect from your fellow editors. I'm sure we had our ups and downs—who doesn't—bt that's a damn sad sign you put up there. Still, it was the sanest thing you could do! (*but cf. that Catch 22...) ——SerialNumber54129 15:34, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

October songs

Missing you on your precious anniversary, and often. - Today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - click on songs if you ever look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:26, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article correction

[edit]

First off, my apologies for dropping this here, as the current talk page is protected, hence I can’t add tropic to your current archive. There’s been some call/agreement to rewrite a correction in Harry Holmes’ testimony in the police interrogation section on Oswald article: the current words, “went downstairs where he encountered Baker” give the impression Oswald said the encounter took place at the second floor lunchroom but Holmes clarifies that Oswald was talking about encountering the officer at the vestibule on the first floor by the front entrance. Holmes describes two set of doors which were in the building vestibule (which were a front lobby between two set of doors). The paragraph could be rewritten to reflect Holmes’ testimony something like: “Oswald said he was at the first floor vestibule by the front entrance and wanted to see what the “commotion” was when he encountered an officer.” 62.254.8.217 (talk) 07:27, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
