The article on Andrew Jackson (7th President of the U.S.) says (Par. 2 of Early Life and Education) that his parents probably arrived in Philadelphia and traveled overland through the Appalachian Mountains to the Waxhaws region on the border of North and South Carolina.
While this would be one way to go (and may have been the way they went), it looks like the hard way to do it. I wonder why they wouldn't have come south from Philadelphia along relatively level ground to the Carolinas and then headed west into the mountains.
I am a novice on ground transportation at this early period. But it looks odd so I thought I should ask. 05:26, 28 April 2013 (UTC)~~
