I didn't create the article. Anyways, would you please take it to AfD instead of removing it from mainspace? Peregrine Fisher (talk) 20:59, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Peregrine Fisher, you created the current version of the page with this edit; you don't show as the creator of the page because I've restored the previous history. It's already been to AfD twice; I believe that the WP:BURDEN is now on you to show that he is notable. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:23, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thanks for letting me know about the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. I was unaware of this rule, and have added the mandatory information onto my user page. Please accept my apologies. I hope it is clear I was changing factual information, as opposed to adding "marketing" material. In future I will suggest additions and amends in the talk page for London College of Communication. Jakemay89 (talk) 15:35, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, Jakemay89, that'll be fine. Unfortunately the article has been plagued by inappropriate editing for many years, and I had to spend some time cleaning it up. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:51, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, before deleting Template:WikiProject Akwa Ibom, did you check that it was no longer in use? According to this tool, it has 270 transclusions. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:44, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Redrose64! Well, I thought I had, but obviously not. I've restored it for now, now to see whether I made the same mistake elsewhere. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:55, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- What's the plan for these pages? I believe as a geographic region, Category:Akwa Ibom State stubs is still a valid category. Frietjes (talk) 15:36, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Frietjes, I agree with that, and have restored Template:Akwaibom-stub. I don't see that either it or the category was specifically covered by the consensus at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Akwa Ibom. Thanks for bringing it up, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:48, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Østre Toten
[edit]You left me a question and I'm a newbie and couldn't figure out where to respond, so I'll try here. I added the "formerly Oppland" and reference on Jan 2, 2020 with mixed feelings. I deleted it earlier today with mixed feelings. It is definitely still true, but I just thought it was too much clutter and was too confusing to have and redundant (since the Innlandet link explains it) and so I deleted it. I'm glad you responded and I'll just leave it in. I'm still just 50/50 on whether it adds much to the article. Thanks again for your input.Redriv (talk) 02:54, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, Redriv – and, yes, here is fine. I think either choice is good; my own tendency with places that have had their names changed to something that people may not recognise (Madras, for example) is to mention the former name also. But clutter is a thing too! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:11, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Why, it was linked from the {{talkheader}} template at Talk:Roald Dahl. The deletion is now causing {{talkheader}} to pretend as if there's just one archive. I was about to untag the page before you deleted it. Please restore. SD0001 (talk) 18:04, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- Should be OK now, SD0001 – I've moved the archive back to the title the bot settings expect. No idea why it was redirected in 2016 ... If there's still a problem please let me know. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:17, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
Draft:Nina Kiraly deleted
[edit]Hi, Just saw that you deleted Draft:Nina Kiraly because of copyright infringement of http://www.kiralyfoundation.com The thing is I have created kiralyfoundation.com, I am the daughter of Nina Kiraly and own all rights, trying to create an English page where her international collaborators and students can learn more about her work and legacy. A page in her name in Hungarian already exists but since she also published books by international artists as well as her own articles in English, it would be important to have this page. Her Hungarian page can be found here: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kir%C3%A1ly_Nina Please, let me know how I can resubmit for consideration. Thank s a lot! (Annakiraly1 (talk) 04:31, 21 January 2020 (UTC))
- Annakiraly1, please see this page. After you email OTRS you will (or should!) receive a reply with a long number in the subject field. If you give me that number (here), I'll see what can be done. Can I assume that you've already made some sort of appropriate disclosure of your conflict of interest? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:57, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
re-submit page for Jfaoc
[edit]Hi, my newly created page was deleted because of an "G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of https://thedagenhamyanks.com/bio", I am the owner of this page and the author of it's contents, I want to create a page that explains "The Dagenham Yanks", who they are and where the name derived from, can you or I resubmit or explain any changes I need to make make it acceptable for resubmission please.--Jfaoc (talk) 15:46, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Jfaoc, please see this page. If you choose to email OTRS, you will (or should!) receive a reply with a long number in the subject field. If you give me that number (here), I'll see what can be done. You'll need to make an appropriate disclosure of your conflict of interest; if your connection to the topic is remunerated in any way, disclosure is obligatory. I received your email, and hope this reply is a sufficient answer. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:57, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers, The ticket number is: 2020012110007164, I am not aware of any conflict of interest; with the topic and my connection to this topic is not renumerated in any way. --Jfaoc (talk) 16:55, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Just to point that out, this is not at all "notification done with the intention of influencing the outcome of a discussion in a particular way". This is the last message I write here because I don't want to disturb you but this was a thing it was necessary to point out not to let you have a wrong idea about this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.64.160.76 (talk) 20:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
I have replied to your answer at the help desk.
[edit]Hi, thank you for the review. I'm sorry to contact you late. The text of the draft page has been deleted due to advice. Thank you.
I have replied to your answer at the help desk. review of submission by Castor KakuWakako I will add a little more detail here.
At the time of the first post, there was certainly copyright infringement. Quoted text. I thought it would be good to indicate the referring page, but it seems wrong. Currently, we have removed the quoted text.
However, the wiki has indicated in the Copyvios report that copyright infringement is still ongoing. If you look at the details of the point where copyright infringement is pointed out, almost all are Japanese proper nouns (work title, publisher name, author name).
Here is the list: (the genre of proper nouns)
- Poetry (Category Name)
- Zero ni naru karada (Content Title)
- Tokuma Shoten, Tokyo, 2002 (Publisher Name)
- Umi no youna otona ni naru (Content Title)
- I Will Be a Grown-up Like the Sea (Content Title Translation)
- co-authored with Shuntaro Tanikawa and Akira Sato, (About co-authored)
- Froebel Kan Tokyo, 2008 (Publisher Name)
- Hugtime translation from English originally written by Patrick McDonnel (Credit Notation)
- translation from English originally written by (Credit Notation)
- GT Music, Tokyo (Publisher name)
- Wakako Kaku's official fan site (Music Label)
- official website of Yah Chayka! (I, Seagull) (Content Title & Content Title Meaning)
- a film Wakako Kaku co-directed with poet Shuntaro Tanikawa (Credit Notation)
What should we do about such copyright infringement?
Also, the text of the Draft: Wakako_Kaku page has been deleted, but it can be restored at any time. Castor KakuWakako (talk) @ 07:40:34, 23 January 2020(UTC)
Answer other reply.
1: You said " Was the content in fact translated from here? If so, you must provide attribution."[1]
Yes. Translated from this page. And we add shortage. That's right. Lack of respect for pre-translation articles. Specify attribution. Thank you for your advice.
2: Initially, I repeatedly published articles about copyright infringement. That's because I misunderstood that I was solving the problem myself. And in the next phase, to understand what the problem is. I posted a draft article with the purpose of knowing what is wrong, what to check, who to contact and how to contact it. That was also to confirm the aggregated alert box.
Your advice has greatly advanced my understanding. Thank you for your cooperation. I understand what information to check and what text to save. So I was able to delete the draft page text. However, I still feel that the behavior is incorrect. Encourage understanding. Castor KakuWakako (talk) @ 09:14:48, 23 January 2020(UTC)

You have deleted the never ending story on LittleGhostBoo
[edit]I know it violated the stated rule, but it did say it was to be kept for humorous reference and not to be deleted. That page has been here longer than your account. It was not okay to delete it; that page has been worked on for 12-13 years. RSVP Heroe Of Time (talk) 08:10, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I have to agree with Heroe Of Time here. That was a bad U5 tagging and a bad deletion. U5 requires that the owner "has made few or no edits outside of user pages". Littleghostboo has made more than 600+ edits outside userspace. I suggest you revert your deletion because I really don't think we need to start a DRV here. Regards SoWhy 10:47, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello Justlettersandnumbers. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of ENCI, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: nl-wiki article indicates that subject might be significant, also has sources. Thank you. SoWhy 13:47, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- Er, SoWhy, what nl.wp does is their business. This is the English-language Wikipedia, and the page here has no sources and no indication of significance. Are you sure you've read the criterion correctly? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:00, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- Lack of sources is not a reason for deletion. Also, we are not robots, are we? A7 is meant to remove articles about unquestionably insignificant and unimportant subjects, not articles about notable companies that might currently be lacking in sources but could well be improved. And if another Wikipedia has sources that might well demonstrate notability, I see no reason to speedy delete a 15 year old(!) article without discussion. This is a company that has whole chapters of scientific literature dedicated to it [1], not some kid's garage band or YouTube channel, after all. If you can do an extensive BEFORE search and still believe it's not a notable company, feel free to nominate it for WP:AFD. Regards SoWhy 14:20, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
- (Driving by...) I don't know the standards for paid editing on nl.wiki, but the article looks to me like a puff piece on a company, and I've seen drafts rejected for less. Might be worth an AfD if notability doesn't rise to WP:NCOMPANY. Montanabw(talk) 00:31, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

Updates
[edit]JLAN, I just noticed (thanks to a series of bad anon IP edits) that you have created a number of new horse breed articles that have not been added to the List of horse breeds. Given that you know what you have created from scratch, I'd appreciate it if either you could add them to the List article or at least somehow point me to them, perhaps a list on the talkpage of the list article that I can insert where they belong? Given that this is our only overview of all articles on wikipedia that are bluelinked, it is useful to keep it up to date. I added the breeds off of Template:Horse breeds of Belgium and Luxembourg and may have time to look at a couple others, but if you can help me out, I'd be grateful. Many thanks. Montanabw(talk) 00:26, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- I've added a few from the last year or so. I keep a list of pages I've created here, but I don't update it often (just done it, no chance I'd have remembered them otherwise!). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:58, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
About polymathy in academia
[edit]Hi colleague,
I am the editor of the section "Polymathy in Academia". While I agree that a Master's Thesis may not be considered a reliable source (although it can be according to wikipedia's guidelines), that section has nothing to do with the thesis. I think that removing it is depriving readers from the state of the art research on the field. Although noble in intent, the deletion has the practical effect of downplaying serious academic work while highlighting non-academic sources and opinions.
After checking this: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources
one can easily confirm that the text clearly is not a new synthesis. Nor does it provide a conclusion "not explicitly stated by any of the sources". Just quickly check the sources, which are all published in peer-reviewed sources except for the last one, which is a Doctoral dissertation. The latter was only added due to the dearth of scholarly research and because it does offer a contribution to the field according to several leading scholars.
Wikipedia's guidelines on "new syntheses":
"Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources. Similarly, do not combine different parts of one source to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by the source. If one reliable source says A, and another reliable source says B, do not join A and B together to imply a conclusion C that is not mentioned by either of the sources. This would be improper editorial synthesis of published material to imply a new conclusion, which is original research performed by an editor here.[i] "A and B, therefore C" is acceptable only if a reliable source has published the same argument in relation to the topic of the article. If a single source says "A" in one context, and "B" in another, without connecting them, and does not provide an argument of "therefore C", then "therefore C" cannot be used in any article."

Hi. You appear to have deleted Draft:Zero Waste Week the day after it was restored at WP:REFUND (and subsequent to me making a keep-alive edit). Would you mind checking and if I'm correct, undeleting it? --kingboyk (talk) 01:22, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
- Done that, Kingboyk – and you are right of course, your dummy edit preceded the tagging. Not sure if that was my mistake or a glitch in the script – I'm pretty sure I checked that the tag was green, and so did not examine the history. Draft of article about Steve Mahabir
[edit]Hi. Thanks for looking at the resubmitted draft article I wrote about Steve Mahabir. I have two question about why the submission was declined. First, your comment was that "a substantial part of the page is completely unsourced." Which section(s) are you referring to? Second, the whole "Career" section is empty. Did you do this or did I not resubmit it properly? Hollander1961 (talk) 19:38, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Hollander1961! So, you're talking about Draft:Steve Mahabir? No, it wasn't I who blanked the copyvio section, later removed it, or hid that part of the history from view, those three things were done by three other editors; you can see their names by looking at the revision history. You were told about the copyright problem on 10 December on your talk-page.
- The material I was talking about when I said "unsourced" is everything that does not have a relevant citation (the little number in square brackets that connects to details of an independent reliable source); it seemed (and still seems) to me that that applies to a large part of what is in the page. Please note that stuff like this and this (two copies of the same promotional press-release on different websites) is neither independent nor reliable. If you have more questions I suggest you visit the Teahouse – I'll leave you an invitation in one moment. Good luck! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:18, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
- You've already had a Teahouse invitation, it seems. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:20, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
You can now re-nominate, without fear of reversion, Help:IPA/Saidi Arabic, at RfD as administrator El C has kindly page blocked (for one week) Sefarat90 from page editing that page. You can see the details of the block at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#Help:IPA/Saidi Arabic. If the RfD is ultimately relisted, you may need to return to that page or approach El C and ask for the page block to be extended by a further one week.
Hope that helps and happy editing! :)
Cheers,

multiple issues on the article "Lydia Kakabadse"
[edit]Dear Wikipedia Editor I am the subject of the article "Lydia Kakabadse". I noticed from your comments last month that the article has multiple issues and I would be most grateful if you could perhaps show me how they may be improved/resolved. I look forward to hearing from you, Yours sincerely Lemdee (talk) 19:29, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Lemdee/Lydia! Unfortunately that page has had a number of problems, principally copyright violation, but also editing by at least one person (you!) with a conflict of interest; that seems to have been resolved by subsequent editing, so I've removed that tag. The remaining problems that have been identified, and so tagged, are that it (1) doesn't have enough independent reliable sources, and so (2) it is not clear that the subject is notable by the standards of Wikipedia (which are our own and do not necessarily precisely reflect real-world reception or reputation); there are (3) also no other articles that link to it. If you know of other solid independent sources with in-depth coverage of your life and/or work, you could perhaps mention them on the talk-page of the article; I or someone else would add them to the article if they seemed useful. There's some advice for people in your (not always easy) position here, which may be helpful. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:39, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of John Krubsack page
[edit]Hi I see that the page John Krubsack has be deleted but can't seem to find out why other than a vague issue about copyright. Also can't find any of the pages that should have been talking about the deletion to see what the issue with it was. I don't want to recreate the article again until I find out what was wrong with the last one. Could you please enlighten me as to what was the issue/s and where is the deletion pages/discussions are for both John Krubsack and related talk pages. Thanks Blackash (talk) 19:54, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Blackash! John Krubsack was blanked and listed here on 30 December because of an unusual copyright problem: permission under the GFDL was received in 2009 for text copied into the article from a book by Richard Reames, but that licence was at the time no longer acceptable here, and the permission should not have been accepted; the text was effectively a copyright violation. I deleted the page about a month later as all revisions of the page were affected, and no viable rewrite had been proposed. You are welcome to re-create it; I can restore the skeleton of the article (infobox, images, categories, references, but no running text) if that would be helpful – just let me know. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Thanks for this info. Could you please restore the skeleton of the article to my sandbox page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Blackash/sandbox Blackash (talk) 11:32, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Blackash, I've restored it, but for attribution reasons have put it at User:Blackash/John Krubsack, hope that works too. When it's ready for mainspace you can move it (or ask someone else to), which will preserve the earlier history of the page. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:59, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

- Even worse than the edits on Italian WP, are his extensive and no doubt spurious/erroneous edits to WikiData [3]. The alter egos of 151.20.125.224, i.e. 151.20.21.172 and 151.20.7.153 were blocked for a week on Wikidata in 2018 and for 3 months in 2019 and all edits there reverted. I'm minded to leave a message on their equivalent of ANI about this new incarnation.

Advertising
[edit]Hello! Something on my watchlist led me to your comment here, where you mentioned only a few weeks ago that ocula.com is a paid placement service that will advertise a gallery for $125. What is interesting is that when I went to the site, the $125 had been removed. It was there late last year, per the Internet Archive. So the $125 was removed after your comment, about three weeks ago! Looking around, I see lots of ocula.com sources, and at least one other editor adding ocula.com links. For example, the anselmi editor User:Turtleduck133, and User:Cactusing. What do you think? Seems like a concerted effort to me.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 05:30, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, ThatMontrealIP! Well, that's quite funny – but hard to believe they changed their website because of something I wrote? I'm still sure it isn't the kind of source we should be using, any more than those other paid-content sites masquerading as edited content – artsy, artnet, the fake Saatchi (saatchiart?) and so on. There seem to be more than 200 links to Ocula (plus about 40 to the http: address), so removing them would be quite a task. I suppose the best thing would be to see if consensus can be established to deprecate these damned things. I'll look at the contribs of those two editors; in general, if you see anyone spamming this or any other website, do let me know. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:59, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of Pearl of Peace EV
[edit]Hi @Justlettersandnumbers:, I see that you have deleted the page Pearl of Peace EV. However, I had contested the deletion with an extensive response on why the page should not be deleted. Can you please provide me an update on why it was deleted? The reason, as I can see it right now, that it was previously deleted and so it must be deleted again doesn't seem just. I had no access to the previous article draft, so I created the page from scratch when I found it as a topic of interest in the WikiProject Equine. I found reliable and independent references, enough to create a stub at least, and published the page. Thanks for your time. FelixtheNomad (talk) 17:22, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, FelixtheNomad, I deleted it as "a page that was previously deleted via a deletion discussion, is substantially identical to the deleted version, and any changes do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted". I saw your contestation, but was not convinced by it; in particular, the Times source you "found" was already in the article when it was previously discussed and deleted. You can if you wish list it for review at WP:Deletion review. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:05, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your response. Can you please, in the meantime, share the draft with me, so I can work on it, dig deeper, and if I find more sources for it, publish it through AfC? Thanks! FelixtheNomad (talk) 15:11, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
Hello @Justlettersandnumbers:, You’ve deleted an article named ‘Pearl of Peace EV‘. It was originally created by a paid editor and deleted. Then it was re-created by a non-paid editor, FelixtheNomad. He provided me with reliable and independent sources which has made me believe that the article meets Wikipedia’s notability standards. He also claims to have solved the issues which partially were the reason of it’s deletion. Could you restore the article? If not, could you explain the reason and share the deleted draft with FelixtheNomad so he can work on it in the meantime. Thanks, Rodrigo Valequez (talk) 19:05, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Justlettersandnumbers, I just added the modifications you recommended about the translation. Since I have a conflict of interest about the topic, I'm not supposed to move the page from draft to article, is that correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaheris fils de lot (talk • contribs) 14:54, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, as you saw I am fairly new to Wikipedia. I am not getting paid and only wanted to try myself at creating an article from scratch and of course focused on something that I know about. Honestly I don't think I'll do it again. It's been too burdensome. I do want to thank you and the other experienced users for all your help, I've been trying to act on your feedback and advice through out the process. I think I'll focus on historical subjects for now, I hope there will be less issues. I've got a really good book about the different Norman conquests I'm reading right now that should provide some good encyclopedic material. Please feel free to delete the whole thing if you think it's not worthy material, I'll let other users take over if they think it's worthy materialGaheris fils de lot (talk) 22:43, 3 March 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaheris fils de lot (talk • contribs) 22:40, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
About Cirque du Soleil and Copyright
[edit]I don't understand why you are so obsessed with trying to remove my contributions to the Cirque du Soleil show pages I've edited in the past due to "copyright issues and unsourced material". I recommend you stop blaming me for "bringing up unsourced material" on those pages. Also, I need to mention that there are no copyright issues on the Corteo page, and that you need to bring back the revisions that you deleted from the Toruk – The First Flight page. Besides, you and Dorsetonian's actions towards the Cirque du Soleil community are unacceptable.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthew250 (talk • contribs) 00:07, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Matthew250! I explained my reasons for those edits in the messages I left on your talk-page, which I see you've deleted. If you think I'm mistaken you can start a discussion on the relevant talk-pages, or if you are sure that my edits are "unacceptable", lodge a complaint here. But you might discover that other editors find that what is really unacceptable is the long-term campaign of promotional editing of those articles by the "Cirque du Soleil community". About the recently deleted articles created by me
[edit]Hello, Justlettersandnumbers. Recently I was under investigation and got banned for Sock puppetry, but I had unblock request which was accepted by the admin per conditions I agreed. You could look to my talk for more information. While I was banned, some of my articles were pinned and later deleted under the G5 rule, but the articles were fine and I would like to ask you for a second review now, since I was banned then and I couldn't dispute the note. You have deleted Hristo Ivanov (footballer, born 2000), but the article is meeting WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL as the player have played in a fully professional league and have all the needed sources claiming it, so the article should be returned. Hope Productions is another article you have deleted, but I believe it meets the criteria for notability and I would like to be returned for discussion, because I believe it would be found for notable and be kept. The article Aashna Chopra was the 3rd you deleted after it was proposed for deletion. The article was already under discussion and was decided to stay in Wikipedia as found notable. I believe my G5 violation should not change this fact and I would ask to be returned or to be discussed again. I’m eager to receive your feedback and if you need any addition information, feel free to ask me, i'll gladly reply. Best Regards, Chris Calvin (talk) 00:18, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Chris Calvin! I've taken some time to review this, and I'm not prepared to to restore those pages, mostly for two reasons: your prohibition from creating articles in mainspace might extend to this request (I'm not comfortable with doing for you something that you may not do yourself); and the promotional tone and strong appearance of paid editing in two of them – a continuing concern about your edits which I see that others share. I've no objection to any other admin restoring them, of course. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:59, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your respond, Justlettersandnumbers. As I said, these articles are created by the rules and got the check by other admins or clearly cover the rules, so should I just go for recreating it and put them on check at WP:AFC submissions or wait for admin to recheck? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to elude the rules, by asking you to just restore them, i'm totally fine to be reviewed again, but they were reviewed for promotional tone and were find fine, but they got deleted because of my Sock puppetry case. Draft:Dewesoft
[edit]Hello! I am writting to you regarding the Dewesoft Draft you have deleted from my sandbox (31.january 2020; I haven't recived a notification about the deletion, so I am writing to you now) I am an university student and I have mandatory internship at the selected company (Dewesoft). At univerity we got the task to write a Wikipedia article about the company and brand we work whith. The article I have submitted to your site has been reviewed and approved by the professors of the university and I wish this article to be published on Wikipedia as well. I would like to resubmit the article again if you would be so kind to help me with your guidelines. I need to know which parts are problematic in the deleted draft and how can I improve in writting this submission. If it's possible I would also like the access to the deleted draft. With kind regards, Flavijus — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flavijus (talk • contribs) 09:26, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Flavijus! I've moved your message to the bottom of this page, as is our custom here. Your draft was (correctly) nominated for deletion for violation of our copyright policy – swathes of content were copied directly from here; you should have received notification of that (from the reviewer, not me), I'm not sure why you didn't. It was also unacceptably promotional in tone (stuff like "committed to the highest standards of quality for development and manufacturing processes" has no place in an encyclopaedia). I can't restore a copyright violation, but I can if you wish restore the bare bones of the page – infobox, references, categories etc, but without the running text. Let me know if that would help. Oh, and please make a suitable disclosure of your conflict of interest on your user page, User:Flavijus. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:03, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Than you for your reply and andvice! I will try to remake the whole text without using the promotional tone - I think that for that you don't have to restore the bare bones of the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flavijus (talk • contribs) 07:15, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
Draft: Hadrian Wine
[edit]Good day @Justlettersandnumbers:! I hope you don't mind but could you please check my draft for the Hadrian Wine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hadrian_Wine) and advice for any possible changes. Thank you. Piero.hatria (talk) 17:38, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Piero.hatria! No, I don't mind (but you could just wait for your drafts to be reviewed like everyone else does). I don't like to be be the bearer of bad news, but I see no possibility that your drafts for the wine, the chicken, the art show or the ancient city will ever become Wikipedia articles. The sources you have found simply do not show that these topics are notable by our standards, and – please excuse me if I speak plainly – your command of English is just not good enough to write text that can be understood without considerable effort. It also seems that you are interested only in promoting the importance of the town of Atri. Why do you not try creating these pages on Italian Wikipedia instead, where at least there would not be a language barrier? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:42, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Justlettersandnumbers:,
- Thank you for your feedback and rest assured that I take it constructively. I will seek professional help to correct and improve my grammar and my writing style, and hopefully, my contributions will be accepted after some time. (Yes, I will also contribute to Italian, but my contributions will help more readers if I contribute in English)
- About my choice of topic, yes, it's true that I am interested to contribute and write about Atri, its history and events because this is where I came from; and I know there is not enough information about Atri. I want to help to add information about this town, which might not be popular but still part of history and has interesting artifacts of ancient Roman history.
- I can only write of the things that I am interested in and writing about some of Atri's history, which is not yet fully available in Wikipedia can be a good contribution.Piero.hatria (talk) 15:17, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
Newbie with Pagemover?
[edit]Does this move over redirect imply that a new Wiki Ed student has pagemover rights? If so, they shouldn’t. If not, that auto-generated comment is misleading, and whatever script created it should be altered. Adding Shalor. Mathglot (talk) 14:51, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Mathglot, how are you? No, the student was able to make the move as an autoconfirmed account (4 days/10 edits), and because the history of the redirect consisted of one revision only – page mover rights were not needed (and yes indeed, a new Wiki Ed student should not have those rights). I can never understand what benefit there is in allowing very new users to move pages – in my opinion it'd be far better to bundle the page move ability with extended-confirmed status. Lion-Eating Poet Deletion
[edit]Hi, can you please partially undo this deletion ([4]) you did earlier? It was very carelessly done. It deleted not only the English translation (which appears to have been initially copied from that book), but also the Chinese characters and the transliterations thereof, which are most certainly not copyrighted. It destroyed extensive work on my part. White Whirlwind 咨 20:32, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, White_whirlwind! No, it was not carelessness – as far as I'm aware it has not been established that the Chinese text is out of copyright, and it has been repeatedly removed from the article for copyright reasons. If you have irrefutable proof of your claim, please start a discussion on the talk-page of the article. Please don't re-add any part of the poem until such discussion has reached a conclusion. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:40, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

About photo license
[edit]Hi
I have a question about image licenses. I created a page for a volleyball player and used a photo of him from Internet. That image was deleted because of violating copyright. I decide to buy a photo of that player. How can I use that photo on wiki? Please consider that I am the owner of that photo now because I bought it. MrInfo2012 Talk 22:05, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again, MrInfo2012! I'm really not an expert on image copyrights, but here's what I think: my guess is that you've bought a copy of the photograph, probably restricted to your own (non-commercial) use; unless you paid quite a large sum, it's unlikely that you bought the exclusive copyright to the image, which in most cases is retained by the photographer. If you have a contract that clearly and irrevocably assigns all rights in the image to you, you can upload it to Commons and go here to create a release of permission. If you just have a copy of the image, you won't be able to use it here unless the player happens to be dead – we assume that for a living person, anyone could go and take a picture, so there's no justification for uploading a fair use image. I'm sorry if this isn't the answer you had hoped for; if you have questions, please ask! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:44, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer. So please tell me about copyright of these players: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so many other photos. They don't use any copyright rules. Please tell me about them. Sorry. MrInfo2012 Talk 23:06, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- MrInfo2012, all of those images are hosted on Commons, so that would really be the place to ask about them. I took a quick look: 1 and 3 are by the same photographer and apparently uploaded by her (her name is visible in the EXIF data of the photos), 6 is definitely uploaded by the photographer, 5 also appears to be (see here); 2 and 4 have OTRS permission. I don't see any cause for concern there. As before, in general the copyright in an image belongs to the photographer, who alone can choose whether or not to licence it for general use and upload it to Commons. Under very restricted conditions, some non-free images (of book covers, for example, but never of living people) can be uploaded to Wikipedia. Does that help? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:31, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer. So please tell me about copyright of these players: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so many other photos. They don't use any copyright rules. Please tell me about them. Sorry. MrInfo2012 Talk 23:06, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
copyright inquiry
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers, I am new to editing Wikipedia, and I have a few questions regarding what I believe to be your edits to the page "Sarah Morris." If you were responsible for changing my edits to the "Exhibition", "Public Collection" and "Further Reading" section could you please explain why? The previous lists were not comprehensive, and I updated them to reflect ALL of the artist's solo exhibitions and public collections. Additionally, I created a separate section for the artist's site-specific installations, and added ones that were not previously mentioned, and this was also deleted. I also added texts to the "Further Reading" section which were deleted. I do not understand why any of these alterations were a violation of Wikipedia's copyright rules. Lastly, my edit of the "Personal Life" section provided more detail regarding the artist's education, listing the artist's major and changing "stint at Cambridge University" to instead indicate the specific years the subject spent there. Any clarification in regards to these changes would be greatly appreciated. Fetterw (talk) 15:53, 26 March 2020 (UTC)fetterw

- Hi Justlettersandnumbers! I appreciate your diligence. This website is actually run by me. :-D To prove that to you, I added a line to the imprint. The website is more of a fanpage of University Heidelberg, where I studied. I did put the disclaimer "Die ist keine Webseite der Universität Heidelberg" in several places to be sure. I hope you can help me with the name change now! Kükenschublade (talk) 07:14, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, Kükenschublade, I missed this, only just seen it. I'm afraid that we don't allow usernames that are websites. Could you perhaps choose a different name? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:41, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Justlettersandnumbers! I think I agree with the spirit of the rule of not allowing commercial websites. In this case, the web site is only representing me as a person, and it is not commercial. As further proof that this is just the nick name I go by, see my Twitter account.

[edit]Sorry, I too should have checked the page history on Focura or Foscura or whatever it was. Learning as I go.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 21:50, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Aren't we all? I thought I'd done my homework, checked that the page creator had what appeared to be an undisclosed connection to the topic, page was fully eligible ... but no, I forgot to check the history. It'll disappear soon enough in one way or another, I suppose. I completely forgot to answer you about Stephanie Comilang – I looked at the history, and saw no need for histmerge as all previous edits were by the same person (at least I think that's what I saw!); as for notability, I wasn't convinced, but time will be the test of that. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:04, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- thanks! In line with my learning about what a good G11 is, would you say Draft:JNIOR qualifies? I am wondering if it is OK to G11 something that is in the AFC queue? I fond no SIGCOV in a search.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 17:27, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again, ThatMontrealIP! As far as I'm aware, there's nothing to stop anyone from nominating a draft for deletion while it's waiting for review. In this case I'd probably not myself delete the page if I saw it nominated as G11, despite the very evident WP:COI/WP:PAID aspect. That aside, the page appears to be fairly competently written by someone familiar with the topic, so I'd be inclined to give it some leeway and see if any sources do materialise. It's being discussed here too; I've asked the editor to disclose. I don't know if any of that makes things clearer or muddier ... Anyway, thanks for all your good work, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the very kind advice. I think the COI question for that user is relevant!ThatMontrealIP (talk) 18:34, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

OK, so we now have the subject of the article (ID verified by OTRS) providing personal details (birthdate, parents, marriage, etc) but without sources. Do we add the details with a note giving the provenance of the info or do we still need an RS that can be verified? Meters (talk) 23:31, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry if that is an obvious answer, but I don't think I've ever been involved in a case where the subject was adding the personal info. Meters (talk) 23:34, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Meters, this is a new experience for me too, but I'm confident that we should stick firmly to our WP:BLP policy here as everywhere else, and only include in the article information that is supported by solid independent reliable sources. At least she posted on the talk-page ... Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:20, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Many thanks for pointing out that http://srl.org/about.html had the wrong license. I think it now has the right license, could the Copyright vio template be removed from that page? Elmer T Lee
[edit]Curious as to why this page was deleted not published 96lt1ss (talk) 10:46, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Well, 96lt1ss, where to start? Draft:Elmer T Lee was not written in encyclopaedic tone, was completely unsourced, was unacceptably promotional, and was a blatant copyright violation from here. It was also, incidentally, an abandoned draft and eligible for deletion for that reason too. I'll leave you an invitation to the Teahouse. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:09, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
N-dashes
[edit]Hi, I noticed you corrected my edits about convert ranges e.g. {{convert|65|–|73|cm|in|abbr=on}} in Maremma Sheepdog. Although this is correct, using |-| (the normal minus-hyphen) returns n-dashes as well. Cheers.--Carnby (talk) 13:32, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Carnby, and thanks! Yes, actually I did know that, but changing those has become a sort of ingrained habit now. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Draft: Updated content for Vinum Hadrianum
[edit]Good day, @Justlettersandnumbers:! I have finally changed the majority of my Vinum Hadrianum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hadrian_Wine) page and used the Vinum Hadrianum in Italian Wikipedia as my reference. Please see and advise. I also would like to request if you could change the title from Hadrian wine to Vinum Hadrianum. The page is meant for Vinum Hadrianum of Atri. Thank you. Speedy deletion of gary justice
[edit]Hello Justiceandnumbers. I have requested you reinstate my page which I do not agree violates any guidelines. The contributions of this music producer are noteworthy and the facts are true. Links to Gary Justice websites are there, but that does not mean the wiki page is s hosting” them does it? There is no solicitation of services.
I would like to see the page and have a chance to rebut.
If some changes are requested, that could be considered. Why so harsh to speedy delete it?
I have not heard response from my prior request for dialog on this. Gary Justice (talk) 03:45, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Gary Justice: You've done the right thing to contact the admin who deleted it. I cannot read the article anymore while it's deleted as I'm not an administrator, but usually this results when a page looks like a promotional article that would be unlikely to pass at WP:AFC. If the admin restores it, I suggest to go through the AFC process and to submit it for review. By the timeline, it's likely one of many articles I tagged following this now-archived FTN thread (and the work is far from done). Thanks, —PaleoNeonate – 04:27, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Gary Justice! Your user-page was nominated for deletion as a page "... in userspace consisting of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, where the owner has made few or no edits outside of user pages, with the exception of plausible drafts and pages adhering to Wikipedia:User pages#What may I have in my user pages?" (WP:U5). That nomination was entirely correct in my view – this is an encyclopaedia and not a social media site; material such as "new endeavours that may explode into a level of lucid expression exceeding all past efforts now that compassion and understanding of life's suffering is a felt feature of his vernacular and perspective" has no place anywhere in the project. If you disagree, you can ask for review here; or, if you wish, I can email the deleted content to you, with the understanding that no part of it will re-appear in Wikipedia. Please let me know. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:58, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

edits to page "Sarah Morris"
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers, I would like to engage in a dialogue with you regarding your repeated deletion of all of my edits to this page. I find it frustrating to have all of the edits deleted en masse, when I have taken particular care to use reputable sources and cite everything properly. If you're identifying the writing as pretentious, I would appreciate your deleting specific sentences rather than removing all of the edits I've made to the page, some of which have nothing to do with the style of writing; changes such as enhancing the further reading section, providing a comprehensive list of the artist's exhibition and collection history. These edits make the wikipedia more accurate and I see no reason why they should be deleted. Rather than reverting the page to your previous version, I would appreciate a more thorough consideration of the changes I've made. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fetterw (talk • contribs) 17:30, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Fetterw! That page has a long and tedious history of inappropriate edits by COI editors of one kind or another, and your edits have every appearance of being a continuation of that pattern – you have made no edit relating to any other topic. Your first step is to disclose the nature of your connection to the subject of the article, specifically whether or not you are being paid to edit there. Once you've done that, please feel free to start a discussion on the talk-page of the article, as I've already suggested in this edit summary. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. To be clear, I have no connection to the artist. I am a graduate student in Art History and Sarah Morris was the focus of a recent term paper. This was my first foray into Wikipedia editing, and I felt that her page needed to be updated and expanded. I will bring this discussion to the Talk Page, but I do find your total repudiation of the updates I provided to be unproductive; particularly, the removal of the additions I provided to various lists on the artist's page. These updates only make the page more accurate, and I don't understand why there is any cause for removing them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fetterw (talk • contribs) 19:28, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
I posted on the talk page of Sarah Morris as you suggested and have received no response. As it stands, the page is incomplete and does not offer an accurate reflection of the artist. Particularly, the lists of exhibitions and private collections are INCOMPLETE- my edits updated these to be comprehensive and up to date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fetterw (talk • contribs) 14:15, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
Good afternoon- Looking for some info- can you please tell me why you moved the education information for the above-referenced article? Thank you for any help! Jcollinsycc (talk) 18:57, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Hi, Jcollinsycc! Please see my edit summary for that edit. If you have more questions, please post them on the talk-page of the article. Please be sure to disclose your paid-editor status whenever you discuss, or make any edit relating to, any article you've been been paid to edit; please also update your user-page to make clear exactly which articles you've edited on behalf of the Yale Cancer Centre. My edit to Italian Mediterranean buffalo
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers, I noticed you reverted my edit to Italian Mediterranean buffalo where I made "Campania" link to its article. It must be aggravating to have someone disregard your clear instructions not to link it. I'm sorry. On the other hand, The Wikipedia Manual of Style says, "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, a link may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, hatnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead." I want to put the link back in the table because it would be helpful to readers. Thanks, Doug4 20:29, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- It's already linked a little higher up the page, Doug4. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:34, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- It would still be helpful to have it in the table so that readers would not have to look for a previous link. Some readers might have jumped to the "Population" section without having read the previous section of the article. Doug4 20:49, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

- Well, Moneytrees, great work by both of you! But really, you didn't need to go to such trouble – the original text could have been presumptively removed (that's why we have CCI, after all), and a one-sentence stub left ready for others to expand – should have been about a minute's work. However, checking the source allowed you to do the revdel too, and is perhaps worthwhile for that reason. In my view we're under no obligation, WP:AGF or other, to these people – they abused our trust, their stuff should be unceremoniously removed unless it is completely clear that it couldn't have been copied. Anyway, I'll leave you to it, please keep up the good work! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:17, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Draft:OtakuKart
[edit]Hello,
I'd like to continue working on Draft:OtakuKart by adding more citations and proper details, how do I restore it? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sohelmoldhariya (talk • contribs) 13:12, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Sohelmoldhariya! Your first step is to change the COI disclosure on your user-page to make clear that you have a financial connection to the topic. I'll leave you a note about how to do so. Once that's done I'll restore the draft, on the strict understanding that it goes through AfC review, and that you do not again try to move it to mainspace or indeed make any mainspace edit relating to the business. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:26, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Justlettersandnumbers I replied on the original talk page, the following: Thank you Justlettersandnumbers, I'm not being paid for the creating this, I'm the owner of the said property, and would like to create and unbiased wikipedia page for my entity. I have read the wikipedia policy for the same, please guide me if possible. Thanks!
Malta Jazz Festival
[edit]Actually, most of the acts mentioned in the table at the bottom were referenced earlier on in the main article. Besides, a reference is surely not needed for every single act who has appeared at a festival. See the example of the Montreux Jass Festival below, where no references are provided. I started the page on the Malta Jazz Festival about 11 years ago and have dedicated myself to editing it in close coordination with the festival's Artistic Director. I would very much welcome help and appreciate guidance with codes of practice I am unaware of but I do feel that on this occasion, you have deleted the work done on the page unnecessarily. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_performers_at_the_Montreux_Jazz_Festival Kont Dracula (talk) 20:01, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hi, Kont Dracula! It seems that you may have a conflict of interest at that page. If that is so, you should probably confine your edits to requests on the talk-page, adding {{request edit}} to attract the attention of independent editors who will review your proposed changes. If you receive any kind of financial benefit or reward for your edits to the article, you must disclose it (that's a requirement that was not in force ten years ago).
- On sourcing: there are indeed huge amounts of unsourced material in the project, but that's really not a reason to add more; and yes, I fully agree, Montreux Jazz Festival is a particularly bad example – but at least it has a tag to draw attention to the problem. In general, anything you add here must be verifiable by reference to a published independent reliable source; there's no requirement for the source to be available online, or for it to be in English, but it must be possible to access it somewhere, such as in a library. For a major event such as the Malta Jazz Festival, I'd expect there to be plenty of coverage in the press – doesn't the Times of Malta cover the event in detail, for example? Adding more references to the article can only improve it. Please post on the talk-page, Talk:Malta Jazz Festival, if you have other questions. Oh, and you linked a mention of the Yellowjackets to our page on the American wasps. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:49, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I will post on Talk:Malta Jazz Festival with regards the festival but you do bring into question my integrity so, just to clarify, I have no financial relationship whatsoever with regards the festival and have never received anything at all for editing the page. Almost all of which is indeed referenced. I am just a fan who knows the Artistic Director of the festival, which I am sure does not bar me from editing the page. There are many links to the Times of Malta website and elsewhere for the most recent events but for some of the earlier festivals, online material is hard to come by. I will try to source people who have the original festival programmes to provide a reference for every single act. In the meantime, I would really appreciate your patience in not deleting large sections of the page. You seem like a reasonable guy (unlike some editors I have encountered) so I hope that we can find a compromise on this. In the meantime, I will rectify the yellowjackets situation immediately. Debresser/wallyfromdilbert
[edit]I guess we were working on the same report there (when I went to block Debresser, I saw you'd just blocked him). However, I was wondering about the respective length of blocks – I went for 72 hours and you went for a week. Do you think this is balanced given the fact that wallyfromdilbert was up to five reverts and Debresser only four? I wondered whether you'd gone for a week as Debresser has a long block record? Cheers, Number 57 22:01, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Number 57! Well, I was on wfd's page and just about to block for 48 hours when I saw that you'd already acted – for which thank you! Debresser has a lot of history at WP:ANEW, where he's been reported three times this year. I asked him here if he was prepared to do something about his combative behaviour, and the answer was essentially a "no"; that report ended with a caution, which seems to have had exactly zero effect. I believe a slightly longer vacation from editing is appropriate in the circumstances, but this is not an area where I've previously been active, so if you feel there should be equal treatment, please feel free to modify at will. The one thing I'm sure of is what I've already said: this has got to stop. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:18, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- No, that's fair enough. If he's had several blocks and warnings recently, a longer block is probably more appropriate. Cheers! Number 57 22:27, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Deletion of Aegis Services LLC
[edit]Justlettersandnumbers Hello,
I see that you have deleted my article Aegis Services LLC when I have already submitted reasons not delete the page. I spent lots of hours trying to create and you just dleted in a minute because you thought it was what? It was NOT promotional at all as it did not include any promotional content. Can you please revert your decision or advice me what needs to be removed from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lillie8 (talk • contribs) 10:34, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Well, Lillie8, you did indeed give some reasons for not deleting the page, but they weren't very convincing and you didn't give them until twenty minutes after the page had been deleted. Let me ask you this: all your edits to date have been about Sri Lanka; what made you suddenly post a promotional page about a company in Qatar? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:09, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
(talk) Justlettersandnumbers After I published the page I logged out for lunch and when I cam back the article was flagged which is when I submitted my request for non deletion! Do you need to keep your eyes on the wikipedia pages you create all the time? Where in the wikipedia does it say that you need to be from the same locale to create a page in WP? FYI I did a favor for my friend since I have an account in WP and I have NEVER used my account for promotional content. Please consider undoing the deletion since I just don't have the time to work on another article and don't want to lose my friend. Thanks. 17 May 2020

I don't care one way or the other about the title, but you probably need to use your magic admin foo to merge the talkpage history if you want the other title. - (talk page stalker) Fixed, good catch. Weirdly never encountered this situation before, but in moving the page, if you select "move the associated talk page" as you normally would, the article gets moved but the talk page move is never performed. Obviously, it's blocked by an existing page, but there's no error message, no notification that the talk page move attempt was unsuccessful, no indication whatsoever that the move didn't go according to plan. Strange software quirk. ~Swarm~ {sting} 19:43, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Well, that's a weird one! Anyway, well caught, thank you! Swarm has already fixed it, it seems (ty, Swarm!). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:45, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- No problem! Yes, it's a weird one! I guess you have to catch the error yourself and then move the talk page separately, deleting the impeding page and then subsequently restore any deleted revisions to merge the histories. Seems like an obvious thing that shouldn't happen without being flagged as an error or failure in some way, but like I said I've never even seen this so I guess it's just usually never been enough of an issue to get brought to the devs attention. I suspect that even putting in a ticket to have this changed would get ignored as being too low of a priority. ~Swarm~ {sting} 19:49, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Obtain contents of deleted page
[edit]I'd like to obtain the contents of Indiana University Amateur Radio Club, which was I notified was up for deletion today (and then was subsequently deleted). I understand that I may request retrieval of this material from you, as the deleting administrator, for future reference or improvement. Thank you in advance. —Firespeaker (talk) 20:42, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, no problem with that, Firespeaker – though in my opinion the chances that this might meet our updated notability requirements for organisations are near to zero. I can either email the page to you (if your email is activated), or restore the page in draft space. Which would you prefer? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:47, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Cinema for Peace
[edit]Hi, Thank you for your comment on my input in the Cinema for Peace page. I'm a newbie and hope to get help here. The page has been having inaccurate information from what it seems to be trolls against the entity. The current version that you reverted to has mentioned to Gaddafi as it's guest, which is untrue as per the citation itself. Gaddafi came as a plus one to a guest and was not recognized at the Gala. It is clear from the wording that the edits were made to damage the reputation by someone holding grudges, and not factual info. Could you please help in reverting the article to the version before 03.10.2019? Thanks for any help on this. --Oslo95 (talk) 10:38, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Oslo95! Please remember to disclose your conflict of interest whenever you make any edit relating to your organisation. If there are errors or omissions of fact in the article, you may propose corrections by posting on the talk-page there. You'll need to show that any change you propose is supported by independent reliable sources, of course (and disclose your COI as above). Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:31, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Justlettersandnumbers! Thanks, but I am not paid by Cinema for Peace for this and I only support them on a voluntary basis. Do I need to disclose COI, and if so, how?
Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

[edit]Hello,
My name is Nicola Green. I’ve noticed that you’ve been working incredibly hard to monitor the wikipedia page about me - thank you.
I also saw that you advised me to change my username - I do not represent an organisation or group, I am an individual (artist) - thank you for drawing this to my attention.
Please know, I am new to the world of wikipedia so any mistakes are completely unintentional - but I intend to follow wikipedia’s guidelines so hope not to make any. I will not directly edit the page about me. You’ll see I have declared the COI on my user page.
I have been advised to make suggestions on the talk page in order to improve the overall quality of this article and help if I can to ensure there are no factual errors. Your continued help on this page is really appreciated.
Thank you, NicolaGreen72 (talk) 09:20, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, NicolaGreen72! What you suggest sounds exactly right, thank you! I've left a brief welcome note on your talk-page, with some links to pages you might find helpful. I'm happy to try to answer any question you may have – which you can ask either here or on your own talk-page (I should see if you do so). Not sure what to think about this
[edit]Hey, JLAN - https://tools.wmflabs.org/copyvios/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Phil_King_(Texas_politician)&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1 - 39.3% unlikely copyvio - but all was deleted and listed as copyvio. Atsme Talk 📧 15:29, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Atsme! That content was removed as part of the contributor copyright investigation of Billy Hathorn, one of the most prolific violators of our copyright policy in the history of the project. I seem to recall that without counting his many sockpuppets, there were at one point about 9800 articles needing to be checked, or somewhere around an eighth of the whole massive CCI backlog. A (very) few noble and dedicated people are working away at reducing that backlog; I did some myself, but found it pretty mind-numbing and have taken a longish break from it. The difference between CCI cleanup and everyday copyvio cleanup is that we don't need to spend time establishing whether or not there actually was a copyright violation in each specific case, and if so where from; we've established that the editor habitually and regularly copied stuff, and all his contributions can be presumptively removed or deleted. My suggestion would be that you undo your reversion there, and then add any content you wish, but strictly in your words, not his. Oh, and I haven't forgotten your recent ping! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:45, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- I can understand the concern, but please look at the history of that BLP - between Fluffernutter in 2015, and me in 2017 any sign of Hathorn copyvios were taken care of a long time ago. What just happened is not good, JLAN. The editor removed over 7500 bytes of info that I reverted back. Earwig showed a 0% likelihood after reverting, and then Moneytrees removed 764 bytes of material. Is Earwig causing these discrepancies? I was concerned over Moneytrees not being quite seasoned enough to be working heavily in copyvio, and I hope this is just a fluke. When big blocks of material are being removed from articles, I have cause for concern. I don't know if you'll get the same cache I got for this action which shows 0%. Let me know, because I'm inclined to do further investigation as to what is being removed as copyvio vs potential Earwig issues as a result of what just happened at Phil King (Texas poliltician) which was nowhere near being a copyvio to have that much of the text removed. They are removing material that should not be removed, like a person's accomplishments and government stats. Atsme Talk 📧 17:47, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Atsme, with all respect, I don't think that's quite correct. You are of course right about simple statistics, but if you compare Hathorn's last version (under his own name, anyway) with the current page, there's substantial overlap in running text despite the subsequent edits. I believe that all overlapping running text should be removed, and that Moneytrees has erred on the side of caution here. In any case, if there's any disagreement over what or how much should be kept, the best course is to blank the page and list it at WP:CP. Hope this helps, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:15, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

- Thanks, JLAN, but WP:CP is out of my scope - I wouldn't know where to begin blanking pages or lists. I've already explained the issue to Moneytrees, and have restored the factual information. I checked Earwig using the last version edited in 2007 by Hathorn - Phil King (Texas politician) @145372677 - and Earwig shows 61% likelihood of copyvio to a Facebook page that wasn't created until 2011 and it is Phil King's FB page. They're all titles and names which are not copyvios, such as the Texas House of Representatives, represents District 61, chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee, promote competition in the electricity and telecommunications markets, Electric Utility Restructuring Legislative Oversight Committee, a joint committee of the Texas House and Senate, "Freshman Legislator of the Year", "Rookie Legislator of the Year". Most of the 2007 fluff that caused the false copyvio flag has long since been removed. This is the version when I finished editing that page. Earwig shows Violation Unlikely 36.7% confidence. The only concern goes to a blog dated 2012, so it was a mirror. I check for copyvios when I'm editing, and reviewing at NPP and AfC. There were no copyvios and I am still concerned that what happened with that one article may be happening to many others, and it needs to be looked into to be on the safe side - just not by me. I asked Moneytrees to revert his removal of content and he's obviously quite busy doing other things to be bothered with it, so I fixed the issues myself. Surely he knows that government information published by the government is PD, and that Earwig often produces false copyvio flags because of titles, names, etc. Anyway, my focus now is on getting a RS chart for WikiProject Dogs, so take care and don't work too hard. [edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers! West African dwarf goats
[edit]You reverted our edits. There is only 1 breed of dwarfs in West Africa and that's the Djallonké. But it's has multiple nicknames an aliases. - KAMK1, I don't think it's nearly as simple as you say. Please see, for example, page 416 of this book: Valerie Porter, Lawrence Alderson, Stephen J.G. Hall, D. Phillip Sponenberg (2016). Mason's World Encyclopedia of Livestock Breeds and Breeding (sixth edition). Wallingford: CABI. ISBN 9781780647944; or pages 106–113 of this one; or indeed page 52 of this one, which you yourself added to the page. In any case, the title you'd moved the page to was definitely not compatible with how we do things here; and the place to discuss this is the talk-page of the article, Talk:West African Dwarf goats. Do you think that a quiet word from you might perhaps get him to calm down a little? I'll try too, but don't have much hope of success. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:14, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Richard M. Perloff
[edit]Hello, justlettersandnumbers. Newbie here who had made minor updates to indicate new published material to the above-referenced article. These were subsequently edited out, along with entire unedited sections of the article, which were also removed. Thank you for the helpful comments and I am trying to adhere to Wikipedia guidelines and policies. The page has now reverted to a much earlier version that is no longer accurate, eliminating adds and links that were compiled over the past 10 years. Can the page be reverted back to the content it had on June 14, which had more accurate content? Kuninrosmash (talk) 14:04, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Please use the talk-page of the article (Talk:Richard M. Perloff) to discuss any such changes, Kuninrosmash. Before you do so, you might like to read our policies on verifiability and neutrality. User:Kayla kas is one of the presenters of Sounds Fake But Okay an article which she created, she is also, (according to her linked in account) the Digital Marketing Manager at InGenius Prep and has created the draft Draft:InGenius Prep which you declined. I have been rather taken aback by the ferocious, attacking tone of user Neutralhomer, on User talk:Kayla kas's page after I questioned kayla about paid editing. Wikipedia says "If you have a good faith basis to suspect a user of paid editing, add to the user's talk page the template" which is what I did. I believe it was good faith to ask her if she was being paid? Theroadislong (talk) 14:26, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Well, Theroadislong, I was also surprised by a somewhat combative response from the same editor at Sounds Fake But Okay. I see that this is already being discussed at User talk:Materialscientist, and there's probably little to be gained by continuing a separate thread here; but to answer your question: if you reasonably suspect or believe that someone is an undisclosed paid editor, it is perfectly acceptable to ask them if they are, and to invite them to make appropriate disclosure. And the template is a community-approved way of doing so. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:52, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- No response from Materialscientist, I have removed Sounds Fake But Okay from my watchlist, the editor was getting rather abusive. Theroadislong (talk) 18:15, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Placement of Template:CatAutoTOC on category pages
[edit]In your recent rollback edit summary you've asked where's the consensus for these edits?
. Would you consider mention of the template {{CatAutoTOC}} in the guideline Wikipedia:Categorization a sign of consensus? —andrybak (talk) 11:41, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- Andrybak, Debresser, the user was adding large numbers of these after being repeatedly asked to stop (and is now blocked as a result) – see User talk:50.26.172.216. Any good-faith editor can of course make whatever subsequent changes he/she thinks appropriate. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:23, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know why that user was blocked, but I do know that I don't understand why you removed it from the two category pages where I noticed you removing it. The fact that an editor was blocked does not mean that all his edits should be reverted. Debresser (talk) 20:34, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Template for Progress Singapore Party
[edit]Hello, I note that you had previously deleted the template Template:SG/PSP/logo. The reason for deletion was cited as a use of a non free file for use in templates. I have created a variation of the logo here and wish to restore the template, following the format set for all other political parties of Singapore: Template:SG/PAP Template:SG/WP Template:SG/SPPPpp Template:SG/SDP Template:SG/SDA Template:SG/NSP Template:SG/RP in view of the upcoming election.
Seeking your concurrence as required by the page. Thank you. Seloloving (talk) 18:51, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Seloloving: Your variant logo does not address my reason for !voting delete there: that the wikitext of the template is so simple that there's no reason to use a template for it. Besides, you should not be unilaterally overturning discussions, even if you disagree with their reasoning, and even if the admin(s) who enforced them don't reply to you. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:59, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Pppery, I waited nearly three days for a reply during which the admin here replied to someone else below me, while the 2020 Singaporean general election page was in full swing with the other 7-8 main political parties utilizing the template format. I never claimed to disagree with any reasoning for the original deletion, but instead tried to mitigate the use of an official logo by creating a variant. But seeing that unfortunately that's how every single Singapore GE page is formatted, someone will need to change the code on every page, or standardise to allow the one Progress Singapore Party to follow the other 10 political parties in Singapore, as I linked above. If the PSP template is deemed too simple and unnecessary, then the other 10 should be recommended for deletion also, breaking a lot of pages and necessitating a lot of work. I myself have been trying to find a way to merge the 11 templates into one, but am thus far unsuccessful. While I apologize for recreating the template, this was the only solution unless someone is willing to assist in cleaning up all the past GE pages. Seloloving (talk) 01:33, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm ... I thought I'd nominated that image for deletion on Commons as a derivative work, but apparently not, must have failed to save the page or something; anyway, I've now done so. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:47, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Edits by Donaldduck13/Cowandchicken14
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers – today you deleted the categories created by this blocked editor, thank you for doing so. However, all the redirected articles that they restored remain. Is there any way of rolling these back quickly, or will I or another editor have to go through them one by one to revert them? Thanks. Richard3120 (talk) 19:10, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Richard3120! There is a mass rollback tool, yes, but it works only when there's no subsequent edit to the page. Special:Contributions/Cowandchicken14 shows no page that is a latest version, so the tool will achieve nothing, I'm afraid (it may already have been used). It looks as if several of them have already been reverted to their former state, at least one of them by you. I've just reverted at Armenian Colombians, there may still be some others. - I know, my fault... I started on a couple of the articles, then realised it would take me all day to do the lot, so that's when I started asking around for a quicker solution. There are still plenty of others which I haven't touched – I know some editors then tagged them afterwards for lack of sources or similar, so that's screwed up the rollback process. Thanks anyway. Repeated creation of Rahul Ravi
[edit]Hi, Justlettersandnumbers the article Rahul Ravi is again recreated without convincing improvements. Please have a look. Thank you ~ Amkgp 💬 16:21, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- Amkgp, G4 has been declined there – correctly, in my opinion, as the new version is a little different from the old. Two things you could do: remove any unsourced material; and start a new AfD. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:37, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Db-g12 tag deletion from draft
[edit]Hey, just coming on here to say sorry for removing the {{db-g12}} tag on the Anthony Thomas draft. I just looked at the comparisons between the Facebook page and the draft and thought that was it. I didn't think of the person's page. 2601:4A:C300:412:4589:D1CA:666F:EFD3 (talk) 05:14, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- No problem, IPv6 – to be honest, I hadn't even noticed that you'd done so at Draft:Chef Anthony Thomas. But in general it's probably best not to remove G12 tags unless they've clearly been placed in bad faith – the admin who looks at it may see problems that the original tagger had not seen. Nice of you to leave a note here! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:37, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Please restore
[edit]Hello, isn't the new version of this page created by me yesterday wasn't an entirely different version of this page deleted two years ago per a discussion?. Is it possible to restore it now?. Thanks... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Annajacob8 (talk • contribs) 17:48, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- Not really, Annajacob8 – the wording of your version of CarSwitch was slightly different, but the substance was more or less the same (though there was even less of it); the reasons for deletion were not addressed in the new version. You don't need it to be restored as you already have a copy here. Once you've made an appropriate WP:COI or WP:PAID disclosure and added enough independent reliable sources to clearly establish notability, you can submit that for review by adding {{subst:submit}} (complete with the curly parentheses) to it. Advice for article you highlighted
[edit]Hi there, you just highlighted for speedy deletion an article I've been working on draft:Sano Genetics and I would really appreciate your help in improving it. I believe the subject is notable, it has been featured in various reliable sources, and I have worked to try to make sure the tone is as non-promotional as possible. While clearly you have read it to be promotional, I would really appreciate any help to make sure that is not the case - I want to make this article because of its notability not because I want to frame the discussion but there is no way of submitting a topic to be written up by a neutral party.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me on this.

- That seems to be fine as far as it goes; I'm not sure there's going to be a lot more to say about it, though. I might add a couple more sources, but those that are there are enough for two short sentences of text. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:51, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Mentoring on Wikipedia
[edit]Hi, I really appreciated your support getting the Regus page to a draft.
As a newbie to Wikipedia, I'm probably doing lots of things wrong, but I have tried to follow the rules to produce an article and it wasn't a success.
Although I am working for a company, I am passionate about getting fair and impartial information out into the public domain, and would love to give this endeavour another attempt. Would you be happy to / or recommend an independent editor to look a bit deeper at the article? --KatherineBusby2019 (talk) 03:34, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- KatherineBusby2019, I'm not going to do that. Your only purpose in this project is evidently to promote your employer, and I've no interest in helping you to do so. Wikipedia does not tolerate promotion of any kind, and that includes your kind. Any content you write here risks being considered to be Wikipedia:deceptive advertising (and thus illegal in the United States) unless accompanied by a clear statement that it is content supplied by the company (which of course we can't do).
- If you really want to add to the encyclopaedia, choose a topic area (sedimentology, mediaeval archery, the string quartets of Ferdinand Ries, whatever you fancy) and write or improve articles relating to it, basing your text on independent reliable sources. Otherwise, my (unsolicited) advice is to stop. Sorry, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:34, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers FYI, I have clearly disclosed my affiliation to the company, which is following Wikipedia's rules.--KatherineBusby2019 (talk) 12:09, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]There’s a copyvio complaint via OTRS (after an anon IP blanked the article and was warned twice) for Jane Hogarth. The OTRS worker has reviewed the source claimed to be the copied version, but doesn’t see a problem. (It’s paywalled, but he can email it if needed). I haven’t reviewed the source, but the article contains multiple sources and was created by an experienced editor with a lot of new articles under their belt. Earwig was clean, but possibly because it cannot pass the paywall. Anyhow, you’re good at the copyvio stuff, and so I’m pinging you to see if you —as a neutral party— want to look into this. I’m also shooting you an email. Montanabw(talk) 15:47, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Almeida Theatre
[edit]I have never been paid by the Almeida Theatre for the edits I made on the Wikipedia page.
I was paid for writing Wikipedia pages twice, and registered those on my page as requested.
I have not been paid for any other of my Wikipedia edits, some of which I made under a previous Username.
I worked for the Almeida from 1985 to 1989, and thought that my firsthand knowledge of those busy years (well before the Internet came into common use) would be a service the field. I began editing and adding to relevant sections of the page in 2011 under a different username and have continued until earlier this year, putting in countless hours. To repeat - I was not paid a penny for this work, nor for my edits on other pages about which I had firsthand knowledge and volunteered what I knew and the time it took to verify that independently.
I echo the sentiments of the User above in saying I feel increasingly punished by interventions such as yours. Before this summer my experience of Wikipedia was as a place of shared knowledge and understanding. I don't know what it is now - it's certainly a lot more unpleasant. - Kbaker121 (talk) 20:25, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
Tagging of Draft:Tawny Chatmon
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Draft:Tawny Chatmon. I do not think that Draft:Tawny Chatmon fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because copying was not at the G12 level, and has been further reduced by editing. Promotion, for an unsubmitted draft is not at the G11 Level. Also moving to draft and then tagging for speedy deletion seems a bit bitey to me. If you wish, you may try using the simple proposed deletion (PROD) process, or the full articles for deletion (AfD) process, instead. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 22:55, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Well, yes, DESiegel, in an ideal world I would have remembered the identical previous version deleted for the same reasons before I draftified it, but I didn't. Anyway, if you want to remove a copyvio tag from any page, would you please make sure that you remove the copyvio first? Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:48, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- It is now at a 38% ("violation unlikely") rating fro9m Earwig's tool and that from isolated phrases and names of events, which latter are factual statements not protected by copyright. I don't think this was at a G12 level even before I edited it, but I did, before removing the copyvio tag, edit to remove the larger sections of matching text. Do yto9u think this is still a G12-level issue? I can certainly make errors, and perhaps I did here, but I don't currently think I did. I can understand not noticing the matches until after the draftification. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 14:44, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- No, DESiegel, I wouldn't tag it, or indeed delete it, as G12 in its present state; had it been nominated by someone else, I would have unhesitatingly deleted it for the combination of promotion and copyvio before your changes – it consists of the publicity materials of an art gallery copied here with minimal changes by an employee of that gallery. I'll remove what I can of the remaining copyvio and close following in a moment (e.g., this). As for mistakes, we all make them – I certainly made one here (I stupidly looked at the editor's deleted contributions, where it didn't show up because it was created while he/she was logged out, rather than checking the deleted history of the page). I don't agree with your course of action here, but the point of tagging a page rather than immediately deleting it is to get a second opinion, and of course I respect that opinion even if it differs from my own. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:26, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Fair enough, there is room for differences of opinion. I thank you for your response. Perhaps I should have done additio9nal editing before removing the tag. I will remember that. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 16:48, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Draft with 1 unquoted sentence is deleted under usage of copyrighted work (Draft:John Dawson-Damer)
[edit]Hey, @Justlettersandnumbers! I had a talk with KSFT at the Kiwi IRC regarding this issue and he/she tried to contact an admin. He/she had told me that "it looks like one sentence was copied and not marked as a quote, but it doesn't look like a copyright violation to either of us (KSFT and Admin)". I just wanna access my article so that I can fix it. Thanks in advance Robot Kerl (talk • contribs) 04:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- No, Robot Kerl, the copying was more extensive than that. Much of it was from here, including the sentence "John Dawson-Damer owned one of the world’s best private collection of Lotus racing cars" (note the missing "s" of "collections", as in the source). The sentence "After the crash it was discovered Mr Dawson-Damer's helmet had also not been MSA approved but this was not a contributing factor in the accident or the outcome" is verbatim from here.
- If you like, I can email you the content of the page, but it can't be added back to Wikipedia without substantial changes – everything you write here must (with a very few exceptions) be entirely in your own words. Or, if you prefer, I can restore the page without the running text. Let me know? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:38, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Seems fair enough, Justlettersandnumbers. It would be nice of you if you can put the original draft in my Sandbox. Really sorry to bother you! Robot Kerl (talk • contribs) 04:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Robot Kerl, I can't do that – we don't restore copyright violations. I've partially restored the page at Draft:John Dawson-Damer. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ahmass Fakahany is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Experience of Template:R and Template:Use list-defined references ?
[edit]Hi @Justlettersandnumbers:! I'm kind of new to editing Wikipedia. I've started working a bit on Consensus decision-making and wanted to start with improving the references. I found inline citations to be very messy, and I'm not sure how much I like the Visual Editor. After doing a bit of research I came across WP:LDRHOW and Template:R, which seem quite nice. I found that you switched to both styles at the same time, during this edit of Pasiega. I wonder how your experience is with these? Specifically if it has created tensions with other editors, which is the main concern I heard when I asked about it in the Teahouse. Cheers! DougInAMug (Talk) 18:44, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Douginamug! It works for me – you can instantly copy references from one article to another, they don't clutter up the text while you're trying to edit it, {{r}} handles page numbers well. I don't recall any significant disagreement over it except perhaps here. However, I think it's important to be aware that changing the referencing system without discussion is actively discouraged, and could indeed create tensions. I try always to leave a note on the article talk-page before implementing such a change, as I did at Ousmane Sow but apparently did not at Pasiega; that's particularly important in a page with heavy traffic. However, since list-defined refs are fully compatible with standard inline citations, I see no problem with adding refs in that format to a page with "ordinary" references, and have never run into opposition when doing so. Ask away if you have questions, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
G12 decline?
[edit]Hi. I'm wondering why you declined my tagging of Draft:Aquatorium (alkaline hydrolysis) for speedy deletion as a copyvio. You're correct that the copyvio has been removed, of course, but... what's left? —Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 03:41, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Indeed, Mdaniels5757, there's nothing much there. I removed your G12 tag because it was no longer applicable, and the page wasn't eligible for deletion under any other criterion that I could think of. It's in draft space, so I don't believe it's doing much harm; either the author will return to it, or to it will gracefully fade away in about six months' time. - Hi, PamelaAshley! In a nutshell, no. I could suggest that you jump through a series of hoops (donating copyright material and conflict-of-interest or paid-editor disclosure for starters), but the honest truth is that we essentially never publish a "professional bio". This is an encyclopaedia, not LinkedIn, and the tone of the latter is not appropriate here. If Abbate is notable (i.e., covered in depth in plenty of independent reliable sources or has a named professorship at a major university), you could try starting a draft; however, she appears to be a graduate student, so is very unlikely to meet these criteria. You'd have to make the disclosure I mentioned, and write in a dispassionate or even sterile encyclopaedic tone without copying from any external source. Good luck! - Hi, Phillipbarcio! I don't recall saying anything about paid editing. The edit summary I left you here was "no WP:PROMOTION here, thank you (and yes, that includes gallery spam)". Many (or all?) of your edits seem to be intended to promote something called the Kavi Gupta Gallery. Do you have some connection to that? If so, you must disclose it. In any case, you are strongly discouraged from editing pages about your friends – please read this. You are welcome to propose improvements on the talk-pages of those articles. I am new here trying to recreate an article you deleted some days ago, Creating Draft:Eleanna Finokalioti (Fin). The part you say that violates copyright rules is written by Eleanna Fin herself. So I have full permission to do so as I am her website and social media manager. - Hi, Blueangelm12! Please see the "Untitled" section two above this one – essentially the reply is the same: if you are the "website and social media manager" for Eleanna Finokalioti you are strongly discouraged from editing any page about her. We essentially never publish a "professional bio" for anybody – this is an encyclopaedia, not LinkedIn, and the tone of the latter is not appropriate here. You must make an appropriate paid-editor disclosure – I'll leave you a note on how to do so. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:18, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Info Luis Cadena - Ecuadorian painter source
[edit]Hi Thanks for your effort on bringing the page I started up to Wikipedia standards. I’d love to see more very intriguing and relevant information added. I had added some but it was removed. There’s a bio book in Spanish available, which I’ve love to get a hold of, unfortunately I’ve checked on all the library catalogues near me (Gov, and from universities) but they don’t have it. Is there a chance you could have access to it? It should contain more proof of facts such as:
- His signature *clear on the second picture of this link https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/luis-cadena-equadorian-1830-1889-oil-on-canvas-po-87-c-7b3fe7d5c7 - The George Washington portrait gift to USA to Ecuador - Highlights on his paintings; president Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Los mártires del 2 Agosto de 1810 . Teahouse ping list
[edit]Hello Justlettersandnumbers! I am currently compiling a list/directory of experienced editors to be used by Teahouse regulars to solicit help with some of the questions that are likely to get archived unanswered. I am drafting it at User:Usedtobecool/Tea. I have always associated your username with kindness and knowledge about copyright and images on Wikipedia. So, I have put your name in the list in the interim for "Image copyright". I am here to ask whether you'd be interested in being listed. And, if you would be, is "image copyright" the correct category? If you are interested in being listed, you are welcome to add yourself to any of the listed categories you would be able to help with (there is one I have named "general copyright" because I am not sure if all editors working with copyvios are equally able to deal with image and text copyvios; there is also "OTRS" which is very underpopulated). P.S. That I am here, there is currently a query at WP:TEA#Wikipedia Tagging guides for a newbie. which is feeling rather neglected. It seems to be about image or file uploading, to Wikipedia or to Commons, so please take a look if you find the time. PPS Would you be able to suggest a few other users I could reach out to, users who are both active here and at Commons, or who are active here but know a lot about Commons and/or Image uploading/licensing? Thanks, and best regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 21:12, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- That seems to be a very good idea, Usedtobecool, nice work! May I suggest that you list me under general copyright and OTRS? I do sometimes try to deal with image copyrights, but would not want to be listed as a sort of 'expert' in that area – I'm not one, I have considerably less experience than with text copyrights. Now that User:Ronhjones is no longer with us, the user I most often notice dealing with image problems is Fastily, it might be worth asking there. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:08, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Alonso Martínez de Espinar
[edit]On 5 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alonso Martínez de Espinar, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Juan Mateos and Alonso Martínez de Espinar, both writers on hunting in Spanish Baroque literature, are depicted in Prince Baltasar Carlos in the Riding School (pictured) by Diego Velázquez, whose half-length portrait of Mateos was similarly identified from an engraving by Pedro Perete, son of Pieter Perret? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alonso Martínez de Espinar. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alonso Martínez de Espinar), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

My draft was deleted
[edit]@Justlettersandnumbers: Hi, you deleted my draft Imphal Valley draft citing it contained copyrighted information. But I mostly used my own words to write it. Some basic information like names of rivers & the way it was written were copied, but I modified those as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tizen03 (talk • contribs) 10:59, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- No, Tizen03, the text was copy-pasted from here, here and here. You'd changed a few words, but that did not solve the underlying problem. Everything you write in Wikipedia must be entirely in your own words. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:41, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
@Justlettersandnumbers: I recreated the Imphal Valley draft from scratch & removed & modified most of the information, can you please review it again ? Tizen03 (talk) 12:57, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi! I am hoping to help improve the Angus cattle page, as I see it has been listed as a level-5 vital article in Biology, Animals, but needs some work to "meet the good article criteria." I am somewhat new to Wikipedia, so hope that I did not overstep by making some edits that you reverted to their original version, earlier. There are some statements on the page such as "Because of their native environment, the cattle are very hardy and can survive the Scottish winters, which are typically harsh, with snowfall and storms" (Under characteristics) which are misleading. It is not "because of the environment" that the Angus are hardy, but because of adaptation through natural selection to that environment that they have acquired traits which qualify them as 'hardy.' Other problematic sections include "Calves are usually born smaller than is acceptable for the market, so crossbreeding with dairy cattle is needed for veal production." While this may be true in commercial veal operations, this does not accurately represent the fact that Angus calves are most often a) not used for veal production, and b) are sought after because of their small size to alleviate dystocia issues in young heifers and even mature cows.
This is all to ask if it is possible to work together to help improve this page, and if you might help show me the ropes, such that I don't impede on anyone's work, but hopefully can work towards making a more informative and user-friendly page.
Many thanks!
Mmontanamcintosh (talk) 02:31, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Mmontanamcintosh! Yes, the article has plenty of room for improvement, and help with that is always welcome: yes, I'm prepared to do what I can to assist. Please note that the Angus is a Scottish breed, so our article uses UK English (colour, favour, etc). If you want to discuss specific changes to the page, please do so at Talk:Angus cattle. The stuff about veal calves does not seem accurately to reflect what the source actually says. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:36, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

CC BY-SA 3.0 vs 4.0
[edit]Thanks for the info! Any idea if we're expecting this situation (can't bring CC BY-SA 4.0 text into Wikipedia because it's incompatible with our CC BY-SA 3.0 license) to be temporary or permanent? I saw the brief VP discussion about moving to the updated license, but it's not clear to me who has the authority to make that call. It would be unfortunate if we're forever prevented from incorporating text released under CC BY-SA 4.0 (and future license versions), though honestly I very rarely come across text that was properly imported into Wikipedia. Thanks! Ajpolino (talk) 20:33, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Ajpolino! I'd like to be able to point you to some (older) discussion of why we're stuck at 3.0 and likely to stay there, but I just can't think at the moment where that discussion might be. As I understand it, the possibility of an "upgrade" has been reviewed and rejected by Legal; I believe (but please don't quote me!) that the sticking point has to do with backwards compatibility. The person who could answer this promptly and properly is Moonriddengirl, but sadly she doesn't often look in here these days. Talk-page watchers, can you help? Whatever the reasons, the reality is that we can't accept text licenced as CC BY-SA 4.0; the hardest thing to remember (for me, at least) is that CC BY 4.0 is compatible/acceptable. I wish you every success in your RfA, it seems to got off to a good start. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:26, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Bosco Sodi Wikipedia page
[edit]Justlettersandnumbers, I am unclear about your feedback about your most recent revert on the page for Bosco Sodi: "Revert to less promotional version – WP:neutrality is one of the five pillars of this project "
Why was this reverted to a previous version of this page, and what about my edits were what Wikipedia standards considered "promotional"? I have made multiple attempts at fleshing out this page because Sodi is a notable active, living artist, but having all of my edits reverted with vague and subjective feedback is frustrating. I do not have a relationship with Sodi or his management. Thank you for your time. Honkinonbobo (talk) 16:55, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Justlettersandnumbers - thank you for your edits on Ibo van de Poel's page. I am working on another new page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Steven_Umbrello which is under review rn. There are near 100 citations of this individual in-depth (https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=KUEZAfcAAAAJ&hl=en), however, digging through each of the books and academic articles that discusses him and his work is a large endeavor. I would be willing to work with you to do this if it is necessary, and/or of interest. But it is a lot of work to do alone. Thoughts? EthicsScholar93 (talk) 10:41, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Block upgrade
[edit]You blocked:
- Ganeshjadhav20.adt (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
for copyvio. I added a note about multi-account abuse. Pretty much any account ending in ".adt" is block-on-sight as part of a pattern of WP:DE going back over a year now. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Marather.adt if you want some details, but I don't bother tagging or updating the SPI since they are always hit'n'run. DMacks (talk) 21:33, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for filling me in on that, DMacks – the .adt thing did ring a faint alarm bell, I'll admit. A prolific sock master who also routinely violates copyrights is certainly going to need watching. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:41, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Copyvio scripts?
[edit]Thanks for handling the issue with Ibn Karram, which I initially tagged as G12. I was just wondering: are you aware of any scripts or other tools to help out with filing at WP:CP? I'm not familiar with that noticeboard (I just started NPP a few days ago, so am getting my bearings) but I'd definitely like to tag things correctly in future, so I wondered if you had any helpful hints. Thanks for any help you can provide! AleatoryPonderings (talk) 14:12, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, AleatoryPonderings! Thank you for getting the ball rolling on cleaning up that page. As far as I'm aware there's no script that handles copyvio blanking and subsequent listing at WP:CP, and I remember it feeling quite daunting when I first tried to do it. It actually isn't at all difficult: the code for blanking the page is
{{subst:copyvio|url= source(s) }}
; once you've saved that, the template generates some stuff for you to add to the copyright problems listing for that day (and gives you a link to the right page), and some other stuff to go on the talk-page of the user. What we do have at least one script for is requesting WP:revision deletion (which is standard practice after you've removed any copyvio content); one is this one. I've never actually used it because ... well, I don't need to. Thank you for taking copyvio matters seriously, it actually matters! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:20, 3 October 2020 (UTC)- Thanks so much for your help—I appreciate it :) I'll definitely add those to my toolbox. Draft:NNEdPro copyright issues
[edit]Draft:NNEdPro and Draft:Sumantra Ray were submitted on 27 June 2020. Diannaa removed parts of both as there was copyrighted content that had not been released by their owners under a copyright agreement. Due to these content deletions the two submissions were declined on 29 June 2020. Declarations of Consent were made, [Ticket#2020070710004923] Wikipedia: Declaration of consent - Sumantra Ray and [Ticket#2020070710004932] Wikipedia: Declaration of consent - NNEdPro Global Centre. I then wrote to Diannaa and she replied "Hello PuedaHacer. I see by Draft talk:Sumantra Ray that the OTRS ticket was added at the end of June. The tag says the backlog is currently 57 days so someone should be getting to it soon. I am not an OTRS volunteer and don't have access to their email queue.— Diannaa (talk) 11:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)". Due to no response from ‘Items pending OTRS confirmation of permission’, I decided to revise the original content so that there were no copyright issues and I resubmitted the two articles on 2 September 2020. So I am caught between a rock and a hard place. The OTRS process has been going on for over three months and even though I did my best to reword NNEdPro so that the content did not violate copyright you have remove the content I put in. Please advise me. PuedaHacer (talk) 02:17, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, PuedaHacer, you are indeed between a rock and a hard place. You have accepted payment to carry out a task for which you have neither the skills nor the experience, and are failing. Am I prepared to help you out of the hole you've dug yourself into? In a word, no. But know this: Wikipedia essentially never actually incorporates content from external websites into its articles even if OTRS permission is received; that is because a website is almost invariably written to promote something or somebody, while Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and does not tolerate promotion of any kind. For reasons that I have never understood, paid editing is not actually forbidden here; but be assured that it is abhorrent to most good-faith editors. Reversion of edits on Capel Manor House article
[edit]Hello there! I see you reverted all the edits I made on the above-mentioned article. Thanks. PepperAddict (talk) 11:10, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers Hello again, I'm still waiting to hear from you regarding this issue, I hope to hear from you soon.PepperAddict (talk) 19:31, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- PepperAddict, that article has for several years been plagued by inappropriate editing, including sockpuppetry/meatpuppetry and copyright violation – see for example the section Capel Manor House a little higher up this page. Please explain where you obtained this content, which clearly you did not write yourself, though I see that you did later make some changes to it. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for replying Justlettersandnumbers, I understand your concerns and how the activities on this article does not follow the Wikipedia policies. I'd like to make amends by sourcing for other citations than the Historic England and removing any plagiarized content on it. Do I have your blessings? PepperAddict (talk) 09:16, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- No, PepperAddict, I don't do blessings. I asked you a question; perhaps you'd be good enough to answer it? Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:20, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Justlettersandnumbers, I apologize for the delayed response, I've not checked my mails since yesterday due the unrest going on in my country at the moment. To answer your question about how I got the content, yes, I have been asked to edit this page. I understand it was heavily edited by users who were trying to add promotional and copyrighted content from Historic England, therefore I reworded the entire article to address the copyright concerns and included only information that are factual and supported by third party sources. I don't understand why you reverted all of the edits saying copyvio while I did not copy the content from any sources. I did refer Historic England but written the content in my own words. I understand the stress this article must have put you through and I'm open to any suggestion you have on improving the page.PepperAddict (talk) 20:50, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers Good evening from this side. Just want to remind you that I'm still waiting to hear back from you PepperAddict (talk) 19:25, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- PepperAddict, you don't need to hassle me to reply to your messages, particularly when you take your own sweet time in replying to a question from me. Yes, of course you were asked to edit the page, that much was completely obvious. Next question: were you given or offered any financial reward for so doing? If so, you must make appropriate disclosure on your user-page.
- I'm in no doubt that the person who "asked" you to edit the page is or acts for the blocked editor Gyles82. You should be aware that editing on behalf of a blocked or banned editor is regarded as sockpuppetry (or technically meatpuppetry) and leads invariably to indefinite suspension of editing privileges. I'm not immediately blocking your account for two reasons: you gave an honest answer to my first question (thank you!); and you show signs of wanting to make useful contributions to other areas of this project (for which I also thank you). I very strongly advise you to abandon any idea of editing Capel Manor House. Can you guarantee that you will do so? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:19, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers Thanks for getting back to me, I didn't ignore your question on purpose, like I said, I've not been checking my messages often due to the unrest in my country, I hope you understand. Concerning the article, I have no connections with those blocked users , neither did they contact me to make edits on their behalf. I gave a read through WP:PAID and I have disclosed my paid editing and who contacted me, hopefully that'll suffice PepperAddict (talk) 07:32, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- PepperAddict, you need to move the name of the person who has offered to pay you from the "client" to the "employer" parameter of the template for it to display correctly. I hope you obtained her permission before disclosing her name? I again very strongly advise you to abandon any idea of editing Capel Manor House. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:58, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers I have read WP:PAID and I have the client's permission to use the name. I will not edit the page, all the changes will be put on the talk page. Will you help me update the page or ask any other editor to update it? PepperAddict (talk) 08:37, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers As you suggested, I've disclosed my paid editing and intentions to stop working on the article. Will you be willing to help with the page update or assign it to another editor? PepperAddict (talk) 10:43, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Copyvio help
[edit]Hi. Could you take a look at something for me? I'm coming up with a lot of copyvio reports like this, which show potential violations from [sites.google.com/site/jael51il/Automobiles-Motorcycles/islam-cars this site]. My sixth sense screams "mirror", but I can't find anything definitive one way or another. Love to hear your opinion. Thanks.Onel5969 TT me 12:38, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Onel5969, You're right, that's a mirror; the article is an unattributed copy of Islam in Sweden#Islamic Association in Sweden. Looking through the creator's recent edits, looking at what the page had originally redirected to, and ctrl-f ing "Wikipedia" in the earwig report which generates 11 results helped me figure this out. Looking further, the author wrote the original text, so attribution isn't necessary. When it comes to results from earwig, be skeptical of results from user generated blogs (there is quite literally a blogspot for every wikipedia article), look through the page history, and ctrl f "Wiki" or "wikipedia" in the earwig results. Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 15:12, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Moneytrees, thank you. Most blogs are easy to spot mirrors, but this one I just couldn't figure out. Thanks for the detailed explanation of the procedure you wrote above. Will try that the next time I come across something like this (which will probably be tomorrow ). Onel5969 TT me 16:22, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Our old "friend"
[edit]Hi JLAN. I see you managed to nip his latest incarnation in the bud. Bravo! He's also socking again at Commons as Endora21anni, and uploading loads of dubious stuff. But trying to get him stopped there is such a time-sink that I'm just going to leave it be. Also, did you notice File:Antonio Bonetti, Lago di Como Lierna, olio su tela, 30x40cm, 1770.png which he tried to upload to Antonio Bonetti? The style doesn't look remotely like that of a painter from the mid-18th century. The signature is also not appropriate to the time and the first name does not appear to be "Antonio". There were several later Italian painters named Bonetti. Once again, I think he's completely making this up. But again, this is Commons's problem and one for it:Antonio Bonetti. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 09:55, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, VdT, how are you keeping in these strange and dangerous times? Well, I hope! I'm lucky enough to be in an isolated farmhouse, and am mostly following Voltaire's advice to "cultiver son jardin" – which at the moment consists of preparing for what promises to be a bumper olive harvest. I looked at the global contributions of that incarnation, and was overwhelmed with accidie or Weltschmerz or something – I felt that I really should do something, but we seem to have no cross-wiki structures or processes that might even start to cope with his nonsense, and I really don't think that you or I should be trying to fill that gap. In fact, just what Voltaire/Candide said! I didn't look at the picture, but will do so now that you've raised those doubts. Best regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:29, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi back, JLAN. Yes, we're keeping well. Life in London is fine. Our apartment has a terrace and communal gardens so we're not in a concrete jungle. And I must say, the Covid stay-at-home in the spring did wonders for the plants on the terrace. Like you, I followed Voltaire's advice. We spent all of August and early September in our Maremma-seaside house. Utter bliss. Didn't want to come home. Anyhow, despite my swearing that I wasn't going to do anything about the Smithson miasma at Commons, I nominated the painting for deletion as copyvio here and filed a checkuser report Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Alec Smithson. Meanwhile, Mr. 151.21.149.67 is still running rampant at IT WP, but I've stayed away from that. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:48, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

- Hi, Elisfkc, I'm afraid I've been slow to reply to this! I'm not too keen on restoring sockpuppet content to the project. It'd probably be better if you re-start the page from scratch. If you think it would help, I could email you the previous content for reference, but preferably not re-use. Let me know? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:00, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Justlettersandnumbers: that works, though I'd prefer if you could just drop it on my sandbox. --Elisfkc (talk) 01:59, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers
[edit]You recently deleted the page 5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, as it was created by the banned user J-Man11 (talk · contribs) is there no way that we can keep this page, as it was a fairly decent article, that I have linked to on numerous occasions. Thanks– SmartyPants22 (talk) 18:40, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, SmartyPants22! Please see my reply to User:Elisfkc immediately above this. If you feel inclined to restart the page from scratch that would probably be preferable; I could email the previous text to you for reference purposes if you like? Let me know? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:06, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I'm sure that you can understand the frustration. The user in question created numerous well-written, well-referenced, quite large articles, and now they've all been deleted.– SmartyPants22 (talk) 22:03, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Brown Swiss / Swiss Brown
[edit]Thanks for making me aware of mixing up these two breeds ! Of course my photo shows the Swiss Brown (Braunvieh) Regards --Olga Ernst (talk) 20:14, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Olga Ernst! Your photos of these cattle are excellent and informative, many thanks for them! I think that probably all of them should be removed from Commons Category:Brown Swiss, and that some or all should be renamed. I'd suggest substituting "Braunvieh" for "Brown Swiss" in each name (the name "Swiss Brown" is not widely used). Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- That maybe your experience; it's not mine. I'd never heard of either "Braunvieh" or "Brown Swiss" until the last week. Johnbod (talk) 04:14, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Justlettersandnumbers and yes, I want to have my files renamed, but before I do so, I want to ask the farmer whom the cattle belong to. Just to be on the safe side ! Thanks for helping ! Regards --Olga Ernst (talk) 21:32, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Better still if you can do that, Olga Ernst, thank you! To be clear: I certainly don't have a sufficient familiarity with these two closely-related breeds to be able to distinguish them in photographs. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:40, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
I removed the photos from Category:Brown Swiss ! As soon as I get information, I'll ask for renaming the files. --Olga Ernst (talk) 21:47, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- All files renamed and thanks again ! Regards --Olga Ernst (talk) 21:19, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

SNEC on SingHealth page
[edit]Hi, you have removed the updated info about Singapore National Eye Centre on SingHealth page. You mentioned copyright to be an issue. I've just paraphrased text and added references as suggested. Could you have a look and let me know if any more needs to be done on my part please? Would you help to edit instead of removing it (just suggesting here), as the information IS outdated. When you revert the text to what it was, though I know you are doing it with best intentions, it can hardly be considered accurate. Warmly, --Rebec190 (talk) 07:48, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Rebec190! As a paid editor you are strongly discouraged from directly editing that article; it would be better to use the talk-page to propose any changes you think necessary. You may not copy or closely follow the publicity materials of the centre into Wikipedia, please do not do so again. Promotional content is never acceptable – neutrality is one of the five pillars of this project. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:37, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Copyright violation...
[edit]This edit appears to be a copyright violation from here. I'm like swamped outside Wiki - so can't take care of it. --Ealdgyth (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Ealdgyth! I agree, I've removed that and some other stuff added by the same IP editor. I could only see little snippets of Northumbria: History and Identity, 547-2000 by Robert Colls, but there seemed to be too much similarity for comfort. If you happen to have that book perhaps you could look at that when you have some time to spare? Meanwhile, I hope the "swamping" is by something positive or pleasant, and that you are managing to keep yourselves (and horses!) well and safe in these strange and dangerous times. Ada Ehi Page Edit
[edit]Sorry it took me long to respond as I initially didn't know how to do so and coupled to other factors relating to the covid - 19 pandemics in regards to receiving compensations or any form of payment directly or indirectly for any edit on the Ada Ehi wiki profile or any of my edit at all on wiki in general. I have in no way received any payment from anyone for any of my edits on wikipedia. I only made those edits as it linked back her works to her digital space so anyone who comes to read about her can easily get to find her beautiful works of art in terms of her songs just as a few has been done initially by other editors. Thanks and best regard MasterOliverTwist MasterOliverTwist (talk) 07:54, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- MasterOliverTwist, as "one of the official crew of the Ada Ehi Management team", you have a clear financial connection to that topic; before making any further edit relating to Ada Ehi you must make an appropriate paid-editor disclosure; you are, as before, strongly discouraged from editing that article, but are welcome to propose improvements on the talk-page. Query about a source of information
[edit]http://www.southasiaarchive.com/Content/sarf.120219/227209/008, is this material will be counted as Copyrighted? Can I use this as citation? Soumyadip Dewanji (talk) 18:11, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking, Soumyadip Dewanji I can't actually see that source, but with that as with any other external source, you are free to make use of the facts and ideas presented in it, but must express those facts and ideas entirely in your own words. With rare exceptions, you may not copy (or directly translate) from that or any other source. In other words: you may freely use it as a citation, but citing a source does not make it OK to copy text from it. If this isn't clear to you I'm happy to try to explain in more detail, please just ask! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:25, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
I want to add some informations from a journal(non-research), Which I found on Internet, that journal is in bengali, can I use those informations in English by translating them? if direct translations are prohibited, then how to use them properly? Soumyadip Dewanji (talk) 19:05, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Again, thanks for asking, Soumyadip Dewanji. There's actually no real difference between using a source in English and a source in another language: you can freely use the ideas and information from the source, but you can't use the way those facts and ideas are presented (either by copying or by directly translating) – all text you write must be your in your own words, and should normally be quite different from that of the source. It often helps if you change the order in which you present the bits of information, or if you take info from more than one source; I find that it also helps to write sentences exactly as I would say them, using the words I would normally use (just as I'm doing while writing this).
- You are welcome to ask questions here, but you only get one answer (mine), which may be incomplete. I've left you an invitation to the Teahouse, which is a place for newer editors to ask for help and advice, and get answers from more experienced ones. I encourage you to give it a try. - MasterOliverTwist, I warned you higher up this page not to make any further edit relating to Ada Ehi without first making appropriate paid-editor disclosure. You've chosen to ignore that warning, so your account will remain WP:blocked until you comply; disclosure is obligatory under our Terms of Use. There are instructions on your talk-page on what to do to be unblocked. If you have any interest in making any useful contribution to this project there should be no difficulty; you are unlikely to be unblocked to continue to promote these people, because Wikipedia does not allow promotion of any kind. Hi, so this was created by a blocked/banned editor and tagged for G5 by RoySmith. Since it was created, it was heavily edited by Headbomb and myself. We sourced the article and showed notability for the journal. In addition, I may be wrong here because I don't go often to sockpuppet investigations, but it seems to me that the sockmaster was blocked on November 10 and the sock only on Sept 22. The article was created on Aug 7, socking doesn't seem to have played a role, it wasn't spam. Isn't deleting this at this stage akin to throwing out the baby with the bathwater? --Randykitty (talk) 22:54, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- PS: This only came to my attention because I had uploaded a figure file of the journal cover and got a notification that this file is now orphaned. Without that, I'd never even have known that an article on which I spend some non-trivial time had disappeared. --Randykitty (talk) 22:57, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

- Voceditenore, I did see your ping from that page, and haven't forgotten about it, just haven't found a sufficient space to look at it carefully yet, sorry! I did glance at it, and was confident that your reply was essentially right. Do you have access to that thematic catalogue by any chance? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:04, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- I don't have access to it. It's available at Hathi Trust [14], but for limited search only, at least for people accessing from outside the US. It was originally a 1997 PhD thesis which was published as a book 3 years later. It's unclear, if the list in the WP article is a wholesale copy of the way it's presented in the book. FYI
[edit]Hi, it's worth noting that Le Testament is not as straightforward as the Pound scholarship makes out. It wasn't really an opera. I was actually thinking of redirecting it to the Pound bio. If it does have its own article, it would have to be sourced to a wider scholarship to ensure NPOV. SarahSV (talk) 20:23, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I know it isn't, SlimVirgin – the Grove article actually puts single quotes round 'operas'. However, it's clearly a fully notable work by a rather famous (or infamous if you dislike Fascist collaborators) poet. What do you think is likely to be non-neutral about the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:54, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- It's not the publications that are the problem but the authors. Speaking generally (I don't want to discuss individuals for BLP reasons), the core Pound scholarship tends to present him in an extremely positive light, so it makes sense to look for sources beyond that. SarahSV (talk) 21:55, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not a Pound fan (give me Eliot any day), so I wouldn't really know. Do you see anything non-neutral in either the Grove article or in the text I wrote based on it? Hmm, I suppose that "Pound's style is possibly the most original devised by an amateur" could be criticised as being too subjective for an encyclopaedia, but I'm not sure that it amounts to an "extremely positive light" does it? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:30, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- I would say so, yes. But I can't see the whole Grove article, so I can't judge it yet. SarahSV (talk) 22:45, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Dog hiking
[edit]Hello JLAN, I hope you are well. In the last 24 hours I have twice reverted a series of edits at Dog hiking (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) (in addition to once by Cluebot) that are pretty much copyvios of https://www.backpacker.com/skills/the-manual-take-your-dog-hiking. I have requested pending changes protection for the page, but do you think it is worthwhile deleting the offending revisions?
Also, would you be happy to grant me rollbacker rights? I think it would be helpful when doing my patrolling at dogs recent changes, if you are uncomfortable doing so I am happy to make a request at requests for permissions. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 22:52, 2 December 2020 (UTC).
- Thank you very much. It is somewhat ironic that my first use of the right has inadvertent and had to be self-reverted. Cavalryman (talk) 23:46, 2 December 2020 (UTC).
- (edit conflict) Hi, Cavalryman, and welcome to this page which I don't think you have previously visited? Yes, the copyvios were definitely serious enough to need revdeletion, which I've now done (I found copying from this source too). Scottywong has very promptly made sure that there won't be any further copyvio from that quarter. As for the rollbacker right, I'm quite sure you should have it, so ... you do! As I'm sure you already know, it needs to be used with care. I know I haven't replied at the Segugio Italiano page, but will do so when I find a moment. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:54, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the welcome. Yes I saw Scottywong was on it immediately, very prompt administrative response. I am going to have to investigate installing a user script to control this new user right, it was embarrassing that despite the warnings my fat fingers found the new button immediately. Re Segugio Italiano I am in no hurry, as I have said I am unfussed whichever way. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 00:59, 3 December 2020 (UTC).

More copyright violations- List of Trapper John, M.D. episodes
[edit]I checked about a half dozen episode summaries. They were all copy and pasted from IMDB. So I rollbacked[15] the page to 2012! You may want to complete the process....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 00:49, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to have been slow to answer this, {{u|WilliamJE}. I've spent some time looking at it, and although I'm quite certain that those summaries were copied from somewhere, I'm not able to confirm it – the relevant IMDb pages don't seem to have been archived. That being so, I don't think it's appropriate to revdelete essentially the whole history. By the way, I think your edit would have a better chance of sticking if you restore the bare bones of the table for each season – without the offending summaries, of course. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:27, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
I have included a link to the filmmaker's personal website where the bio I used for this article to collate the facts, it has at the bottom of the pdf written
The text of this page is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts)
http://lorenzodestefano.com/lorenzo-bio-wikipedia.pdf
The link you used to cite copyright usage has been revoked by the filmmaker and taken off that website in question and therefore should not be used on your behalf as proof of copyright usage, as it is no longer available for the public view.
I have included a link to the bio with the proper text in the external links of the wiki article I submitted.
I have also removed all mention of https://www.nambaarts.com/ from this Wikipedia article and mention in the bio
Mexicajedi (talk) 02:27, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Mexicajedi! I can't determine with certainty which of those two pages is the earlier; however, the nambaarts.com page is dated 23 December 2019, and that's well before you created the draft. If you want to write about DeStefano I suggest that you do so entirely in your own words and in a neutral and encyclopaedic tone – Wikipedia does not publish promotional content of any kind, and that includes autobiographies. However, before you do that or anything else, you should disclose the nature of your connection to this person (every edit you have made here relates to him). Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:58, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi,
The nambarts bio should be deleted from the server as soon as that web editor gets a chance, that bio, as you mentioned, is dated Dec 2019. The bio I linked to you is dated Dec 2020. The link to the 2019 edit on the website has already been deleted along with all mentions on the wiki article and bio that was given to you to look at. I am the web editor of all of the filmmaker's websites since 2011, hence I have the authority to write about him and use the bio as a reference. I understand your point about including autobiographies as a wiki article, if I create the article in a narrative encyclopedic tone and use the bio as a reference rather than point by point, will I be able to continue? Mexicajedi (talk) 11:28, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Then you must make make an appropriate paid-editor disclosure before anything else, Mexicajedi. Once that's done, you are permitted to restart the draft; everything you write must be in your own words, in a suitably encyclopaedic tone, and supported by independent reliable sources – i.e., not his own promotional materials. Please take any further questions to the Teahouse. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:37, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

- Airizarry018, you can work on rewriting the page here (please follow that link to reach the page). I suggest that you do not re-use any text from the previous version, which as you can see here contains substantial copying from a number of sources. Everything you write must be entirely in your own words, in a neutral and encyclopaedic tone, and supported by independent reliable sources (i.e., not its own website). If you have a connection to the council you must disclose it. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:08, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

3rd (Ulster) Searchlight Regiment, Royal Artillery
[edit]Hello, I have contributed a sigificant number of pages and edits over the years, primarily on artilery regiments of the Royal Artillery and related items (initially mentored by Buckshot06). Back in October I was about to add some additional material on 54th and 58th Anti-Tank Regiments to the existing page on their parent unit, the 1st Dumbartonshire Rifle Volunteers, only to find that the page had been deleted on 23 October (and the 54th and 58th redirects reassigned). Now I was about to post a new article on 3rd (Ulster) Searchlight Regiment, Royal Artillery, to fill one of the remaining gaps in Wikipedia's coverage of RA S/L units, only to find that there had been a previous page with this title, also deleted on 23 October (hence the gap in the coverage). Since I have the relevant source materials available and will of course write them in such a way as not to infringe copyright, using images only from Wikimedia Commons, should I follow the advice you gave to Elisfk and Smartypants22 above, and replace the deleted pages?Rickfive (talk) 15:50, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Rickfive! You're more than welcome to recreate either or both of those articles, thank you! If you would like to see the previous content for reference, I can either email it to you or put it in your userspace, just say the word. If you're interested in reading up on the background to those deletions, it's here. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:22, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
Hurdio
[edit]user:Hurdio is abusing her talkpage. CLCStudent (talk) 12:03, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, CLCStudent! Materialscientist promptly dealt with that, as with so many other things. You're always welcome to bring stuff like that here, thanks for doing so this time. However, for another time: as I understand it, I can't mess with a checkuser block – not long ago we lost a valuable admin who had done just that. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:16, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Requesting updating of Women related laws in Pakistan with new text
[edit]Greetings @ @Justlettersandnumbers:,
As per due Wikipedia's expected due process I have updated Talk:Women related laws in Pakistan/Temp building it from scratch with proper close paraphrasing. I suppose it would be acceptable at least as a stub.
Since updating of Talk:Women related laws in Pakistan/Temp we will not be depending on previous text of the article, I requesting to shift the text from Talk:Women related laws in Pakistan/Temp to Women related laws in Pakistan.
Thanks and warm regards

To anyone and everyone who watches or visits this page
[edit]My very best wishes to you all for the holiday season and for the New Year. For family reasons I'm likely to be on Wikipedia only infrequently, if at all, for a few days at least. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:57, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
Sorry to bug you about this same article, but can you take a look at the new content that was added the other day? All of it seems to me to be extremely closely paraphrased from the sources, but I'm not confident enough about close paraphrasing to tag it for speedy on CV grounds. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 08:23, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Premeditated Chaos, no apology necessary, any time. I'd not noticed the revert (which is what it essentially was), and have undone it. That's a student of ethics, a certain irony there! Best wishes of season, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:40, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking care of it, best wishes to you too :) ♠PMC♠ (talk) 01:21, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Briana Cash
[edit]Hi Justlettersandnumbers,
I am trying to create the page for Briana Cash, a talented musician, and I see that you deleted it. Could you please tell me specifically why you deleted the page, as I am looking to keep editing it.
Thank you for your communication. Wordsthatsay (talk) 19:37, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Wordsthatsay
- Wordsthatsay, you have never edited that page or any other – your message here is your first and only edit in this project. The draft was deleted for two reasons: it was unambiguously promotional, and it was substantially or entirely copied from her website. So if you choose to start again, do please take care to write entirely in your own words, and to avoid like the plague stuff like "Her eclectic writing technique and diverse sound covers a lot of ground". If you have any connection to her you must disclose it. Good luck! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:04, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Justlettersandnumbers,
Thank you so much for your reply. I had inputted the bio as a placeholder as I was making edits that are in my own words. Now going forward, I will make my edits outside of Wikipedia and only transfer over when finished.
I do have a connection to Briana Cash (friend), could you please let me know how to disclose this? Sincerely, Wordsthatsay (talk) 21:46, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Wordsthatsay
Hi Justlettersandnumbers, I wanted to follow up on my message above from 27 Dec 2020 at 21:46. Thank you greatly! Wordsthatsay (talk) 02:14, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Wordsthatsay
- Wordsthatsay, the simplest way is to place a {{UserboxCOI}} template on your user-page, User:Wordsthatsay. HNY! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:22, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Justlettersandnumbers, thank you for your reply. Do you work for Wikipedia? What is your capacity with the company or do you review Wikipedia pages for fun? Wordsthatsay (talk) 22:54, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Wordsthatsay
Hi Justlettersandnumbers, would you be so kind to review the COI template before I submit my Briana Cash Wikipedia page for review? Here is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wordsthatsay?action=edit thank you! Wordsthatsay (talk) 15:16, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Wordsthatsay
