Thiethylperazine maleate (Torecan) an antiemetic agent used to control nausea and vomiting associated with vertigo.

Side Effects Transient leukopenia ( decrease amount of leukocytes) Extrapyramidal symptoms e.g. extreme restlessness, involuntary movements, and uncontrollable speech Orthostatic hypotension Blurred vision, photosensitivity Dry mouth Constipation Urine retention

Nursing Considerations Give deep IM Stay in bed for one hour after receiving drug (watch out for extreme reactions to the drug) Wear protective clothing when exposed to sunlight
