i made edits to the article on the Keeling curve CO2 data and they disappeared...how to i find out whom to work with to add some analytical material to this article...doesn't the system inform a contributor of changes to their changes?
- Oh, it looks like a user removed your info because it was unsourced to a reliable source, so the user removed the content which at the time was fine. If you need help with that article relating to the topic, I would highly recommend this link. Also if there is a page that you frequently edit, just add it to your watchlist. Prabash.Akmeemana 16:05, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It was this edit made by editor William M. Connolley who reverted your edits. Connolley's reason in the edit summary was "OR, I think, unless you can find a source for the fit (not just the numbers)". "OR" means "original research", which is not used in Wikipedia. Connolley suggests that you include a reliable source with your edits. If you would like to find out more, then you can start a dialog on the talk page of that article. Hope this helps. Joys! – PAINE ELLSWORTH CLIMAX! 16:10, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) PS. In the Vector face that I use to edit Wikipedia, there is a symbol to the right of my username at the very TOP of each page. That symbol is usually a white zero (0) on gray background. That is the notification symbol and it turns red when there are notifications such as when your edits are reverted. Click on that symbol and it will show you your recent notifications. If it isn't working then go to your Preferences and click on Notifications to set it. – PAINE ELLSWORTH CLIMAX!
- As an additional note, there is an option in 'Preferences' (at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-watchlist specifically) to automatically add pages thet you edit to your watchlist. Revent (talk) 16:24, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
raster article
[edit]OK, then let's get the 2 images attached to my 2 articles...both images are probably on W's servers somewhere, or i can upload them again...
- Well, let's see: looking at your upload log, your image File:The_use_of_a_raster_data_structure_to_summarize_a_point_pattern.gif exists: it looks like this:
- You don't seem to have uploaded any other images. To prevent losing images in future I suggest you add the "file description page" to your browser bookmarks after you have uploaded the image, so you can get to it, and you don't have to remember the file name.
- Hope this helps. (P.S. in future, please write your reply beneath the comment you are replying to - it just helps to keep the discussion organised.) — This, that, and the other (talk) 10:08, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, we've linked the raster data article with its image. I'd like the file name to be shorter if possible - do i upload the image under another name, or rename it; and how does the article refer to the image? The OTHER article on point pattern analysis has lost its image, probably because i've been unable to give it permissions that W was happy with. There needs to be a simple template (not sure if this is the correct term) for uploaded images that are completely one's own work. Thanks for your help! Lee De Cola (talk) 17:22, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry too much about the file name. It's too much of a fuss to change it.
- To reference an image in a page, use the following syntax:
[[File:filename goes here.jpg|280px|thumb]]
, where "280px" is the width (you can leave this out if you want)
- My preferred templates to use for self-licensing are
{{cc-by-sa-3.0|Ldecola}}
or{{pd-self}}
. Take a look and take your pick. — This, that, and the other (talk) 01:47, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, i used the existing file name for the raster data article and re-uploaded the image for the point pattern analysis article.Lee De Cola (talk) 18:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good! — This, that, and the other (talk) 07:00, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
in my over 40 years of computer programming writing for wikipedia ranks near the top in my frustration level... and the experience is made even more galling in the face of all the happy-talk about how easy everything is supposed to be...Lee De Cola (talk) 18:01, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Don't forget that many people are here to help you! Just take a deep breath and be prepared to dive into the complexities of Wikipedia's site software. It was originally written for techy-minded people, so it shouldn't be too difficult for you, as a programmer, to adjust to: just think of it as editing a database (because that is exactly what goes on behind the scenes). — This, that, and the other (talk) 10:14, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

finding lost pages
[edit]Regarding your lost page, see User:Ldecola/Raster_data. To find lost pages in future, click "my contributions" up the top of any page, and look through for the appropriate page. — This, that, and the other (talk) 09:45, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, seems like it made it into the main article space, at Raster data. But my other comment about finding lost pages still stands. — This, that, and the other (talk) 09:51, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
point pattern analysis article
[edit]YOU WANT A QUESTION HERE? SORRY, I DON'T UNDERSTAND...OH MY - I GUESS I SHOULD TRY TO FIND A BOOK ON WRITING FOR WIKIPEDIA...SUGGESTIONS?
- I wrote an article on point pattern analysis that used a graphic I created completely from scratch, but apparently I didn't add the requisite permission template, so the graphic seems to have been pulled. Please help me do the right thing.
- I began an article on raster data but can't find it.
Lee De Cola (talk) 21:22, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- You appear to have overcome the licensing hurdle. I agree with you, uploading images to Wikipedia is no easy task – I believe some improvements to the system are planned.
- But, now that the image is uploaded, the next step is using the image. What exactly do you want to do with this image? If you want to add to an article, which article? — This, that, and the other (talk) 09:29, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

OK, the image is for an article i've written that's visible to me only, and i want to 'publish' it to all Wikipedia users.Lee De Cola (talk) 04:01, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- You should be able to "move" it to articlespace: hover over the arrow that appears next to the "View history" tab, click "Move", fill out the form, and click the button. — This, that, and the other (talk) 23:57, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, i don't see a 'view history' tab, but do see a tab that would let me move User:ldecola somewhere, which isn't what i want to do. i feel like i'm missing some basic tutorial-type information/experience.
- Hmm... I don't understand why you don't see a "view history" tab. Oh well, if you find the "move" button, that should do the trick. Your draft page is currently stored at User:Ldecola (click the link to prove it!), so you actually do want to move the "User:Ldecola" page. It won't change your username or anything.
- There is a general tutorial at WP:Tutorial, but it's not brilliant. — This, that, and the other (talk) 06:44, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
I moved ldecola (which i guess is ALL my stuff, but is only the page i'm working on) to 'Wikipedia: Point Pattern Analysis'...the tutorial doesn't say anything about how to 'go public.' As an educator, i think we need a complete tutorial, from sandbox, thru user, to public (and maybe sandbox isn't really a useful step!)...thanks for your help (whoever you are). Lee De Cola.Lee De Cola (talk) 18:00, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- Somehow this page (your user talk page) ended up in article-space. This wasn't your fault: it was an error made by another user. It has been moved back (or it will have been moved when you read this message). Good luck with your future wiki-editing. – I'm always happy to help you out. — This, that, and the other (talk) 01:54, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Point pattern.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Point pattern.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 02:58, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

VIX article
[edit]i added a graphic, which i think is an improvement over the first graphic shown and with the permission of those who manage the article, i suggest the new graphic should be moved up and substituted for the existing one.Lee De Cola (talk) 20:16, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:Us working hours.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Us working hours.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 17:45, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

I created and uploaded the second image in the Phenology article but need help fixing the reference in the caption. Lee De Cola (talk) 03:45, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- If you go to the article at the eca website and click on the "tools" button, it will give you some options on how to cite it. You should be able to take that block of text that appears below "How to cite" and parse out the authors, title, etc including the doi and format a {{cite journal}} template accordingly. Sometimes you get a fully fleshed out Wikipedia citation, but I don't think this site offers that as an option. Is this sufficient help? If not, you can turn the template back into a {{help me}} template and someone will get back to you shortly. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:05, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
I edited the caption citation at Wikimedia Commons, which takes readers to a simple link to the journal article in the reference section. I'd have preferred the reference to contain the full article citation and a link; i'll try that next. —Ldecola (talk • contribs) 14:57, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- While it's good for the description on Commons to contain a citation to the data source, the caption in the Phenology article does not come from Commons, it's coded in the wikitext next to the image call. When I looked at it last night, it was a barelink, a just acceptable, but not preferred, form of citation (for more info, perhaps see LINKROT). Expanding it to a full {{cite journal}} is the right thing to aim for. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 16:11, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
I think the necessary info is in the image's citation; if you'd edit it to your liking i'd examine it and learn from what you did - thanks!

[edit]Hello, I'm Doniago. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view.
