Information icon Hello, I'm WaIterFord. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Lost shark, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. WaIterFord (talk) 23:33, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Image uploads and license tags

[edit]

File:Dichichthys melanobranchus.png uploaded today locally is tagged with cc-by, but it is very clearly taken from the paper White, William T.; Stewart, Andrew L.; O’Neill, Helen L.; Naylor, Gavin J. P. (March 28, 2024). "Dichichthyidae, a New Family of Deepwater Sharks (Carcharhiniformes) from the Indo–West Pacific, with Description of a New Species". Fishes. 9 (4). MDPI AG: 121. doi:10.3390/fishes9040121. ISSN 2410-3888.

File:Dichichthys satoi.png is from the same paper. It has already been deleted twice, first by Fastily on October 22nd, then it was re-uploaded within 12 minutes and deleted by Explicit today, and then you have re-uploaded it for a third time.

Looking at gallery on Commons, the three files

are from the same paper, but tagged as "own work". Are they really? Sam Sailor 19:53, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These images have been taken from this paper which is marked as "distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)" but these images are not the work of the authors and covered by that license. The photo captions clearly identify that these are copyrighted images. -- Whpq (talk) 18:30, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Dichichthys satoi.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation of https://www.mdpi.com/2410-3888/9/4/121 and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
