Dear Friend
[edit]I don't know how to report 3RR violation corrctly. User:Witkacy did that on Lithuania article. Could you protect my User Page against User:Witkacy's vandalism? An why they protected User:Witkacy's version on Lithuania article? May be I am wrong? Bf-109 19:09, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

protection
[edit]Thanks for your very fast reaction to my request of protection of the Anti-Polonism article, but unfortunately it was protected before I managed to revert latest vandalism. Can you please revert it to the last version before the changes made by User:Breschie? This page also should have NPOV-section tag under the Anti-Polonism in Germany section. Thank you. --SylwiaS 00:20, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- ~ Hello, I would ask you if you could swap the protected version with either that of either "18:47, 14. Aug 2005" (comparing to the current:[1], as you can see the changes are not unreasonable) or "23:25, 14. Aug 2005"(comparing to the current:[2]), the latter containing the edits of Alx-pl. The {totallydisputed} is justified because the article is not only vehemently biased as also the disputes on the talk page show; but also does the article contain far more than 5 dubious statements, whose verification no one could provide up till now, and so according to the guideline Wikipedia:Disputed statement ("If there are more than 5 dubious statements, or if a dispute arises: First, insert a "Disputed" section in the talk page to describe the problem. This will help focus contributions from others. Insert {disputed}} in the beginning of the article to add a general warning. Check dispute resolution for ways to resolve it.") an accuracy dispute should be marked, not concealed as some others are constantly trying to do. Thank you in advance. NightBeAsT 00:45, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Nightbeast, I asked for protection because the article has been constantly vandalised and reverted. I've read your comment on the talk page and I am open for discussion but not for revert war. Many sentences, which you marked as disputed are sourced. I will come with answers and I'm sure other editors will do as well, but I would also ask you to bring any sources not only ask for them. I hope we can move the discussion to the article talk page and work on improving it together. --SylwiaS 01:02, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- ~ No, not many are of the disputed statements are sourced, only two are sourced. The statement about courts, one of those two sources, is wrong according to the given source, like 141.89.66.2 put it [3]. The other sourced one is in polish and there is no other source if you enter "CDU anti-polonism" in google, except for Wikipedia and its mirrors. I therefore doubt the source is reliable. But whether you want to discuss them sometime or not, they're disputed. I would be very interested in why [4] should not be preferred. That reduction of bias would also without a doubt reduce the number of vandals.NightBeAsT 01:25, 15 August 2005 (UTC) What's the matter now?NightBeAsT 12:10, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

New User Question
[edit]- John P. Jones Thanks for your welcome. I'm obviously a newcomer to Wikipedia, both as a user and as a contributor. Could you check "Color Organ" and tell me what's wrong with the images. I intend to expand this to show what a color organ is, but I can't do it without photos. These are taken with my wife's digital camera and I want to put them in publc domain (if I am having copyright problems). The copyright explanations are lengthy and I don't understand where {{CopyrightedFreeUse}} or {{CopyrightedFreeUse-User}} or the public domain symbol goes. If there's not info for talk here, just edit "color organ". PS the 12-hour limit on Sandbox makes it worthless for me - I've spent at least an hour a day on 3 for the last five days. User:John P. Jones 15:15, 15 August 2005 (EST)
John P. Jones 16:07, 17 August 2005 (UTC)John (Is this what you mean?)
Added 8/24/05
- John P. Jones I'm still not sure how to put my images in the public domain. Clinking "Public Domain" at upload explains what it is but not how to do it. I don't understand "tagging". Please check the pictures with "Color Organ" and see if the verbage I added is sufficient. Also, I hope you or someone can make Figure 6 viewable.
Thanks
New User Question
[edit]Hi. I just noticed you left me a message. I'm not sure what "My Page" is about. At first I thought it was where I'm supposed to write about me, but then I thought I read something that said DO NOT advertise yourself?? So, what do I do? Make a page about me or leave it blank? Hey Mate
[edit]Guess things solved themselves on that thing. Hopefully there won't be a wikifeud between me and kappa now, but i'll try my best to avoid it while questioning his reasoning. Anywho, I was wondering if you could help with my proto-user box for Babel for users who can speak "Townie" or Massachusetts English (eg. "Pahk Yah Cah In Hahvahd Yahd..."), here's what I have so far, but I was was wondering how to make it so I could get something that people can type in brackets to get my box in there like {{user en}} or {{vfd}} . Template talk was no help, I was wondering if you could give some advice. If not, no big deal, if you can or if you know somebody, that'd be great. Karmafist 23:58, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Lemme check the sandbox, I tried that last night and it didn't work. Karmafist 00:08, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yep, it worked alright! Just started my new sandbox. "Wicked Pissah" is a blue collar colloquial term here in New England(the US one, not the one in New South Wales) roughly translated into what "Bonzer" would be down in your neck of the woods. Our local lingo is fading somewhat with linguistic standardization that's coming from the global village, but there are still some words you can use in certain areas up here ("pissah", "pako", "statee", etc.) that people would understand. A great example of this accent can be found in Good Will Hunting.
- I was also thinking of making a lower level proficiency and saying that the user was still "ratha retahded" (rather retarded), since to the Townies, retarded is a commonly used and less offensive word than in other areas, but I figured against it since alot of people would find it to be phrase against Wikipedia's civility policies. Karmafist 00:20, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yep, he's not a bad guy, just a little zealous on the inclusionism. Now i'm having problems with the category section. Sigh... Karmafist 00:36, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

thank (like everybody :|)
[edit]I'm grateful for your welcome on wikipedia, dunno how you found me but thanks anyway. I have a question actually that I think you could answer to. I created a page a few days ago and the VfD thing hit me in the face, well the discussion seems to go well I think my page will be kept but the general consensus now is for it to be moved. I've read that technically I can move my page very easily but I've also read that administrators are the ones who take the decisions after the VfD has ended. For my page, the end is on Aug 17th (tomorrow) so I don't think it'll change much anymore. So my question is am I allowed to move the page before the end of VfD even if it's not officially decided (I totally agree with the move, the bad naming was a newbie mistake on my part) or should I wait passively for the decision of a godly admin ? :) Thiste 04:11, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fast answer. I was just worried for a group of people that I know care about the subject of my article and who could get confused over the move. I just wanted to make the change as soon as possible (besides I don't like to wait days for stuff that could be done now :) but don't worry I know rules are for the greater good). Also, in your answer are you hinting at the fact that I shouldn't involve myself in the move process at all ? Or could I move it myself once the VfD is over ? (if it's the retained solution of course)
Thanks for the welcoming

Question about Copyright Tag Creation
[edit]The image covered by the copyright at this URL http://www.lanl.gov/misc/copyright.html seems to be useable with WikiPedia, but there's no specific tag that really covers it, and I'm not sure how the terms of the free use provision (crediting photo author, including notice) apply in a web context (especially the latter). Here's the page I used an image covered by it on, and if you click on the image, you'll see the copyright tag I picked, etc. Is this kosher?
Thanks from another (tired) Aussie...
[edit]Longhair, appreciate your welcome & helpful advice; I will know where to come for help in future. Being another Aussie means we have some chance of understanding each other (perhaps both sleep-challenged today on account of a couple of gr8 test matches?!). I also received some incredible help & encouragement from Niteowlneil, so have had a solid intro into how to contribute articles. I hope to do a few on church history, as i get time. The thing i'm most impressed about is the work you guys do in maintaining consistent style and credibility in content - evidence i've discovered that enables me to have confidence in Wikipedia as a useful source of web info. And I think you only get to appreciate this by contributing. Thanks mate!--Alikia 05:53, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
I am going to restore that article. The speedy delete for recreation criteria only holds for identical reposted articles (It was not), and anyway the old arguments in the vfd for deleting the page are outdated as it now way more popular. Thue | talk 06:05, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the welcome. I have used Wikipedia for a long time and just signed up when I felt the strong need to move a page. I put a request up on the talk page and waited a couple of weeks. [edit]Subject: Waldorf Schools > Waldorf Education (moved on the 17th)
Dear Longhair,
Thanks for your note. I'm so close, yet SO far. If you type in "Waldorf education" (lower case e) instead of "Waldorf Education," you get a different page. Can we delete that old page or move it or something? The "Waldorf Schools" page that I redirected from looks fine. Thanks for the note about the links. I am working on them next. Tony Mundine
[edit]Hi, I was wondering why you wanted to merge Tony Mundine with Anthony Mundine. Tony (the dad) was a well-known boxer in his day. Yes, the article is a bit thin at the moment, but it's expandable in principle. I'm guessing you're a young guy and only know Mundine Sr as Anthony's trainer, but he's well enough known in his own right, I reckon, to have a page. Clair de Lune 02:52, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
An Administrator's Work Is Never Done...
[edit]Hey man, I've got another question for you.
Hagerman seems to either work or be a big fan of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, at first he seemed to add what looked like it was straight from the park guide, but he fixed a few of the NPOV problems a few minutes ago. I don't want to bite the newcomers, but I was wondering if it was a case of Viral marketing like Jamie Kane, and also what the policy is with Viral marketing. I'll ask some more admins, but I wanted to go to you first since you're a damn good admin. Karmafist 01:15, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks man, I just subscribed, I'll try to find the thrust of the discussion later on. I need to get IRC too. Sadly enough, I've got another problem for you. It seems that i'm on the verge of an edit war in Red Eye(drug), this guy is stating a policy regarding article naming that doesn't exist and being an arrogant little prick about it. However, if I did get into an edit war, it'd get ugly. Quite frankly, I used to think I wanted to avoid this kind of stuff and try to be the "model wikipedian" or whatever, but right now i'm leaning towards "fuck this little shit, if it's not policy, i'm not going to let him act like a know it all jerk to me." I don't know anymore, man. Please let me know your advice. Karmafist 13:57, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- Eh, don't worry about it. What a difference a day makes to help ignore something pointless. Karmafist 19:44, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Longhair. As our resident Australian crime expert, could you please look at the current Australian Collaboration, Snowtown murders and make any suggestions you see fit? The page has changed a lot, but still isn't a really satisfactory article, but I'm stumped what we should do. We also considered changing the name. - Overall Crime Statistics
- Major Events timeline
- Russel st bombing etc..
- Major Events timeline
- Melbourne underworld '(could spin off into its own article later...)
- History
- List of People involed

- Melbourne underworld killing (1998-2004)

[edit]The image you uploaded, Image:Boatsoncoriobay.jpg, has no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be marked for deletion on 24 October 2005.

[edit]What's wrong with listing people's nationalities on wikipedia? They do that with a lot of American articales. They always add someone's ethnicity whether it would be Jewish, Italian, Hispanice, but if I add a category to Stan Zemanek and inform people that he is Czech, it's considered nonsense. I thought Wikipedia was an encyclopedia for everyone to edit. No matter how small or big the information added is! I won't be adding anything anymore, people love the power to annoy ordinary netizens.

[edit]Thank you for your welcome when I first registered as a user.
I was told that there were benefits to being a registered user. I have yet to see any such benefit. I have had a much worse time as a registered user than I had when I was just contributing as an unregistered user. I have noted that many of the users with whom I have come in contact will choose the most spiteful and least diplomatic manner possible to achieve what they want, and ignore equally effective more diplomatic means which are available. I would hardly call that a benefit. Figaro 03:55, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Please unprotect the page now. The death and execution has been confirmed, as per the following news article. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17435507-23109,00.html --Peter McGinley 23:31, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Cnwb's RfA
[edit]Longhair,
Thanks so very much for supporting my Request for Admin. The final result was 38/0/0. I'm looking forward to spending my summer holidays shut away in a darkened room, drinking G&Ts and playing with my new tools ;-) Please accept this Tim Tam as a token of my gratitude. Cnwb 22:57, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Please undelete
[edit]You deleted this user page, presumably because he requested it, but the history contains some important references that I need, including a history of it being vandalized. In general, I've never heard of anyone deleting a User page like that, since the WP:CSD guidelines speak only about sub-pages (like User:Joe\Foo). Wikipedia:User page gives some guidance, but only says user pages should be deleted if there is "no significant abuse, and no administrative need", such as when someone leaves for good. Cantus certainly hasn't left, and there is a need to retain the page, so please restore it's history. Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 21:51, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- Wow, fast. Thanks much. -- Netoholic @ 21:56, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
My RfA
[edit]Longhair, thanks for your support on my RfA. The final count was 46/0/0. It was great to get the support of so many excellent Australian editors such as yourself. I hope I'll live up to your faith in me in my use of the mop and bucket. Please accept this wikithanks as a token of my gratitude ;) --bainer (talk) 23:10, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Longhair, I noticed that you were one of the main contributors for the articles relating to the Pettingills, and I was wondering if there is any reason the last name is consistently spelled with one l? I am reasonably certain the correct spelling is Pettingill and have not been able to find one Google source outside Wiki for the Pettingil spelling. See [6] and [7] I was prepared to correct it, but as you have done so much work across several linking pages, I was reluctant to butt in without checking with you first. Also, I believe Kath lost her eye in a shooting outside a housing commission flat when she was mistaken for her daughter Vicky, and not at her own house. This is referenced in The Matriarch (but my copy is on loan to a friend so I cannot verify it). Sarah Ewart 04:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Lambing Flat riots
[edit]Hi, I was wondering if the Crime in Australia template was really apropriate to the Lambing Flat riots article? Perhaps if the template was down the bottom of the article rather than so prominently in the top right hand corner it would not worry me. I can see why it might be prominent for some articles but not this one. Regards--A Y Arktos 08:26, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Martinbryant.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Martinbryant.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Adnghiem501 03:13, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Please remove this section from your talk page. The image was deleted. Thank you, Adnghiem501
AFL player infobox
[edit]I don't want to discourage you, but it'd be nice if the infobox contained some content before it was added to articles; Damian Drum tells you nothing that wasn't in the article beforehand, and leaves a big ugly empty box on the page. Ambi 09:06, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, no worries. It was just that the Drum box only had the birthdate and many empty boxes when it was first added; looks fine now though. Ambi 09:14, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding these infoboxes mate, it's an important part of WikiProject AFL. We need to get more photographs of players to add to them though. If it was still footy season I'd be taking photos at games but I guess we can't do anything about that now. Anyway, keep up the good work on AFL. Cheers, Rogerthat 07:04, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
