Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Mdoroshevich, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was BMC Software, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to BMC Software. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Thank you Grayfell, can you please edit my remarks and netralize my tone with the updated information? I can totally appreciate the conflict of interest and will hold on making any more changes. Mdoroshevich (talk) 03:17, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a conflict of interest, it would be best if you explicitly disclose this, especially if you are compensated for editing, per WP:PAID.
You can propose specific changes on the article's talk page: Talk:BMC Software. A good overview of this is here: Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Please also include reliable sources, which should in most cases also be independent sources. Grayfell (talk) 03:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see... thank you for letting me know. I am a BMC employee but am not getting directly compensated for making edits to their wikipedia page. I will go ahead and review the talk BMC page as directed. Thank you Mdoroshevich (talk) 03:30, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I sincerely appreciate your transparency in this. If you would like some more background, I recommend the article Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia, which includes just a small sample of the problems this can cause. Grayfell (talk) 03:39, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit reversion

[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. ~~~~ S Philbrick(Talk) 02:01, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
