Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 logo.svg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 logo.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Need info about vector graphics software.
[edit]I can see that you have made some very valuable contributions to Wikipedia by creating vector graphic maps. I would just like to know which software you use for this kind of activity as I would also like to make similar contributions. Also is that software available freely to download to use? Any help in this matter is welcomed.

Indian religions
[edit]Hi, please refer to the ongoing debate on the discussion pages of Indian religions and edit warring by IAF. The debate has unfortunately degenerated into irrelevant stuff and has become a colossus waste of time. IAF has debased the debate into various wild claims like Jainism is a cult, Parsva is a vedic god, amongst other wild claims. While I am trying to keep the article as Neutral as possible by providing scholarly reference that Sramanas and vedics existed side by side, he is not ready for any consensus or for that matter, accommodate alternative views. I require your assistance. Is there any way to stop this silly arguments and make this article NPOV more if possible. I want to get away from this edit warring and make more positive contributions. Thanks. --Anish (talk) 14:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Something needs to be done on IAF’s disruptive behavior. He is continuously indulging in edit wars making a mockery of wikipedia and has started his usual abusive behavior. He has made a casteist remark by calling my discussion as “street banya-giri”. IR page is going to become a laughing stock for everyone.--Anish (talk) 13:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Wrong Date of Birth for Indu Shahani
[edit]I noticed that you have reverted edits, on Indu Shahanis date of birth, which I had corrected. Her date of birth was mentioned wrongly as March 19 which I changed to July 17. Since the past 5 years I have been her student and have celebrated her birthday with her on July 17. The references cited are totally WRONG. I thought that wikipedia was an encyclopedia to be relied upon, not a misguiding collection of information. If you do not trust people who edit your articles, how can you trust websites which are mentioned as references? How is the credibility of your source determined? Is a wikipedian, who has first hand information lower in trust value, than an external site? Have the editors, or you as an editor verified the reference / source which is giving this information? --Ruzbehraja (talk) 15:03, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Article contributions
[edit]I do see your point, it is a good example. However, I also am a strong believer that a careful vandal fighter who makes very few if any article contributions can be an excellent admin, I feel that this current RfA in particular is a rather deplorable result. You do have a point though, even though fitness for adminship and lack of article writing are not especially related, they can still intersect in unfortunate ways. I just think it is played up too much in some RfAs. RyanGerbil10(Говорить!) 18:57, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
CPI(M) article
[edit]Hi. Sorry to bother. Please have a look at Talk:Communist Party of India (Marxist)? Two anti-CPI(M) users are determined to make the article into their own noticeboard of slander, and the talk just gets weirder and weirder. Conspiracy theories, cheating with sources and insinuations against other editors. A request for intervention from admins has been posted at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Advice few days ago, but no answer has been given so far, any comment on the issue would be highly appreciated. --Soman (talk) 01:34, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Your change at MOSNUM (Commonwealth)
[edit]Canada is in the Commonwealth, but uses the US system more. I'm unsure that all 52 countries in the CoN do use 4 February 1970 (do all Indians?). And I'm unsure that everyone likes to be categorised into what has become a rather arcane institution. :-)
Alternatively, "e.g.," could be used at the start of the list, and/or it could be expanded ... Tony (talk) 07:44, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Indian Rebellion of 1857
[edit]Hi,
When you get a chance, can you take a look at Indian Rebellion of 1857? Some of the recent edits to the article (they are minor grammer changes from first look), make the article look like the Indian rebellion was based on some hypothetical threats faced by Indian Soldiers during 1857.

WikiProject Bangladesh Competition
[edit]Hi Nichalp, we are about to move to the next phase of the competition that we discussed earlier on WikiProject Bangladesh Outreach page. For this purpose, I have started the Deshipidian 2008 page and have also drafted an email for mass circulation to promote the competition. Please review the page and the draft email and let me know if you have any comments. I'm proposing to circulate the email widely starting February 1, 2008. In addition, we will try to get some newspaper coverage for wider publicity. Arman (Talk) 09:24, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Skycell
[edit]An editor has nominated Skycell, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Skycell and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Map sources
[edit]Hi, I have made a few maps for Wikiproject India Maps, and would like to contribute more. I was wondering what sources could be used for making the SVG maps. For example, could I use Google Maps as a source for the base bitmap images? What are the copyright issues involved? Or are we to rely only on free/government published images as sources? Looking forward to your response. Thanks. Mkeranat (talk) 15:33, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Another editor has added the {{prod}}
template to the article Geru, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 18:00, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Any template for Indian weather?
[edit]Hi Nichalp,
Is there any template for Indian city weather? I wanted to add data to Nagpur's climate section but could not get any infobox or template like Template:Infobox_Indian_Jurisdiction. Cities of Canada have something like this. I could not get anything and so finally made a poor table like this. I was wondering if there is anything already present but couldn't find on WP:IND. I tried making one but as usual found it tough. :-) Any help buddy? gppande (talk) 14:52, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I did visit the template but it looks like it is not suited to give city temperatures for all 12 months. I was searching on this for Nagpur article based on Mumbai page( which is FA). I did notice that climate section refers to Main article:Weather of Mumbai and has only summarized data in main article as you recommended. But, even Mumbai has 12 month's climate data recorded in form of chart. I can make a similar chart in Inkscape but I personally think it is not as readable to people as a table. We need to open the chart to see the details as they are too small in a thumbnail image. Also the problem with table is it cannot go along side text as charts do. One row of table consumes one whole line. So I was thinking of an infobox which can lay on the right of page with text along side it on left. Now in absence of an infobox (suited for showing city temperatures for 12 months) I think I would create a chart and move more details into a new page titled Climate of Nagpur. gppande «talk» 14:21, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, after some extensive search I found Template:Climate chart on Pune's page. :-) gppande «talk» 13:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. - That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Map
[edit]Dear User:Nichalp. Thank you for your message on my talk page concerning Image:India subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png. Dealing with your points in order as follows:
- PNG vs. SVG. I am aware of (and agree with) the drive towards the use of vector/SVG images in preference to raster/PNG/others formats, since they offer advantages such as scalability. I also need to point out that while PNG images are deprecated, they are still permitted as per Commons policy, since not all Wikipedians can edit SVG images.
- Use of standard colors. Agreed. Your point also raises the issue of how to depict events (natural disasters, wars, et al) that cross national boundaries, since standards evolved for one country may collide with those evolved for another.
- Accusations of bias. I need to point out that I was aware that areas are under dispute between Pakistan, India and China and took pains to point this out in the description page here. If you were characterising me personally of POV-pushing, then I need to point out that given the limitations of the format (PNG) and editing tool (Microsoft Paint), I drew the map as best as could be done by depicting the areas under administrative control and mentioning the others. My intent was to illustrate a series of floods that killed many people and rendered many more homeless, not to take sides in the dispute.
- Creation of a new SVG map. You unwittingly raise a personally difficult point for me: I do not have access to a computer that I own and have to use those of others during the times which they permit (if I owned a wall and more than one cup, I'd be throwing the cup at the wall in frustration at the moment. But I don't. So I can't.) So I cannot create a new SVG map, since I am unable to download the software to create one. In order to progress the issue, I suggest you contact Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Cartographers and ask them to help you: I note that User:Rarelibra is outstandingly good and is knowledgable about administrative divisions. Conversely, User:Barryob did a lovely map of European Parliament constituencies and would presumably not be adverse to doing new maps for the 2007 South Asian floods article should you ask him.
I hope that addresses the issues you raise.
On a related point, the 2007 South Asian floods article is one of my biggest regrets on Wikipedia: I was the primary (tho not the sole) author between 15 August and 19 September 2007 (see here for proof) and I regret that I could not devote the time and effort to bring the article up to a better quality, since the scale of the flooding and the number of deaths simply defeated me. Should you find someone to bring Image:India subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png up to standard, then it would be a good idea to get them to do the same for Image:South Asia subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png, Image:Bangladesh divisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png, Image:Bangladesh districts flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png, Image:Bhutan subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png, Image:Nepal regions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png. Image:Nepal zones flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png and Image:Pakistan subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png. Those maps were the best that I could do under the circumstances but, as you point out, they could be done better with better technology.
On a wider point (touched on briefly above), there is a need for conventions on Wikipedia that cover natural disasters that cross national boundaries, since the issues you raise of disputed areas and standard coloration will crop up time and time again, in India and in many other places around the world. Are you aware of anybody working on this issue?
Kind regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 01:17, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Dear User:Nichalp. Thank you for your new message on my talk page concerning Image:India subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png. As mentioned above, I do not have the resources to download a SVG editor and, although you are entirely correct that it is possible to edit a SVG file in a text editor, it is not possible to view the resultant file without downloading a viewer/plugin...which I can't. However, it is within my gift to get the PNG version of a SVG file and update that, and this I have done. The resultant change can be seen on Image:India subdivisions flood hit between July 3 and August 15 2007.png. I do not know if blue is the correct color to denote floods (it's not covered under Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maps) but it would seem logical. This PNG change does not solve your long-term preference for SVG images, but it does solve your immediate concern of the depiction of disputed areas.
- I hope that has been of help. Kind regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 23:50, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- As requested, the map has been marked with {{converttoSVG}}. Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 18:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
