Question?
[edit]This week a few (11 Wikipediaers) got together for dinner in Ottawa and were talking about how we need a few more good Canadian admins - Your name was brought up by a few editors - would you be at all interested in this (becoming admin).. I would like to nominate you if this is a process you are willing to go through? I can full understand if you are not interested - I am sure you would have the support of everyone i know. See --> links for what is involved --> Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nominate#To nominate someone else and Wikipedia:Requests for adminship#About RfA. Moxy (talk) 23:15, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Great to hear your willing....I will make up a proposal in my sandbox in a few days or so...then when you get back and if your still willing i submit it. Moxy (talk) 00:27, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Nikkimaria, Looks like we have an edit war going on. This person is not going to quit. His edits are obviously promotional with a dash of COI and POV thrown in. BC talk to me 17:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

"axioms"??
[edit]This strange edit in this mess of an article escaped my attention until now. Your notion of what the word "axiom" means must be altogether unrelated to the standard usage. Michael Hardy (talk) 00:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

GA Review- Rutherford Hayes
[edit]I would like to thank you for your review of Rutherford B. Hayes. It was excellent to finally get an outside perspective on how to improve the article. I may have some questions about your comments, but I don't have any right now off the top of my head. Thanks again! --Schwindtd (talk) 23:05, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh I do have a question now, actually. A lot of the information that you listed as needing references comes from cite 4 at Rutherford B. Hayes, but that reference already has a - y listed and it will have to be ref name ='d a bunch more times. Should I just put it as a general source that is used so frequently that individual references are not necessary. I know some pages do that. With notes and references. If you could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks! --Schwindtd (talk) 23:19, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Also, why "Ref 34 (about.com) is not a reliable source" , when if you look at this you can see the qualifications of the person who wrote the article at about.com. Should I still include it? or get another one?
In addition, why is "posturing as a moderate" POV? It is just explaining that Hayes was advocating moderate reforms.
Thanks for your help! --Schwindtd (talk) 00:57, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Replied to all at the GA review page. Cheers, Nikkimaria (talk) 04:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
I was wondering how you would soften the tone of this sentence: "Hayes honestly believed in a kind of paternalistic code." Thanks!--Schwindtd (talk) 19:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- ...I'm not exactly sure what that sentence means. Definitely replace "honestly" with "firmly", or better yet remove the word altogether. Take out "kind of", possibly to be replaced with "type of", but again I'm not clear on your intended meaning. As for "paternalistic code"...honestly, I'd say you'd be better off removing this phrase entirely. Nikkimaria (talk) 21:20, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Do you know anyone who would be interested in copy-editing Rutherford B. Hayes? I was thinking about peer review, but the peer review page mentions nominating articles that are close to FA status. Thanks!--Schwindtd (talk) 21:52, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well, you can use peer review to help you attain GA status. If you're just after copy-editing, though, try WP:GOCE. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:18, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- I put a copyedit tag on the page, but Rutherford B. Hayes does not show up on WP:GOCE for articles listed in August 2010. --Schwindtd (talk) 00:25, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- Nevermind. It's listed under H not R. Woops. Sorry! --Schwindtd (talk) 00:27, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

First Question for new admin
[edit]First Question for new admin...</vr>
I have seen this editor User:Rjensen for a long time..and have always questioned there neutrality and Undue weight that they add to articles when he summarizes what authors are saying. I have gotten into conflict with him in the past about Fringe theories,,that is randomly adding authors pov and theories. Is it normal to add or replace text with what one historian thinks - What do you think here am i way off?? I think its all done in good faith but just not done right?...18:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

- Okay. Some of what they're doing is fine, or at least defensible - it's a good idea to mention minority opinions. Without evidence to the contrary, I would say they're acting in good faith. However, I would encourage them to a) source stuff whenever possible instead of removing it, especially when the unsourced stuff is easily referenced, and b) be very careful to correctly interpret the "influential-ness" of any individual author. For example, how many historians accept McKay's thesis in regards to Canadian history? I wouldn't block him based on what you've shown me, but I definitely understand your frustration. [edit]Thanks for the review. I went into WP:GAN looking to review a few nominations above Calcraft but when I couldn't find his article I thought I must have been mistaken in thinking that I'd listed it!
