Re: Sorry
No problem. No harm done. :) G.He 01:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
I added links to websites that are informational in regards to the subject matter I was editing. Hope that's okay. It was not for advertising purposes but for information that I felt would be useful to the community that is interested in the subjects I edited. Hello. Just dropping by to let you know that the IP 70.238.118.198 is doing the same thing 75.0.104.180 and 71.156.72.52 did. I'd deal with it now but I just got back from a 9 hour plane ride and am a little delusional (and I need a nap). Just letting you know in case you want to deal with it before I wake up. Oh, and while i'm here:

Mistake warning
You mistakingly gave me a warning on my talk page [1]. I reverted a vandal in my edit. Don't see why that's wrong. See [2]. I deleted hundreds of File:Jimmy Wales. jpg, which aren't actually images. And that's all I did. Please remove this warning when you realize you made a mistake. Maybe you meant to warn 63.23.90.249 who put all those non-existent images in the article. Thanks. -67.175.191.238 22:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism
I received a Wikipedia message accusing me of vandalism re: Gaarfield High School in Seattle. This is absurd! I've not done so, nor do I know how to do so. I've never looked up this subject. Most of my lookups are for info only and usually pertain to gardening and my hometown in Wisconsin. I have been threatened with being blocked from editing information on Wikipedia and, though I have NEVER edited an article, I feel this threat is unwarranted and slanders me. cobi@aol.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.188.116.70 (talk • contribs) 17:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry if that caused you trouble or alarm. The problem I had with it was mainly that it was unsourced and apparently a statement of opinion. The verbiage is also a bit strong/objectionable. If you can provide some academic sources to back up your claims, it would really help with my skepticism on this topic. Thanks -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 04:00, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Warning about Ryulong
This person is vandalsing the Jeremy Clarkson page with INCESTUAL remarks... sex with cousins etc... this is vandalism.. he is reverting it back to the vandalisim and will not stip sending me messages... can you send him a messgae to stop pestering me instead turning the tables... thanks very much. --86.29.117.118 03:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

- What? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 04:01, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I am not vandalizing the article. This user was Wikistalking another user and had his original account blocked because he reverted a good portion of another user's edits based off of one quote posted at Jeremy Clarkson in which it states that Jeremy Clarkson said "When you buy an American car, you have to have sex with your cousin" which I do not doubt that this British commentator has said. Ryūlóng 04:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

- Danke, Omicronpersei8. Frankly, I think this guy made this quote on a television show, and I can't find a transcript to prove either person wrong. However, the quote is in the right place. Ryūlóng 04:11, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

You know... maybe it's me... you are either the 4th or 5th person to turn this on me. The guy put "when you buy an American car, you must afterwards have sex with your cousin, because that's what [Americans] do." I took it off... the guy came back with a sockpuppet (its all on the Jeremy Clarkson talk page...) then I got blocked for a week for reverting the guys vandalism and the incest remark was put back.,.. its not some thing I dont agree with.. its vandalism.. ? you cant say something like that with no source?? I could put that on ANY page with no source...!! It's clear cut vandalism... the first half of the sentence is an actual quote.. but he's spiced it up with some incest.. and I've now been blocked once nearly twice by you for taking it off... and 'Ryulong' thinks im talking about something else and is sending me smug emails so i told him to get lost and he wouldnt so i told him to F.O... thats life...
I said 55 messages because everytime I do anything now I get a YELLOW messgae over and over.
So what about this incest... you are the last guy to put it on there now... how do you feel?
Ryulong, you are so desperate to have the article say that Americans have sex with their cousins why dont YOU provide the source right here and now... I've looked on GOOGLE... you got something else up your sleeve?
-- 86.29.117.118 04:08, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- All I know is that you have been obsessed with deleting that segment out of the article without proof that it isn't authentic, and have also been firing off personal attacks at people. "ze good fight"... I'll tell you what. I'll bet that it's the other way around.. I'll bet that if you claim that someone said something, YOU have to back it up, not that the whole universe has to prove that they didn't say something... how does one prove that another person DIDN't say something anyway?? - Wow... You want to be blocked, again, don't you? Just because I said one word in German, and because I'm the one who reverted your blanking of one user's contributions, makes us the bad guys? The quote, whether truthful or not, is in the right section, and I frankly have more faith in the other editor than you, right about now. You will be blocked for personal attacks now, YourCousin. Something Awful
The Thorpe thing was a mistake, but I fail to see how that bit on Malak is unencylcopedic. Every article he's written has been in the style of a stereotypical gaming nerd. It's not POV or analysis or anything like that. That, very simply, is his character on Something Awful. Stilgar135 05:50, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I can agree with that. I just thought it was rather POV looking, and the sentence fragment also included in the edit made me think it was a "bad" edit. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:52, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I had been meaning to cite the claim about Thorpe's message board post and actually wrote half the thing before realizing that someone had taken it out. Anyway, I got bored and moved to greener pastures. Thanks for understanding. Stilgar135 05:56, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Stop vandalizing the changes I made to the Zionist page. You need to do review your history. The Torah says Abraham came from Ur of Chaldea. Genesis 11:31. This is now known as modern day Iraq. His Grandson, Jacob, had come from Syria. Deut. 26:5. They both proclaimed, kind of like the Aryan Nations does today, that they are Yahweh's chosen people and that G-d, as some sort of mega real estate broker, gave them some land on the one small condition that they slaughter every living thing that occupied the territory in order to receive this divine "gift." This history is straight out of the Torah and is not subject to serious dispute even amongst Jews
As the UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 so succinctly stated, "Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination." This resolution stood for many years based upon evidence of early Zionist terrorist campaigns, such as the Sabra and Shatila massacre, among many others, used by Zionist Jews to rid the land that they covet so badly of its native population.
Thus, my alteration to the Zionism page to the effect that Zionism advocates the slaughter of indigenous Arab peoples in the region of Palestine is indeed factually and historically correct. I bet you must be either Jewish or a conservative Christian. Stop pawning off your religious indoctrination as historical fact.
I've reinstated the changes. Leave them alone until you educate yourself on the topic at which point we might perhaps discuss the matter. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.139.151.232 (talk • contribs) 06:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Surrey Girls
;-) Saw your concern tag and then its removal...yeah, it's notable; it's part of local culture in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and, well, pretty unique. It'll take a while before the definition that's there approaches the mean; Surrey's a special place, and Surrey girls aren't just slutty; it's a whole mentality/mode/lifestyle/fashion sense. Ever seen Trailer Park Boys? Something along those lines, only "uniquely Surrey" in a way that's one day going to produce some books/films and who knows what (I don't mean by me); it's "our Brooklyn" or "our Bronx"; a certain kind of personality; and this endless slew of harsh jokes which, though borrowed/transferred into other milieux, could only have been coined about Surrey girls....Skookum1 08:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Fidel Castro changes
In response to your accusation of vandalism on my part to the "Fidel Castro" article, I believe you are sorely mistaken and should do a better job of ensuring that the real vandals are reprimanded. The picture currently on the article at the top can also be found under the "Personal" section of the page. I used this photo to replace another photo which was on the sidebar, one depicting a circumcised and an uncircumcised penis. Therefore, I believe that not only did I not vandalize anything, I fixed vandalism that someone else had contributed. Do not accuse me of vandalism when I am helping the website. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.169.136.7 (talk • contribs) 17:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Omicronpersei8, as a result of the discussion to merge "pop punk revival" into "pop punk" (see: Talk:Pop punk (revival)) we are no longer adovacting the use of "pop punk revival" 17 users voiced their opinion with 15 for the merger. The term "pop punk revival" seems to be a neologism specific to wikipedia. There was little references to support the use of the term by critics and artists. recent addition to elephants
Why is my comment inappropriate for the Pop Culture column of the elephant page? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Deepthoughts13 (talk • contribs) 05:08, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- There has actually been an ongoing debate on the talk page, where it was decided (for the most part) that additions such as this do not relate to elephants and thus would not be appropriate for the elephant article. If you go into edit mode for the whole article, there's a message at the top about it. I know it's easy to miss if you click on a section edit link. Sorry, I don't know how to make it more of an obvious warning. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Omicronpersei8. You reverted my vandalism of the VDN page. I think that is OK, but what I was trying to do was point out the fact that the page is a big ad. I have highlighted the phrases that support that claim in the VDN section. I am not sure how I am supposed to report such a page (though I suppose that vandalism is probably not the way) :-). Anyway if you have a suggestion I am all ears. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.17.26.4 (talk • contribs) 06:48, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have to say, out of all the vandalism I've seen here, yours is some of the most benign. I didn't really consider it vandalism when I saw it -- more like "enhancements gone wrong".
Anyway, I agree that this article has a terrible marketing slant. In lieu of simply deleting the bulk of the content, how about we start with putting {{advert}} at the top for now? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:54, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, sounds good. I didn't know how to do that. Now I do! -- wwheeler 10:13, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Might want to take another look at my revert there; I'd have reverted with popups, but it didn't seem to be blatant vandalism. I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to VS my revert, though; I was reverting a small but significant change in the PoV of the article. --Emufarmers(T/C) 12:47, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I thought the version I reverted to looked more NPOV. No? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 12:49, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's a highly political issue, so it's hard to say; what you reverted to was a significant change in the message of that paragraph: It significantly moves the PoV from the Israeli side to the Palestinian side. It doesn't appear to have been called for by the article's talk page, so it seems like PoV pushing to me. "[F]ighting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories" has a distinctly different tone than "its suicide bombings." At this point I won't say which is "right"; just that there may be PoV pushing going on here. --Emufarmers(T/C) 13:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Your viewpoint is certainly in the right, so I won't fight you on the issue; what I was concerned about (and I honestly didn't spend a lot of time deliberating over it) was the change of "attacking ... civilians" to "attacks directed against Israeli civilians". I also felt "resistance" sounded less loaded than "violence", but I now think I may have that backwards. I agree with your point about the first modification.
Isn't it a pain to think that these sections will probably in time be edited right back into POV Land, no matter what we do at the present moment? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 13:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

- I noticed the part about civilians too, and it made me pause for a moment; but to my knowledge, Hamas does deliberately target civilians, moreso than military targets (because civilians are easier to target), but that may just be my background talking. Truce
My words were not meant to be annoying. There is an error in his user page. You shouldn't just jump to conclusions because you have some sort of bizarre internet power.
Read below and please ensure you understand it prior to commenting further.
In working on Wikipedia, you may occasionally get into a dispute with another person. That person may seem like a troll or a hothead to you, but it's usually best to assume that you are dealing with a reasonable person who is simply confused on a particular issue or has a POV different from your own. No matter what the problem is, flaming is not going to solve it. Try to reach a truce. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.115.28.78 (talk • contribs) 21:39, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- There's a big difference between a "dispute" and trolling a person over and over with words like "Why does your user page still display inaccurate information, Ghandi?" I know I must come off as an idiot, but I know what you're doing, and you know what you're doing. Disputes don't occur over a number on a person's user page being wrong. That's just you trying to harass somebody. Keep it up, and there most definitely will be administrator intervention. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:45, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Ed has been married three times; his marriages appear to occur in his stages of life. Ed divorced his first wife to marry a trophy wife that was about the age of his son Jay. (I wonder if Jay called this babe mom?) When this babe got too old for him, he dumped her for another trophy wife (Christine) that was about the age of his grandson. One wonders what will happen if Ed lives long enough to have great-grandchildren. The thought disgusts me. |

Physics Article WIP proposal
Hello, as an editor who has previously added to the Physics article and taken part in discussions on its talk page I thought a current proposal may be of interest to you. Over the past few months the article has suffered from a lack of focus and direction. Unfortunately the article is now judged by a number of editors to be in a relatively poor state. There is currently a proposal to start a full consensus based review of the article. That review and consensus process has been proposed here, your thoughts on the proposal and participation in the WIP review of the article would be much appreciated. It disappoints me that an article on one of the fundamental sciences here at wikipedia is in such a relatively poor state, and I hope you can have a browse by the page to offer your views and hopefully participate. Al Gore
Any reason you are reverting an image on Al Gore that has been accepted for quite a while with no argument, and any reason you give no reason for your edit? The page you showed me may help for reference, but today I have been creating several infoboxes for former department secretaries, and noticed Rumsfeld's should conform better to the standard for such people. I think the problem was just that I typed in "image" twice accidentally in the editing, at least the second time. The first time I may have used an image incompatible with the format, if there is such a thing. Incidentally, is there a rule of thumb for avoiding unnecessary blank space (because of image placement) on articles? I am trying to fix this on Donald Evan's article now, after I added an infobox.Minutiaman 21:55, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I fixed that too. I think it is a matter of editing in the image name at the earliest possible place. Minutiaman 21:57, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah; I'm not aware of any such rule of thumb. You might want to refer to the style guide, as I'm still relatively new and do more counter-vandalism than content edits. I guess in a lot of cases it all comes down to taste and aesthetics and all that. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Why slow down? I looked at the guidelines for notability here, a list of stubs here, and put 2 and 2 together. Many of these articles are unencyclopedic, and they should be deleted. How are they asserting notability "X is considered one of the hottest Y's?" That's not notable. I'm not deleting ones that meet the criteria on the notability page (unless I make a mistake, which is certainly possible.) -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 04:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

YO
lets face it "Omicronpersei8", wikipedia is looked at as one of the first websites to go onto for up to date info in cases of terrorist attacks, natural and man made disasters and any other crap when something bad happends.
i think it would be very prudent if we set up some kind of agreemebt/policy of what wikipedia should do to help (primarily provide information). i think it would be very beneficial if we encourage editors to write down phone numbers which can be useful to family members and so on, for example. i know that this happens to a large extent anyway but we need to have a discussion on this on how we can organize our efforts to produce best results, that is how we can organize the "someone blew up a part of a city/a big wave kills millions" articles to reflect the needs of the people on the ground.
i know that you are against this because you think that wikipedia is just a encyclopida but lets face it because of it up to date nature it is not just a dead set of facts and info.
any ideas on how we can improve the wikipedia policies?--Greg.loutsenko 12:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism of Ben Best article
There is a pattern emerging here. CRANdieter/Freezer Man (identities created for the primary purpose of hacking the Ben Best page or links to it) makes bad faith edits. Administrators notice that the article is stupid looking and unencyclopedic, and sometimes correct it. Freezer Man improves his behavior the day the Admin visits, appearing to be reasonable, almost reaching consensus. Shortly thereafter Freezer Man reverts Admin edits, and makes more bad faith edits containing deliberately misleading information to make the article a joke on Ben Best rather than an encyclopdedia article. As a contributor and maintainer of articles pertaining to cryonics and related subjects, I will make no more compromises with this individual, who is deliberately hostile to the interests of a serious encyclopedia, and basically doing as much damage as he thinks he can get away with. A version of this article without the snide remarks and references should be locked. I don't know if you have the power or inclination to do so, but thanks for your attention anyway. - Many thanks to you too, DS. The reasons for my not wanting to be an admin currently center around the fact that I'm intolerant, lazy, error-prone, and inexperienced. I also don't think I could stand the anxiety and discouragement of an RFA, which would certainly air out all of my bad traits and editing mistakes. I really appreciate you guys' kind regards, but I'm not ready to be an admin and probably never will be. Topic: Hal Anderson
Good day!
I think maybe something which was marked as vandalism shouldn't have been:
Although I don't necessarily agree with the original inflammatory nature of the original description of Hal Anderson, I do share the same opinion. Hal Anderson, has clearly contributed little to nothing to the betterment of Canada. The fact that he was voted 34th "greatest Canadian" is an embarrassment.
Leading the people to believe that an individual who spends a good portion of his time sitting on the radio, eating, and organizing whip cream wrestling events at local pubs, is one of Canada’s most cherished individuals is an insult to all Canadians.
Therefore, some variant of the following paragraph (which was previously removed) should be restored:
"The fact that a radio jockey who has contributed little or nothing to the betterment of Canada as a whole can be voted as "greater" than many historical figures, is a prime example of some of the failures of direct democracy. It shows how easily it can be twisted to suit the needs of an organized group, with or without regard for the purpose of the vote itself."
Kind regards! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.161.171.154 (talk • contribs) 03:15, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you can find a neutral, factual way to phrase that, by all means, put it in the article. As it stands, that paragraph is completely a statement of opinion. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:18, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

A rebuttal
I think the glorification of a local media celebrity is an excellent thing in this day and age. It shows we have gone beyond the worship of mere gods, statesmen, and false institutional icons like marriage, nations, and professional sports: this is the popular voice, raised in response to the existence of a real, human, close, and approchable hero. I mean, sure, he's a radio host for a small station in a secondary market in the geographical center of the continent, almost exactly twelve hundred kilometers away from any *real* social, economical, or academic center -- but what else would one expect to find in such a petri dish of human experience? Nothing but the concentrated will of the populace, that's what. Let's make our heroes more human, people! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.79.87.235 (talk • contribs) 03:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Assuming you are the same person who posted to Hal Anderson, I am pleased to see you have thought out your position, but this is an encyclopedia, not a place for commentary. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:36, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

hey I wanted to let you know that I am new but I was trying to contribute to the Colbert Reports' section on The Word. I have compiled a list of all the words in order. - Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I believe you in that it's not vandalism, but I'm still not sure if it's really appropriate, because I think it might be in violation of the policy that reads, "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information".
Yeah maybe. That sort of depends on your definition of indiscriminate. Should only the words that have a major impact be recorded (ie wikiality/truthiness). I dont think its that indiscriminate but its all cool. Just sleep on it will ya. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Billinboston (talk • contribs) 20:51, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

page regarding nigger
Actually, it was a fact and not my own personal analysis. Most people would consider it a fact that ignorant racist people use the word nigger. Someone who wouldn't agree is probably a racist. I believe it should stay and I also don't feel I was doing anything wrong whatsoever Tonetare 01:54, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree, because despite the pervasiveness of human bias, most people know the difference between fact and opinion. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 01:56, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Tonetare complained to me about the article and I suggested he edit it. While his edit may leave something to be desired in its exact phraseology, I feel it moves towards including an element that is currently lacking from the anodyne first sentence, as it now stands:
- "Nigger is a term used to refer to dark-skinned peoples
The problem with this as an initial definition is particularly in the present tense, which gives no indication that it is a pejorative term, now regarded with horror by many people because of its associations. You have stated that most people know the difference between a fact and an opinion. HIs edit changed the opening to:
- Nigger is a term used by ignorant racist people used unacceptably to show their hate against dark-skinned peoples
This seems to me to be a fact, stated rather baldly, but nevertheless encapsulating something that needs to be there from the outset in the examination of this word. It could do with refining, but, at least in the UK, given the choice of the two versions, I think most people would feel more comfortable with Tonetare's.
Which of the key points in his edit do you think not factual?:
- 1) ignorant
- 2) racist
- 3) used unacceptably
- 4) show their hate
No. 4 is a generalisation that does not always apply, as the word can be used simply out of ignorance rather than specific malice.
Regardless of that, I have to speak on his behalf to say that it was a good faith edit, which did not merit a vandal warning, nor was it correctly reverted as such, without an explanation, so I would ask you to remove that warning from his talk page.
Tyrenius 02:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's a mild, mostly unassuming warning for people who "add commentary or [their] own personal analysis" to articles, which is what Tonetare did. Surely he or she is not the first person to hold these opinions or think of placing them in an article; there's a reason it's not there already. The first two words are weasel words at best, the third is (although I agree with its assertion) a statement of opinion, and the fourth is a trite and not always true statement. For the time being, I have compromised and allowed "very offensive" to slip in under the radar. I am simply trying to keep things neutral, not promote my opinion, although Tonetare seems to regard my edits differently. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
not at all. thank you for leaving offensive term in there. My original phraseology was wrong as you stated Tonetare 02:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I thought you were an administrator. Well in that case, you little... :P no j/k. All is good. As I said, you were absolutely right when you said my phraseology was wrong as I looked in the dictionary. Just because you use the term you can call someone ignorant. It's ignorant TOO use it but whatever. offensive is good. Not angry at you. Thanx Tonetare 02:43, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see Tonetare has been able to see your intervention in a constructive way, and I must congratulate you on your efficiency. I'm sure you're doing a lot of good work. I found a reference which I've added and which actually used the exact phrase he settled on. I'd accept 1) as weasel, though not 2) as, for a start, it's now a term used in UK law and can lead to prosecution. 3) is intrinsic to the fact that it's "very offensive". However, I'm not interested in pursuing that further, though I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find sources for those assertions.
- However, I must take issue with the warning. The "test" series are stages of vandalism warning, starting with no. 1 intended for minor stuff or new editors who are literally testing. They are definitely not intended for good faith edits, even if those edits are a bit off-beam. Clearly Tonetare was editing in good faith, trying to correct what he saw as a deficiency in the article, and, now that he has modified his entry, hopefully that goal has been achieved. I understand that on first sight you saw his edit differently, but I wonder if, now the circumstances are apparent, you would be prepared to withdraw it. I feel it is even more unfair, as the only reason he venture to make the edit was after my encouragement. Tyrenius 03:20, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words. I understand that you are trying to show me that his edits were essentially good-natured and legitimate, but they still have an opinionated slant to them. They're unnecessary and unencyclopedic, and I believe people reading that page would be more interested in a neutral, explanatory passage than in one decrying the usage of the word. As you said on Tonetare's talk page, it would probably be reverted somewhere down the road anyway.
- As for his warning, it's not a {{test}} template, it's a {{npov}} template. It doesn't imply that I thought he was editing in bad faith, only that I was requesting him to rethink his actions. Really, it's not like I threatened to get him blocked or anything. I think it's best for me to just say that if he were to remove the warning from his talk page right now, I probably wouldn't bother to do anything about it. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
You might like to check out material I archived for him to give him a clean slate! My bad, as they say, re. exact template — of course it does end in the same way. As I do feel responsible for encouraging him, I shall do the job, with your tacit, or at least Nelsonian, permission (I trust). :) Tyrenius 04:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Noticing for the first time that you're an administrator and could have crushed me like a bug at any moment during this ordeal -- why, yes, I think I will "grant you the permission". Now I feel pretty silly for "explaining" the difference between templates to someone who certainly already knew. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:49, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Lol. I'm glad to be in the clear over permission anyway! I had no wish to usurp your work, and you probably know these templates in more detail than me if you're doing vandal patrol, but they are just variants of each other, and I would make the point they are not meant for the editor who is making a good faith edit with that intent (even if it's a bad edit, it still counts as an edit and not vandalism). The templates should be kept for people that are patently not attempting to make a good faith edit, but are either experimenting or doing a deliberate act of vandalism. Admin rollback should likewise only be used for the latter two conditions. Sometimes I'm not sure about an edit, so the thing to do is AGF and manual revert with an edit summary of "rv", which is neutral. There's plenty of protocol to say that's how it should be done. If you want someone to rethink an edit because you disagree with it (which was quite correct in the case under discussion) then this is normal editing and should follow normal editing procedures by changing it and either explaining in the edit summary or on the talk page. Anyway, keep up with the good work, and if you need any backup, you know where I am. Tyrenius 13:41, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

You and Canadian-Bacon seemed to have been slightly confused in wether or not to revert 203.10.59.63 on Universe. I can almost assuredly tell you that it is spam. See Category:Wikipedia:Sock_puppets_of_Universe_Daily for many of the spam URLs that User:Universe Daily's socks and proxies like to use. Visit a few. Take a look at the link above. I hope it will work. John R G 05:58, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me. The problem I have here is the same problem I had with the other category: you've put it on an article page, but it's meant to be on user pages. Would it be alright if I removed it from the Constitution Party (United States) article? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
I fixed the "GOP" template up to mirror the Democratic userbox, by the way:
GOP | This user supports the U.S. Republican Party. |
Hope that's alright. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:10, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
I was wondering why you removed the information about the Constitution Party. There was nothing about people listed so I made one up. John R G 06:23, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- If the category has "Wikipedians" in it, then it's only meant to be used on user pages. On the Republican Party article, for example, there's already a template for articles related to the Republican party. The Constitution Party category you added is for users, though, so it should only go on user pages. Does that clear that up any? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:25, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
How do you like the template? John R G 06:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me, except you included the code for it on that page and not a transclusion to a template. You made that yourself and didn't get it from a preexisting template page, right? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ignore that part about transclusion -- doing that seems to cause problems with recursive inclusion or something. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 08:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Can you merge the three Republican categorys into one. That would help. If anything I am typing alot also. John R G 06:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I figure you wont do any harm so do what you need to do. I hope that I was able to help. If you want to change the colors of the template go ahead I had to pick something. Thanks for you time and help. John R G 06:39, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
If you look at my main page you will see the CONS will link to the site but I still have to make the category. John R G 06:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Let me help you by making the template. I will place it in your user space (see: the German userbox solution) and then I will post the link to it to you. Then you can just include a link to it on your user page (something like {{User:John R G/User Constitution Party}}). Okay? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:54, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
That is fine you can even put it on your site. John R G 06:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Seems more appropriate for it to be on yours (since you're the one who made it)! I'll go ahead and put it in your userspace, if you don't have any strong objections, and you can move it over to mine if you don't like that. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:59, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
That is fine one last thing can you get the templates for the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party on User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes/Political Parties. That might not be easy but it would be great. If you want to delete any of the stuff I made for the parties go ahead. See you tommorrow. John R G 07:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually it should be pretty easy. Have a good night (assuming it's night where you are). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm actually not going to put it on that page yet, since the only national parties listed there are Republicans and Democrats. I'm sure the Constitutional Party is notable and important and all that, but since no others are listed there (in my very scant research), I'm going to leave it as is for now. I did put an appropriate userbox category on the userbox I put in your userspace. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:38, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

You should really consider removing that notice. 12 mess ups isn't a lot considering the masses of RC patrol you do, and it makes you look like a poorer patroller than you actually are (and just encourages people to complain). -- Steel 16:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I can't really argue with that, it's a very respectable opinion/attitude/thing. Lance Bass
Are you retarded? Why the f**k did you revert my changes to the Lance Bass page? I changed "a American" to "an American" and added a comma where it was a grammatical necessity.
Find a new hobby other than ruining Wikipedia with your ignorance. And try reading a book on how to use English grammar correctly, you borderline-illiterate menace. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:12, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Answer my question
Why did you revert back to an older version of Lance Bass after I edited it? What possessed you to do that? My changes were valid, and you eliminated them! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:12, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- That was an error on my part -- since the link was "[[United States|American]]", I mistakenly thought the text read as "a United States..." However, it obviously read as "a American" and your edit was right. I missed this, because I only saw the code and had a brainfart at that moment. I probably also jumped to conclusions because there recently have been people editing that very part of the page into incorrect grammar.
- Now, here's my question: who gets this riled up over one letter? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:23, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Ironic that you're accusing me of overreacting when you seem to have crowned yourself "Miss Grammar" here on Wikipedia, and yet you actively troll recent changes to incorporate errors that others have been astute enough to catch and to fix. Perhaps you need to re-assess your skills and your holier-than-thou attitude before spending your time (despite your claims to be busy "in real life") making Wikipedia worse than it was before you got online. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:29, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, you're the one engaging in trolling. Perhaps you should look into anger management? Regards -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:30, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, no, I was engaging in Wikipedia editing -- quite successfully and accurately, I might add. You, however, went out of your way to put a stop to that. And thanks for the medical advice. From what medical school did you receive your degree? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:32, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Are personal attacks successful and accurate editing? And my medical degree is from the University of WP:CIVIL. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:34, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd have had no reason to make a personal "attack" had you not gone out of your way to undo my contribution. I guess you were done playing around on the masturbation and vagina entries and decided it was time for some Lance Bass destruction. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:35, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I made a simple mistake in the course of vandalism reverting. I didn't even send you a warning or anything, so why are you going completely nuts over my reverting your one letter change? Don't you think you're acting pretty irrational? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:36, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
This was simply the culmination of weeks of seeing accurate, thoughtful work being undone by self-appointed Wikipedia queens who've decided, for no justifiable reason, that they know how things ought to be around here. This is a shame, since it surely drives away those such as myself who are careful to make only grammatically and factually correct edits to articles. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:41, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it was very misdirected, as I am not responsible for all of your Wikipedia ills, and as I said, it was a mistake, not a case of me butchering all the grammar on that article. As for us "Wikipedia queens", while we may not know everything regarding the best way to run Wikipedia, we do understand the concept of civility. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:44, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- And any more dumb jokes involving misspellings like that and I'll report you for incivility. Either you neglected to read the explanation for my mistake or else you just don't care and want to fling insults. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:44, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- (Clarification: I might have been wrong here about there being a "dumb joke", but the user removed a letter from my name in the course of an edit that I originally thought consisted only of this change, so I took it as a snipe about not being able to spell my username correctly. This may have not been the case, although it would have been absolutely hilarious.) -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow, a threat. Congrats. I'm so proud of you. But I have to ask: what "dumb joke involving misspellings" are you talking about? If you're referring to Lance Bass, that wasn't a joke; someone actually edited the article to say something along those lines. That's the kind of vandalism for which you ought to be trolling. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- You aren't wrong much, are you? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:49, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I try not to be when I put forth things as fact, as is the case with my work on Wikipedia. And if I ever did make an error, I'd apologize and thank the person who pointed it out to me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I saw the error right after I made it, but it appeared someone else had already fixed it or else I became preoccupied with other counter-vandalism. It was my fault, certainly, and I admitted it, but if you wanted a "thanks", the way to go about getting it wasn't coming in here and initiating conversation with "are you retarded?" Now I'm sitting here arguing with you pointlessly, and you're sitting there steaming over a letter and a comma. So now where are we? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:55, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm not "steaming" over anything. I am actually having fun. Let's not exaggerate the gravity of this situation. We both seem like intelligent, reasonable people with at least one common interest. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 22:01, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you don't mind my saying, it really doesn't seem like you consider me anywhere near intelligent, and I'm not yet prepared to consider you "reasonable". I am a moron, sure, but that doesn't mean you have to rub it in my face. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:03, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm also willing to admit that I am in fact "retarded" for letting this argument go on this long, and I will stay out of your way if you will just please, please try to exercise more civility on this site. There's absolutely no need to kick my Internet ass when I have acknowledged that I'm wrong and am willing to fix the error I made. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:07, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Gee, can I report you for using the word "ass" on a discussion page? It offended me; I found it quite "uncivil." You didn't fix the error you made; I fixed your error, and that was only because I happened upon it. If you consider yourself a "moron," you probably shouldn't be editing Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 22:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
And I just noticed this paragraph that I accidentally reverted off of this page:Who said I thought it was vandalism? Can't I try to correct what I (mistakenly) think are grammar issues? Again, all I did was read the front of the wikilink instead of the end of it. That was the genesis of my error. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Anyway, how can someone mistake changing "a" to "an" for vandalism? Did you think I had actually written "Lance Bass wants to suck cock and be defecated on in space" (like one of the previous editors) instead of adding the letter "n" onto the word "a"? You sound a little too trigger-happy to be correcting vandalism.
I wrote the sentence you deleted after you wrote, "I made a simple mistake in the course of vandalism reverting." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.33.49.251 (talk • contribs) 22:13, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello-
This is Steve Niles. You have a page dedicated to me and my work, but recently a disgruntled person named Matt Busch has taken it upon himself to add a factually incorrect account of a personal issue in my life. I would like it removed. Is that possible? Matt Busch himself is posting this and it is not relevant to my career and like I said is factually incorrect and only being posted because Busch lost his girlfriend.
Thank you,

Not satisfactory
It appears that you are responsbile for a bot that reverted my edit on John Howard. This is highly unsatisfactory and completely breaks Wikipedia as it is intended to function. Please turn off the bot or fix it to ensure that it only reverts known malicious editors. Please advise a.s.a.p. when you have restored my ability to edit this article.
Insofar as the bot may be a useful tool, there is insufficient documentation as to what authority the bot operates under and how to counter its unwanted actions. If you are going to operate this bot - it is VERY UNSATISFACTORY to also have a notice on your home page advising that you may not respond to messages. If you wish to operate the bot you should be available to account for the actions of the bot. --Wm 03:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- That was not a bot. That was me reverting a bad grammar edit you made. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was in the process of correcting it myself. The link to VS is very confusing as is your notice about not being available. If you are not available, how is it that you are reverting edits? There is no need to jump on an edit milliseconds after completion. Reverting is lazy. You can see the clumsy writing I am trying to correct - instead of reverting, try to improve the artcile. --Wm 03:31, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sir/ma'am, all of my revert edit summaries have a link to WP:SNIPE in them. Please visit that page and read the first thing in bold at the top of that page.
- I'm responding, am I not? {{busy}} isn't "{{not here, not responding}}".
- I'm sorry you feel I'm lazy. If I corrected it, then what's the complaint here?
- How is fixing grammar mistakes not improving the article?
-- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:36, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Have a look at the sentence that you reverted to. I believe that its meaning is inaccurate. What is worse bad grammer or a misleading meaning? Anway I accept that I initially misunderstood the situation but I have also made a few comments which I believe may be worth considering. Happy editing. --Wm 03:45, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough -- I won't revert you again while you're in the middle of an edit. Happy editing to you as well. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:47, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I run a Debian based distro myself so may consider installing VS over the weekend. --Wm 03:53, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

- Sure thing. The only advice I can think of right now is that you can receive complaints over virtually anything in the "line of duty" (not that they're always undeserved, at least in my case). It takes a lot of patience sometimes; I still have quite a ways to go as far as dealing with criticism appropriately, it would seem. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:23, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I will chill out. Now can you tell these other admins to stop reverting my edits and calling me a vandal? I thought the idea of this place is that you can edit the article to make it better? So why is that article, filled with speculation, 'some sources say' with citations to tabloids and etcetera not worthy of being edited? I read a lot of articles on here, and the steven seagal one is not up to snuff. I don't even care about steven seagal, but i do care about wikipedia having pages like this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.26.94.95 (talk • contribs) 05:10, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- From what I can tell, the controversy is over your deletion of sections. The best way to go about fixing the article would be to try to edit the existing sections into sanity, or at least include edit comments with your deletions. Because page blankings are a common form of vandalism from IPs, it's always hard to tell if a large deletion is being made in good faith or with the intent of vandalism. Does that help any? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:14, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted an edit to Scott Keith that put back in that he died. This is a hoax. I think an anon editor who has previously vandalized the page put it in due to the WP:BLP policy and his death would supposedly make the policy moot. The Many-Headed Hydra of Freezer Man's sock puppets
Insofar as you were briefly involved in a "revert war" with Freezer Man on the Ben Best page on August 11 I thought that you might find this reference to be of interest: Talk:Ben_Best#The_Many-Headed_Hydra_of_Freezer_Man.27s_sock_puppets. I have been trying since June to ignore this person and his many sock puppets, but without avail. You seem to have some expertise with vandals, and any help you can contribute would be appreciated. After trying to be co-operative and accommodating for so long without success I have decided that some form of counter-attack is the only thing that might work. I know very little about fighting vandals and it seems that I may be learning in the most difficult of ways. If this is of no interest to you I thank you again for your reverts on August 11th. --Ben Best 07:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

- First, you should have put this message on my talk page, not Omicronpersei8's. Second by definition a rock cannot be a fountain pen so your edit was factually incorrect. Third, if you did have evidence then you need to provide it not just claim you have it. Fianlly, as Omicronpersei8 said, do you think we're fools. Stop vandalizing Wikipedia or we'll stop you via a block. Gwernol 22:04, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
User:Zharta
Hi Aeropagitica, I'd like to talk with you about the block on this user. I believe its possible that I may be able to talk some sense into this one, so I'd like to consider lifting your block on him/her. The condition would be that if the user returns to adding nonsense to articles, I will reinstate the block without warning and with a longer duration (probably 1 week). Are you comfortable with this? Thanks, Gwernol 23:15, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Gwernol, thanks for backing me up on my talk page regarding this user. While I still feel that this person was knowingly vandalizing, I hope you don't feel I was too hasty in my decision to report him or her to AIV. I certainly hold myself responsible if the block is to be deemed inappropriate. That said, I will go along in complete agreement if this user is unblocked, and will continue to monitor him or her myself, if that's alright, while exercising neutrality and not rushing to any more conclusions. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:19, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Please understand that my request here is absolutely not a critisism of either of you. The block (and the request for it) were totally appropriate. The only reason I'm making this suggestion is that I see some glimmer of hope that we can make a productive editor out of Zharta. I could well be wrong about this, in which case it will only reflect poorly on me, not on either of you. Hopefully the worst case is we have to revert a few more nonsense edits, and the best case is we gain a valuable contributor. Best, Gwernol 23:39, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I know you must have a million things to do on Wikipedia already, but I really need to talk to you about User:72.225.51.162. I have the "Africa" article watchlisted, and today when I went on I saw that you reverted some edits by this user -- really racist stuff, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. When I went to this user's talkpage, I saw that you and some other people had given him a final warning: If you vandalize one more time, then you WILL be banned from editing Wikipedia. Well, it appears that the time has come for that. This user doesn't appear to have any legitimate edits, indicating that he is the only one using this IP address, and that the community would not lose anything by blocking him. I would have done it myself, only I'm not an administrator. (I would recommend banning him for one month or possibly one year, but that's just me. Those edits were really offensive.)
Just helping to improve the community. :) Ellie041505 13:56, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Unwarranted Removal of External Links
I have twice added a legitimate, non-commerical web site related to the content of a page (www.dailynewshaikus.com on the haiku and senryu pages) only to have you revert and remove it. Can you explain why? Are the posts or links in violation of some guidelines? I would like to report this user for vandalism in addition to another vandalism you've already warned him about back in July. I was checking on Paducah, Kentucky article (my hometown w00t! ;D) and was shocked to find that there are some unneeded stuff in Contemporary Paducah section. For some reason, it was never removed. I then checked history page and found out which one put that stuff in and followed up on some of his/her contributions. I found out that you did warned him/her about it. I even noticed that there are still some vandalism left over in one of those articles about Southern Illinois routes that clearly was never noticed by anyone, it appears. These articles and those vandalism I'm speaking of can be found in articles above.
I tried to find a link to report that user but was unable to find so I found your name on that user's log and decided to contact you. Thanks in advance.

Hello-
I contacted you before about removing the Matt Busch Incident section from my bio page. What they are posting, and it is being posted by those involved, is not true and only being posted to do harm. The factrs are skewed and is about a small part of my personal life, not the 20 years of writing I have done.
If that section cannot be removed, can I ask that my entire entry be removed?

Subject: Steve Niles
Hello-
My name is Steve Niles. I’m a writer and recently someone has been adding something called “The Matt Busch Incident” to the page you have posted about me. The incident they are referring to is only a small part of my almost 20 year carrier and is being posted by someone who is either a friend of Matt Busch, Don Murphy or one of those two people themselves.
The incident itself was about a girlfriend and they are both using Wikipedia to slander my name and career. The facts are skewed and just plain incorrect.
You were kind enough to remove the text before, but it reappeared a few hours later.
If the text cannot be removed, can my entry be removed entirely? I enjoy Wikipedia but allowing bullies and thugs to post slanderous articles isn’t something I want to be a part of.
Please, just let me know what I can do.
Thank you.

Soup
Okay, here's the thing. The "soup nazi" userbox had been listed for speedy deletion. I never liked that particular concept anyway, so when it was listed, I deleted it.
It's a peculiar concept, sort of like a reverse euphemism treadmill? When Clarence Thomas was being criticised during his confirmation hearings, he described it as being a sort of "high-tech lynching"... except in the old days, lynching did not involve insulting a black man prior to putting him on the Supreme Court, but rather in hanging him by the neck until he was dead. In fact, I nearly wrote that Thomas was pilloried.
Calling someone a "soup Nazi" always gave me the image of a customer asking for soup, and instead the restaurant owner shoots him in the head and rapes his wife to death. DS 16:00, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- But you get the reference, right? It's just a Seinfeld joke. (I realize you were trying to make me understand a possible insidious nature behind the use of the term, but, again, it's "just a Seinfeld joke".) -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:54, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- I do get the reference, but I never liked it. Al Yaganeh hates it too. And not everyone watched Seinfeld, or did so enough to get references like that. It was not a good userbox. DS 18:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey Omicron!
Thanks for reverting the tagging on my userpage. Much appreciated! :) Looks like the vandal's been blocked for a week, so I leave you to your work. Thanks again, Firsfron of Ronchester 02:39, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Dear Wikipedia anti-vandalist
When I visited Wikipedia I got a notice that there was a new message for me (my IP address). Someone with my IP had commited vandalism.
The problem is that there are maybe 1000 people with my IP address, due to the cheap ISP putting us all on a network (I live in Albania and there is no other way here).
Although I haven't contributed much to Wikipedia, mainly due to english not being a mother language, I would like not to use the ability to add knowledge to our encyclopedia. I use Wikipedia more than all other websites combined and it would be awkward to be considered a "vandal".
I have registered under the username "Outsid3r". Is there any way I can be allowed to edit content even if my IP gets banned?

Thanks Omicronpersei8. I tried Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I hope I haven't made a new mistake :P. Omicronpersei8, the point is that I honestly don't have time to argue with them on this very simple issue. I am not happy with the progress. I don't want the users to get blocked but rather I want the section to stay there in the article. Thanks again for your warm comment on my talk page. Best wishes, --Reza1 09:07, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Vince Carter
Omicronpersei8 vandalized the 'Family' section of the page by deleting all the text from it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.12.145.90 (talk • contribs) 14:18, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- The reason I gave in the edit summary was "WP:LIVING". This addresses the additions of "Carter and his wife of two years, Dr. Ellen Rucker, have filed for divorce" and "He is no longer on speaking terms with members of his paternal family" [7]. These are objectionable edits and they have no sources to back them up. Mr. Carter is still living, so extra effort must be made to prevent spurious claims or libel against him from showing up on Wikipedia, as policy dictates. Another editor also feels that these additions are too closely resembling of rumors [8].
- The following addition is also questionable, as is the whole "Family" subheading:
They have one daughter - Kai Michelle Carter, named after his mother Michelle Carter-Robinson. Carter has one brother and a half-sister. |
-- because notability is not inherited (though I am open to argument on this particular addition), and because this part of the addition seems trivial overall. I hope this is a good enough explanation for my reversion. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, just because a subject informs you that he wishes to have the details of a scandal omitted does not mean that you can then remove nearly three paragraphs of writing and four links of proof. Furthermore you falsely claim while doing the edit that the dispute is resolved. On what do you base this? A report from ONE side of the dispute? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ColScott (talk • contribs) 07:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
When did I ever say it was resolved?1 Still, insignificant personal life trivia that comprises practically half of the article is not "details" of a "scandal", and, as well as being overkill, was poorly sourced and lacking of the attention to sensitivity for an article about a living person. Those reasons don't even cover my opinion of it being unencyclopedic, off-topic, and written in poor taste (and though it's not a good reason, it's something I really wouldn't care about even if I did know anything about the subject). It's written like a tabloid article and has an obvious POV slant, and it's neither noteworthy nor educational. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 08:58, 27 August 2006 (UTC)- As for proof, as I stated in my deletion edit summary, two of the four references are links to Livejournal pages. The second reference, it appears, is a message board thread, and the third is an editorial site. I mean, come on. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 09:10, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- 1 What I said was that in my personal opinion the usage of the {{npov}} and {{copyedit}} tags had been resolved, through removal of the only apparent section with a questionable point of view, and also through recent copyediting of the article. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 09:33, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

al-qaeda
Why isn't Al-qaeda a terrorist organization? I have tried to change the definition and you have reversed it. Why?
Dincher 20:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi -- the reason I reverted it was because it's POV language. I know the distinction may seem nitpicky, given that Al Qaeda is frequently referred to as a terrorist organization in the news, but the verbiage "terrorist" has been posted in replacement of "militant" many times and has been reverted many, many times by many, many, many editors. "Militant" seems to be a good, neutral term for an encyclopedic article. I hope you will see the reasoning for this as valid, and I thank you for your attempts to improve the site. I really do understand that you're just trying to help out, and it looks like you're editing in good faith. - You should respect Jaranda's administrative decision and move onwards and upwards
- My decision would be in favor of Ohnoitsjamie in this case anyway
- Ohnoitsjamie was authorized to go one over because you were participating in what is tantamount to vandalism
- If you'd have just read the policy that Ohnoitsjamie cited in reply to you on his talk page, you could have avoided this whole thing
- Wikilawyering is a lot more detrimental to Wikipedia than what Ohnoitsjamie did
- I feel it necessary to suggest that you slow down and read up a bit on how Wikipedia operates rather than spending time attempting what looks to me like revenge

Controversy
I became interested in controversial topics on Wikipedia. If you look up Lumbee you will see that it is one of the more controversial subjects on wikipedia. It's a long story about the Lumbee. I won't get into it. Anyway the Lumbee site is one that not just anybody can edit. So I decided to look for other sites that had the same issues. I was surprised to see that Osama bin Laden was less controversial than the Lumbee. Then I edited Osama to include the terrorist aspect of his "definition." I was surprised to see that you edited my edit so quickly. I certainly consider Osama to be a terrorist. One of the worst of all time. I do respect the differing opinions of Osama. I guess I have too. And I understand that the encyclopedia needs to be as neutral as possible. Anyway, thanks for the answers. I am appreciative of your "calmness" as well. Thanks again. Defamatory
Why is it defamatory for Jesse Jackson and Al Shaprton to be included into a category that which applies to them but it is not defamatory for everyone else in that category? 75.2.247.21 22:40, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at that category, it's mostly established racists or white supremacists. In general, these people have themselves announced that they hold this viewpoint. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are at best in a gray area on this point, and if it helps, I can tell you that this category has been added to these article pages many times and has been removed from them an equal number of times. I really don't mean you any ill will and do not assume bad faith in your edits, but we have a pretty strict policy about making assertions such as these. There need to be very reliable sources to back up this claim, as it could mean legal trouble otherwise. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:43, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- I notice you also removed this category from the Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. page. I personally don't have an objection to this (and I try to function as damage control and not an opinionated editor), but he is nonliving and thus being in this category is not quite as strongly enforced, and there also appears to be ample proof of anti-Semitism on that page (although I only gave it a cursory glance). Really, the main distinction here is that he is deceased and the two aforementioned people are not – sorry if that sounds silly. It's still policy that we all have to abide by, though.
- Thanks for trying to help out – your attempts really are appreciated. If you'd like, you're free to remove my warning from your talk page, too, as long as you can be sure to be a little more careful about adding articles to that category. I know it's kind of a hassle, but I just want what's best for the site. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:47, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I removed J.P. Kennedy Sr. because he doesn't belong in that category if Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton don't. 75.2.247.21 22:56, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
