citations

[edit]

I noticed on Bondi Beach that you appear to be creating citations in the "old way" (which is also the hard way). There are much easier ways. Take a look here and see which toolbar you are seeing on your edit screen. If you prefer to use the source editor, I would strongly encourage you to be using the 3rd toolbar showing on the list (the one described there as "Enhanced editing toolbar with wizards". To do this, go to Preferences (top right) > Editing > and tick "Enable enhanced editing toolbar", then Save (lower left). You should then see that toolbar when you edit. When you click on the word "Cite", it will show you (on the next line, a drop-down list of citation types: Web, News, Book etc. Choose the type of thing you are citing and then you will get a pop-up screen with a form to fill in the fields (as many as you want). It is a much easier way to make citations.

Or try using the Visual Editor. To enable, Preferences > Editing > and then make sure that "Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta" is NOT ticked and for Editing mode, choose the dropdown "Show me both editor tabs". And Save (lower left). Then you should be given two edit tabs ("edit" for the Visual Editor and "edit source" for the source editor which you currently use). The Visual Editor is more like using Microsoft Word.

Give them a try, you can always your preferences back if you don't like them. But I think doing one or both of these will make your editing task much easier, particularly for citations. If you have any questions, please ask me. Kerry (talk) 20:52, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Di Jones Real Estate

[edit]

Hi, My name is Carly and I work Di Jones Real Estate. I noticed that you made some edits on the LJ Hooker Real Estate Agents page and also on the biography page of Mr LJ Hooker. If you know about LJ Hooker you probably know about Di Jones Real Estate. I tried to create a page for Di Jones Real Estate but it was rejected by Wikipedia. The reason was that it was not notable enough. I am not an expert editor so I really don't know what to do now. Are you able to help me create a page in the appropriate format? Diji1891 (talk) 01:48, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carly. I know about Di Jones Real Estate. I have either created or contributed to a number of pages to do with the Australian real estate industry. From a cultural perspective it is possible that other non-Australian editors don't have a sense of how central real estate is to our way of life here, so they may see that you have an unimportant organisation. It is no surprise that the film The Castle was such a huge success in Australia, and continues to be referred to as a meme to this day. Australia is almost unique in not having capital gains tax OR death duties levied on the family home. Most countries have one or both. This means that the 'family home' is not only a family castle it is a very significant store of generational wealth. I always laugh when foreign financial commentators classify Australian residential property as 'over-valued' compared to other parts of the world; they just don't understand the fundamentals of how our tax system works. Also, in most parts of Europe a real estate agent is little more than a conveyancer and in the United States a realtor is usually an individual loosely associated with a very large 'faceless' brand such as ReMax or Century 21. In Australia of course most of our major real estate agencies were founded by individual entrepreneurs using their name as the brand, notably Lj Hooker, Mcgrath, Di Jones, Harcourts, Ray White etc. It is interesting that this is generally not the case in Europe and the United States; and I am really at a loss as to why this is the case. In any event, in terms of the organisation being a major participant in a very significant industry, and the fact that the founders of the major brands in Australia are almost regarded as celebrities I can't see why the organisation does not deserve to have a page. Let me do some research and see what is possible. It may take a while. PinkAechFas (talk) 21:42, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Carly,
This has taken longer than I anticipated. I have had some time over Easter to look at this some more and the challenge I face is that I can't find enough external third party references to support the facts in the article other than the dijones.com.au website. During the 1990's and early 2000's the best sources of information are probably newspapers and periodicals such as the Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian newspaper. Unfortunately these are not digitised and are very difficult to search as they are only available offline. It would take many hours of research in a library to try to find the references. I can see from the old versions of the Di Jones website on archive.org that there had historically been an 'in the news' section of the website where press clippings were posted. While archive.org is a good resource it is fairly 'hit and miss' as it does not keep a complete copy of all website pages so there are probably many articles that I can't see. If you have any copes of press clippings or other references such as books etc please let me know and I will read them.PinkAechFas (talk) 05:12, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
