The speedy deletion isn't a judgement about the notability of this person, but rather about the lack of assertions of notability in the article itself. If you can dig up even one magazine article, newspaper article or book that mentions him and reference it, you could almost certainly get someone to remove the speedy deletion template. It's still possible that, if the reference is low-quality, that the article still might get listed as a different sort of deletion, but other sorts of deletion procedures have higher standards and give you more time to get the article in shape.
