You sent messages about images I uploaded and the copyright I choose when I uploaded (see http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Robert.maclean&oldid=431099470). You are correct that the wrong license was choosen, however when I go to the images they are deleted. Can you undelete them so I can fix it? Robert.maclean (talk) 14:11, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- I tagged them and User:Diannaa deleted them - log is Diannaa deleted "File:Visual Studio 2010 Data Tooltips.png" (F11: No evidence of permission: needs permission of copyright holder of the software.
We need to know how you plan to fix them? - The choice will be
- Obtain permission from Microsoft to have screen-shots of Visual Studio - i.e obtain an OTRS ticket (see WP:DCM and WP:COPYREQ) - if you do that, the OTRS volunteer will ask Diannaa to undelete them.
- If you wish to use them in a "fair use" mode then I suggest you create a new user page - e.g. User:Robert.maclean/Images will do, and add the data you will put into the 4 Free Use Rationales (one for each image). So as not to upset the system I would suggest add four lots of
| Description = | Source = | Article = | Portion = | Low_resolution = | Purpose = | Replaceability = | other_information =
I can then add the correct template headers and the {{Non-free software screenshot}} template to the restored images. NOTE that FUR means low resolution, so that means I will have to reduce the image to about 300px high, which might not be that useful. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:51, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

page delete
Hi, Im new here, I tried creating a page ( Weedie Braimah) and didnt know the words were from another page, Im trying to start over by putting the his bio up. can I do so? Djembefoni (talk) 20:42, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- You can either start again, making sure nothing is a copy of phrases that might be found on the web. I have to add it's not easy to create new articles directly - you may want to consider creating as a sub page of your user space - it's far easier to then slowly work on the page without having the worries of other editors checking your work (but they will still check for copyright!). I would suggest create User:Djembefoni/Weedie Braimah, and add
{{Userspace draft}}
- as the very first line, that puts in a banner that shows the page is in progress of being written. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:54, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of: Baseline Privacy Interface
RE: 23:21, 26 November 2010 Ronhjones (talk | contribs) deleted "Baseline Privacy Interface" (G7: One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page) I am new to Wikipedia, and this is an area that I am familiar with, but before starting an article, I wanted to understand why the previous article was deleted. Was it because the topic should be expanded in the main DOCSIS article? Or was it simply a contributor request (as indicated by G7). Thanks Bobsd (talk) 23:29, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- If an article is mainly been added by one editor (and that would suggest a fairly new article as well), then that author may decide that he has changed their mind about keeping it. They then either blank the page or put a {{db-G7}} template in place. Assuming that there is only one major author, then the page will be deleted (well, actually not deleted, just removed from the public view - nothing is ever really deleted). In this case a look at the page history shows

- that the data was copied from other web pages - maybe to later re-word them - but that is not allowed to be done here, that sort of exercise has to be done off-line. Note that the automatic content check (CorenSearchBot) quickly found matching text elsewhere on the web. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:03, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Unblock left on hold
You left an unblock on hold at User talk:Magnonimous on 9 July. The blocking admin agreed to accept an unblock on the same day. I have taken the liberty of assuming you have just forgotten about it, and would have unblocked. Since the user has already been left waiting for 11 days, I have unblocked. If you think I was mistaken please reprimand me: I will be watching this page. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:55, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi there, thanks for upgrading my warning to the Grammar King. I was losing track of the warnings he's had, to be honest. It's a shame he doesn't seem to be remotely interested in discussing anything, and I guess eventually it'll mean bad news for him. I'm glad you're on the case! - Subsequent blocks are normally longer... I go for about 3x as a rule - this particular block now on is a special case, bigger than my usual 3x, but the approaching w/e demands it to protect Wikipedia. I hope he comes back and tries an unblock - we need this user to start talking - he will learn nothing by just waiting for block ends and then re-editing. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:25, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Copyright violation
Hi you removed a speedy deletion tag on Bahai Internet Agency because you said that it comes from a page that has CC-by-SA, but that page itself holds notable verbatim copies of texts from other sources which do not have a copy-left licence so both the initial source-watch page and the WIkipedia page are copyright violations. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 20:52, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- The you will have to quote the pages that have their copyright violated - as it stood there was no url I could check to force the delete of a page. If there are just sections of copyright violations, then you can always just delete the actual sections. G12 is only when so much of the page is copyright violation, that to remove all the "bad" text would leave a page that has no substance. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:57, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

- Not strictly vandalism in the WP sense - more a content dispute, and I can see why you were loathe to revert (danger of 3RR - which does not apply for true vandalism). Full page protect for a week and rolled back to earlier version to allow discussion of content to be added/removed. Ronhjones (Talk) 16:06, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

- IPs - how I despair sometimes, there are plenty of good ones, but the bad ones really give them a bad name. No one will indef block an IP, but we will go up to 1 year at a time - which is needed in some cases. I have always advocated only logged in editing, but until we get a majority... Ronhjones (Talk) 13:00, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree and I also concur that there are good IP editors contributing silently and there are also bad IP editors, just like other registered users do. Anyway, to each his own, I've moved on but he's obviously stuck with that "I'm a victim" mentality, something which I don't think anyone of us has a solution for it until he can let go of his real life baggage (reading into human psychology, I must say that he has them, 100%.) and edit/participate in Wikipedia as any responsible member would (per WP:Competence and WP:Common sense). Thanks for hearing me rant, if you can call that it. Cheers and best! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 13:24, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Victim mentality? Ha! That's a good one. If it irritates you so much when people do not accept your appalling behaviour, then you've got problems. 88.5.27.93 (talk) 17:06, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

If you want another vote for registered users only, let me know. einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'd vote for it too. The open hostility towards anonymous editors is massively unpleasant and there's no point pretending that you as a community want anyone to contribute anonymously when in practice you evidently don't. 88.5.27.93 (talk) 18:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- There is some genuine appealing behaviour with some (definitely not all) IP editing. It can only serve to sway the bulk of the main logged in editors against them. The anti-vandal tools also regard all IP edits as potential problems. There is/was a page where one could add one name - just cannot find it (so long ago - possibly found via a link from a Village pump proposal), so I'm trying to fix the userbox {{User anti-anon}} so that it lists all who have it. Nothing in it yet - I think it takes a day for the WP software to fill such a category from a templated box. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:49, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
I am not sure if this is really the place to carry this discussion on - but will do so anyway. Then Unwatch the page so as not to get further drawn in. I have perhaps 1,500 pages on my watch list and most of the undoing that I engage in is from annon editors. And it is a pain in the ass. Somedays I feel like a 6th grade teacher, others as if I am the overseer of every Angry white male in the world. it's not why I edit wikiedia, but it is a necessary function, so it is mine. By registering as a user you do not need to let anyone know who you really are. it is, or can be, as anonymous as a number.Give it a try, or have you already done so and found it not satisfactory? Carptrash (talk) 21:29, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, maybe we need another proposal at the Village Pump. Managed to get the userbox {{User anti-anon}} to start logging names. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:49, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Problems with user Nmate
Good day. I dont know what to do with my problem. It exists one user who permanently delete my contributions to Wikipedia without reason and without discussion. I dont want the edit wars but I want the constructive building of Wikipedia. This user was banned for a several times but he has not changed his behavior. Its User:Nmate who all time attacks me because of the level of my English langauge. He also writes that my language is a reason to stop contributing to Wikipedia for me (his argument for deletion of my contributions to Wikipedia is also my english). But I try to make a exact citations from reliable sources written in English languge. Here are a few examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Tivadar_Kosztka_Csontv%C3%A1ry&action=history and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Samofi. He usualy cooperate with next users what noticed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Nmate/Archive. User:Hobartimus and User:Nmate edit synchronize and they usualy react to my contributions in similary time and to similary topics (usualy history of Upper Hungary). Usualy they has not a lot of contribution just delete stuff from the other users. I was same, but 6 months long ban helped me, so maybe its a solution... Thank you for help. --Samofi (talk) 12:53, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Not easy. My suggestions would be
- (Important) Do not make any more edits to that page for 24h - both of you are just about falling foul of WP:3RR.
- Start a new section on the talk page - your English ability does not apply here. State the facts you have found, where you have found them and suggest some text for addition, and ask for others to comment - if the data is good, then they can suggest some re-phrasing (if necessary), they cannot block it because of your English - pages are supposed to be constructed by consensus based on verifiable data from reliable sources.
- If necessary (i.e no reply on the talk page) leave a short message (or {{talkback}} template) at the other editor's talk pages, asking them to view your data and comment.
- Consider a third opinion or dispute resolution.

User:202.156.13.11
Can you imagine what's going on with this user's block history? You just declined an unblock request because the IP wasn't blocked (someone had unblocked it almost a month ago), but when I went to block it just now for 4RR, the system told me that it was blocked and would only allow me to modify the existing block. Nyttend (talk) 23:05, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- I suspect a bug. Certainly the system showed it was unblocked. I have the strikethrough script which shows blocked users - that did not activate. The last entry in the block log was "17:04, 6 July 2011 La goutte de pluie (talk | contribs | block) unblocked 202.156.13.11", and the block user page said it was not blocked. I can only suppose there was a database malfunction at the time of unblocking (I had 140 images the other day that thought they were pages, not images, all down to a database malfunction, I had to null edit all of them to fix it.) Sometimes the servers get rather overloaded, but it seems to be happening more of late... Ronhjones (Talk) 18:38, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I've just noticed that you nominated this page in my userspace for deletion at MFD a couple months ago, and it was deleted. TBH, I don't remember what was there, and I was just curious if you remembered the topic (or how you came to notice it in my userspace in the first place). I'm not objecting to the deletion, although I'm kind of surprised that it was worth the trouble of deleting, and to find out that Wikipedia has a policy that allows for deleting of unfinished drafts in userspace (I mean, that seems ironic in light of all the total crap in article-space that I've tried to delete but that's been saved on the theory that maybe someday someone might possibly come along and turn it into something worthwhile). But, again, I'm not objecting or suggesting anything wrong took place, just wondering how it happened. Thanks for any light you can shed. Propaniac (talk) 23:46, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- You can have it back if you want to finish it (just let me know). See Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Propaniac/su for the discuission, it was deleted as a WP:STALEDRAFT - your last edit was 18:11, 26 September 2008. How did I find it - no idea! I've edited so many pages in the last two months, I can only suspect I was having one of my regular checks on free images and noticed a link to that page from an image. About the revision..
Hello there, I got your message about a revision under my IP address, but there must be some mistake. I haven't edited anything, nor was I even on that page that the edit under my IP adress occurred. I am sorry it happened, but I am confused, as I never edit anything on wikipedia. 24.44.48.83 (talk) 01:52, 4 August 2011 (UTC) Was I hacked? Or does someone have the same IP address as me? 24.44.48.83 (talk) 02:06, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- I suspect your IP address changes every time you log in. That's the problem with editing as an IP, you get loaded with the sins of other users - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/24.44.48.83. There is no way to stop that, besides...
- Use an ISP that gives you a static IP rather than a dynamic IP
- Create an account and log in to edit, it's probably more anonymous than an IP (no one knows your location)

Hello, did you really need to delete the page after I contested deletion and while I was obviously working on it? Best, Markvs88 (talk) 20:58, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. Copyright violations cannot be allowed to stay. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:59, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes... and I was obviously editing the page while you deleted it. This page didn't last one hour, and it didn't last 15 minutes after I contested speedy delete, with NO disucssion on the talk page. Would you please explain your logic of deleting a page that was contested while it was being edited? I understand Copyvios can't be allowed to stay, but to not allow any time for them to be fixed? Speedy delete =/= instant delete. What the heck is the point of contesting a speedy delete then? Best, Markvs88 (talk) 21:13, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Only if the nominator has got it wrong - e.g there is a CC-BY-SA on the web page that the nominator missed - we have to check for such possible permissions before deletion. The fact it lasted almost 1 hour is unusual - usually G12 go in under 15 minutes. The only way you can work on copyvio material is to edit it on your PC first. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:29, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- I did not create the page, I was trying to salvage it. All I have to say at this point is... what's the point? Yeah, I should have removed the speedy tag instead of just hitting the contest button and entering a plea. But then again, I just proved that it doesn't actualy do anything and that the process is basically broken. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 21:35, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is never enough time to salvage a copyvio, unless you copy the entire text to your PC. The Wikipedia Foundation is a charity, a legal battle over copyright would be a major issue. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:42, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, yes... you make a great point. If it's being fixed just erase it anyway so that no one can file a lawsuit in those 5-10 minutes. Thanks for your time, Markvs88 (talk) 21:51, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- C'ést la vie. Also one can't detect a page currently being edited - click delete, add a reason and press OK = gone, edit conflict screens don't come up. Ronhjones (Talk) 22:01, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Er, yes you can. Had you bothered to check the page before you deleted it to make sure it was still in violation, you would have seen 2 or 3 saves within 5 minutes of the current time, and the addition of citations. Then you might have taken the radical step of editing the page (before deleting it) to see if anyone was still working on it. Yeah, yeah, whatever. I know I'm wasting my breath in trying to convince you that the system needs reform. Gotta worry about those lawsuits from QuantumLawyers (tm) "We file against plagarism within the hour its posted on an anonymous online encyclopedia". Best, Markvs88 (talk) 01:58, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- I don't write the rules. Any editor is free to discuss policies and guidelines at the appropriate talk page and suggest changes. All the policies and guidelines are made by a consensus of editors, the admins then take those policies and try to apply them equally. We don't set the policies as an admin group, we let all users have an input, although for G12 there may be specific guidance from the Foundation. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:44, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- What rules? All I see is a team of people with fast trigger fingers, deleting articles as quickly as bank reposessions were done during the real estate crash, not giving a second thought about IF an article BEING salvaged, never mind IF it is/should be salvagable. I've said my pind, and if it's made the least bit of an impact on you I rightly don't know. If so, I entreat you to consider (and propose) a motion where speedy deletes that are not defamatory either can stay up to an hour from the last edit made. If not, I'm sorry for wasting your time, and find "the rules" and their application deplorable. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 15:58, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- You are almost correct, speedies are usually left for at least an hour since the last edit in the hope that the editor will see the speedy and improve the page (I deleted two very small pages last night - well after the hour had elapsed), but that does not, and I suspect will never apply to G12 - unless an editor gets to it first and quickly removes all the copyvio text, and I have seen pages like that and declined the speedy because the offending text was removed. Samofi
Hello Ronhjones,
The answer you have given to Samofi [1] is quite elusive, because in my opinion:
- There is no point in pursuing any dispute resolution process unless Samofi and I are in a dispute over content ,however, I do not think that is the case right here. As the reason why his text was expunged from the moot article was that it does not make sense in English and is completely un-understandable.[2]
- We must pay attention to Samofi's English skills as long as he contributes to the English Wikipedia whose aim is to convey information to its readers in the English language.
And if I am drawing the right conclusion from your answer:
- I need to discuss edits with Samofi, even though I, honestly, scarcely understand his English ,which is insufficient to be edited the English Wikipedia.
- You fob Samofi off on me (and so do several other users) as it is you who gave him a second chance for the return after being blocked from editing Wikipedia for indefinite time and then you do not have to meet the problem any more, however, we might just as well get used to the situation with a wry smile on our faces.
And in addition, all or almost all of the contributions of Samofi are dedicated to changing the nationality of every possible famous person who possesses a WP article from Hugarian into Slovak ,which is an absolutely guaranteed way to disruption on Wikipedia and to spark off an ethnic dispute. Nay, the easiest way to do that is to go round to a bunch of articles changing round peoples nationality and changing the place names from one language to another.[3][4][5][6][7] Not to mention the fact that Samofi even showed up on your talk page ,making brazen demands for action against me ,viz, "Usualy they has not a lot of contribution just delete stuff from the other users. I was same, but 6 months long ban helped me, so maybe its a solution..."(if I got it right) --Nmate (talk) 09:38, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- All my edits were precedented by reliable sources - I have not used POV or removed matherials which were cited from reliable sources. My english was attacked by Nmate, because of my contrubution to Kosztka but I have used the same citation like in the original source: http://www.google.com/search?q=kosztka+slovak+mixed+german&btnG=Vyh%C4%BEad%C3%A1vanie+kn%C3%ADh&tbm=bks&tbo=1&hl=sk Slovakia was part of Hungarian Kingdom for a 1000 years, there is a lot of persons of mixed ethnicity. Percentage of Magyars in the Hungarian Kingdom was from 28% to 49% in history, so the majority of population was not ethnic Magyars, but they are presented as Hungarians, because of affiliaton to Hungarian Kingdom. In the Royal Hungary durring the Ottoman Occupation of Budin Pashalik was about 50% of Slovaks. I have changed geographical names to the official names in that time (in historical articles) or to the most preffered names in English sources - according to rules. Nmate was restricted by admin Elonka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Elonka/Hungarian-Slovakian_experiment) because he was changeing Slovak geographical names to Hungarian - he doesnt respect any rules. Names of Slovak vilages and towns were usualy changed (magyarized) between 1899-1907 - and they are actual only in Hungary. Iam historical geographer, in the old maps or documents (for example nice maps from Samuel Mikoviny, http://books.google.com/books?id=R43P5vJQDkoC&pg=PA26&dq=samuel+mikoviny+slavonic&hl=en&ei=s5Q6TpjAEZOv8QP4lqHqAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=samuel%20mikoviny%20slavonic&f=false) were used local names of vilages in Upper Hungary usualy Slavonic or Slovak names. For example Matthias Bel was born in vilage Ochowa in that time (in Slovak Očova) - sounds same. Vilage was changed to Nagyocsa in 1907 and Nmate tried to use this name. Matthias Bel lived in the 17th and 18th century - it was no Nagyocsa and no Hungarian Kingdom - it existed only Royal Hungary which was integral part of Habsburg empire. In the article Natio Hungarica (http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Natio_Hungarica&action=history) he supports to redirect it, but Natio Hungarica or Hungarus has nothing to do with the Name of Hungary. Its about people who lived there, who adopted Hungarian national identity, but their ethnicity and language was Slovak, Magyar, German and so on. I want just to show all history based on reliable sources - without censorship and sometimes its important to show more opinions from scholars with different views on the topic. Sorry for my English. --Samofi (talk) 13:12, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- Easy guys. Look - Anyone (who is not blocked or banned) has the right to add data to a page providing it's verifiable from reliable sources, using the normal WP:BRD strategy - no one owns any page on WP, all editors are treated equally. If there is a problem with an editor's grasp of English (and with all the editors on English WP, this is not an isolated case), then the logical place to discuss the format of the data is on the Article's talk page, before inserting into the main article - thus allowing the grammar to be tidied up - there is no mechanism in WP to be able to block users from article pages because their English is poor, we always ask such editors to discuss on the talk page, we can only take action against them only if they refuse to discuss on the talk page and keep editing the article with bad English. If editors fall out or cannot agree then we have the third opinion and dispute resolution systems to provide independent analysis of the problem. Ronhjones (Talk) 13:46, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

New Square incident
This article on the New Square incident is pure speculation at best in regards to anyones involvment outside of the arsonist and his victim as well as the practices mentioned in said community.
- It's all referenced. Discuss it on the talk page if you don't think it should be there. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:47, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
I was wondering why you removed the tag saying "needs additional citations for verification." I couldn't tell from your edit summary. Most of the article has no sources right now. I added the only two references and they don't cover most of the facts in the article. Cloveapple (talk) 20:56, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wacky... I reverted an IP who removed it, seems Huggle decided to change it back - Huggle wasn't working well tonight, I gave up trying to use it, it was a bit slow, maybe I hit a wrong key in anguish trying to get to work... Edit reverted. Thanks for the message. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:01, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Please reconsider your not deleting these - Donnybrook is found here and Wallan here. In fact, if you could just delete all files from that website it would be appreciated - there are at least 100, most of which claim to be used with permission but which never actually show it, the rest of which make no claim of permission at all. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:09, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

- I thought you were on to a winner, but sadly the images were uploaded here in 2006 and according to Web Archive those web pages were created in 2008, and the files are half the size in bytes (same pixels).
- File:DonnybrookStation1.jpg 640px × 480px on both sites; 43.53 kB (44,574 bytes) on web and 134.01 kB (137,227 bytes) on WP. We'll just have to wait for FfD to proceed. I'll see if I can add any more to the list. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:23, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- There's dozens' of them! Looks like User:Kelly is putting them up for "no permission" e.g. File:Almurta-TrestleBridge-railway-station2.jpg, I'll make sure they have not missed any. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:27, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

- Yes, the toolserver is incredibly slow these days. If it is fast, it is a very handy method. The only steps to perform the move are typing the keyword (2 lettres in my case) in the address field and press Enter. That's all. No entering of user name, password or clicking a button. --Leyo 21:03, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Houston Home Journal
Hi, I wanted to ask if you could re-open User:Toussaint for editing. Understanding the reasons for closure, I want to edit the article without plagiarizing the website. Thanks. --Toussaint (talk) 20:10, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- It was obvious that User:Devans902 wanted the article very much - so much that (s)he ignored all warnings and re-created 2 minutes after deletion and then proceeded to delete the speedy tags. I cannot restore the article - as it was word for word of http://www.hhjnews.com/v2/content.aspx?ID=1859&MemberID=1275; - all that was missed was the final paragraph of author credits! Therefore, you will have to write the page from scratch, which may or may not take a while, during which time we might get another does of copyvio dumped in, which could result in your work getting lost. Can I therefore suggest that you start it as User:Toussaint/Houston Home Journal? Once you feel it has enough "substance", then just ask me or any other admin or use WP:RM to move it to Houston Home Journal. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:00, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

British Chess Magazine
Dear Ron,
As Editor of the British Chess Magazine I intend to upload the front cover image for August. This was created by myself and the IPR for this image are assigned to BCM.
To avoid the image being deleted what is the appropriate permission I should assign to the image?
Regards,
Dr. John Upham

- You have a choice...
- Upload to en:WP and have a WP:FURG along with {{non-free book cover}} - That keeps the copyright with yourself, but if other editors might think that such an image is not necessary for the article, then they can proposed deletion on those grounds. Also the image can only be used on this WP.
- If copyright is not an issue, then read WP:DCM and request a OTRS ticket, the image can be uploaded to commons with {{OTRS pending}}, and all the wikis in the world may use the image if they desire.

What happened to these FfD's?
I came across these files that you tagged for FfD but either never nominated or got deleted from the nomination page. What happened? I've removed the tags. Feel free to renominate. Thanks!

Image deletion nominations
Hi Ron! When you are considering nominating images for deletion and it appears that the images could be of useful subjects (geography etc.), could you check the uploader's contributions before nominating them for deletion? Generally uploaders add their images to articles immediately before or after uploading, and they often describe them in the image caption there. I was able to identify well over half of the images that you nominated for deletion today/yesterday using this method. Thanks, and happy editing! Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:46, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Good idea, I'll give it a spin. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:17, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Good evening,
Just to clarify, I didn't mean to use weasel words on the menstrual cup page. Both the words "clean" and "safe" have been used by manufacturers when it describing the water used for sanitizing the item. I never linked to them since it seemed to be the overall consensus. As for linking to cloth pads in the "disadvantages" section, I've had years of studies encouraging alternatives to be provided when something doesn't work. I see now that it's already mentioned in the "see also" section, so I'll consider that good enough for providing alternatives. I'll keep all of this in mind for future revisions. mccojr02 04:03, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- That's fine. It was actually the "More to the point" phrase which caught my attention, which one would not expect on WP. Also "safe" and "clean" are not both needed - if water is clean, then it must be safe. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:20, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Which date of the race is correct?
Your answer to Blast furnace chip worker seemed to cover most bases but I suggested one more: if a talk page has a Wikipeidia project at the top of the page then posting the question on the project's talk page is likely to get it noticed by people who know the subject. -- PBS (talk) 21:35, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Normally I would say that, but that page has non-welcoming banner that says Please limit discussion to improvement of this Wikipedia project page. You may wish to ask factual questions about WikiProject Trains at the Reference desk, discuss relevant Wikipedia policy at the Village pump, or ask for help at the Help desk. - hence my answer to use the RD. hello
Hi sir, may i know what was wrong in my edits. Sagar06ssb (talk) 18:03, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- (most important) You are never allowed to copy text from other websites, that is a copyright violation, unless there are very clear Creative commons licenses on the remote web page.
- All pages must be notable, and supported by verifiable and reliable sources. If it a function of a piece of software that you are describing (as were the two deleted pages), then it won't be notable - it will need to be part of the article for the software.
- I will add a "welcome" template to your talk page with all the links you need to check what is required of a page on English Wikipedia. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:14, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
98.237.20.196
Just as a little note, there's a thread on this guy at ANI. If you want to check it out, it's WP:ANI#Questionable edits to kana articles.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 22:20, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- OK. I've also looked up the IP address, it's a cable connection, therefore probably a static IP - I've marked it as so on User talk:98.237.20.196. So he's got the first normal block, as time goes on if he repeats then the blocks can be progressively larger. Ronhjones (Talk) 22:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- It's a lot of articles to keep watch on, though. Seeing as he's been at this since January, should we perhaps extend the block?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 23:40, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Since it's just one IP, I would just watch the IP's edits for a while. We can only assume (at this stage) that he is static, time will soon tell. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:47, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Changing my username...
Hi Ronhjones ! I want to Change my username from Jeffoneilhairstylist to Jeff O'Neil Hair Stylist ... how can i do that? --Jeffoneilhairstylist (talk) 22:49, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- WP:CHU - note that if you decide to write about yourself (I'm sure that has not crossed your mind), then
- Read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY and WP:COI
- You will have to change it again as a user name cannot be shown to be linked to an article your write - otherwise it tends to show a position of inside knowledge, and on Wikipedia we have to show that all editors are equal.
- Personally, I would leave out the single apostrophe - apostrophes are used a lot in the wiki markup, and the odd one has been known to cause some problems

If you're going to kill unblock requests, please do it by (a) using the proper template and (b) providing an actual rationale; I've undone your close because it lacks an appropriate explanation and borks things up - and left the blocked user highly confused and pestering me on IRC. Please feel free to (properly) redo it. Ironholds (talk) 16:08, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- He was not currently requesting unblock, he was editing as a 2nd chance - there was therefore no need to formally decline or accept, otherwise it keeps flagging up at Category:Requests for unblock, when he actually does not the attention of an admin at this point. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:11, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- The fact that it was an unblock template with the phrasing "Since I have matured when I was blocked and have not made any edits whatsoever on enwiki or simple wikipedia since I was banned in december, I am requesting my block is lifted." makes it pretty clear he was requesting an unblock. Ironholds (talk) 02:01, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- He was originally, and then the discussion (below the template) moved on to suggesting what he should do, and a 2nd chance was suggested and others agreed, then he started doing the edits for the 2nd chance, thus the open unblock template was redundant. I told him so in an e-mail and he undid your edit. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:41, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Series of AFDs on Bharati Matha Burial Temples
Hi,
With respect to the series of AFDs on the Bharati Matha Burial Temples, I would like to ask you to consider the merge I've proposed, and if you agree, the withdraw the nomination. I still have concerns about original research as noted, but I think it makes sense to merge the material together into the one single article, and consider it as a single entity. In the end, it may still wind up at AFD, but I do believe this bears some more work before we make that decision. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 14:44, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- Merge is just fine. I've added my comments on the pages. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:39, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

FireHawkCT (talk) 19:21, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- It was nominated by User:OlYeller21 for
- WP:CSD#A7
- WP:CSD#G11
- WP:CSD#G12 - Copyright infringement of http://www.peddersusa.com/aboutUs = © copyright Pedders Suspension 2006
- With the first two, you can ask for time to fix the issues, but the third one requires immediate deletion. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- P.S. It may be better to start such a page in your user space as User:FireHawkCT/Pedders, and head the page with {{userspace draft}} - A7 does not apply in user space. Editors tend to be more forgiving on G11 in user space, but G12 is still not on. You must write the whole article in your own words - a close paraphrase won't do either. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:31, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your time.
I'm sorry if this is a re-hash, i'm new to posting on wikipedia.
A7 - No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content). I'm not sure i understand this, You are saying that you feel the page wasn't important? I'm sure i can find many much less 'important' pages on wikipedia. Please explain
G11 - Unambiguous advertising or promotion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walmart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal-Mogul Both are companies and I've attempted to start a page similar to what is listed on these pages, as well as many others. How are those pages different?
G12 - Unambiguous copyright infringement. Even though i have approval the info can't be loaded on to wikipedia because wikipedia doesn't have rights to it, understood, i would have to rewrite the information.
Why can i not use the existing page and just edit the info thus retaining the page name and url? FireHawkCT (talk) 04:20, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- A7 - Standards have changed over the years, what slipped though before won't now. It will take time to wheedle out those old pages that should not really be here. This is always a tricky one to get by. More so, I think, for companies.
- G11 - Same problem as A7. I always create new pages in user space. It will give you time to perfect the page, and you can ask for others opinions at WP:RFF before moving it.
- G12 - which is the real reason it was deleted. If there is a copy on the web, then either the automatic bots or the new page patrollers will find it. Choice is a full re-write (not a close paraphrase), OR donate permission to wikipedia OR kill the "© copyright Pedders Suspension 2006" on the web page and replace with something like CC-BY-SA 3.0 - see also WP:DCM. Remember if you use the last two suggestions then anyone in the world is free to use that text for any purpose, including commercial usage - note the very bottom of every WP page says Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License Ronhjones (Talk) 18:18, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
nowCommons deletions
Hi Ronhjones, some hints: :-) you did delete File:EXPfivesixone.png and File:Beta-CIT.png without checking the bot move of the file in Commons (big yellow box). The file pages in COM are a mess currently. Please do so before deleting. After deletion non-enwp-admins cannot compare the contents anymore. So, please do it before deletion.
Another thing: moving all file versions would also be a good idea - older edits cannot be reviewed or reverted anymore now. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:51, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- User:Leyo has pointed me to a script for cleanup, and also how to find the ones I transferred. How do you move all versions? - I'm just using the standard bot. Most of the images I'm moving are chemical structures and only have one version anyway. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:27, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again, you cannot use the direct TUSC transfer of Commonshelper. You can transfer images with more than one versions by using Commonshelper without TUSC and uploading the oldest version first. Then upload the newer version as new file versions in Commons manually. Last file version upload should be the newest version. commons:Commons:Bots/Requests/OgreBot is currently in devlopment to upload such files via bot.
- The important thing is not a complete cleanup, but at least a removal of the yellow box (checking that all info was transferred completely and that author and license is given correctly). :) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:08, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. It will be nice when OgreBot is up and running. I've still a few hundred chemical structures to move, I might leave the multiple ones to last (thankfully, that will only be a few.) Ronhjones (Talk) 18:06, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Becky Altringer
I removed the prod tag you placed on Becky Altringer as a past AfD that resulted in deletion was vacated at DRV. This notwithstanding, multiple editors have made substantive contributions to this article, so "author requests deletion" in and of itself is not a sufficient deletion rationale. I have no prejudice against opening another AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 21:43, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Deleted Material
I've noticed that all of the info I've deleted is directly from gongwer, a pay-per view Ohio statehouse news venue. Therefore, I have deleted information that is directly copied from the site. Thanks for the heads up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrittataOhio (talk • contribs) 18:51, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- You can't just delete data without showing where there is a copyright problem, ideally use a {{copyvio}} or {{db-g12}}. Mass removal of data complete with references will nearly always be reverted, as it will flag up automatic warnings. If in doubt, discuss on the article's talk page, or associated WikiProject. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:56, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- Also note plenty of news sites will use Wikipedia material to fatten their reports. If in doubt you need to check the date of material addition to WP and to the news site. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:58, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
The problem with that is that unless someone is willing to pay $100 a year for a subscription then no one will know that this is copywright infringement. What can we do? FrittataOhio (talk) 18:59, 6 September 2011 (UTC) I've also already had this conversation with another admin and the articles predate the wikipedia additions. FrittataOhio (talk) 19:02, 6 September 2011 (UTC) One more thing- literally 100% of the information deleted is from a blocked user who was blocked for copyright violations. In fact, nine of his articles were already deleted. FrittataOhio (talk) 19:04, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- You could raise it here - WP:CP. Since most of the parts were referenced (and not to gongwer), then I would expect that gongwer has got it's material from those references anyway. As for the user, well you may be right, but as you say, how to test it? Ronhjones (Talk) 19:07, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Gongwer is an evening paper and the others referenced seemed to have come out the following morning from gongwers reports. It seems as if the user in question would copy and paste from gongwer and then reference it with a similar article, thus giving the illusion that it was not copyright infringement. Also, it seems that he was caught earlier from doing exactly this from gongwer. Would you allow me to delete the information an post a reasoning on their talk pages? I would really not like to have this info on display uh linger. FrittataOhio (talk) 19:13, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- OK, FIRST put an full explanation of what you intend to do on the talk page and why, and then do the revert. I will kill some of those warnings for you as well. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:15, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
ok. Thanks. 174.252.213.179 (talk) 19:52, 6 September 2011 (UTC) Will you please do something to let others know that I'm not vandalizing pages. - It would help if you would reference this section User talk:Ronhjones#Deleted_Material in your Edit Summaries. — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 22:07, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that the user should be doing this without consensus... no-one has verified it and it has to be in our nature to be slightly dubious of mass content removal without giving links as to where the copyvio is :/ Maybe he should list it at WP:CP or take it the admin's noticeboard? Aranea Mortem (talk to me) 22:20, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

From the looks of the rest, the only real copy problems are in the policies tab. If I had to put money on it, I bet that the fully deleted pages are the same way. Any way to check that. It'd be cool to have all 132 reps on here. FrittataOhio (talk) 17:42, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- We cannot restore a page that has been deleted for copyvio. I can send send you a copy of the page(s) by e-mail if you e-mail me (link on this page) a list of the page names - there's no way I can know which deleted pages you refer to. From an e-mail text you would have to edit it on your PC (e.g. notepad) to remove the copyvio, and only then upload it. BTW - don't rush with the list, after tomorrow night (UK time!) I'm away on the narrowboat for two weeks - if it ever stops raining (I think we are in the remnants of Irene)! Ronhjones (Talk) 18:34, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2011 Belgian Grand Prix
The 2011 Belgian Grand Prix, formally the 2011 Formula 1 Shell Belgian Grand Prix, was a Formula One motor race that was held on 28 August 2011, at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium. It was the twelfth round of the 2011 Formula One season, and the 67th Belgian Grand Prix to be held. The race, contested over 44 laps, was won by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, the drivers' championship leader, after starting from pole position. Vettel's team-mate Mark Webber finished in second place, and Jenson Button completed the podium in third position for McLaren. As a consequence of the race, Vettel extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to 92 points over Webber. Fernando Alonso, fourth in the race, moved into third place in the championship, ten points behind Webber in third, and eight ahead of Button. In the World Constructors' Championship, Red Bull extended their championship lead to 131 points over McLaren, with Ferrari a further 64 points behind in third position. Hi Ron! I had just left a note here about the Anybody But Bush redirect, so I was a little surprised to see you deleted it! May I ask why? It was a common term in that election cycle, and I don't think Raul654 is normally in the habit of creating attack pages. 28bytes (talk) 22:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- I did not nominate it. It was flagged up as an attack page by another user. It does have negative tones, and as a redirect is unsourced. Ronhjones (Talk) 22:32, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- OK. Not a big deal, I just like to ask when an admin deletes something after I decline the CSD, in case there's something I missed. 28bytes (talk) 22:40, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for this. I want to ask only one thing. If you don't want it here answer in my talk page. How did you find it in two seconds???--46.246.128.90 (talk) 23:48, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Johannes von Rönge
I was undoing cut and paste moves done by people less knowlegeable about the subject. The autobiography clearly states the name as "von Rönge". Why are you participating in this, it seems unlike you? Please stop incorrectly moving the page! — Preceding unsigned comment added by FFroGG (talk • contribs) 00:08, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

- Johannes von Rönge was pasted on 12th Match 2010 and has the shortest history, so cannot be the correct page. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:14, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Edit war brewing in James P. Hoffa article.
As you may have noticed, there has been a lot of activity in the James P. Hoffa article after his Labor Day speech in Detroit. You already reverted an unexplained deletion. I had to revert two different unexplained deletions myself. All the deletions were from IP addresses. To nip an edit war in the bud, can you semiprotect this article? Thank you. Steelbeard1 (talk) 10:40, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- There does seem to have been a wave of editing and reverting, two weeks semi should let things stabilise. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:09, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Muñiz Air National Guard Base
There is a redirect from Muñiz Air National Guard Base to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. Although both are located in Puerto Rico, they are not the same thing. One is an airport named after the first democratically elected governor of Puerto Rico and the other is named after a USAF Lt Col Fighter Pilot who was killed in a plane crash. I just tried to take the redirect off but you changed it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.32.16.13 (talk) 21:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

- I use monobok skin, so I have 22 tabs at the top of this page, and 25 at the top of an image...! If you use monobook, you are quite welcome to copy any from my User:Ronhjones/monobook.js page - which would go to User:Bobherry/monobook.js...
- friendlytabs makes the first four tabs smaller - becomes "user, talk, edit, +".
- Qui - does the online, around, offline bit - see User:TheDJ/Qui (when I remember to reset it, sadly there is no automatic version!)
- Too many added scripts slows the page loads... There are more at WP:JS, most use the monobook skin as that was the original WP skin - I think it's now vector. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

What do i do after i get code?Bobherry (talk) 23:12, 8 September 2011 (UTC) Thanks
- It's explained at WP:JS - you just add the import script command to your script page - e.g.
importScript('User:Ioeth/friendlytabs.js');
- To try them on and off one can put // in front of it to temporary comment it out
- never forget the semicolon at the end of each line!
- Look at my User:Ronhjones/monobook.js, you can see which ones I'm using (anything after a // is a comment and is shown green)
- Your script page name depends on which skin you are using - I like the monobook - again WP:JS helps you to find the correct sub page - it won't yet exist until you create it.
- P.S. a lot of the scripts won't work with Internet Explorer. I use Firefox. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:34, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
LabLynx
Ron,
I posted the LabLynx page twice. I am the wikimaster and administrator from LIMSwiki, and my boss wants our LIMSwiki LabLynx page on wikipedia. I am also the creator of the LabLynx page on LIMSwiki. There is no copyright infringement. Please repost the page. Thanks, Marf29 (talk) 13:47, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- No. You cannot prove who you are to me - all editors appear equal. To use material from external web sites then one must follow the instructions at WP:DCM to either donate the copyright by sending an e-mail to a special address from a domain related to the web site, to obtain an OTRS ticket, or you alter your web site to remove any copyright notices, and add a suitable creative commons license on the web site (either CC-BY-SA 3.0, or CC-BY would do nicely) - ideally on all the pages - just like WP has at the bottom of each page. Once either of those situations has been done, then pages may be restored on application (getting an OTRS ticket will often cause the OTRS volunteer to ask for the page(s) to be restored). You may wish to note that once you donate the copyright, then it is possible for other companies to use that text on their website for any purpose, including commercial. You may wish to also note that writing about one's own company is very strongly discouraged - such pages often get quickly put up for deletion as spam, because the writer has not written the page from the neutral point of view that is required of all pages, due to their large conflict of interest; or the page might get heavily edited by other users to give it a more neutral feel, which sometimes upsets the original author - who cannot do anything about it! Ronhjones (Talk) 23:23, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Holidays!
You may have seen the banner at the top, if not then have a look. This is the look I'm expecting to see - File:Harlow Mill Lock.jpg (not the lock, that's in Essex, but the boat's the same one (and the same wife in a blue jacket...). I may still be about on Sat 10th, and after that will depend on if I can be asked to fire up the laptop and then hunt for an elusive phone signal well moderated by an all steel boat... Johannes von Ronge
Vegaswikian closed, and then at my request, reopened discussion of what title the Johannes von Ronge/Johannes von Rönge/Johannes Ronge article should have. Since I think the way we've been describing what we as individual editors see as the appropriate title, I am asking prior participants to !vote explicitly on each of the three options at Talk:Johannes von Ronge, hence this notice. I note that you did not really participate in discussions, but I want to be consistent in notifying all those involved. The article has also been listed at WP:RM. Hello, I recently submitted a article about Regina Louise and it was rejected because the editor saw that I took most of the information from Regina Louise's website. Because Regina Louise actually wrote everything on her website she gave me permission to take anything I needed from her website in order to make a Wiki page for her. Therefore, I wanted to know is there any way of being able to submit my article as it is? Thanks so much. --Adrian-lashay morris (talk) 17:36, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Need feedback concerning posting guidelines - REPLY REQUESTED/APPRECIATED!
Hi, I need feedback from a SYSTEM ADMIN. concerning posting guidelines. A user recently started a new section on the questionable labor practices of a large, well-known company under Discussion for the company's Wiki Page. The edit was promptly undone by another user on the grounds that this page was NOT a general forum, even though most of the other posts there were less-related. I am suspiscious that this is an attempt to suppress any negative discussion by those who are sympathetic to the company. The co. in question has been in the hotseat w/the media as of late. I wouldn't be surprised if they were agents of the company, since they're very powereful and have used every means possible to quell public desent. My opinion is that the truth ought to be discussed, whether positive or negative. Does this person have a right to start a thread about the co.'s questionable labor practices there. Do you think there's a possibility that there may be an agent working on behalf of the company lurking about on WP? Thanks, Gangnam (talk) 17:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

New Balance Games
Hi,
I went to create an article with this title, and found that you had recently deleted one. I'm looking at an annual high school invitational track meet in New York City. If what you deleted was an article about something else, I'd like to create this one, if it is okay. If the article you deleted was about this event, could you explain to me why it was deleted? I don't understand "R3" - but there's a lot about deletion I don't know. Jd2718 (talk) 22:59, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Ronhjones is on vacation, but I can tell you that R3 means that the previous (deleted) page redirected to another implausibly, such as cat redirecting to dog. It sounds like you want to create something different. Make sure to read wp:notable to see if it warrants inclusion. On a quick google search, it looks like there are sufficient reliable sources, including nytimes and espn. Chris857 (talk) 23:28, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- It was "#redirect Boston Indoor Games" - then the author realised the mistake and asked for deletion (delete - redirect target is incorrect as competitions are not the same - just similarly named). Ronhjones (Talk) 23:34, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll look carefully, first, as New Balance seems to have expanded the number of places, venues, and events it lends its name to. Jd2718 (talk) 23:34, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Just as a note, I've blocked Samofi (talk · contribs) per the report at ANEW here. I elected not to reinstate the indefinite block you released him from, but would welcome review if you feel like diving into that morass of a dispute. Kuru (talk) 14:42, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- The past reason for his block was partly down to poor English and socking. It appeared that he had learned his lesson on those two issues, so was unblocked. However, he obviously totally forgot my summary You will advised that there will be many eyes on your future edits - maybe from some on this page, so be sure to always try to follow the policies - when in doubt, don't edit, ask first - nothing here needs to be done immediately, maybe this rather short block will act as a wake up call - I'm not holding my breath... I think Politics, Religion, and Nationality causes more wars here than any others! Also, I think I will leave Hungarians alone - I gave User:Iaaasi a second chance - that was also futile.
