STBotI is too fast

Since I prefer to add fair use rationale to the "Licensing" section on an image description page, I usually upload the image first, and then edit the Licensing section (in Special:Upload, it is impossible to edit the Licensing section). However, on Image:Asian Games logo.svg, STBotI beat me to the edit, and put on a "no rationale" tag on it in just 2 minutes. Could you make it run slightly slower (like 5 minutes) or put me on its whitelist, whichever is more convenient for you? Thanks. -- King of 18:05, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added you to the image bot's whitelist. --ST47Talk·Desk 18:14, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is saying that I need a copyright tag for my own work. If I believe I think that you can upload an image with no copyright license if it is your own work!!!! Chrismaster1 14:57, 10 August 2007

Why?

I just uploaded the MLS eastern and western conference logos. Why does this crap about "rationale" keep popping up, if I list them as logos? HELP! (mlseast.gif and mlswest.gif) Revzzz 16:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

An anonymous user had written hello on my user page. You came in and deleted it. Just wondering how you knew / why you did so. Just curious....... hjuk 08:17, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look at his contribs: He'd been spamming about 20 talk pages. --ST47Talk·Desk 10:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't

I invited you to join WikiProject Debating and you have the right to simply ignore my invitation. Choice is yours, whether you wanna join or not. But you don't have the right to call others activity as SPAM. For your kind information, I didn't spam on random user pages. I invited those people who are involved in debate related articles. I am trying to gather them together to create a working group in order to improve quality of those articles. Unfortunately you were a bad choice for that group. Niaz bd 15:45, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Your bot left a comment on my talk page about this image, saying there was no fair use rationale. I uploaded the image to Image:1940-1961 helmet.png and accidentally re-named it because the title was misleading. So the image that was tagged can be deleted right now. Ksy92003(talk) 20:42, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted the unused image. Thanks, --ST47Talk·Desk 21:39, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you; I'm sorry to bother you with my mistake. Thank you for cleaning up my mess :) Ksy92003(talk) 21:41, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bug in AccReqBot

Hi, I've noticed a bug in AccReqBot (talk · contribs). When a header is missing from a request and that request has been tagged as This username has been created. Created, welcome to Wikipedia! (e.g. here where Superhearts (talk · contribs · account creation) has been created), the bot then archives the request above it [1] then, a few minutes later, the one above that [2] and so on until the bot edits are reverted and the correct header is added back in. Would it be possible to fix this or to perhaps make the bot ignore requests where the {{account request}} templates does not have a corresponding header above it, since as malformed requests, they would need human intervention to be archived properly. Tra (Talk) 14:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've made a change to ignore any section with two {{ACC}} tags. --ST47Talk·Desk 14:29, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks (I presume you mean {{account request}} tags), hopefully that should stop the problem. Tra (Talk) 14:33, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STBotI vs. fu rationale template

Your bot (which is great) catches new images that does not have fair use rationale on it. However, it doesn't seems to be satisfy when all relevant rational is provided in a fair use template box, such as the one for logo. Is the bot looking for more, or more a technical issue? KTC 21:09, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, those little tags are not sufficient. See WP:FURG for more information :) --ST47Talk·Desk 21:15, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When I said fair use template box, I meant the rationale one, not just the license selection one.
"An appropriate copyright tag..." - So we have something like {{Non-free logo}} which comes with license selection on upload.
"A detailed use rationale...." - Here I'm talking about something like {{logo fur}}. -- KTC 21:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Policy is unclear on templated rationales, so I choose to err on the side of caution. I'll look into a way to allow this sort of template to pass through unharmed. --ST47Talk·Desk 00:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think User:Betacommand has figured out a way, in case that helps. There are several different templates in use for non-free use rationales. Wikidemo 02:36, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trying To Discern An Okay French Website To Take A Movie Cover From

I'm trying to help start Mon fils à moi. Is [3] acceptable? (And my apologies if you don't speak French.) I don't speak French either. :P -WarthogDemon 00:28, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That website isn't free, so you'd have to upload it with a fair use rationale, but you probably won't find a free image. --ST47Talk·Desk 00:35, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about Rotten Tomatoes? Does it have a French version somewhere? (As that place and imdb.com is where I go for movie covers. Neither the english imdb nor Rotten Tomatoes seem to have them though. -WarthogDemon 00:38, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a clue, I don't speak french. --ST47Talk·Desk 00:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Use outside of mainspace

Hello, I was wondering why you removed the Achtung Baby cover from the WikiProject newsletter. Your edit summary said "FU outside of mainspace", what does that mean? Thanks, Neranei talk 15:17, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It means a fair use image was used outside of the mainspace. See WP:NFC. --ST47Talk·Desk 15:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thanks! Neranei talk 17:08, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nogallery

Hi, why did you added the NOGALLERY to the image subcategory starters. These categories were one of the reasons Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria exemptions was created. Personally I find it much easier to already see what the image is before going to the image page. I already reverted it once so won't do it again. :) See also Category talk:Candidates for speedy deletion#NOGALLERY on image categories. Garion96 (talk) 16:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, with the images there it takes longer to load, and it's easier to click them with only link names there, because there are more on a page and you don't have to scroll to get a good amount. --ST47Talk·Desk 17:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anetode's idea, to include a prominent link to a prior revision that features galleries. In a long existing category that would be easy but I have no idea how to do it in a category created every day. Do you have any idea? Since I still really don't like it. Garion96 (talk) 17:36, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, what about the bot that creates them? The operator could set it up to do that. --ST47Talk·Desk 17:39, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale tagging

Hi, your bot has tagged Image:Migros logo new.gif for lack of fair use rationale about 1 minute after it was uploaded. While I applaud its efficiency, would it not make sense to wait a little bit more, just enough time so that the rationale can be written ? Of course, removing the message is not too difficult, but it is still annoying to have to resolve an edit conflict that could have been avoided easily. Thanks, Schutz 17:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MGM Grand Detroit Edits...

I don't understand why you changed the date for the opening from November 1st to October 2nd when the referenced article clearly states the permanent casino will open on November 1st because that is when they are starting to accept reservations for, Also why did you usurp the proceedure of put a VfD or whatever it is called now so that there can be a consensus on whether it should be kept or deleted, I understand that you are an admin but you can't just delete an image without leaving some sort of explanation and reason for the deletion in the MGM Grand Detroit and the image's talk pages first. Robot image tagging template suggestion

Hi, I think your bot is doing a great thing by catching people immediately when they upload an image without a license tag or use rationale. The faster you can catch people the less likely they are to let a noncompliant image remain, or to become upset if it is deleted. If they upload then add a rationale a few minutes later, no harm done. One suggestion by way of friendliness and customer service: perhaps when you catch images right after upload you would consider using a modified template that is less official looking and bureaucratic, more in the line of "perhaps you forgot" than the red-boxed warning. You can say the same thing, but it could help people feel welcome, especially newbies who don't understand the image policies yet. Thx, Wikidemo 02:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the thing we put on the userpage isn't really the annoying red thing, and I'd hope that's the one they'd see. Regarding the templates on images, I'll make some. --ST47Talk·Desk 12:14, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Calumet, Colorado

After about an hour of looking for information/sources, I've come up with the article Calumet, Colorado and am wondering if it's suitable for Wikipedia (as it was a rather small ghost town). -WarthogDemon 23:10, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks popular from a google search. Anyway, I think there's a policy that says even villages can have articles, so you're good. --ST47Talk·Desk 23:22, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page deleting

User:Roremaster has moved article Dalmatian anti-Serb riots of May 1991 on Dalmatian Serb pogrom of May 1991 (it is not possible to speak about pogrom because nobody is killed or injured). Ti block users return article back he has writen data on page and then deleted this data so normal user is not having possibility to return article. Because of that I ask you to delete article Dalmatian anti-Serb riots of May 1991 so that article can be returned on that page (if you look history of that page you will understand) My second question is can you block user:Roremaster because of hate editing (he has edited only 3 articles with strong Croatophobia) and because he is sockpuppet of user:Roramaster (and somebody else but who ?). -Rjecina 23:43, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you check your bot?

I uploaded an image today and I tagged it as "PD-USGov" when I uploaded it but I got a message immediately from your bot that I did something wrong. What did I do wrong or is there something wrong with your bot? Reservoirhill 23:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look into it, but you can ignore the message. --ST47Talk·Desk 23:57, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was the one who removed the "song performers" section from the 3 Feet High and Rising article (as well as cleaned up the infobox format). Helperbot Code Update

Good morning! I just wanted to let you know that I've updated the HBC AIV Helperbot source with version 2.0.8, and you will want to update your bot at your convenience. Hi! I've checked, and the image will be deleted in 4 days unless someone adds a non-free image use rationale. --ST47Talk·Desk 11:23, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your excellent bot

Slightly unusual situation, in that I nominated for speedy deletion a category that I created some months ago, but which has now been emptied (I suspect that the article(s) in it were deleted for lack of notability). Your excellent bot then sprang into action, and warned me that another user had tagged the category for deletion - which was inaccurate and unnecessary. Not that I'm greatly bothered, but would it be worth saving the bot's energy in such circumstances by stopping it from warning the creator of the category when the creator is the one tagging it for deletion? Just a thought. Regards, BencherliteTalk 10:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up: I removed the warning from my talk page as unnecessary, and the bot replaced it. I would have thought that there is no need for the bot to issue the same warning twice. Regards, BencherliteTalk 10:13, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And again. BencherliteTalk 10:15, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've modified it so that if the creator is also the most recent editor, it will skip the page, assuming that the creator saw the warning. --ST47Talk·Desk 12:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent work. BencherliteTalk 19:25, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retraction of warning

I am dealing with an OTRS ticket concerning your accusation on User talk:86.130.130.101 that an IP address made a personal attack. The user whose page was edited does not understand why this IP address is being accused of making a personal attack when commenting that their command of English is not excellent but they still manage to contribute to Wikipedia.

If you do not agree upon review of the IP's edits that it was inappropriate to issue the warning, please explain on User talk:Marktreut why what appears to be an edit that should have gone on a talk page was a personal attack. The OTRS ticket number for this issue is 2007081910006904, and was raised by Mark. --Brianmc 12:11, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Hooker (Connecticut court reporter)

I think the deletion of an article I started was done prematurely, John Hooker (Connecticut court reporter). I just created the article and was planning to add additional information but no sooner than I created it, it was deleted. This particular person was very active with the women's suffrage movement. He wrote a few books as well. He may not meet the criteria for notability and I would have no objection but I am curious as to the quickness of the article being tagged and then deleted. He was the brother-in-law of Harriet Beecher Stowe and although that in itself does not make him notable. It should be enough to allow for more time to research. Why is the bot called "CSDWarnBot"? CSD = Criteria for Speedy Deletion. This bot doesn't warn anyone about any "criteria", it warns people about speedy deletion taggings. An editor has asked for a deletion review of bolognaola. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Silverbaxent 20:48, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I was doing this thing right. Your number poped up as the admin. that deleted my entry. I would like some help if you could, in finding the right person to contact about Bolognaola. I would like to have it un-deleted or at least answers why it can'y be a part of this site.

Fair use rationale tagging

Hello, you have not replied to this comment I made a few days ago, but your bot again tagged an image one minute after it was uploaded, and did not leave me any time to add the fair use rationale (5 minutes later, way too late). Is there any way to improve this behaviour ? Waiting 10 minutes or so before tagging the image would seem reasonable to me. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Schutz 21:18, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I've said in at least two other topics, it is easy enough to add a rationale at the upload page. I've added you to the upload reporting bot's whitelist. --ST47Talk·Desk 21:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, haven't looked at all other topics in your talk/archives (although I see now that some people like the fact that the bot tags articles so quicly after upload). The upload page does not have a "preview" button, which is the reason why I would usually just pick a licence in the drop-box and complete things after upload (although this particular case was special, since I was reuploading an already existing image). Thanks, Schutz 21:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm quite new to this and so I was wondering if you could check whether my rationale is okay? [6]. Thanks, GoonersWCCF —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 11:40, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Seljuqs

Hi. You have protected the Seljuq dynasty article. Thanks for that. However, there is a small mistake incorporated in the introduction. I am sure that a new edit war will start right after the article is unblocked again, so I want you to change that small mistake. The introduction says "... They are the ethnic ancestors of the Western Turks ...". While this is promoted in Turkish nationalist circles, it is a really a rediculous claim, since the Seljuqs were one family, and they cannot be the ancestors of more than 80 million people today. That's like claiming that "the Merovingians are the ethnic ancestors of the modern French people" or that the "Habsburgs are the ethnic ancestors of modern Austrian and German people". The correct sentence was "... They are the regarded as the cultural ancestors of the Western Turks ...". The correct text was changed by an IP on July 27th. The same IP also deleted various scholarly sources from the text and his edits have a strong Turkish nationalist bias. The IP (User:85.178.186.143) is probably the anonymous account of User:Q.Fānasī, whose account was only created to edit the Seljuq dynasty page: his contributions. Thank you. -82.83.149.154 12:43, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot change the article's text while it is protected except to correct blatant typos and perform maintenance. If you have consensus, you can use the {{editprotected}} template on the talk page. --ST47Talk·Desk 13:47, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A consensus is not needed, because the earlier version was written in the article much earlier and was undisputed. For example, see this version from July 25th 2006 (more than a year ago). It was only the IP who changed this, and it seems that nobody noticed this obviously wrong claim. In this case, his edit is rather vandalism. -82.83.149.154 15:35, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since it's protected, there is no way to dispute an addition, and I'm not going to do it unilaterally. Get a consensus, or find another admin. --ST47Talk·Desk 16:03, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning for image Helenarussell.jp

I removed the warning because I put in the correct copyright tag. Many thanks for the warning, I used the setup wizard for uploading (the first time I have done so) and it didn't tag the image. I think I will use the manual method in future. Does this image meet with your approval now? Douglasnicol 20:03, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging

Why is STBotI putting a template mentioning non-free content on images that lack a copyright tag, such as [7]? Applying the standard "no source" and "no license" tags would make more sense, since those describe what's actually wrong with the image. --Carnildo 18:24, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better? --ST47Talk·Desk 18:30, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Now maybe people will be able to tell what needs fixing. --Carnildo 06:29, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This happens to all of my articles. So I made a wiki. And I have nothing else to add. You see, all my articles get deleted because no one is actually helping the article expand. A simple visit to the wiki will tell you a bit more about it. I can never come up with good info to post in wikipedia, so I post what I can. But "what I can" isn't enough, apparently. I'm not an adult like most wikipedians, I don't have a mind to create an FA, yet. As much as it will get deleted soon, I need someone to expand the article. I need someone to make "what they can" because "what they can" is enough. "What I can" isn't. Please respond on my talk page. Coastergeekperson04 07:34, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is being deleted not because there isn't information, but because it isn't notable enough to meet our inclusion standards - have a look at that page, maybe it will help. --ST47Talk·Desk 10:26, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

more pertinent information, please

Thank you for writing CSDWarnBot. I just received a warning that a redirect was speedily deleted. I don't know who gets this warning; if the bot warns the creator then I apparently must have created the redirect. I try to create only meaningful redirects to encyclopedic articles, so a message like this naturally raises a red flag for me.

Unfortunately, as is in the nature of things, the object of the warning has been deleted already so I can't see what it was that I did, and where the redirect linked to. Therefore, it would be a big help if the bot reported the name of the linked article. It also would be helpful if it told me why I am getting the message.

If you're concerned about the message getting too long, there is a lot of text that could be cut, such as the quadruple link to the deleted article, and the double (indirect) link to CSD. IMHO it also isn't necessary to write the {{hangon}} instructions since they should already be on the nominated page and are of no use anymore once the page has been deleted. (Besides, they are on CSD, too.) — Sebastian 20:28, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, it was just a redirect to an alternate capitalization. I'll consider adding some more information in. --ST47Talk·Desk 20:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam

Thanks for the note. I would very much appreciate your advice on the issue. I have been announcing the new task force to editors whom it might interest (e.g. editors active on pages treating the same kind of public/private sector relationships the task force deals with). I certainly don't want to circulate a disruptive message; at the same time, I feel entitled to reach out to other editors. Can you suggest a safe policy for me? I read wp:canvassing and wp:spam and did not think that my task force message fell under either category. Cyrusc 17:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Wheels

You've used a 'bot' or some other technical method I don't understand to zap an item on an effort titled Santa Wheels within 12 hours of it's creation. I followed the instructions to add the request to discuss rather than simply delete but now all of the article information is completely gone.

I've read a good deal of the information regarding how to go about this but either don't understand many of the technical terms or cannot get them to work as described.

I would appreciate the return of the information I entered and the opportunity to discuss the noteworthy aspects of this article. Santa Wheels is a very unique effort which brings together both charitable and for profit entities to provide gifts and encouragement to children who otherwise would recieve little or nothing for christmas. The effort uses private funds and has been covered in several local level media outlets including newspaper and television.

It is applicable, but I'm not sure how it's enforced for SVGs. --ST47Talk·Desk 18:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is no limit to the resolution of an SVG, I could blow it up to the size of a football field and not lose quality. PNGs don't have that same ability. WP:LOGO also says to avoid SVG format of copyrighted logos and PNG is preferable. --Holderca1 19:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I consider ANY unwanted changes to the userspace with my name (since I can't say "my userspace") to be vandalism. Vandlism is against WIkipedia POLICY - it's not a guideline, so how did I bereka my own rules?? Idiot. I know we didn't start off on the right foot today, but I did aplogize for it. Yet you insisted on redacting my userspace, like I was a common vandal, wtihout even the courtesy to appraoch me first liek a real adult would. If the wiki-break notice is a personal attack on my paer, then I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. I've had it today with people protecting the real vandals and abusers, then going after me like I'm worse than the vandals. Well, I've had it with idoits like you. And you really are stupid for nominating the largest airlines list. THere, now THAT was a REAL personal attack. GO get me blocked if you wish, but I'm gone from WIkipedia anyway. Yeah, I got that far, and blocked the IP ;) --ST47Talk·Desk 00:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not stupid enough to use an IP to leave messages like that, and then sign my name. I have a wiki-stalker, and this is its idea of getting back at me for reverting its vandalism. It has used multiple, unrelated IPs thus far, and never the same one twice, so blocking that IP would be useless. Sorry, but there's nothing anyone can do about my stalker short of blocking all IPs, and that AIN'T gonna happen as long as Jimbo Wales runs Wiki. Sorry you got caught in this, but there's nothing I can do to stop it. - BillCJ 00:55, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the above was an attempt to impersonate BillCJ. Please run the user contrib log for BillCJ for 03:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC) and see for yourself. BTW, you may want to consider an unblock on 68.245.214.59. It appears that this user was just forwarding content for your review.68.244.106.253 01:06, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that edit. But what purpose (aside from trolling) is served by splattering it on other people's pages? And would it be a mere coincidence that both you and the IP who splattered it have IP numbers belonging to Sprint? -- Hoary 04:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, I did write that rant, but I have also apologized to the recipient, and he has accepted it. Also for the record, other items have been posted on user talk pages by IPs in the same pattern above, before the rant was written, most of them claiming my edits to be vandalism. Interesting, huh? - BillCJ 04:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I wondered if you'd be willing to look over this for me. Something strikes me as not quite right about this, but it's hard to fully put my finger on it. I'm trying to WP:AGF but it's been getting increasingly difficult. The history: Anna Wilding was created in pretty poor condition, and these users kept removing {{copyedit}} and {{fact}} tags. Eventually, through discussion on the talk page, they agreed to leave the {{copyedit}} tag, and provide references in the article. It seemed that it was all taken care of. There was even a free-license image added to the article by someone else! Now, there seem to be problems again, they are adding what appear to be WP:VIO images, claiming that they have permission from Anna Wilding herself. On her talk page they say

If you need to clarify that I have the ownership of these images, please send an email to Anna Wilding's representatives at "carpedieminv@yahoo.com" which is the official email of Anna Wilding and her company Carpe Diem Films. Tonyx123 15:56, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, I don't believe for a minute that that's their official email, especially as simple investigation reveals it not be be so [10]. Furthermore, while each of those users has removed stuff discussing the issues over this article from their own talk pages, one of them removed such information from the other's page today [11]. I strongly suspect that he forgot to log out of one account and into the other. I would not be surprised if an IP address check were made that both would come from 24.189.29.208 I'm not sure that there's enough evidence to call sockpuppetry, as their... contributions... seem to be limited to the single article. You blocked this IP address as a Tor node; the user Comperr says he has disabled the node for access to Wikipedia. I'm not sure how we can verify something like that. Since you're the one who blocked the IP, I figure you might know a thing or two about Tor and might know how to verify this, or be willing to work out something with the user. Thanks. Indeed, I've re-reviewed the exit policy, and all the necessary ports are closed - proxy unblocked :) --ST47Talk·Desk 20:18, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I've notified the user. Mangojuicetalk 20:25, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot accidentally blanking talk page?

I'm not sure your bot is supposed to be doing this. Thanks. Katr67 19:42, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probably a bad GET, I'll fix it. --ST47Talk·Desk 20:15, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OrphanBot used to do that: it seems to happen about one edit in 20,000 or so. My best guess as to what causes it is MediaWiki returning an empty edit box. --Carnildo 03:39, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage

Sorry you didn't like the changes I made, I thought it made the page flow better, with your theme, colors, etc., and you invited anyone to improve it, so I thought I'd give it a touch-up. I've done other users' userpages, so figured I would spruce yours up. My apologies. ArielGold 23:45, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do like it - I didn't revert you, I just re-centered everything, and removed some clutter that I had added long ago :) --ST47Talk·Desk 23:47, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hrmmm, it removed the changes I added (The green box around your info that matched all your other boxes.) Odd. Oh well, I'm glad you didn't think I was a vandal! ArielGold 00:14, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

confused by bot

Hey I was told by your bot a redirect on Elementeo was going to be speedily deleted? Did the bot mean Educational Game was up for deletion? THanks. Mathiastck 03:44, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect was up for deletion, but it was kept, so you can disregard the notice ;) --ST47Talk·Desk 11:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exempting me from the bot

As a bureaucrat I do a lot of renames which involves automatically making redirects from one username to another. If the renamed user deletes a page in their userspace I'll get a bot warning (I've had two now!). As I've renamed more than 300 people (some with many many pages in their userspace) I'm worried about being swamped! I don't need to know about these! Thanks. Secretlondon 08:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear. Well, The bot is setup to only have one or two warnings on your page at a time, and it shouldn't bug you (anymore) if you're the one that started the page. I'll set up an exempt list anyway :) --ST47Talk·Desk 11:06, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Fair use" ribbon

How do you get the "fair use" ribbon on your userpage? It's cool.--Rambutan (talk) 10:56, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's that {{User:Mecu/NoFU}} thingy ;) --ST47Talk·Desk 11:10, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks.--Rambutan (talk) 11:12, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ST47, this bot may be malfunctioning. Example: User talk:85.138.0.92 was warned about a CSD for article Bill Sienkiewicz, although they were not the "creator". Please look in to this. Additionally, what brought me to looking in to this is that it may not really even be appropriate to inform anonymous users about potential CSD's, often times it's just vandalism. In case you are using a bot to remove deleted images from articles, you should note that the bot cannot stop at the first ]], since there may be links inside the image description. See an example of this error.

Possibly invalid speedy deletion

I noticed that you deleted Cristian Ávila Uruburok. CSD A2 only applies to articles that exist in another Wikipedia. Could you please tell me which Wikipedia you found it in? If it is in no other Wikipedia, CSD A2 does not apply, and the procedure at WP:PNT must be followed instead, and the article needs to be restored so that people who can translate it can have a go at it. I just finished listing it there. Jesse Viviano 15:53, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish content should not belong in the article namespace, but instead in a user's subpage while they translate the content. If you'd like, I can move the content to your userspace so you can work on it? --ST47Talk·Desk 15:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot translate it because I do not speak Spanish, so I do not want this in my user space. Please propose a new policy at the village pump if you want to change the way foreign language aricles are dealt with on the English Wikipedia. As for now, the people at WP:PNT generally leave the article in the main space while translating it. I will go ahead and restore it because I already notified the people at WP:PNT to let them deal with it. They can the decide to translate it, list it for AFD, or mark it for speedy deletion due to a copyright infringement or no assertion of notability (if either criteria applies). Jesse Viviano 16:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The people at WP:PNT stated that this article had no notability assertions, so I re-deleted it. Jesse Viviano 16:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

why on earth did you delete my sandbox?

i had several hours of effort invested there. i was horrified to see that someone had marked it for speedy deletion -- it's a sandbox! -- so i tagged it with "hangon."

but you deleted it anyway!

I HAD SEVERAL HOURS OF EFFORT INVESTED THERE in tracking down citations, reorganizing paragraphs, etc. i was almost done, and ready to place the content back on the page from which i had extracted it ...

NOW WHAT? i have to start over?

I HAD SEVERAL HOURS OF EFFORT INVESTED THERE

are you mad? why on earth did you delete my sandbox?!? Peterhoneyman 16:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've userfied the sandbox for you. Jesse Viviano 16:16, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
whew, thank you. i guess (red face) i left a slash out. (i'm kinda new 'round here.) anyway ... thanks! \(^_^)/ Peterhoneyman 16:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sandboxes do not belong in the main namespace. The main namespace is for articles. Presumably, Jesse put it in your userspace where it belongs. When you move it to the main NS, please use an appropriate name. --ST47Talk·Desk 17:20, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
thanks. actually, i knew that, but missed a slash when i named it. Peterhoneyman 17:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just noticed you deleted the above image. The delete log states (I6) as the reason which I believe is "Missing non-free media rationale." As you can see from the discussion on my talk page here I was notified of the image being tagged as such on 26 July and added a FU rationale the same day. I am therefore slightly confused as to why the image was deleted but I assume it was done by mistake. Would it be possible to restore the image? AlexJ 00:32, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the image, please ensure that it's used on an article somewhere to prevent tagging as orphaned. Thanks, --ST47Talk·Desk 01:09, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion, Summit Magazine article

Hi

Noticed you've deleted article on Summit Magazine. It's an established and known UK magazine for over ten years, so this wasn't a promotional post. See existing entries on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outside_Magazine. And it wasn't half as promotional as say, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fhm. Can you reinstate? Many thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex.messenger (talkcontribs) 09:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't assert notability, and additionally, it's only 3 lines long. I'd prefer that you take it to WP:DRV, where others can decide, but you may want to get some more sources and information before you do so. --ST47Talk·Desk 11:25, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion, Skiworld

Hi there,

just wondered why you deleted the article on Skiworld? They are a long established and notable independent tour operator in the UK, much in the same way as this company: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomson_Holidays . There was no promotional content in it. The article was a little on the small side, but I was planning on adding to it. Could you reinstate it please? Cheers, Asmith123 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asmith123 (talkcontribs) 11:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't assert notability, and is promotional - WP:DRV is that way. --ST47Talk·Desk 12:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Hi, would you mind deleting Andrew moris and blocking the author Andrew moris due to vandalism. Seems to be vandalism only account. Auroranorth 13:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the user you recently blocked (User:Indexehwp) is misusing his ability to edit his talk page. Maybe we should request protection? Auroranorth 13:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've blocked the first guy,
As for Indexehwp, I meant to keep an eye on him, but got sidetracked. I've protected the page and removed the misused template.

Deletion Policy

Hello, ST47. Please tell me what I should do to make an article acceptable. I have created an article, PhysicsCorp, and I want to know, if it's not too much trouble, how to make my article acceptable. Thank you, Physicscience 18:51, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest you ask User:WODUP, however it seems that he deleted it because the business isn't notable. --ST47Talk·Desk 19:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "Say NO to Fair Use" on the Right.

How did you do that "Say NO to Fair Use" on the right? And how did it stay only on the bottom right of the computer screen? --  PNiddy  Go!  02:55, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did CSDWarnBot do this?

I didn't create the page - I don't even remember editing (may have placed an sd tag). Seemed to have informed the wrong user - maybe something you should look into. Cheers, --Bentalk 05:15, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, you did:
  • 01:39, January 26, 2007 . . Bennyboyz3000 (Talk | contribs | block) (moved Misery / Also known as MyMisery to Misery (band): Title is inappropriate, will be placing redirect on MyMisery page to the "Misery" article)
I'm in the process of changing that bot, however, and I'll include an override. In fact, if you want to opt-out, you can add the string 'User:CSDWarnBot' inside an HTML comment. --ST47Talk·Desk 10:29, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

void revisions

Hi, could you please stop doing such void changes as ones at http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User:ST47/BAGLU&action=history ? Every edit like that ends up in many many places, and has zero value to anyone. Thanks. Domas Mituzas 07:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
