Your departure
What a shame. I know you've been dealing with at least a couple of very frustrating matters lately (the Montreal streets and landmarks templates), so I can imagine why you are discouraged. I really do hope that you reconsider. Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:25, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, if you find Wikipedia too frustrating at the moment, we could really use your help over at the Commons, esp. helping bring some order to the Montreal page and category. I spent a lot of time cleaning up the Toronto page and cat, but simply don't have enough familiarity with Montreal to try and do the same there. Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- BTW again, User:Kanabekobaton was eventually blocked for 3RR. Skeezix1000 (talk) 11:29, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Already have, thanks. Anyway, the nomination is based on wp:OC.--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 01:22, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I hope this and this are not signs that I offended you. It was certainly not my intention and I have respect for your work here. I also do not see any point to the category but do not feel strongly enough to make a suggestion there. DoubleBlue (talk) 02:34, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

In your rewriting of the article, please do not confuse nobility for notability. The two are quite different, and an organization that works towards the noblest of goals will still get its Wikipedia article deleted if it does not meet our notability criteria. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 17:41, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm well aware of Wikipedia's notability criteria, thank you. The other editor has been adding copyright vio material and I'm going to place a warning on his/her talk page to rewrite, asap. If he does not, I will stop my efforts to save this article. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:44, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
You declined speedy on this because "incorrectly listed in "entity" category". A person is an "entity" so G11 applies to articles that promote people as well as companies etc. This one reads like it was prepared by a PR guy. Please reconsider. – ukexpat (talk) 18:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Nope. Moreover, I don't see anything overtly promotional in tone. Reads like a pretty straightforward bio article to me. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:40, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, there was that one para. on his achievements that was spammy. I cut it and moved his personal Web site to EL. I think it's acceptable now. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:46, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Curse
The pattern seems to be notable whether or not calling it a "curse" is established enough to be a good title. So I think it's a keep, and at worst requires a retitle. I wouldn't have any idea what to call the article, so I think the present title is okay. :) Happy New Year! ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:00, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Funny, as I got your message I was in the process of changing my vote. I 100% agree. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 21:02, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words... Although I didn't actually write the text, I made sure that the entry was as precise as possible with all references available. I maybe missed a CFD or something, or I guess this maybe is a new category....I've pondered a similar issue re Talk:Native American mythology and the associated category (there is no First Nations mythology) article, and aside from having reservations about "mythology" (and even more about "spirituality" and "religion") I'm of a mind to query whether the singular form of a lot of these terms is viable, i.e. there's more than one indigenous culture in North America; or is it that Wikipedia categories are usually given in singular forms? In either case as with Category:Native American mythology and the associated article, I'm thinking that for one thing a regional "rider" to the title as in "of North America" or "of the Americas" is kinda needed, unless the intent of Category:Indigenous culture is meant to be global, although it seems to have a context derived from the North American aboriginal/indigenous polity/political culture....one of my writer friends, who writes on native issues, has told me that there are two 'stripes' of activists, one who prefer "indigenous" and others who prefer "aboriginal". But other than the regional qualificatino the post-merger name-change of Native American mytholgoy+First Nations mythology should seem to need to be "Mythologies of the indigenous peoples of North America", - in the plural, as t here is no one corpus of mythology (ditto culture), and a phrase like "Indigenous mythologies of North America" could include Mormonism and other non-aboriginal contexts. Ditt owith "indigenous cultures" - e.g. jazz culture, surf culture etc....I know that sounds specious but people often invoke specious reasons to use categories....just some thoughts, not quibbling, but woudl appreciate your input/thoughts on Talk:Native American mythology; my main intent is to avoid the artificial separation in terminologies cause by the Canada-US border, and the US-Mexico border as well; Americans tend to presume that their usage "Native American" is OK to use for Mexican indigenos....and for Canadian FNs/ it's when cross-border cultures/societies/languages and even tribal organizations/governments have to have both "First Nations governments" and "Native American governments" categories that the tities seem obviously in need of a merger (e.g. the Haida, Tlingit, Tsimshian, Okanagan, Blackfoot, Mohawk etc etc. We may ahve drawn a border and different terminologies result; but the redundancy has bguged me for a while, as well as the tendency by American editors to put "Native American" categories on groups that are entirely within Canada (or Mexico)....Skookum1 (talk) 17:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Mohawk nation....
PS nothing you're in Montreal, are you brave enough to try and separate Mohawk nation into "Mohawk Nation" (for the government) and "Mohawk people" (for the ethnography/history) - I've been wary of it, feels like a potentially POV "bloodbath" if attempted....Skookum1 (talk) 17:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Documentary films +hotcat
Hi again! I see you're doing lots of hard work adding categories to documentary films. I'm not too familar with Hotcat, so I'm not sure how it works. It seems that you removed the parent category Category:Documentary films and add a sub-cat based on the documentaries topic (eg: Category:Documentaries about cities). Can it also add which country the documentary film is from as well - such as Category:American documentary films? Keep up the good work! Lugnuts (talk) 07:55, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I can see it will be useful to depopulate Category:Documentary films. I think it best to err on the side of more than one subcategory: The River (1938 film) is much more of interest to classical music fans than farmers, but it also belongs alongside Trouble the Water and When the Levees Broke.
- btw, the relationship of Category:Documentary films to Category:Documentaries is a little confusing; the former has Category:Documentary television films as a subcat while the latter contains the woefully underpopulated Category:Black and white documentaries. AIV reports declined
Thank you for your recent reports to AIV. However I have declined to block either Bkitty17 (talk · contribs) or Vilas18in (talk · contribs) because neither had been sufficiently warned. As noted at the top of the AIV page, "the user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop," which typically means three to four levels of escalating warnings. While Bkitty17 had received only one warning (which he apparently listened to, as he stopped creating vanity pages), Vilas18in had not been warned at all. When making block requests at AIV in the future, please be sure that your reports meet all three of the required criteria. Thanks again for your help in keep Wikipedia clear of vandalism. Kralizec! Per your request, after reviewing your reverts, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback may be removed at any time.
If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! re: For Those Who Will Follow
Hi Shawn. Nice work on the expansion of this article. I've no objection to de-linking the cast. I automate the creation of the cast section to auto-wikilink all the cast for any articles. Regarding the name, I did notice it had several English-language names, and I was following the guidelines at Use English and Naming Conventions - Films to have the article in English, with the French title as a re-direct. I think the example given at the latter is about The Seventh Seal. This article came about from my work of going through all the Cannes Film Festivals. Cheers! Yes, I was Moloch05 I think but can't seem to log on to that anymore. Can't find any documentation on it, but wonder if old user names are deleted? Probably my synapses are deleted come to think of it. As for the AfD edit wars they were worse back then on I/P and other issues (Iraq was a nightmare) but except for online games and rock bands it didn't spill over into TV and Film so much. Or maybe the Peter Jukes page is part of another more politicised war. Looking at the person who nominated that page for deletion it seems he came direct from Motley Moose to one of its notable bloggers. I know notability is not inherited but an attempt to disinherit a political blog by attacking BPLs seems a bit rich.
BTW I'm a subscriber to the New Yorker. Haven't tried it yet but I might be able to retrieve missing citation there too--Moloch09 (talk) 16:57, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. I'm a demon on newspaper portals. I'm always accessing reviews for plays and films. Trick is to get inside the portal. Probably for copyright and privacy reasons they block google's crawlers.--Moloch09 (talk) 17:48, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Getting closer on the BLP Jukes. Wondered what to do about speaking engagement stuff on talk page? Never really seen a format for that. Would it be worth doing a short background bio section to include other stuff. Might as well get this looking as good as possible for WP BIO project rating. Vandalism help on Fan Expo page
Greetings Shawn this is Sid, owner of Neoengel.com. I created this account as I'm tired of the underhanded tactics of the company that has appeared on that page. The vandalism message in the latest revision was from me, though the link was valid the person doing it was obviously impersonating me and there is a history between us. The person posting as "neoangelsid" is likely Aman Gupta (owner of Fan Expo) or one of his employees - see the discussion page as I went into details on that.
I really don't care what goes on, but I an offended by users creating fake accounts and using impersonation and sockpuppetry to cast false information about me. My user account here is tied to my email account, contact me at email@neoengel.com if you wish to talk to me that way. Hi again! re DP's reversion of adding this cat to Baal (play), it might make sense to define the category more precisly: are these first written/completed plays or first produced or first published?
- I believe it should be first play produced as an unseen -- or not yet seen -- work cannot be deemed a "debut," IMHO. I've indicated that on the category page. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Eponymous categories
Not to beat this particular dead horse too vigorously, but to recap the saga of these categories: a couple of years ago I went through various of the eponymous category parents ("Categories named after...whatever") and tried to weed out the ones that were clearly not needed. Categories with nothing in them but the person's article and maybe an album or two, categories that had nothing in them but an actor's films, spouses or children, stuff like that. There used to be over 600 categories in the musicians category alone. After months of discussion, the compromise/consensus that emerged was that if a musician's category had nothing in it but album, song and band member subcats, the musician's article and possibly a discography, it wasn't needed. If it had a small amount of other material (a side project or something like that) then it was looked at more case-by-case and if it had material in it that clearly couldn't easily be categorized elsewhere or if there was sufficient complexity of material that the musician's own article didn't easily serve as a navigational hub, then it would be kept. That worked well for over a year, then a couple of extreme inclusionists discovered CFD and decided that despite the consensus that resulted in the deletion of hundreds of unnecessary categories, they didn't like the compromise and started objecting when categories had the standard three or even just two subcats. The result has been a muddying of the consensus and repeated battles to get rid of categories like the one for Biedermann. Otto4711 (talk) 21:02, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Cannabis
Hi, please have a look at the changes I made after your edits at Cannabis (drug). We try to keep only journal articles as refs, and in that article stick to the review articles and general consensus rather than reports of individual studies. Do you mind rewording your additions to the Effects article to reflect what the academic consensus is? Citing only certain limited studies gives these conclusions undue weight in an environment where there are not very many certainties. Let me know if you want a hand with any of this. Speedy deletion of La Binerie Mont-Royal
A tag has been placed on La Binerie Mont-Royal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Group CFD nominations
To make a group nom, just add an additional piped link to the first nomination. Copy and paste that into every category you want to nominate. Create the cfd2 nomination and save it. Edit the nomination and you'll see a line reading :Propose renaming :Category:Best Supporting Actor film awards to :Category:Film awards for supporting actor <br/> Copy and paste that line once for each nominated category, change the names to those of the other nominated categories and save it. There may be a less labor-intensive way but this is the only way I know how to do it.
It'll look something like:
:Propose renaming :Category:Best Supporting Actor film awards to :Category:Film awards for supporting actor
:Propose renaming :Category:Best Supporting Actress film awards to :Category:Film awards for supporting actress
:Propose renaming :Category:Best Actress film awards to :Category:Film awards for lead actress

Category:Documentaries by topic
Hi Shawn. I was browsing through this category and I've noticed that some of the sub-cats start with "Documentary films about X" or " Documentaries about Y". I think a uniform approach to all these sub-cats should be in place, and seeing as you've done a lot of work on documentary films, I'm looking for your input on the naming conventions. Once we've provisionally agreed the best way forward, I'm happy to take a mass rename to WP:CFD. Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 09:02, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Never even thought about the main categories naming! Yes, that makes sense to me to have it renamed as per your rationale. Lugnuts (talk) 12:14, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
BAFTA nominations
I closed this discussion. Do you want me to close and relist your nominations now, or do you want to take care of relisting them? In light of how the other one ended, I don't suppose you'll be altering your proposal, but I don't think it's going to get much attention now on the 12 June listing. - Relisted here; the initial one has been closed. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
