Hello, i found out how to do this, sorry for not contacting you sooner. In scouts, we had a knot tying competition, and we had to memorize some things on notecards. one of the things was the king of knots, or the square knot. Talk to me if you feel the need! needmoney90

revise 'Tent'

Cabin tent?

[edit]

I don't know what a 'cabin' tent is or looks like - it's not a name used in UK/Europe/NZ. Can you point me at a website with a picture of a cabin tent, please? Murray Langton 06:49, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Persian arts template

[edit]

Are you involved with the template? It could use some tender loving care. Surely it could be prettier. Expand it just a wee bit, have a colored background, and perhaps a bit of arabesque on the top? If not you, who? Zora 07:56, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category war

[edit]

Please consider going to Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#Category:Boy_Scouts_of_America_controversy_and_Category:Boy_Scouts_of_America_controversies_to_.28he_didn.27t_say_what.29 and voting on this (we want delete) and the "Contentious issues" listing right below it (we want keep). There are constant edit wars on the "Controversies about..." article, so I don't really worry about it, but I would like to keep the contentious issues grouped together in the project as they relate to Scouting. Link/reference editing

If you don't know what you are editing and how it relates to an article then don't do it. Try not to be a Schmuck, ok? Ati3414 09:42, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smack, thanks for notice of the Request for mediation. I don't think I was involved with the dispute much, other than responding to Ati's empty threat on my talk page, but I guess my name on the RFM doesn't hurt. It might be useful mention How to calculate Earth's Age (AfD discussion), an already-deleted POV/content fork by Ati. Quarl (talk) 2006-02-12 12:54Z

Hi - thanks for the notice, I was going to mention the Afd bit, but Quarl done did that :-) Ati3414 also created How old is the Earth?, with the same content on Jan. 31 [1], it was turned into a redirect by User:Peruvianllama within a few minutes. Anon 67.170.224.36 re-instated it Feb 1 & I reverted [2]. Just a bet more info for the RFM, I would add it to the request - but not sure of the protocol there. Lattice

[edit]

I think your reorganization of the lattice disambiguation page made it disorganized. The various meanings of the word lattice are derived from, and explained by the original meaning. The page should make that clear, instead of making it look as if these different meanings are unrelated. Michael Hardy 03:00, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

Hi Smack, I would like to nominate you to become an administrator, if you are ready. Quarl (talk) 2006-02-27 09:52Z

I don't know whether or not I'm ready. What exactly does adminship entail? --Smack (talk) 04:46, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, adminship itself entails doing chores :) such as deleting pages that should be deleted. Since such things require more judgement than just editing pages the community only grants certain powers to users they trust. If you're interested in becoming an administrator but don't know anything about it yet, I suggest reading up on Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship, and voting regularly in WP:RFA. Quarl (talk) 2006-02-28 06:11Z
I'm honored, but I think I'll decline. It would give me some nice powers, but I don't really see a need for them. On the other hand, it seems that adminship would obligate me to consistently keep track of Wikipedia policy, whether or not it impinges specifically on what I'm doing. --Smack (talk) 07:00, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why cleanup on husky?

[edit]

You added a cleanup tag to husky and I'm not sure why. I've done a lot of work on dab pages and have gone back to the MoS:DP to double-check, and I'm not sure what exactly you had in mind. Can you be more specific on the talk page, please? Thanks. Elf | Talk 18:22, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Knot Infoboxes

[edit]

If you're going to be adding infoboxes to knot articles, I would suggest creating a template rather than hard coding the boxes in every article--changing one template would be a whole lot easier if a change is ever needed. See Wikipedia:Infobox templates. --66.41.217.182

Or using Template:Knot-details (instead of creating another one) --66.41.217.182

Ah fahget it I see you are doing just that. Great :-) --66.41.217.182

That's okay. If you want to edit it, go ahead. And yes, I do value your input. Also, I trust you far more than the guy who gutted it--what he did may have may it less of a "how to", but it neutered it into an almost valueless article IMHO. Rlevse 09:52, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Fishknot.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fishknot.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:06, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Scalar disambiguation

[edit]

In scalar disambiguation page the word 'atomic' is used. Could you please explain in what way the word is relevant there. --Profero 12:25, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply on my discussion page (should this have been posted there too?). I understand you mean (4. Unable to be split or made any smaller), but I still don't understand why a scalar (computing) "that can hold only one value at a time" must be referred to as this. A bit, though, I agree in a sense is 'atomic' – but even a bit is either 1 or 0. And scalar in mathematics can be any number. I'm aware of my lack of knowledge in these fields, but as far as I know the word seems irrelevant here. I hope you don't mind me asking for a deeper explanation. --Profero 08:27, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, there is no difference between a pseudoscalar in physics and mathematics, and therefore nothing to disambiguate. Its the same thing. linas 03:29, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And after seeing this talk page, I'll also note that there is no difference between scalars in math, physics and computing, those articles should all be merged together. :-/ Maybe you'd be interested in doing such a merge? linas 03:33, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A graph or table based on decimal values is incorrect

[edit]

A graph that is based upon decimal values will not show that half-life computation ends when the number of Carbon-14 atoms is less than one. If you use decimal variables to make the graph then the graph will drop below one and continue ad infintium. The reason for using a table is to clearly show that the results of the half-life computation using integer variables overcomes this problem and allows a table or a graph to reflect the truth that when the number of Carbon-14 atoms is less than one the process of half-life decay is over. I don't think you comprehend this fact. ...IMHO (Talk) 04:20, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hydrogen-like atom math

[edit]

Hello Smack. I wanted to bring your attention to some recent changes to your contributions to Atomic orbital (I didn't think you would be aware of these changes because the content has since been moved to Hydrogen-like atom). Because you were the original contributor to the relevant sections (see here and here), I thought you might want to provide some input on these recent changes. Basically, some of us expressed on Talk:Hydrogen-like atom that it seemed more appropriate to not include Z in the definition for "a" and to change the relationship of "a" to the Bohr radius. If you agree that these changes are appropriate, it would be great if you could check the accuracy of my edits. Thanks!--GregRM 14:11, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS...I noticed that the Tipler and Llewellyn reference that you added in the same edit as your math contributions had not been copied to the Hydrogen-like atom article. I have copied the reference to the Hydrogen-like atom article. Does the current content of the Atomic orbital article still include information from this reference, or has it all been moved to Hydrogen-like atom? Thanks!--GregRM 14:26, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response on my Talk page. I appreciate the information.--GregRM 20:02, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was afraid of that. I, too, know the Canyon, and everything you wrote matches my experiences. But, sadly, that strictly isn't correct for Wikipedia, because it probably qualifies as original research. :-(. I'll try and look for books that contain info, and see if I can do citations. Re Bosnia

[edit]

I think it is pritty clear what user Bosoni is trying to allude to: ie Bosniaks are the heirs to Bosnia.

quite frankly wikipedia is about neutrality, and 2(Serbs and Croats)! of the 3 CONSTITUENT NATIONS of BiH have a very conflicting view with this, so therefore their view, regarding a ISSUE that CONCERNS THEM, should also be heard.

i suggested 2 neutral versions, which would be NUETRAL to ALL concerned parties, however it seems that Bosnoni is very eager to pass his very one minded revisionist agenda regarding the history of BiH.

This is the version i would want to pass

http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Bosnia_%28disambiguation%29&oldid=71162156 or as a last resort include Croats and Serbs aswell!

however Bosnoni wants this: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Bosnia_%28disambiguation%29&oldid=72221430

quite a diference isnt there..?..again it is ironic that Bosoni puts a Neutrality tag on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnians 'Note on use of term 'Bosnian-Herzegovinian' and as i can see from his contribution to the discussion page has some issues with describing the actions of some Bosniaks "aggresive" with regards to the noun Bosnian and sinominsouly associating it to Bosniaks.

CLEARLY the user Bosoni is the epitome of these 'agressive efforts' through his actions on the http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Bosnia_%28disambiguation%29&oldid=72221430

I ought surely to have offered a talk page explanation as to my application of the {{howto}} tag, and I'm sorry for having omitted such explanation; I was paring a long list of articles with which I'd found, at some point, some problem that I'd hoped to remedy, and I rather failed fully to explain a few tags. In any event, I'll try to offer straightaway an explanation at Talk:Survival skills, although I do gather that, whilst some formulations may be unencyclopedic (in, perhaps, exorbitant detail), there don't appear to be glaring how-to problems, such that I'll remove the tag but nevertheless address my concerns on the talk page. Apologies once more for the oversight... :) Joe 05:31, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! Well done

[edit]

Very nice job you've done on Saint John. CarolGray 20:00, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just discovered there's a separate disambiguation page at St. Johns. I'm inclined to think having two disambiguation pages is better - what do you think? There's also a bit of a muddle over "St. Johns" and "St. John's" and "St Johns" and "St John's" and "Saint Johns" and "Saint John's". I encountered similar problems at Saint Mary's (disambiguation) a couple of months ago. I don't have time to spare until Sunday, but I could work on it then. CarolGray 10:33, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am inclined to copy what exists at Saint Mary (disambiguation) and Saint Mary's (disambiguation). That means:

  • moving St. Johns to Saint John's (because, in my opinion, that is the simplest version)
  • redirecting St Johns, St John's, St. John's, Saint Johns etc to Saint John's
  • moving entries from Saint John to Saint John's as appropriate - this would include the majority of the entries in the Places subsection, and
  • Creating a new Places subsection within the main section of Saint John's
  • listing secondary disambiguation pages such as Saint John's College and Saint John's University in the See also section, and moving entries to those pages from Saint John and Saint John's, as appropriate

I would be very glad of your feedback on this - it's quite drastic, but to my mind, we shouldn't expect readers to know whether what they want is St. John's or St Johns or what.

I spent a while yesterday evening tidying up Saint John's University (disambiguation) and disambiguating some of the links. I'm British, and I had to be quite cautious with the American universities. Is it safe to assume if someone grew up in New York, and went to St John's University, it was the New York one they went to? In the UK, it has been normal to chose a University in a different part of the country - learning to live independently being part of the educational experience. CarolGray 10:07, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put a proposal, asking for comments, at Talk:Saint John. CarolGray 15:11, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your response on my user page and also at Talk:Saint John. I'll leave it a few days to see if anyone else comments, before requesting admin help for the move. In the meantime, I'll fix the links to St John's College. CarolGray 18:59, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Intra-company transfer, by Vegaswikian (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Intra-company transfer seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Intra-company transfer, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Intra-company transfer itself. A tag has been placed on Junta (Peninsular War), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

dictionary definition. no context

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Neil Larson

Little context in Spectrum of activity

I have nominated Pre-Siberian American Aborigines, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pre-Siberian American Aborigines. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Andrewjlockley (talk) 18:53, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Independent sales organization requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 07:38, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Independent sales organization requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Just letting you know that an idea you were interested in awhile ago has taken some steps closer to implementation... Tisane (talk) 10:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Jorge Stolfi/Pre-Siberian American Aborigines, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jorge Stolfi/Pre-Siberian American Aborigines and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Jorge Stolfi/Pre-Siberian American Aborigines during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 19:09, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to check your last edit to Libyan no-fly zone - I'm not sure you did what you intended! Best, nancy 15:22, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of fictional characters ... pending deletion

[edit]

Hello,

You may be interested in the discussion regarding deleting a list article regarding fictional Carpenters. You have in the past created a List of surname Johnson. I created a list of real and fictional Carpenter because other editors/admins told me to do so from the Carpenter surname page. Now others want to delete it. I was happy with the way it was and would be happy to merge the fictional Carpenters with the list of surname Carpenters. Any input, pro or con would be welcome.

See: List_of_fictional_characters_with_surname_Carpenter

Russian translation

[edit]

Hello. I was on Wikipedia:Translators available and notice that you were on the list for Russian to English translators and wondered if you could translate Maria Vladimirovna of Staritsa and/or Vladimir of Staritsa? Thanks.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 00:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Scalar (computing) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to fail WP:N, any useful information here could be placed in [Variable_(computer_science)]

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Field Upgradeable Systems Environment has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (software) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
