Newsday

[edit]

Regarding an edit you made that is virtually verbatim with a similar edit made by an anonymous IP user on AOL: To say a newspaper "is known" for its some viewpoint or other without giving a reputable citation goes against one of the primary the rules Wikipedia. Citation isn't a suggestion; it is required.

Additionally, the phrase "is known" goes against the Wikipedia policy of avoiding terms that do not give attribution. Who knows it? What authoritative, unbiased source says so? Saying that Newsday is known for its "liberal" viewpoint, let alone "strongly liberal" (what standard of measurement is being used for "strongly"?) is only opinion, not confirmable, verifiable fact.

Please read the Wikipedia policies and guidelines that are linked to here before making that edit. I have removed it for the reasons stated above. Without giving citations, a challenged edit can be considered vandalism. --69.22.254.111 04:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Attack

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on this page, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because the article is a page created primarily to disparage its subject or a biography of a living person that is controversial in tone and unsourced, where there is no neutral point of view version in the history to revert to. (CSD G10).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting the article, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate the article itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. CSDWarnBot (talk) 21:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Sphinx1! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 12 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Joseph Sullivan (mobster) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 21:53, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Melinda Katz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a city councilperson with no particular claim to notability. Succession navbox at bottom is for state assembly.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
