User talk:Strangerer/Archive 1
Hi Strangerer, I created an article for Gladoo.com an India-focused job search engine but it was marked for immediate deletion. So wanted to understand what exactly is the criteria for inclusion/exclusion of a site.
Thank you very much
Hello Strangerer,
A few days ago I modified a description about the Raelian Movement on the SWASTIKA, where it was called a "cult", and wrote instead "religious minority".
Today I had a look at the page and again I see the word "cult" to describe the Raelian Movement.
I would like to know on what do you base yourself to call a minority faith a cult?
It is an insulting word and it should not be used, specially since Wikipedia asks people to be neutral when writing.
Calling someone a CULT is hardly being neutral.
I amended the article and put religious minority again. I hope it will remain this way.
And please, let me know why you consider that a religious organization should be called a cult.
If the Raelian Movement is a cult, then so is the Catholic Church, the Protestant, the Buddhists and all the other religions of the planet, the only difference being in the number of adherents.
See the comment that I left on the Swastika page on the 10th.
I do not have much time to waste writing messages like this for something which is so obvious.
I hope I won't have to do any more amendments.
Elo
Raelian Movement & Neutral Point of View guidelines
Reading the article on the Swastika, I was dismayed to see that the Raelian Movement is described as a religious "cult".
Taking into account all the pejorative connotations of this term, I think it is in very bad taste to call the Raelian Movement a cult.
Furthermore, in your own guidelines, you state "Neutral Point of View"... Calling a group of people a cult (or sect), is hardly a Neutral Point of View. It encourages discrimination and hatred towards a group of people who belong to a minority religious faith.
As a member of the Raelian Movement for more than 20 years, I think it is high time that at least sites like Wikipedia which are open to editing by everyone, can truly be a Neutral and verifiable source of information.
The Charter of Human Rights, grants to all individuals the freedom to choose their faith and to be respected whatever their choice.
Calling the Raelian Movement a "cult" in Wikipedia or in any other place is a breach of the Human Rights of the individuals.
If the traditional media, many of whom are related to politicians, big religious organizations and corporations, use their power to reach the masses to insult and discriminate against those who are not like them, we should not follow their example. How are we to improve this world we live in and make it a more fair place for everyone if we imitate those who try to censure and guide our thoughts and actions?
But Wikipedia is different. It is supposed to be a planetary database of information which should not discriminate against anyone, regardless of their creed, race, or whatever.

- Um, hi. Here is the edit in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Swastika&diff=114106901&oldid=114100470
- Someone had changed "sect" to "minority", so I reverted that edit. It didn't say "cult". I'm confused at why you think it said "cult". Where do you see that? Maybe you confused me with someone else? I don't see "cult" anywhere on the page, but maybe I'm missing it.
- The words "religious minority" are often used to discount the opinions of groups, so I changed it back to "sect" so that the group's opinions are presented without an implication about whether the group is a minority or whether that belief is not widely held.
- I don't know if you're a cult or a sect or a religious minority or whatever, but if you want to refer to yourselves as a religious minority rather than a religious sect, that's fine by me and that's what should be in the article. I'm just confused at why you think I put in "cult" when I changed "religious minority" to "sect". I have no idea what the Raelian Movement is and didn't hold prejudice against it before, so this comment to me from you is my first impression of the Raelian Movement. --Strangerer (Talk | Contribs) 15:49, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I just wanted to let you know I thought about it and think you where right with the speedy deletion tag as the comic was only recently started and it was mostly advertisement. I'm sorry for violating wikipedia guidelines and I wont do it again because I respect wikipedia and find it a big help. --Chainiac 15:41, 3 March 2007 (CET)
T.R.A.U.M.
[edit]I understand where you met confusion then. All of T.R.A.U.M.'s works have been conducted under extreme confidentiality and Kulesh refuses to comment due to conflict between her and Maugly Jr. I will re-submit the article to wikipedia as well as speak with the user you mentioned. Thank you.
I have read the wikipedia.org criteria for articles. Traum's article served a purpose in explaining the breakup of a very large band in Russia. If you are going to delete the traum page, please delete the TEMA page as well. --Talyubittu 17:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I wanted to add my biography to wikipedia but apparently one must meet certain criteria. Is there any place in wikipedia that I could do this so a search would reveal my biographical info upon keyword search? -Jonathan Satriale

Jimmy rocks and rules the world
[edit]I added a speedy delete tag to this page. Should it have the template you added that lists all related articles by them? If so could you change it on its page. Thanks. --Xiahou 01:06, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Jimmy rocks and rules the world is the page in question. The others you have listed nicely in that template for mass deletion. Keeps them all together and states why they should. This one I put a tag on seperate. I don't know which template tag you used for those other pages in this group. Could you add this template to this Jimmy rocks and rules the world page. Thanks. --Xiahou 01:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Would help if you explained your strong objection to the text on the David Kranzler page just created. Please indicate what on the page is not factual in your view and if possible cite references for this. Thank you. Emesz 12:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh hi. I just noticed your edit to my user page. The passages in question are, "He is perhaps the leading historian..." and "Probably he has the largest and most unique research archive...". Could you please directly cite (or substantiate/flesh out) these two phrases? I noticed you had a large bibliographical body, but did not cite any specific passages. :) --Strangerer 17:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the helpful response.
- I have been studying the field of rescue by Jews during the Holocaust and as far as I can tell David Kranzler's works are the broadest and deepest regarding major Jewish rescuers - i.e. those who worked at the strategic level. I know of no institution/researcher who interviewed as many Jews who were directly and indirectly involved in rescue. As far as I know the major Holocaust centers don't have original audio interviews with the key Jewish rescuers (Kranzler does), nor do they probably have the equivalent of his highly focused personal research archive collected over the decades on four continents - probably at great expense and significant investment of time. Since I haven't seen any books analyzing David Kranzler's mixed media archive, and also have not seen comparative studies of archives it is difficult to think of meaningful citations on this topic.
- The article is meant to be a stub, i.e. as a starting point.
- Would appreciate your advice on how to sharpen the points you mentionedEmesz 18:00, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Tnank you for the changes to the David Kranzler page. They are good solutions!Emesz 20:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Can you be a bit more specific on why you think this article needs copyediting? - Mgm|(talk) 20:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've reworded the sentence. The site wasn't dedicated to helping kids with school assignments it was dedicated to helping people compare pricing of mobile phone services. He made it as a school assignment. The millionaire bit is mentioned in one of the sources I cited. - Mgm|(talk) 22:50, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

"prenatal discrimination" Not a neologism
[edit]"Prenatal discrimination" is not a neologism. It is a fairly uncommon term but you can google it. It's used to describe cases where a fetus is discriminated against because of physical conditions such as gender or if the fetus is discovered to have a disability. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jfraatz (talk • contribs) 00:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit]Thank you very much for you compliment. My goal is to create stubs for all the townships of Illinois first, along with a map. Then to go to all the cities/villages, insert a infobox and that locator Illinois maps for all of them. It is a daunting task with well over 1000 townships in the state, but hey, someone has to do it.--Kranar drogin 11:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Dear Sir:
I removed the unreferenced tag you erroneously added to the Mira Szaszy page. There are no fewer than four (4) references in the form of external links provided which cover the contents of the entire page in question. I do not understand your placing the tag in the first place.

You know well that all of them (clans) are related to Swati tribe of Pashtuns and mentioned clans have been referenced from a book "Pathan Tribes on the North West Frontier of India, prepared by the General Staff Army Headquarters India". Hopefully they shall have improved slowly and gradually. Thanks. Haider 20:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

- First you will have to read swati article carefully, Hazara Division, where Swatis holding there lands, is located in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, so when the book was prepared by general staff army head quarters india in 1910, it was united India, before the partition of 1947, when two nations came into being "India" and "Pakistan". Edits to Dave Eggers
[edit]I just wanted to let you know that when the {{DEFAULTSORT:}} template is included in an article, it is not necessary to pipe each individual category. For example, the article Dave Eggers includes {{DEFAULTSORT:Eggers, Dave}}, so it is not necessary to include the author's name with each category (unless you wish the subject to be alphabetized differently in a particular category, in which case the piping overrides the template). AVEDA Comment
[edit]I'm not sure why you were surprised to see information about the Salons, and no, you cannot sell Aveda products LEGALLY without being affiliated with them. You must be an Experience, Concept, or Lifestyle salon in order to LEGALLY carry Aveda products. I am a representative for the company, and happen to know this firsthand. Aveda is not sold in every salon in the United States, to say so is an exaggeration. Maybe it would be best if you let the beauticians/Salon owners like us make the facts known, since you obviously did no research to come to your conclusion.

substing
[edit]When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. ST47Talk 12:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
BIG problems with Illuminato.
[edit]The below complaint/civility request I placed on his talk page should sum it up. Many users have been recently stating complaints about the exccesive quotes in the article on adolescent sexuality and its many duplicates (By duplicate I mean pretty much copy and pasted text into sections of articles like the main one on US culture. It might still be there. In pornography addiction, adolescent sexuality in the united states, and sex education.)
I've put this on another users page as well because of the possible (potential) severity of Illuminato's increasingly POV and uncivil actions.
However Illuminato has been uncooperative in discussion (at least with me. He recently used a couple of minor spelling mistakes to point out 'how young i am'. Of course he could have easily fixed these and when I replied to him on his talk page with a lengthy footnote on what the article is about etc. he promptly blanked is user page and the older discussion link is broken). My complaint is below.
This is a warning. I have noticed your 'clean up' of the Talk Page on adolescent Sexuality. However you removed mostly new and relevant discussions and left mostly old discussion.
you have a history of randomly 'cleaning up' your talk page and you use the excuse. "It was getting too long".
However the talk page for {{adolescent sexuality}} was hardly as long as many other talk pages and when you blanked your user pages It seems that all that 'cleaning up' took place right after i'd placed a concern or question or responded to you.
Also there is the question of your constant reverts and edits to the article on Adolescent Sexuality. Namely how you revert any changes made by anyone else but you still squeeze in information based on POV and ONLY POV.
I ask you to respect WP:NPV and WP:Civility If I made spelling mistakes or grammatical or formatting errors then please excuse. You have used minor spelling mistakes to point out 'how young I am' and as an excuse in the past to delete large additions to the article instead of fixing those mistak esand I wish to let you know that any mistakes are accidental and to please correct any spelling errors you might find.
If you remove this request I will place a civility 2nd warning template on your talk page as your conduct on this site (especially towards me) has been uncivil, dishonest, and is clearly POV pushing that results in unfair edits and reverts to Adolescent Sexuality and Adolescent Sexuality In The United States as well as the section on adolescence in themain article on United states Culture that has little to no supplemental value to these articles whatsoever.
Please use care, you're REALLY acting like a jerk. (I'm sorry If i offended you but you've been a problem to me and have prevented me and others from getting little to no work done on these articles or sections in question for months)

Recommendation for adolescent sexuality
[edit]I left the following message with Illuminato. I'll post my reccomendation in the talk page. give about a week for discussion. And based on the discussion. BOOM!. Feel free to participate.
Illuminato, Admit it.
Those two articles ARE simply copied text. I left the adolescent sexuality in India article stay as is because it wasn't carbon copied text.
Remember, your actions are putting undue strain on the servers. I'll put it up for vote in the talk page. And Illuminato, I'm sorry but you'll probably outnumbered. And seeing as you are about the only one objecting it WILL probably go through. I'm simply asking you to put aside your views and think rationally. DOZENS of people have complained about and critisized your actions on wikipedia. Far more than mine.
Sincerely,
Nateland 00:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
