Technical news
- The filter log now provides links to view diffs of deleted revisions (phab:T261630).
Arbitration
- The 2020 CheckUser and Oversight appointment process has begun. The community consultation period will take place from September 27th to October 7th.
- Following a request for comment, sitting Committee members may not serve on either the Ombuds Commission or the WMF Case Review Committee. The Arbitration Committee passed a motion implementing those results into their procedures.
Miscellaneous
- The Universal Code of Conduct draft is open for community review and comment until October 6th, 2020.
- Office actions may now be appealed to the Interim Trust & Safety Case Review Committee.

Recent changes
- There is a new tool where you can see which home wiki users have in discussions on Meta. This can help show which communities are not part of the discussion on wikis where we make decisions that affect many other wikis.
- You can now thank users for file uploads or for changing the language of a page. [1]
Problems
- There were many errors with the new MediaWiki version last week. The new version was rolled back. Updates that should have happened last week are late. [2]
- Everyone was logged out. This was because a user reported being logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [3]
Many pages have JavaScript errors. You can read more and now see a list of user scripts with errors.
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (calendar).- Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in
[[Child]]renis linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis. [4]

- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [5]

Problems
- Because of the problems with the MediaWiki version two weeks ago last week's updates are also late. [6][7][8]
Changes later this week
- Live previews didn't show the templates used in the preview if you just edited a section. This has now been fixed. You can also test CSS and JavaScript pages even if you have the live preview enabled. Previously this didn't work well. [9][10]

I have recently joined the platform, I had made edits to other renewable energy company articles following the fines handed out by Ofgem today and had created a page for Green Supplier Limited with similar contents to those of the Co-operative Energy, Octopus Energy, Bulb Energy etc.
Green Supplier Limited were ranked #2 in the recent Citizens Advice Bureau survey (here: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/how-citizens-advice-works/citizens-advice-consumer-work/supplier-performance/energy-supplier-performance/compare-domestic-energy-suppliers-customer-service/)

- Hi @Greenadvice:, welcome to Wikipedia! Your article was deleted because it was highly promotional about the subject. Articles on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view, and that's something which is extremely hard to do well if you have a conflict of interests. I'll also note that your additions to the other pages have a definite negative tone about them - you need to be very careful here to ensure you don't give undue weight to negative content you add about your competitors, and remember all such additions must be cited to a reliable source (in other words, a publication independent of the subject, with editorial oversight and a reputation for fact-checking). I would strongly recommend you stick to the Draft space when writing articles, listen to the advice you're given when you submit drafts for review, and if you want to edit articles about your company or your company's competitors, I'd strongly recommend you use the {{request edit}} template on the talk page instead of editing the article directly. Of course, I can't force you to follow that process, but it will guide you in the right direction with others' assistance. stwalkerster (talk) 22:28, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed that you fully protected Amin Fardin in response to the ongoing edit war. That's perfectly fine, but the page was created by a WP:DUCK of ArmanAfifeh (talk · contribs), a sockpuppeteer and prolific LTA. - In the AbuseFilter extension, the
rmspecials()function will be updated soon so that it does not remove the "space" character. Wikis are advised to wrap all the uses ofrmspecials()withrmwhitespace()wherever necessary to keep filters' behavior unchanged. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [13] - Some gadgets and user-scripts use the HTML div with the ID
#jump-to-nav. This div will be removed soon. Maintainers should replace these uses with either#siteSubor#mw-content-text. A list of affected scripts is at the top of phab:T265373.

- Last week, links to "diffs" from mobile watchlists and recentchanges were linking to page-revisions instead of diffs. This has now been fixed. [15]

- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- Since the introduction of the interface administrators user group in 2018, administrators couldn’t view the deleted history of CSS/JS pages. Now they can. [16]
- There was a problem with the Change Tags. The software would apply the "Reverted" tag to any page actions such as page-protection changes if they came directly after a reverted edit. This has now been fixed for new edits. [17]
- The Reply tool will be offered as an opt-in Beta Feature on most Wikipedias in November. Another announcement will be made once the date is finalized. [18]

Hi! You declined my speedy deletion request [19], but could you please look into the revision history of the target page? It is a newly-created essay that in no way describes "some aspect(s) of Wikipedia's norms, customs, technicalities, or practices" and doesn't "reflect [any level] of consensus and vetting". Therefore I've just removed the {{infopage}} template: [20]. Could the shortcut be deleted now? The user used the essay as a way to promote his point of view (a point of that doesn't seem to be either consensual or well thought out). See:

P. S. If you read the essay, you can notice the author's disdain for the Russian Wikipedia. I haven't seen him there much, but I think he is known for rather nonconformist behavior. And he is currently blocked there ([21]).
P. P. S. Yes, I think I've seen a couple of discussions about the need of marking stresses in the Russian Wikipedia, but the discussions concerned the necessity to mark stresses in very common (dictionary) Russian words. I don't think anyone ever proposed to remove stress marks from family names. Cause the stress placement in Russian is often unpredictable. Therefore the essay doesn't look right to me, it is rather misleading. --Moscow Connection (talk) 23:01, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Update. I decided to userfy the essay again. I've looked at some discussions at the Russian Wiki, and I don't think it is a wise idea to waste much time on this. Cause the user seems to be very uncooperative. (I won't be surprised if he continues putting the page back.)
P. S. If he wants to delete the stress marks from everywhere, he should start a formal discussion somewhere. For example, at Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia. I've told him that. See my edit summary. --Moscow Connection (talk) 20:16, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
