Control copyright icon Hello Subham7063.wiki! Your additions to Independence Day (India) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 05:46, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DanCherek I didn't think about copyright, I just added the article thinking that people would get more information about their country.
I posted the articles without any vested interest because I felt information everyone needed to know
I didn't know before that Wikipedia doesn't copyright content
Thanks for telling me, I'll be careful from now on Subham7063.wiki (talk) 06:13, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your understanding! DanCherek (talk) 11:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Metric units with converters

[edit]

Hello.

You must always use metric units with converters in all Wikipedia articles when units are included, as it is required in Wikipedia. Do NOT only use imperial units in the Wikipedia articles. 96% of the world population use only metric units, including India. The vast majority do not use or know imperial units. In the future always add metric units with converters in Wikipedia articles, including in articles about India.

Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to LGBT rights in Saudi Arabia. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Your recent edit, linked below, seemed less than neutral and has been removed. Editors on Wikipedia have a wide diversity of opinions, but it is important that articles maintain a neutral tone.

Hello, I'm Maylingoed. I noticed that you made a change to an article, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~~mAyLiNgOeEd (Talk to me!) Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Sandeep Lamichhane, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Rehsarb (talk) 14:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rehsarb I have included the reference. By the way, being an editor, you could have added references yourself.

Hi Subham7063.wiki, any contentious information added to a biography of a living person that does not include a source must be removed immediately without waiting for discussion. The burden to provide a source is on the editor who adds the material to the article. See WP:BLPRS and WP:PROVEIT for more information. Rehsarb (talk) 15:13, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2024 in India, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NDA. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
