The Touch of Your Lips

[edit]

Thanks for all your recent album disambig work. I created a lot of the albums, and where the albums are named for songs, I disambigged them that the song could have the original title, and not the album. Sorry if that was incomprehensible!. I just want to avoid situations like God Bless the Child and Lush Life. Neither of these should be a disambig page, when most every link is named for the original song. There are a thousand other examples :) Gareth E Kegg (talk) 22:46, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. I couldn't work out which album you meant - then I saw it was the title of the post! I'd not heard of the song but a quick google shows it appears on lots of albums so I get your point. Tassedethe (talk) 22:54, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Time of My Life (3 Doors Down album)

[edit]

Why did you move Time of My Life (3 Doors Down album)? This move seems to go directly against article title policy which says "Be precise, but only as precise as necessary." As I see no evidence of any other album titled Time of My Life, we don't need the title to say 3 Doors Down. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 03:26, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

botched Roots redirect

[edit]

Oops, that was sloppy of me. I must be too accustomed to leaving off the (disambiguation) to avoid double redirects. Thanks for fixing it. Nick Number (talk) 16:11, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No prob, it was obvious from your edit summary that that was what you'd meant. Tassedethe (talk) 16:27, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help with correct move templates

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your note. As you can see I'm having difficulty remembering the correct order/procedure to conduct a double shunt like this:

Can you remind me please? Thanks. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:51, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Really there's only one step which is to open a WP:RM request on the Fear of God (religion) page requesting it be moved to Fear of God. You should format it as a multimove, as Fear of God needs to be moved to Fear of God (disambiguation). This is outlined in this section, WP:RM#Requesting multiple page moves. I hope that helps. Tassedethe (talk) 02:34, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

---Copy from below---

== Requested move ==
{{subst:move-multi

| new1 = Fear of God
| current2 = Fear of God
| new2 = Fear of God (disambiguation)

Hello, Tassedethe, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, Taylor Thompson, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! Edison (talk) 15:28, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move / dab page help

[edit]

Hi, I've seen you do a lot of article moves and dab page creating, so I thought you might know the best way to deal with this. I've just created Paul Hammond (musician), and there are two other Paul Hammonds, a footballer Paul Hammond, and a ballet dancer Paul Hammond (ballet dancer). Do we need a dab page now, or will hatnotes suffice? If you want to fix it up yourself, go for it, or let me know what to do and I can have a go. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:03, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There actually used to be a disambiguation page (Paul Hammond (disambiguation)) so I'll resurrect that. I think it is worth having the page. It's not clear that the footballer is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Last month the footballer got 239 hits, while the dancer got 328. You can also see from the incoming links to Paul Hammond that several clearly refer to somebody else. I'll have to do the moves myself as it'll require deletion. Thanks for your message. Tassedethe (talk)

Disambiguations!

[edit]

Hi! Saw your move of Bazaar (1982 film) to Bazaar (film). & i did the same thing again just like the last time. Hence though of letting you know. Have now created Bazaar (1949 film). Please revert it & create the new disambiguation page. (I should also now learn to make these disambiguations pages. But some time later. You seem to have got the knack.) -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 13:34, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert Werner

[edit]

Hi, Tassedethe
I am not sure why you changed 'Herbert Werner (U-boat officer)' to Herbert Werner on 12 Nov 2011. You stated that there was 'no need for dab'. I'm not so sure. I orginally put 'U-boat officer' to avoid any confusion. Googling the name produces many sites; one of them has a whole heap of Herbert Werners, and that is just in the US !

I have just noticed that a very similar question has been asked above concerning Time of My Life (3 Doors Down album), so I will quote from that entry: 'This move seems to go directly against article title policy which says "Be precise, but only as precise as necessary."'

There are many more articles on Wikipedia which have some detail after the person's name. To give three examples: 'name (footballer)', name (British Army officer)' and name (veteran).

I would urge you to think again.

Regards
RASAM (talk) 11:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We only add a phrase such as footballer or U-boat officer after a persons name if there is more than one person with the same name. This means we need to add a disambiguator to clearly differentiate them from each other. As there is no other person named Herbert Werner there is no need to add anything. This is all laid out at Wikipedia:Disambiguation. I hope that's clear. Tassedethe (talk) 16:40, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Cudell & Richardson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Reginald Berkeley

[edit]

See Reginald Berkeley (which you have contributed to) for my proposal to merge the two articles as I am certain that Reginald Berkeley (politician) and Reginald Berkeley (writer) are the same person, as confirmed by the obituary of Captain Reginald Berleley in The Times of 1 April 1935 page 9, which refers to his plays and also to his career as an MP (presumably not an April Fools Day hoax!). Could you reply on the article talk page please, as I have asked several people for comments. Hugo999 (talk) 12:29, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What was all that about? (You moved it to a /tmp and moved it back again). I'm puzzled. (I'm not paricularly involved in the topic, just created a stub when she was an unexpected red link). PamD 18:46, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There were a bunch of links that need fixing that should have gone to Camilla Wright (badminton). It was quicker to move Camilla Wright, use WikiCleaner to fix the links and move the page back, rather than edit each page individually. I did a similar thing with Jens Olsson (badminton) as that was even worse. There's probably another way to do it but I don't use AWB. Tassedethe (talk) 19:12, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks for the explanation. PamD 23:51, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to uniform the references and sources to meet the standards used in many Wiki "featured articles". Thanks Mugginsx (talk) 23:17, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could help but I have made only one minor edit to that article [1]. I have no knowledge of the subject. Good luck with your efforts. Tassedethe (talk) 23:24, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is understandable. I will continue with my efforts, just wanted the references and sources to reflect those in featured articles and did not want to step on your good efforts in the article. I will continue (not deleting sources but uniforming them in their appearance). Have a nice day. Mugginsx (talk) 11:24, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited List of amusement parks (A–B), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hi, In this edit you resolved a link to a dab page by pointing to just one of the disambiguated people. Surely it's better to point via a redirect to the dab page, annotating this page as "multiple people"? That's what I've just done, anyway. PamD 20:07, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why did you remove the "c." from the bithdate of the Ferdinand Poulton entry at John Morgan. Do you know something his article doesn't?

My mistake. I'm using the dabfix tool and it adds the birth dates from the linked article categories. Ferdinand Poulton is categorized as Category:1601 births so that is what was put at John Morgan. I try and spot when this happens. Strictly if the birth date is uncertain the category should be Category:1600s births. I've just fixed it at John Morgan. Thanks for pointing it out. Lisa Miller

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed your page move of Lisa Miller (24 character) and undid it, becauswe from my understanding most fictional articles (at least ones that I've seen) have the style of X (Y character) but I of course may be wrong. Could you point it out to me perhaps? Steven Zhang Join the DR army! 01:18, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No prob. I see that Category:24 (TV series) characters has most dabbed names with character in them. I don't think that's usual for fictional characters e.g. Category:House (TV series) characters, Category:Oz (TV series) characters, Category:The Wire (TV series) characters, Category:The West Wing characters etc. I can't find a particular relevant guideline, so I can't point it out. I'm happy to leave it as it is. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 01:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dragongirl (novel)

[edit]

Hi. I have arrived from User:Tassedethe/dabs/noveldab, after scanning "What links here" at Dragongirl, newly a redirect. I am the primary author of the article about the novel, now at Dragongirl (novel).

1. What is the meaning of the listing at your noveldab? Do you know of multiple dragongirls that should be the subjects of wikipedia articles?

2. Dragongirl is newly a redirect to Dragongirl (novel). Evidently User:Tokyogirl79 (see User talk:Tokyogirl79#Dragongirl (novel)) made the change today (many hours ago in Japan?) by wholesale cut-and-paste-over a Stub with the latter name. None of that stub is worth preserving but the article history is now left behind at the redirect Dragongirl.

3. I recall my surprise that there were no other dragongirls at wikipedia; I guess the disambiguation is warranted; I suppose you know more; Tokyogirl may know more but she didn't say it. Perhaps this should be undone, and redone by moving Dragongirl with its history. Are you an administrator who can do part of this quickly?

The top of my User:P64/Sandbox now contains the material necessary to reconstruct current Dragongirl (novel) from yesterday's Dragongirl.

Thank you for your time. --P64 (talk) 17:36, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi P64. The page noveldab is something for my own benefit, I'm trying to identify pages where either a) the page somearticle doesn't also link to somearticle (novel) or b) where somearticle (novel) exists but somearticle doesn't. Anyway user Tokyogirl79 has made 2 mistakes. If there is only a single topic then there is no need to have the addition of (novel), ie the article should be at Dragongirl not Dragongirl (novel). Also content should never be cut and pasted from one place to another as it means the history of the article is lost. I am going to reverse those edits. I will leave a note at Tokyogirl79's page. Thanks for your message. Tassedethe (talk) 17:50, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was unaware an article called The Force (advertisement) even existed. re: Adrenaline Mob

[edit]

Good morning, T!

Your continued insistence on supporting the use of the superlative 'Supergroup' to define this particular band (Adrenaline Mob) is disheartening - 'Supergroup' in this particular instance is a label that is based solely on opinion, not the facts in evidence.

I'm not about to make such a trivial edit my life's work, but I'll be happy to undo such editorializing whenever I think of it.

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Tassedethe,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Agony (album) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. --DGaw (talk) 02:03, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AfD/PROD

Hey Tassedethe. Awhile back you got either an AfD or PROD notification, and it was during one of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested, that would be very useful. We're specifically looking for info about whether the messages were more effective at communicating how people should participate in deletion processes as the author of the article. Stephen O'Donnell (Partick Thistle footballer)

[edit]

For football disambig we don't disambig by the club they play for. Its done by nationality if only one or by year of birth if more than one. I hope you will put the page back where it was to allow it to be moved via request move channels as that is clearly not an appropriate disam.Edinburgh Wanderer 22:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually can you explain what you are doing as redirecting this Stephen O’Donnell (Scottish footballer)‎ to steve O’Donnell is making no sense.Edinburgh Wanderer 22:22, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is already a Scottish footballer Stephen O'Donnell (Scottish footballer born 1983), so Stephen O’Donnell (Scottish footballer) is inappropriate for this player. And his birth date isn't listed so I chose the club he plays for as a suitable alternative. Also this page title uses the wrong type of apostrophe (per WP:APOSTROPHE) making it doubly bad. Redirecting to the main page is standard if there are multiple ambiguous dab pages. For instance Stephen O'Donnell (footballer) already redirects to Steve O'Donnell. Do you have a more preferable alternative to (Partick Thistle footballer). If we had a vague idea about his age then we could use a (Scottish footballer born c. 1994)? Tassedethe (talk) 22:30, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This article (2008) says he is 16 so that would give us Stephen O'Donnell (Scottish footballer born c. 1992)? Would that be OK? This article [3] has his exact date. 11.5.1992. I'll move it to Stephen O'Donnell (Scottish footballer born 1992) per the normal naming standards. Tassedethe (talk) 22:32, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It should be 1992 we just wouldn't use the club how many times do you think that would need changed especially if he becomes a journeyman. He was born in 1992 as I've added it to article. I'm not seeing the need however for Stephen O’Donnell (Scottish footballer) being a redirect should it not just be deleted as when searching people will search for Stephen O’Donnell or steven O’Donnell not Stephen O’Donnell (Scottish footballer)Edinburgh Wanderer 22:38, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As the article has existed at the title for several months it's not appropriate to just delete the redirect. There may be external links that point to it. Tassedethe (talk) 22:41, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for being pointy before but that was certainly the oddest disambig for football articles i have ever seen and could not be left like that. I cant see much being pointed at it and i know redirects are cheap but thats cheaper than most.Edinburgh Wanderer 22:46, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I wasn't particularly happy when I moved it, for the exact reasons you state, but I couldn't find the birthdate. His club profile doesn't list it. Tassedethe (talk) 23:30, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rob Baker

[edit]

Hello Tassedethe. I know it's been a while, but can you please correct the talk pages of Talk:Rob Baker and Talk:Rob Baker (guitarist). I know that there was either a merger or deletion discussion regarding the Baker guitarist for the Tragically Hip. You'll see from my post at the time that I really had no idea what was going on. Please advise. Many thanks. Argolin (talk) 01:26, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see anything wrong with those pages. Talk:Rob Baker (guitarist) is correctly at Rob Baker (guitarist) and Talk:Rob Baker was deleted (by me) as Rob Baker now redirects to Robert Baker. All that was previously at Talk:Rob Baker was a redirect so it was deleted as WP:CSD#G6 - Talk page is a redirect created by move of associated article. Is there something in particular you needed me to fix?
The previous discussion seems to centre around the individual notability of the guitarist. WP:MUSICBIO has the relevant guideline (at the bottom): Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases. Members of two notable bands are generally notable enough for their own article. I hope that clears that up. Tassedethe (talk) 01:39, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tassedethe, I'm not (at this point) trying to reverse the WP:DELETION decision leading to the WP:REDIRECT. I'm going through the Canadian music category tree trying to ensure that all musician articles belong to both:
  1. Category:Canadian musicians by genre
  2. Category:Canadian musicians by province or territory
The Rob Baker (guitarist) is no longer an article. The Talk:Rob Baker (guitarist) has to reflect this by it's class=Redirect. Thank-you very much for your prompt response. It is greatly appreciated. Argolin (talk) 02:50, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tassedethe are you going to do anything with this or do I have to? Argolin (talk) 21:43, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think you'll have to as I still don't know quite what you want to happen. If it's a case of changing the class in the project tags on Talk:Rob Baker (guitarist) then go ahead. I'm not sure why you're asking me as it doesn't appear to be something that requires admin rights. Apart from having moved the page I don't have any interest in the redirect (or the article as was). Happy editing! Tassedethe (talk) 21:51, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's it: change the class to Redirect per WP:REDIRECT. Thank-you. Argolin (talk) 02:41, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Tassedethe (talk) 03:04, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for fixing my little error on Benjamin Davies; I got there by a redirect from a very similar name, and got a bit confused :P - I've done what I had intended to do and fixed the link now. Ajraddatz (Talk) 22:29, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Your correction is till a bit wrong. Deliberate links to disambiguation pages, like in this case, are always linked using the (disambiguation) redirect. This is so deliberate links stand out from accidental links that need to be corrected. This is explained at WP:INTDABLINK. Happy editing! Tassedethe (talk) 22:34, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but there is no article on the opera singer. If such an article is created then, if need be, this article can be moved and a disambiguation page created. Tassedethe (talk) 14:38, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many if not most of the links reference the opera singer, so it's against the principle of least astonishment (regularly applied at WP:R#PLA) to have the other person at the namespace-polluting title. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 20:37, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have corrected the single link I found that should have gone to the opera singer. Tassedethe (talk) 20:41, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ohio politicians

[edit]

Regardless of what situation is going on, User Hut8.5 has reverted and deleted informative articles that seemingly would help Ohio voters. Ohio House of Representatives has been reverted to be now incorrect and dated; the Template:Members of the Ohio House of Representatives has been reverted. Page moves in prep for disambiguation

[edit]

Hi. When you move pages for disambig reasons, why do you delete the original talkpage? Surely it's easier just to tag them with the disambig project tag - please see the talkpage of Chris O'Loughlin as an example. Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 17:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Until recently disambig project tags served no purpose, no one was using them to rate or track disambig pages. Disambig pages were being tracked using the dab and hndis templates. There is now an Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/Article alerts page, but old habits die hard. Tassedethe (talk) 17:30, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article No Sweat has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. joe deckertalk to me 19:24, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I missed the typo. That makes the comment I left in the edit summary irrelevant. Thank you for pointing it out. Steve Marsh

[edit]

Hi there, I see that you have deemed that Steve Marsh (footballer) is no longer the Primary topic. I think that you are relying too much on page views and not enough on long term significance. The footballer is recognised in a national hall of fame. The other is a bit-part actor and commedian. Yes, in this google world the currently active one gets the page hits, but he is clearly less notable until he at least wins a major award or similar. Please consider using RM in future rather than being bold for dabs from such diverse eras and fields. Thank you. The-Pope (talk) 04:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent clean-up of James McGovern

[edit]

Hello, Tassedethe. You recently cleaned up the page James McGovern to bring it into compliance with MOS:DAB. Thank you. However, I think you introduced one mistake. One bullet point contained a red link to James McGovern (boxer), plus one blue link to boxer. MOS:DAB says, "Red links should not be the only link in a given entry; link also to an existing article, so that a reader (as opposed to a contributing editor) will have somewhere to navigate to for additional information."

Thanks again and happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 06:19, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That rule is to ensure that the reader will find additional information on the red linked article. Boxer contains no information on James McGovern (boxer). In fact that red link is only linked from Willie Pep. It doesn't seem clear that this is in fact a boxer of any notability whatsoever. I am going to unlink his name per WP:REDLINK and remove him from the DAB page. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 06:28, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's probably the best course of action. I couldn't find any other pages that mention the boxer. Thanks again, Cnilep (talk) 06:55, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Eric West (actor)

[edit]

Hello Tassedethe. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Eric West (actor), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article is not substantially the same as the deleted version. A new deletion discussion is required. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:07, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for letting me know, Tassedethe (talk) 03:17, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on John Ackroyd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Receptie123 (talk) 15:01, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for edits but I think that in this case the disam (opera singer) is required since the only difference in the son's name is that the ő has been anglicised as oe. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:00, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if the son is the primary topic then you can redirect the ő spelling to the oe. But nothing was previously at Richárd Erdős i.e. it was a redlink, which of course is misleading as there was an article. Tassedethe (talk) 00:04, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BLP article titles and dob

[edit]

Hi

I cannot find anything that gives policy or guidelines (or a discussion) on using, or not using, dob and dod in BLP article titles. Can you possibly point me to something that I can read that will clarify this for me?

I understand that there seems to be something that happened around 2008/09 that caused a lot of articles to be retitled (e.g. [5]), and that there was a previous trend to change from (b. 1900) to (born 1900), but after spending a good 30 mins searching through policy and guidelines pages and another 20 through archived discussion, I am still none the wiser.

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 17:31, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I think I found something, WP:QUALIFIER: "The disambiguator is usually a noun indicating what the person is noted for being. Some of these are standard, commonly used tags, such as "(musician)" and "(politician)". Try to avoid abbreviations or anything capitalised or containing hyphens, dashes or numbers (apart from where more specific guidelines specify particular exceptions to that), and also try to limit the tag to a single, recognizable and highly applicable word. Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it) although this may be necessary when there are multiple people with the same name and tag, such as Andy Gray (footballer born 1955), Andy Gray (footballer born 1964), and Andy Gray (footballer born 1977)." So generally you don't use the dob or dod unless there are multiple people of same name, same occupation and perhaps same nationality. I hope that's useful. Tassedethe (talk) 17:43, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant, spot on!
As I thought, it is used predominently for disambiguating, I am thinking that dates were used to db, and now the other articles have been deleted, there is no need for them. In reality, some I have seen are sole-use of the names, and so nothing is necessary to db, neither dob nor tags.
Ah well, they are one of the lesser things on my list of things to do; though I will bear it in mind for the future - thank you for taking the time to look for that :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 02:37, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Red links article in Disambiguation page

[edit]

Hello!! Tassedethe. I am writing to you as I think you may guide me in to this query.

There are many diambiguation pages, where you can find red links like John Chambers, where you can see that names like John Chambers (footballer), John Chambers (role-playing) and John Chambers (scientist) appear, for which there are no article pages.

I had recently removed the name but have been re-instated by other editors [6] saying no,redlinks are OK when mentioned in an article and given a blue link in the dab page entry in edit summary.

Please can you guide me which is correct as per policy. Can we have names of persons on db page, who have no article in their name on wiki.

Because, if the policy allows this then there is a major flaw in Wiki policy. Anyone can add any name of any non-notable person or company in disambg page, for which no notability or citation are required.

Regards Jethwarp (talk) 03:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jethwarp. Yes it is OK to add redlinks to a DAB page. The relevant part of the guidelines is at MOS:DABRL. You can check if a redlink is linked from a different page by clicking 'What links here'. So for John Chambers (footballer) you can see[7] he is linked from Kidderminster Harriers F.C. as he was their manager. Of course if you feel that a redlink will never have an article written about them then you should remove the link, per WP:REDLINK. If you feel that the person or company is entirely non-notable then you should remove the link and text from the other article, and from the DAB page. Properly formatted DAB pages should have a relevant bluelink for each entry. So the footballer would be like so:
The other entries aren't as clear cut. I doubt an article can be written on either but they're not obviously non-notable. A better option would be to have an entry like so:
  • John Chambers, NASA scientist who posited Planet V, a hypothetical fifth planet
I hope this is useful information. Happy editing! Tassedethe (talk) 14:09, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey!! Thanks a lot for info. I appreciate it and it cleared some of my doubts Jethwarp (talk) 05:30, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary query

[edit]

You used the explanation "rm as not known as $PAGENAME" in Jan. when removing some of the items at the DK dab page. I can't make sense of the explanation.

I'm specifically interested in the "Don't Know" item, which I'd added in '09. It does sound clunky to me now, as it was written, but I still think it's valid in some updated form. Opinion appreciated. Thanks. Swliv (talk) 17:06, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages for initials often get entries in which the article linked makes no mention that it is known by those initials. E.g Compare Damon Knight with Darren Knott. My edit summary is meant to indicate that the entries removed weren't known as DK. ($PAGENAME is similar to a Unix environment variable, obviously not clear to all. It just means I can use the same edit summary for all such edits.) The Don't Know entry was removed as none of the articles linked contained information on this usage. It was also near to a dictionary definition, the link to wiktionary is provided at the top of the page. Disambiguation pages are not articles, they are navigational pages providing links to the appropriate articles. The Don't Know entry didn't have an appropriate article, apart from wiktionary, so I removed it. If you had a source for this usage then it should be added to an article, then it could be linked from the DK page. I'm not sure which article, if any, is appropriate. Category:Banking terms and equipment has some candidates. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 17:26, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's a rare but real and hitherto not recognized-as-such case of original research on my part despite the generic backing of wiktionary. The whole business sector could be extinct now with electronic securities. I guess what looked "clunky" on first revisit is, now, just out of place. Thanks for your good attentions to my loose end; and for explanations of your code. Cheers. Swliv (talk) 19:52, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Pages

[edit]

I've noticed some cases where you've moved an article (for good reason) but not the associated talk page - see Talk:Bill Hedworth (pipemaker) for example, though I'm just about to move that one to Talk:Bill Hedworth to match the article. Could you move the talk pages too in future? Keeps things tidier and easier to maintain. Many thanks for the cup of tea!--Quiet Editor (talk) 06:46, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I always move talk pages with articles. This is a problem caused by a bot User:Yobot. I moved the page on July 9, Yobot created the Talk page, in the old location, on July 11. Thanks for moving the page though. Tassedethe (talk) 12:53, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for correcting my comment. Have you reported this was a Yobot issue? If not I'll be happy to, as I've had several recent interactions with the Yobot expert (User:Magioladitis) recently.--Quiet Editor (talk) 17:41, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, I haven't reported it so if you want to go ahead. Unfortunately I didn't spot this at the time, it was a few weeks ago now. Tassedethe (talk) 17:58, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll flag it - though I suspect that the answer may be "consequence of working off a cached version of articles". Apologies, by the way, if my initial message above came across the wrong way: reading it again I see that I could have phrased it better. --Quiet Editor (talk) 18:03, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted myself and added your link to the talk page. I'm off to sort some strawberries... Peridon (talk) 21:18, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see this link: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/allen-completes-liverpool-move and make all necessary steps to ensure that the page is sorted. Thanks.

I hadn't realised I fully protected the page, that wasn't my intent. I have reduced protection so that users such as yourself can edit the page. Tassedethe (talk) 19:08, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, much appreicated.

Template:PASpeakers‎ correction

[edit]

Thank you for your good work on Template:PASpeakers‎, using Wikipedia:CLEANER. I am particularly interested in technical and automated methods of making corrections, and I was pleased to learn more about Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser at Wikimania 2012 in July. I see that your change corrected a link to a biography of a particular Speaker of the Pennsylvania House, from a link that previously went to a disambiguation page. I might explain that I have created several biographies of Speakers, and plan to create more.

Please tell me whether the CLEANER tool can find and correct the links in the template, or whether the tool starts with a particular disambiguation page, or with a particular biography. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:03, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCleaner can work both ways. You can give it a page (or a template) and have it report any links to disambiguation pages. Then you can can select the correct link from the dab page to correct the page (or template) being processed. Or you can give it a disambiguation page and find all the pages that link to it. Then you can open those to fix the links. Good luck! Tassedethe (talk) 19:09, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I will only need good luck if I start using the CLEANER myself. What I would much prefer would be if you would run the CLEANER on Template:PASpeakers‎ for me, if you have not already done so. (Of course, I don't know if you started with the template, or a disambiguation page for Charles C. Smith, or even elsewhere.) --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:18, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I already processed the template. I moved Charles C. Smith so I used WikiCleaner to retarget all the incoming links. There was just the single dab link in the template. Happy editing! Tassedethe (talk) 19:22, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you!

For all the work you've doing with disambiguating things related to the 2012 Summer Paralympics articles. :) Most excellent. Thanks. :)
