Adoption request

[edit]

Hello there, TucsonDavid! I'm Netalarm and I've been around on Wikipedia for quite some time now. It appears that you've indicated that you want to be adopted on your user page. While you can wait for an adopter to come forward and offer to adopt you, I would highly recommend that you also actively seek an adopter. From the cases I've seen, I've noticed that it is often much faster if the adoptee also actively participates in the matching process.

When choosing an adopter (click here for a list), there are a few things you'll want to check. First of all, you'll want to check if they are available. The column with the label "Adoption status" will tell you if they are able to accept more adoptees. You may also want to choose an adopter that has similar interests, which are indicated in the "Interests" column, though it is not required you do so. Once you have found an adopter you want, you may message them on their talk page and ask to be adopted. If you have any questions about this process (or about Wikipedia in general), feel free to message me on my talk page.

Puzzled at your behavior

[edit]

I am very puzzled at your behavior.

http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AJimbo_Wales&action=historysubmit&diff=399122377&oldid=399119797

With the comment, "Reverted to revision 398943497 by Wifione; 117.204.86.39's comment is unessary." you removed many people's comments. I see you use Twinkle. This seems to be a heavy handled use of twinkle when you could have merely removed 117.204.86.39's comments.

Maybe your adopter can explain better. பின்லாந்துF (talk) 00:29, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also wondering about this. This was an inappropriate use of Twinkle and would've been better handled with an undo. I'm going to clean up your mess now. Strange Passerby (talkcontribs) 01:58, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello TucsonDavid, just as a note, the revert you made would have been better handled by editing the page and removing the comment by 117.204.86.39. It would have been fine to use twinkle to do it, but other people had commented since then. Twinkle also removes their revisions, this is why this was inappropriate. I hope this helps you, --Alpha Quadrant talk 02:30, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hi TucsonDavid, the information was removed from the Miley Cyrus article because it was incorrectly formatted. I noticed that you are removing old messages from your talk page. You might wish to consider using talk archives instead, it case you ever want to look at a old messages they will be easier to find. If you want to set up a archive I could set it up for you, or I can tell you how to do it. Best, Alpha Quadrant talk 19:38, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To created page archives you add a archive box to the top of your talkpage (I have added it, if you would like it removed then you can just remove the template. The easiest (and most commonly used) way to archive a talk page is to cut old discussions from the main talk page and paste them into a subpage, the first archive being /Archive 1 the second archive /Archive 2 and so on. A new subpage is created if the archive gets too long (usually when it reaches more than 100 Kilobytes). After you paste the old messages into a archive you can add {{talkarchivenav}} to the top of the archive. There are some bots that automate archiving of talk pages, but I find it more efficient to do it myself, as the bot sometimes archives unread messages. It is not against WP:TOS for you to simply blank the page when it gets too long, in fact some administrators use this technique. However some editors see it as a courtesy if you use archives, because it is easier to find messages in archives, than in the page history. I hope this help you, --Alpha Quadrant talk 15:31, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"How come some edits don't show up in the infobox like if you wanted to add something yo like say an address" I am not sure what you are asking. Spelling and grammar are key in something like Wikipedia. I think you are asking me why some data doesn't show up in the infobox when you type it in. Infoboxes use predefined fields within a template in order to maintain standardization. Ng.j (talk) 05:49, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:17, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand how you must feel, but believe me when I say it is better to have less content than unverifiable non-notable content prompting some deletionist to put forward an Article for Deletion request. STOP

[edit]

You are making pointless edits with AWB, see [1]. Please stop. Courcelles 21:11, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AWB is tricky to learn, but just remember the rules of use, Avoid making insignificant or inconsequential edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag, converting some HTML to Unicode, removing underscores from links (unless they are bad links), bypassing a redirect, or something equally trivial. Courcelles 21:17, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you using the AWB clean up function on user talk pages? This has to stop. ~NerdyScienceDude 21:36, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Very easy - I'll do it in a minute  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done It will fill each archive to 125K size, always leave three threads showing, only archive when there are two or more threads to do which are older than 14d. You can change the bold items by editing the page. You now have two archive boxes - delete the one you don't like - the original one needs to have the links manually added, the new one does it automatically, but just shows the archive numbers.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your query on how to become an administrator

[edit]
  • Well, the current trend at RfA seems to focus on how well have you added content (GAs, FAs, DYKs...) to Wikipedia and how well have you contributed across forums in a quasi administrative profile (for example, CSD, UAA, AIV, NPP...). I've seen recent editors apply for RfAs right after their 5000th edit too; and one year is considered an enough experience on Wikipedia if you've done the stuff appropriately. Your multi-colored signature might not be taken well on English Wikipedia if you apply for an RfA (and I'm speaking from personal experience; lol). As for me, I had 6000 edits, a little more than one year experience, 2 DYKs, 0 FAs, 0 GAs but a load of quasi-admin experience when I applied for adminship. I have a box on my main user page which I'm recreating out here for you. Feel free to ask me for further help. I hope to see you as an administrator in some time post your gaining the requisite experience. Wifione ....... Leave a message 04:41, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Brigadier General Kevin Jacobsen

[edit]

Hello David, the article has been moved to Kevin J. Jacobsen as ranks are subject to change over an officer's career. Also, the article is still between Start and C-class, and is mainly being held back by a lack of citations of published sources. A good reference for a similar article that is in a farther stage of development is David Petraeus. I hope this helps. KimChee (talk) 02:00, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your addition of a non-free image to this article. Per WP:NFCC this is not an acceptable non-free use as someone could in theory take a photo of her and upload it as a free use image. It is appropriate to use such a non-free image in a character article such as Flo (Progressive Insurance). Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 22:19, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One other point, it appears that your signature does not comply with the sig guidelines: per WP:SIGLINK it should contain a clickable link to your user page, user talk page or your user contributions. – ukexpat (talk) 14:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Harold Camping

[edit]

Hi! I want to let you know, in case you want to pursue an AfD, that I removed the speedy deletion tag ({{db-person}}) that you added to Harold Camping. Being "president of Family Stations, Inc., a California-based religious broadcasting network [with] more than 150 outlets in the United States" is an assertion of significance that is sufficient, in my opinion, to pass the minimum requirement of CSD A7. Also, the article survived two previous AfDs: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harold Camping and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harold Camping (2nd nomination). Hey :). Wifione ....... Leave a message

Every statement in the submission is fact. There is no opinion in the piece. It is supoprted by the fact the the U.S. DOJ and DOD introduced legislation to create the first orgnaization to even offer such a degree. An essay, as defined in Wilipedia is a writen from the author's point of view. This is neither an articale or short story. It is neither prose nor verse. It is factual and very sterile. I find gross inconsitency in the way these criteria are applied. FabianB3 (talk) 21:43, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey TucsonDavid - I thought that it may be beneficial to leave you a personal note about your recent AfD. Unfortunately, articles in the Wikipedia talk: are not discussed at WP:AfD but at MfD. Request for help with article submission/ review: Padmaja Phenany Joglekar

[edit]

Hello TucsonDavid,

Thank you for taking the time to review my submission. This is in response to the Article on Padmashri Padmaja Phenany Joglekar being declined as per the notability guidelines.

Here are some additional links that indicate the notability of the artist, her albums and achievements - one of which is being awarded the "Padmashree" - Government of India's fourth highest civilian honor. Additionally, per the notability guidelines for musicians - here are links that establish notability for this musician:

1. Has released two or more albums on a major label -

http://www.fountainmusiccompany.com/search.asp?q=padmaja&Submit=Search

2. Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or TV network -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQy5CX-1TB0 ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnXTIxCB6Gs

Please let me know if this satisfies the notability guidelines to be granted a wikipedia entry.

This artist is known for her work in a regional Indian language (Marathi) and has been widely acclaimed in regional language media. Since online archives for these are unavailable - I'd appreciate it if you could give me some pointers on including them for establishing notability the purpose of this article.

Thanks, Wikipal19 (talk) 13:15, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TucsonDavid. The template you added at that image says: “This file may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion as this file is copied from http://www.tineye.com/search/5dbaae7643193b00892692e405191f3d0239543e/?pluginver=firefox-1.1, which does not have a license compatible with Wikipedia, and the uploader does not assert fair use or make a credible assertion of permission”

So what is tineye? The image wasn't originally copied from that source at all, was it? And a Fair use template was used when it was uploaded. Is that no longer enough? Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:11, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, I'm Srich32977. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Bradley Manning seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Note that Srich opened a discussion on Talk:Bradley Manning earlier concerning the disagreement the two of you are having. I would suggest that you make your arguments there so that other editors may see and possibly participate. Best to get things worked out on the talk page without the reverting.

A bit of colored ribbon

[edit]

Napoleon was reviewing the troops one day and he asked the commanding field marshal to show him the bravest troop in his command. A private was trotted out and he reported to the Emperor. Napoleon took one of his own medals off his chest and pinned it onto the private. Of course, the troops in review went wild! Here you go, David. I'm no Napolean, but I do have an extra bit of colored ribbon to inspire your continued and most excellent editing efforts. I present this with the hope that you will add it to your userbox.

Adminship

[edit]

I saw your note on HJ Mitchell's page. I'd add some thoughts if I may. Ultimately this place is an encyclopedia and doing some writing is I believe worthwhile for everyone. Aiming for DYK, GA or even FA can be daunting, but is often helpful at showing others how you negotiate with people, and how flexible and thoughtful you can be. Furthermore, this place is screaming for reviewers. Reviewers needn't be experts - maybe take a few minutes every so often to scan down Wikipedia:Peer review and make a comment or two on anything which interests you. I guarantee the editors will be very grateful. Anyway, I can help with DYK/GA/FA article editing. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:37, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this article lacks a lead section: it should start by telling us who he is and why he's notable, usually in the format "Ronald Rodgers (dates) is a [nationality] [role in which notable] ... ". At present I considered tagging it with "CSD A-7" as "no indication of notability". PamD 07:29, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, the title was correctly formatted as Office of the Pardon Attorney. Caps are not used for minor words such as "of" and "the" - neither on its own website nor in Wikipedia. Please do not rush into making changes without carefully checking that you're doing it right - a simple check of the other items in the category Category:United States Department of Justice agencies (with small "a") would have shown you the pattern to follow. PamD 06:49, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I wanted to let you know I moved this article to the mainspace - I'm really not sure why it went through the AfC process, but when I tried starting the article it had that template (even though I've created hundreds in the past and have been editing for years). I saw that you declined the AfC, but I think that's simply a misunderstanding of NSPORTS (Dario played in fully-pro leagues such as the Mexican Primera and Campeonato Paulista and he played internationally for Brazil). Best regards and sorry for the confusion. Jogurney (talk) 13:00, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello TucsonDavid, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/PDF Printer for iPad, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not unambiguously promotional. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 13:23, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on my Articles for creation/Dynic USA Corporation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. "This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic." I am trying to create an article for this company that is not unambiguous advertising or overly promotional.
