Serial comma userbox update

Thanks for your Userbox update notice. I've updated my page to point to your new link. Very cool Userbox, by the way. :) Chikinsawsage 07:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:Inactive Rockbox bot?

Uh, it says October 12, 2006. And what page are you lookin at? There no edits since then whatsoever. -- Reaper X 03:42, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Ah geez, okay, I know what you're talkin about now. I thought you were referring to my bot account, ReaperBot X, so thats why I was confused. I made that template for my bot account in my "Rockbox", which is just a play on the name for my sandbox, and I didnt realize it might fool people. So yea, there is no problem. I'll go and remove it now, thanks for lookin out chap. Cheers. -- Reaper X 16:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Typical Tennessean

There's no such thing as a typical Tennessean, or a typical anyone from anywhere. I'd like to think we're all unique. Specifically regarding my home state, however, I hope you're not one of those who thinks "Tennessee" and conjures up an image of hillbillies lying around on bales of hay drinking moonshine with their shoes off, yelling at their 7 children (Billy Joe, Billy Ray, Billie Jean, Bobbie Sue, Billy Jack, Billy Bob and Wilmer, the baby) and trying to figure out how to get the brakes working on the 1968 Chevelle so they can take it down off the blocks in the front yard. You'd be very surprised at how cosmopolitan we can be. Check out the article Nashville, Tennessee. We have running water and everything. Iamvered 17:20, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and what's wrong with my picture? I think I'm cute. Moreover, I'm just curious... how did you arrive at my picture to suggest it for deletion? Iamvered 17:20, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey

Thanks for taking up the task =) It's looking much better than how it used to be! The stuff translated so far is quite understandable in English, so don't fret. There's no particular rush for this article to be translated, so feel free to take your time. Cheers~ enochlau (talk) 12:10, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Steinbeck pages

hi -- thanks for the note. Yes, it certainly looks like Catbird222 is pushing some POV agenda, although I can't quite tell what the point is. I'll try to keep an eye on those edits, too. thanks! bikeable (talk) 23:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Newyorkbrad's RfA

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

Pietra

Hi there, I would just like to say a big thanks for cleaning up the English translation of the French article on the Pietra brewery. It now reads a lot less like an advertisement and is better referenced. Your input is much appreciated, thanks again Jono 00:44, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Desk

I've seen you a lot lately on the Desk! Great work helping people! [Mαc Δαvιs] X (How's my driving?)07:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Yep, I've been there for almost a year now, on Science, Mathematics, Language, Humanities, and Misc. [Mαc Δαvιs] X (How's my driving?)18:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Creating new subsections to edit

Some browsers on slow laptops with little memory will slow down when editing a large page. So what people do is create a new section by placing a section header. Mediawiki will then allow you to edit only that section. Another advantage is that editing by section also prevents edit conflicts while typing, which is a great bonus.

So always check if a header wasn't placed just five minutes ago. Else you'll cause an unexpected edit conflict (which then also fubars the browser for a minute while it tries to then load up the entire page anyway - twice!). So like, please be considerate of your old-laptop toting brethern? Thanks! :-) --Kim Bruning 08:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't have a [+] link at the top of my page. And making a new section this way has always worked before. Don't assume everyone has the same browser/computer/skin/access/time zone/etc you have! --Kim Bruning 08:48, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
I thought I'd better be all-inclusive, people tend to assume a lot of things, these days. :-) --Kim Bruning 08:54, 1 February 2007 (UTC) If I'm going to be all-inclusive a lot, does that mean I can start using templates to answer people? Ooooh, scary thought!

Assistance

My userpage has been protected because I refused to give to these people. Why do users have the right to have "I support Israel" userboxes or "I support the United States of America", while "I support armed resistance" is considered provocative? Please help. Embargo 19:17, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I have just seen the noticeboard and I will go on with your first proposal. Thank you for standing up against injustice. Embargo 11:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

East of Eden

hi Twas, thanks for the link. It looks like the copyright stuff is pretty much cut and dried, as I expected -- Catbird's rationale for removing info is just silly. I guess the best thing to do is just to keep an eye on it. I reverted some of Catbird's edits a few days ago, and I'll keep watching. Soon we should start handing out warnings for vandalism, I guess. Unfortunately there are a whole slew of people making funny edits to this article, and Nancy Steinbeck, and others, and it's quite a hassle. thanks for keeping on top of it! best, bikeable (talk) 20:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Grand Lycée & question

Thanks for campaining, and also for doing this much work on the Grand Lycee article. More people like you are needed on Wikipedia.

As for the userbox, can I replace it with "This user supports resistance against Israeli hostilities" ? as you suggested on the noticeboard. Embargo 18:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Music album notability

Many thanks for your suggestions with the album notability. I've read it and it looks really good, so maybe we good work at merging the 2 together somehow? I'm going to have to go to bed now (work tomorrow!) so make any changes you want to my page and we can discuss it tomorrow thanks again RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 00:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Seeking concensus on proposed merger at Talk:Classics. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 00:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Canadian indie music

I noticed you like to improve articles on the subject. I was wondering if you could add anything to Bachman-Turner Overdrive or Randy Murray or add more info to this sentence

They reunited in the 1980s, leading to a lawsuit between the brothers, as one group, led by Randy, toured as Bachman-Turner Overdrive and another, led by Robbie, toured as BTO (Robbie Bachman, Fred Turner, Blair Thornton, and Randy Murray).

It's found at the BTO site.

Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 00:53, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I need to point out "assume good faith" to you in terms of your replies on the science desk.

Also using a bit of common sense you could have guessed that you had not made a big hit with the questionare and "Yes, I bet you are female. How did I underestimate your intention to gain more knowledge? Through the process of questionizationing? Oh I love verbal superfluousness." is not a peace-maker. An apology would have been better.

If you feel this is not right please feel free to discuss it at Wikipedia_talk:Reference_desk#No.

I have noticed that we do sometimes get 'creepy' questions - so I'm not attempting tp judge you for pointing it out.. But when you are asked not to respond further - I suggest that you do so - or again if you feel you have been treated unfairily - bring it up on the talk page.83.100.158.135 15:51, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I have posted a reply at User talk:83.100.158.135#Are you the original Wellbrutrin inquirer?Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 16:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello again - no I was not the original question asker - nor did I give any of the replies to that question. You are right that you too suffered a personal attack.

I think though that your initial statement "...find this creepy" may have precipitated the conflict. Given that someone clearly took offense at your comment the best course of action woudl have either to apologise or take no further part in the discussion or report the incident.

"Yes, I bet you are female..." is not an apology in any way and is not civil either. I can only suggest that you bring the subject up on the reference desk talk pages for further feedback or use one of the other many methods for reporting problems (you can easily find out about these by asking at the help desk..) The other user (or users) did not behave well either. Sorry.83.100.158.135 16:34, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

(reply to your message)(PS could you reply on the reference desk talk page please as my IP address sometimes changes and I may miss your messages.) Quoting your message to me here:

"How is "Yes, I bet you are female" uncivil? It was an honest statement, and I think it is an assumption of bad faith if one attributes a sarcastic tone to it."

sarcasm is the problem I think. i.e. your response to the questioner seemed sarcastic.83.100.158.135 17:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:List of non-admins with high edit counts

Many thanks for putting my name on Wikipedia:List of non-admins with high edit counts, of course adminship is something I strive too! My only concern at the minute is that I've only been on the project since october and probably quite rightly so, people would oppose me for this. My aim is to keep my edit count up over the next few months and then hopefully someone will nominate me! I'm definately going to leave my name on the list. On another matter, how do you feel we proceed with our album notability proposal? There hasn't been many rejections of the idea, however, at the same time there hasn't been loads of support, and lets face it if we're bold and simply add it into WP:BAND its going to cause uproar! Your imput would be welcomed as to how we proceed. Thanks again RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 21:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm more than happy with the latest edit (remember (although I'm sure you will) to remove all the bold bits from it!). I think this works far better than the current guidline RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 22:19, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Free use images on user pages

Why not? --Candy-Panda 09:03, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

It just tells me I shouldn't do it but it doesn't tell me why. --Candy-Panda 09:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I guess Wikipedia has a right to make those kind of silly rules without justifying them, and I guess we all just have to suck it up. I have one question though, if a person takes a picture of a product (eg, a can of coke) and then uploads it to Wikipedia, would the picture be considered "fair use"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Candy-Panda (talkcontribs) 10:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC).

Not on deletion sorting

There's also Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sexuality and gender, which the project is trying to get everyone to check and use... I'm not sure everyone's using it, but whenever someone pops up on WT:LGBT and mentions a deletion discussion, I'll probably be letting them know about it. ;-) This is not to say that the project talk page can't be used, but there is a dedicated place for these things. — coelacan talk10:25, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Psychedelic vs. dissociative comments

I have commented on the categorization dispute between you and User:Jolb. − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 00:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank-you very much for your insightful comments. This issue was going on for a particularly long time (nearly three weeks) without any other wikipedian involvement. As noted, I'm a little too close to the categorization scheme, so having others involved is quite important. (BTW, as for cannabis as an anti-psychotic, I did place cannabidiol in with the anti-psychotics). Thanks again :) --Thoric 00:08, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Gauss-Lucas theorem

Thanks for the proofreading, that was the first article I've ever translated, and my first time writing anything for Wikipedia (and I decide to translate a mathematical theorem...) well, thanks again. --M.schwed 04:37, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Twas Now,

The appropriate title of the wavefunction article is currently debated on its talk page. All participating in the discussion seem to agree that the correct title should be "wave function", but there seems to be some uncertainty as to whether this is indeed the case. What is your opinion on the matter? MacGuy(contact me) 13:24, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I believe it should be "wave function" as two words. Also Rpbigger makes an excellent point. I enjoyed reading this article, but she is correct that the phrase "wave function" does not only apply to quantum mechanics. For example, consider electromagnetism. In general, a wave function is a solution to a partial differential (wave) equation... How the heck did I end up here? I saw your edits to breast implant and thank you for them, and particularly your inclusion of the photograph of extracapsular rupture (which I uploaded). A single editor who makes his living puttin' em in, so to speak, has claimed ownership of the article, making it very contentious.. But one of my interests now is homeowners association which you may or may not find enlightening. Nothing like suspense and intrique. One day I will write a book entitled "Hostile Takeover" and "How to Embezzle a Million Dollars". One day (when I am 80) I will figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Until then, my avocations and vocations are rather eclectic, as you can see. Maybe I should learn French. All I know how to say is "I don't speak French."  ;-) Jance 03:39, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
