The term "Azerbaijani"
[edit]Do you know if there has been any extensive discussion on Wikipedia about the use/misuse of this word. It is my opinion that an "Azerbaijani" is a citizen of Azerbaijan. The republic of Azerbaijan did not exist before May 1918, so nobody prior to that date could be called an "Azerbaijani" (they would either be ethnic Tartars (or ethnic Azeri Tartars) or ethnic Armenians, and so on). And, furthermore, it could be argued that anybody who was a citizen of Azerbaijan after that date, even if they were Armenian or Georgian, could also legitimately be called an "Azerbaijani". Aram Andonian
[edit]Hello VartanM,
I have asked a question about Aram Andonian which received no answer, and the article still contains the line "[Aram Andonian] worked for the Young Turk government during World War I. Andonian served in the department of military censorship" which I have not read anywhere else... Is it correct ? Since he was arrested on April 24th, 1915 (according to Yves Ternon, Enquête sur la négation d'un génocide, amongst others), it is highly unrealistic (to say the least) that he was working fot the military censorship, or am I missing something ? I am sorry to bother you, but I thought that my question was too specific to flood the WikiProject Armenia and anyway you answer most questions there ;)) And you edited the article on Aram Andonian not long ago.
Best regards,
--Moumine70 (talk) 21:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC) (if you want to answer, it is better to do it on my French talk page...)
- Ok, don't worry, this "information" has been in the article for such a long time that one or two weeks more will not make a big difference. Thank you and best regards, --Moumine70 (talk) 09:21, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hey! Why are you repeatedly changing my contributions (to the articles Armenian National Committee of America, David Mayer de Rothschild, and Bilderberg Group), and saying that I don't provide references and reliable sources? CfD on Category:Holocaust deniers
[edit]I'm afraid you can't do that. You can't just add an unrelated category to a CfD discussion. Imagine if it was an AfD discussion; someone nominated an article about soup for deletion then a few days later you added an article about football. That just wouldn't work. If you really want to nominate Holocaust deniers then you'll need to nominate it separately. Note however that the category survived a CfD discussion in April last year. Tonywalton Talk 23:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Re: Canvassing

- Right "a little help" is biraz yardim, a little help in directing me to the right way to propose a CfD, it was my first time. I didn't say, a little help in voting on delete, as I told you there is nothing like that in the messages. Regardless, I'll be more careful and write it in English next time. I didn't propose to anyone to make a SPA account, that could be anyone or even someone who is a wikipedian but just never bothered to make an account, so please understand that you don't need to jump to conclusions. If I was trying to be low and dirty, I would bring in 200 people from my fraternities and organizations I know to make posts, and you would see a link to that page on many websites, but I am not trying to "cheat" my way, plus it's not about numbers, it's about the strength of the argument and I know my argument for deletion is simply flat out better than yours for keeping it. I'll understand if you disagree. — talk § _Arsenic99_ 22:02, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Disrespectful comments targeting Armenians
[edit]Hi,
Sorry to take your time. I came across this edit [3] today in which the user is making some derogatory comments towards Armenia and some other countries that borders on racism, caliming that Armenia is a non-historical and weak entity. Of course such claims for me who have been fortunate enough to read about the history of Armenia from Tigranes the Great all the way to the Armenian Genocide is simply ludicrous. I think this is very unfortunate and believe this user should be given a strong warning to refrain from such behaviour in the future. Regards.Heja Helweda (talk) 22:30, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think this user is obsessed with me. I totally recognize the Armenian Genocide. I believe the small countries of the caucus are weak entities (relative to Iran) and they are played sometimes with bigger powers. The breakup of big countries is the aim of some groups in order to create smaller and controllable entities. There is no disrespect to any of these countries and I harbor no ill feelings to the average citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, even if once in a while there is discussion on history matters that I might not agree with some of the citizens of these countries. Sorry for any disrespect if there was any, but I believe the above user is just trying to create bad-will. --alidoostzadeh (talk) 03:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- I, in my own minor way, will vouch for Ali. His statement, in no way, was meant to libel Armenians or Armenia. Kansas Bear (talk) 03:26, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

It's a work in progress. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 03:36, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- looks good but I think we need to make it so that if we but Artsakh=yes when putting the WPAM template that the other template pops up but when it's not there the other template doesn't pop up. The way I've currently got it with this test template is that there is an if statement inside such that if we set Artsakh=yes then the Artsakh task force pops up inside the WPAM template I sort of copied how the WPMILHIST template works. I suppose the alternative is to have a completely separate template but this may generate more wikicontroversy ;). Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:29, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Karabakh task force template
[edit]Hi Vartan, yes that's what I was refering. There is also another example with theMilitary History WikiProject template. The template in my user space can already do this:
{{User:Pocopocopocopoco/Template:TEST|Artsakh=yes}} shows the Nagorno-Karabakh task force
{{User:Pocopocopocopoco/Template:TEST}} would show the WPAM template without the Nagorno-Karabakh task force.
I believe the problem was with the formating that the task force flag would show up small. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pocopocopocopoco (talk • contribs) 04:14, 23 July 2008

Hayq, Sari
[edit]Thanks very much for your comprehensive explanation. So basically "Hayq, Sari" is a brand name that can be rendered in English as "Armenia Mountain Spring Water". Right? Still, I am unsure how to correctly render the comma between Hayq and Sari in English. Please do me a favor and look at the two photos of the spring water bottles here. Could you please transcribe into Latin script for me the Armenian text on the labels -- at least the parts that are legible? That will be a great help. Thanks again. --Zlerman (talk) 10:25, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the next round of clarifications. Maybe they have two brands, one called "Hayq" and the other "Sari", distributed in different bottles? David Bek's rebelion against Iran
[edit]Hi I wrote something on David bek's talk page: Guys let's see it this way. I do not know what kiesling says. But it is certainly true that david bek fought against the Iranian rule in Zangaezur. As Iran was associated with the Shia Muslim Turkic people in Zangezur it is very probable that this population was targetted. It is very opportunistic to claim to fight Safavid rule, when the Safavid Iran was invaded by Afghans and Ottoman Turks. This sheds some line in whose camp he initally fought. Shia Musliems were an enemy of the Ottomans (and Afghans) and traditionally favored by the Safavids. No offense intended though. I know David bek is a national hero in Armenia, no offense but these facts are facts. History is history. Just be sincere about it and let it be as it is --Babakexorramdin (talk) 22:45, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject, or I happen to know personally).
I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.
If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.
Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:36, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

1RR does not apply when reverting vandalism, see my explanation here WP:VANDAL states: "Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. Vandalism cannot and will not be tolerated." Grandmaster by his own admission was making deliberate false changes to the article. The change from Tatar to Azeri is equal to the change of Roman to Italian, Gaul to French, Urartian to Armenian, Dutchy to German etc. Grandmaster's change compromises Wikipedias integrity as a reliable encyclopedia.
Decline reason:
The revert was not vandalism; it was clearly something you disagreed with. — Stifle (talk) 12:29, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Request reason:
Lets say someone was to change Roman to Italian, would that be vandalism? Or considered disruption? Would that user get a block?
Decline reason:
That's a question, not an unblock request. — Sandstein 19:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Request reason:
I was blocked for reverting deliberate addition of false information to the article. Changing Roman to Italian is a perfectly good example of what happened.
Decline reason:
No, this is a content dispute, not vandalism. "I am right" is not an excuse for reverting. If you continue to make such requests, your block will be extended. — Sandstein 21:05, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

- How are you under 1RR ?-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 14:16, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I was placed under it in December of 2007. VartanM (talk) 19:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, without a time limit?-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 20:07, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I was placed under it in December of 2007. VartanM (talk) 19:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- The AA1 had 1 year limit, the AA2 was supposed to based on AA1. So, you might be right, my 1RR restriction may have expired. VartanM (talk) 20:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- You can be placed under it again, but the admin has to specify for how long (like Moreschi did with Marshall recently). You need to specify this in the unblock request. Seems like a mistake was made.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 20:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

You are placed under indefinite 1RR
[edit]To resolve the question related to the status of the sanctions imposed on you, and taking into consideration the discussion and your unblock requests above, in which you show yourself unable to distinguish between vandalism and content disagreements, I am placing you under an 1RR restriction of indefinite duration with respect to all pages related to Armenia and Azerbaijan, pursuant to Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2#Amended Remedies and Enforcement section 1.
