Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Wikipedia. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you.

You have made several edits to the page about INTO University Partnerships, all of which included deletion of references. Please do not remove references to legitimate sources, even if you don't believe the text referring to the reference is not supported by the reference. Try instead to revise the text rather than remove it and the reference completely. Sangwine (talk) 16:54, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Sangwine's edits

[edit]

Three edits were made in good faith. One of these edits (not several) included deletion of a reference.

The first edit

[edit]

A statement was removed which had a citation referencing a page which had no information supporting the statement. You have restored this and therefore need to provide a reference which supports the statement. The source may be reliable but is not a legitimate source of information regarding the statement. Please read the page referenced to confirm the fact that it does not support the statement and then provide a correct citation. Otherwise this statement should be deleted.

The second and third edits

[edit]

These were not deletions but provided additional information supported by accurate citations. There appears to be no legitimate reason for deleting these additions. Vincentvangolf (talk) 22:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response to response

[edit]

OK, I've checked again, and note that you are correct. Only the first edit removed a reference (to a THE article). I accept that your edits were done in good faith. Sangwine (talk) 19:43, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Connection to Christopher Ireland?

[edit]

Do you have a connection to Christopher Ireland? ElKevbo (talk) 03:10, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm associated with Dr Ireland and Prof English. Why do you ask?
It would be useful if you could desist from promoting the link to the university repository. It is now unmonitored so when academics ask questions about work originally published there they receive no response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vincentvangolf (talkcontribs) 23:37, June 5, 2021 (UTC)
First, if you have an association with them then you probably shouldn't be adding their publications to articles; I'll place further details below. Second, we're not here to promote these authors or their work so linking to their social network presence is not our job especially when their university makes a more reputable space available. Third, you should not be edit warring to add these links or make any other edits; please see WP:RBI and WP:EW. Edit warring when you have a conflict of interest is particularly poor taste. COI warning

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Vincentvangolf. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ElKevbo (talk) 03:50, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am not promoting their work I am making it possible for their peers to access them to discuss their work. Academics should be available to discuss their work, don't you agree?

I should add that these two and myself are all former employees of the university and now retired.

I am very comfortable that I am complying fully with all of the above 'Warnings'.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited FA Youth Cup Finals of the 1970s, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gary Collier. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:07, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
