Please stop adding "indie rock" to the genres of The White Stripes. It is not a part of the band's musical characteristics. Their roots don't even lie in the indie scene, White was in a straight forward garage rock band The Go previously. It seems to be put there in spite to try and associate the band with "hipsters" or something of the like.

If you can find a quote of Jack White saying "yes, we are an indie rock band" feel free to add it back then by all means. - Deathrocker 21:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I think the main problem is the term "indie" is its so non-specific that it doesn't have anything to do with musical characteristics... there are "brutal death metal" bands for example, who release audio via indipendent labels; but that doesn't mean bands should have "indie" as a genre just because the means of which they release material.
Folk rock, blues rock, garage rock describe the MUSICAL characteristics of what their music is. I don't see the problem with mentioning that they have released alot of music via indipendant label's somewhere in the article, but not in the genre box. - Deathrocker 22:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
