2022 AHS lead

[edit]

Hi there, I wondered why you changed the first sentence of the article. The version you reverted back to had four instances of the term "average", and one "near-normal", which doesn't help the reader at all explain the season. At least if you start with the bit about 1997, you say right away how unusual the season was, rather than giving the reader the impression that it was an entirely normal season. Hell, having just Ian made it one of the costliest seasons on record. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:37, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I'll change it back and thanks for telling me. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 17:43, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I just didn't think the previous opening sentence was very good. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:18, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. The reason why I changed it was because if the opening sentence said that it was the first season during a la nina year to not have any tropical cyclone during August, the readers might think that the 2022 season wasn't too bad, so I wanted to start with the statistics of the season first. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 18:27, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I completely get that mentality. Remember that a lot of readers will see the infobox first, so they're already going to see the stats. You also don't want to frontload too much information that it might turn away readers with a bunch of words that don't mean much other than the season was statistically average. I'd be just as fine with mentioning Ian in the first sentence, since that's arguably the most important storm of the season. That's how the 1992 season handles it. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:35, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I understand. I guess you could mention something like "Hurricane Ian accounted for nearly all the major damage this season" or something like that in the first sentence. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 18:37, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But that's the thing, as significant as Ian was, Fiona was also pretty significant. That's why I changed the opening sentence to something unique about the season to draw in the readers. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:49, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks! Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 18:59, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. I 'm just not clear on where exactly to put the attribution. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 23:46, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Happy new year to you too! Thank you, and I hope to collaborate with you in the future as well! Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 22:59, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikieditorperson1! You seem to have an interest in weather-related articles on Wikipedia. So, I wanted to let you know about the ongoing discussions in relation to fixing the List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes section about possible F5/EF5/T10+ tornadoes officially rated F4/EF4/T9 or lower. Some individual tornado discussions have already been formally closed, but most others remain open. Elijahandskip (talk) 05:31, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! I'll read over the open ones when I get time, and see if I can add to them. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 12:24, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

January 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hi Wikieditorperson1! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at 2022–23 South Pacific cyclone season that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Carpimaps (talk) 13:28, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me. I think I might have mis-clicked or something. Sorry. I understand now. Wikieditorperson1 (talk) 13:31, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is to inform you that there is an ongoing discussion, which is proposal to 100% scrap (delete) the two possible F5/EF5/T10+ lists on the List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes article. Feel free to participate here! Elijahandskip (talk) 20:04, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
