Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Michigan Wolverines football, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you.

It's great that you've registered an account but if you continue to remove legitimate content as you did when you were editing as an IP, you will simply get blocked again. Please do not remove valid sources. JohnInDC (talk) 10:53, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I am going through your edits as a new user I am disappointed to see that you are making precisely the same flawed ones as you did before, for example this one i which - as you did before, you update the football team's overall series record without fixing the table and thereby introduce an internal inconsistency in the article. Given that you were blocked previously for this very behavior, and persist in it, I am leaving a level 4 warning. JohnInDC (talk) 11:01, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your last warning. The next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. JohnInDC (talk) 11:01, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template messages can be quite impersonal so I will add my own personal plea that you please stop with your sloppy and disruptive editing such as 1) making questionable substantive changes without explaining them (e.g. removing Penn State's pre-Big 10 hockey record without removing other teams' pre-Big 10 hockey records, see here ); 2) stop removing legitimate, non-redudant sources for no stated reason, see here, and 3) making edits that create confusion within an article by causing it not to match up to itself, see here. I think it is self-evidenct why edits like that are problematic but if you would like to discuss any of them, I would be happy to. On the other hand, if you continue, and particularly if you continue in them without discussion, the odds are high that you will simply be blocked again - and this time for a longer period. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 11:20, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A similar problematic edit is changing the "first year" of the AP Poll in the Pac 12 article to 1936 when the AP poll article notes that the first AP poll was published in 1934. Link. Do not make edits to articles that contradict information in other articles. JohnInDC (talk) 12:49, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong information again

[edit]

Why do you persist in making sloppy, wrong edits like this one? The streak is the second longest in college football. Second longest, not third. You make these kinds of mistakes so frequently I am beginning to question your competence to edit the encyclopedia. As I've said before, if you can't edit correctly, then don't edit. It makes Wikipedia worse, not better. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 18:19, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit, wikilinking Michigan football player John Walker to a page listing a couple score of people also named "John Walker" is not helpful, and in fact makes things worse than no link at all. A person seeing the blue link would click on it and be taken to a page with a confusing plethora of "John Walkers", and have no idea whether any of them is the one he's looking for. Please either link to the right person, or don't link at all. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 11:54, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of unsourced material

[edit]

I've just reverted a couple of edits you made to List of Big Ten Conference national championships, in which you changed the figures there to match championships "claimed" by the schools. You need sources for edits like that - if a school "claims" 32 championships instead of - say, 37 - provide a link to the claim. Otherwise 1) other editors can only take your word for it and 2) in a year or two there's no way of checking to see if the number should be any different. I have commented to you before on this. You must provide reliable sources for your edits, particularly ones that change specific figures or other detailed information in articles. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 11:59, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is especially important given that, in the past, you have substituted incorrect information into articles for the correct information that was already there. You must show where you are getting the information from. JohnInDC (talk) 12:00, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of college men's basketball coaches with 600 wins, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nazareth College (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Unsourced substantive changes

[edit]

Recently you made an edit to Ohio State Buckeyes football in which you, among other things, changed the name of the coach of the year trophy, the number of times Woody Hayes had won it, and the school's ranking in number conference titles. Link. You did not provide sources for any of these or your other changes. While sometimes your edits are well-informed, in other instances (as I've noted above), they're just flat wrong. Given the lack of sourcing for the foregoing edits, I've reverted them. Please feel free to reinstate them if you can provide proper sources. Thanks. This is the fourth time (at least) that you have, without explanation, removed the same valid references - which do not appear elsewhere in the article - without explanation. Hi Wkoppel. You seem to be an active editor of Big Ten-related content. Your edits would be even more impactful if paired with citations where appropriate. Not sure if this is obvious to you or not, but your (recent) edit history has some examples of content changes where a citation would be very helpful to the reader. While your edits might be entirely correct (they're beyond my understanding of the specific content), they are even better when paired with verifiable sources. See WP:Cite and WP:V. Note, it is poor form to remove tags intended to flag content for improvement, as you did here and here without either fixing the issue or engaging in some discussion. Cheers, UW Dawgs (talk) 16:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide edit summaries. Please provide citations for your edits. Please stop removing content without any explanation. This kind of mistake is also frequently the result of slipshod, hasty editing wherein the editor does not take the time to check that his edits actually accomplish what he intends them to. I have noted several instances in the past where you added incorrect information to articles - if it weren't for bots double-checking your work, these errors would likely go entirely undetected. Again your sloppy editing does not improve the encyclopedia and I ask, yet again, that you take greater care, and pride, in your work. JohnInDC (talk) 11:05, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

August 2014 - not paying attention

[edit]

I have asked you repeatedly in the past to pay attention to your edits to ensure that they do not introduce misinformation into articles. With this edit, you changed the Michigan Wolverine's no-shutout streak to an incorrect number, removed an explanatory footnote, mischaracterized the edit in your edit summary - and did not comment on the article's Talk page, where the very issue had been thoroughly discussed previously. This is irresponsible editing. You make far too many edits for any one person to double check (I quit quite some time ago) and changes like that last one do not inspire confidence at all. Youi have got to do better. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 15:13, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Etiquette

[edit]

I see that you have been registered and editing on Wikipedia for over a year, and am glad that you have chosen to volunteer to help the community improve the content here. I notice that various editors have been trying to engage you with good faith editing advice. While nobody is expected to be a perfect editor, etiquette on Wikipedia asks that you respond to others queries and work with others to build consensus. Repeatedly failing to address others comments can grow to be disruptive, and tendentious editing can develops ill will. It's considered proper etiquette to be willing to work with your fellow editors. Not sure if you are getting proper notification of any of these messages on your talk page, so it would be helpful to at least acknowledge that you received this message.
