Discovery date of the Egg Nebula
[edit]Hi – in October I removed the discovery date for the Egg Nebula in the List of protoplanetary nebulae, with the edit summary “remove discovery date for Egg Nebula (the article doesn't specify this, and instead mentions detailed observations in the 70s”, and you reinstated it (with the edit summary “Apparently joriki removed the discovery date of egg nebula, so added it”). I’m aware that in astronomy observations can sometimes precede discovery dates if they aren’t considered to have discovered the object, but it seems somewhat implausible that “its peculiar properties were first described in 1975”, as the article currently states, and yet it’s considered to have been discovered only in 1996. If this is correct, the discovery date should be mentioned in the article, and perhaps the apparent contradiction explained. Otherwise, either the article or the list needs to be corrected. - While I researched it I saw that it add a text that did say "around the 70's" but since you can't delete it and it would be weird to revert it
- But it did say 1971 to 1975 but you said it was discovered only in 1996 so the gap would be around 25 years
- I am not mad but also glad you texted since I didn't know would you be mad or sad or making you look bad and if I could time travel I would of said to my past me to not include you in the edit summary
- Also I'm happy you commented,
- I'm not really active that much and i cover astrology pages so Im not used to getting comments
- Thanks for correcting me XiAndromedae (talk) 14:09, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
