Candace Otto was crowned Miss Pennsylvania on July 12, 2003. At the Miss America Pageant, she was awarded the Bernie Wayne Performing Arts Award and a non-finalist talent award. She was the first Miss Pennsylvania to win the Bernie Wayne Performing Arts Award and the first Miss Pennsylvania since 1991 to win a non-finalist talent award. During her year as Miss Pennsylvania, she made over 150 appearances as a keynote speaker or featured performer. Her platform issue "Challenging Americans to Address Poverty" was inspired by her work with National Student Partnerships (NSP). Candace was a co-founder of NSP Evanston and has served on the advisory board of NSP Pittsburgh.

She is a native of Murrysville, PA and began her performing career at the age of ten, with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, performing on the stages of the Benedum Center and the Byham Theater. She studied Musical Theater at Northwestern University. After graduation, Candace was given an opportunity to study opera with the Ezio Pinza Council of American Singers of Opera, in Italy. At the urging of teacher Claudia Pinza, Candace set aside Musical Theater to study opera.

Performances both in the US and abroad include: “The Games of Love” (Oderzo, Italy), “The Mother of Sorrows Jubilee Tour” (Florence, Milan, Assisi, Rome & The Vatican), “First Night New Years Celebration” (Pittsburgh, PA), “The Hillman Center for the Performing Arts Grand Opening Gala” (Pittsburgh, PA), and concerts at Carlow University. She was a soloist at a U.S. Naval Academy memorial service following the events of September 11th, and has sung at the Grotto of Lourdes, France.

As a model and voiceover artist, she can be seen or heard in advertisements for: Fisher Price, Pampers, GNC, Saucony, U.S. Steel, National City, Sheetz, The Children’s Health Insurance Program, & Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Jordan Heintz is a respectable actor from the Black Diamond, Washington area. His major works include Tom vs. Yeti, a brief Macbeth film, Beer Pool, and a fill in role in The Departed.

Growing up, he faced many challenges. However, he overcame most of them, all except that he still was an unknown actor. All of that was solved when Blake Rasmussen, an up and coming director, cast him and Tom Eivers into the film Tom Eivers. Soon after he continued to produce films in many different areas.

The Best Thing Ever is a punk band formed by baritone singer/songwriter Noah Britton in the summer of 2003. The label "punk" is adequate to describe the band's influences and ethics, but the sound that they exhibited changed drastically from show to show. Ranging from 50's pop to lofi folk to pure noise, The Best Thing Ever's musical output is not easily categorized by a single genre. Add to this the fact that the band has recorded and released only fragments of their constantly fluxing catalog and it becomes clear that the actual production of music was rarely a priority for The Best Thing Ever.

Biography

The Best Thing Ever's original lineup consisted of Noah Britton, his two closest college friends (Alex Billig and Jennifer Page), and an eighteen year-old soon-to-be singer/songwriter that he met over the internet (Emily Brodsky). Although the band officially consisted of four people, they played in various incarnations. Britton was the only fundamental member.

When they started out, they displayed a very clear stylistic duality. When performing with Emily, the other members harmonized to her cutesy Stephen Merritt-inspired pop songs. Without her, The Best Thing Ever took on a Half Japanese-like art-project character. The highlights of their early Emily-less performances include improvising musicals in subway stations, broadcasting two-hour band practices over their college radio station (WTBU), and playing a noise-based rendition of an Olsen Twins song at a social justice open mic. Indeed, this was a far cry from the type of work they were doing with Ms. Brodsky.

Emily landed the band big gigs opening for such acts as the Dresden Dolls, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, and The Gossip, but when she was offered a spot opening for the Magnetic Fields at NYU, she decided to leave The Best Thing Ever to make it on her own. Soon after she appeared on a K Records distributed 7" with Mirah and The Vibration.

All four original members of The Best Thing Ever played together for the last time on November 13th, 2004 at the home of Franz Nicolay. They recorded "Would You?" and "What I Want", the only two songs that all four members had composed together. The plan had been to release a post-mortem 7", but they lost interest in the idea by the time Nicolay had completed mixing the tracks.

One month after this recording session, The Best Thing Ever went on indefinite hiatus. Noah completed his studies at Boston University and spent several months unemployed living in a $300/month room in Mission Hill. Jen pursued her MA in philosophy at BU, and Alex went to London to intern for the Green Party of England and Wales and continue his studies in sociology.

In the fall of 2005, the three remaining members of The Best Thing Ever reunited in Boston to execute a new project that Noah had conceptualized while the band had been apart. With Emily officially out of the picture, The Best Thing Ever was no longer a standard contemporary pop-band. Their activities focused less on music and more on Britton's other interests: comedy, conceptual art, and psychology.

Noah's latest proposition was along the lines of their previous off-beat work, but significantly more complex. Essentially, The Best Thing Ever was to disguise themselves as a new lounge-act named Cool. They would send out fake press kits to all the local lounges in order to obtain gigs. Once they were on stage, Jen and Alex would play appealing pop harmonies, but Noah would take the mic and berate audience members for wasting their lives at crappy lounges.

Noah, Alex, and Jen spent several months trying to get Cool off the ground. "Stop Waiting for Death (You're Not Dead Yet)", the one song they finished and recorded for the project, has been featured on Said the Gramophone. Ultimately, however, Cool failed. The band members did not have the free time necessary to follow through with Noah's vision, and Boston didn't seem to have the type of dive-lounges that they were looking to play.

When Cool was abandoned, Alex became frustrated with his band-mates and started his Casio-punk solo act Never Heard of Zeppelin. Noah continued to perform solo and with Hip Hip Hooray and ROFLcopter. The Best Thing Ever, however, was far from over.

On January 27th, 2006, Noah invited Jen, Alex, and every other musician he knew, to take the stage with him at RISD and improvise parts to songs he had written in one night, exactly one year earlier. A month later, Alex and Noah opened for Plan-It-X-Records artist Paul Baribeau by playing a full set of Paul Baribeau covers. A month after that, under a pseudonym, the members of The Best Thing Ever played a set of republican hardcore songs at an anti-war benefit. They concluded their set by doing a sincere cover of Alan Jackson's "Where Were You" followed by a feedback-driven recitation of "The Royal Anthem of the Kilted Yaksmen".

On May 1st, 2006, Noah, Alex, and Jen officially revived The Best Thing Ever moniker before embarking on their most ambitious project to date, The Bathroom Tour. For twelve straight days, The Best Thing Ever invaded bathrooms across New England to perform their music for unsuspecting audiences. Though the band was often met with resistance, the tour was meant to be enjoyable for the audience. The band has used the term glamourbomb to describe their intentions.

Immediately following the completion of The Bathroom Tour, the band began another indefinite hiatus. Jen moved to South Dakota to work for Teach for America. Alex moved back home to New York, and Noah has remained in the Boston metro-area.

The Bathroom Tour DVD, which documents the events of their final tour, was released by Noah's label, HIG Records, in September 2006.

Robert Koch Prize and Medal

The Robert Koch Medal and Award are two prizes given annually for excellence in biomedical sciences. These awards grew out of early attempts by Robert Koch to generate funding to support his research into the cause and cure for tuberculosis. Koch discovered the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis responsible for this dreaded disease and rapidly acquired international support, including 500,000 gold marks from the Scottish-American philanthopist Andrew Carnegie.

The Koch Prize

Since 1970, the Koch Foundation has awarded prizes for major advances in biomedical sciences, particularly in the fields of microbiology and immunology. The prestige of this award has grown over the past decades so that it is now widely regarded as the leading international scientific prize in microbiology, despite it largely being awarded from German scientists affiliated with the Koch Foundation. As has been described by a jury member for the prize, the committee often asks, What would Robert Koch work on today?” to decide on research that should be granted recognition. The more specific Koch Prize is commonly considered one of the stepping-stones (along with other prizes such as the Lasker Award) to eventual Nobel Prize recognition for scientists in microbiology and immunology, and a number of Koch Prize winners subsequently became Nobel laureates such as René Dubos, Cesar Milstein and Susumu Tonegawa. Other notable awardees include Albert Sabin, ,Jonas Salk and John Enders for their pioneering work on the development of polio vaccines. Only Enders was recognized with a Nobel Prize (together with Thomas Huckle Weller and Frederick Chapman Robbins).

Two separate Robert Koch Awards are presented annually: The Gold Koch Medallion for accumulated excellence in biomedical research and the Koch Prize, 100,000 euros, for a major discovery in biomedical science.

The Lost Tayopa Mine

Tayopa is the name of a legendary lost Mexican siver mine. Many stories, legends and myths surround it as well as articles and books describing the search for it. Folklorist J. Frank Dobie devoted part of his book "Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver" to the story of this legendary lost mine.

Dr. Kenneth F. Warren, a professor, author, and pollster is one of the nation's leading authorities on politics, public administration, and administrative law. Dr. Warren is a professor of political science at Saint Louis University and the president of The Warren Poll. Dr. Warren has polled for the media, government, private clients, and politicians, including former House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt.

Dr. Warren has served as a political analyst for local, national, and international media for more than 20 years and has appeared live on major networks, including, but not limited to, CNN, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, BBC, CBC, Swedish television, and Fox News, and has been interviewed by the leading newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, St. Louis Post Dispatch, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, The National Journal, The Economist, and Time Magazine. He is also a frequent guest on NPR.

Dr. Warren is the author of "In Defense of Public Opinion Polling"[1], which has received international acclaim since its release in 2001. He also is the author of "Administrative Law in the American Political System" [2], published originally in 1982, with a fourth edition published in 2004.

Dr. Warren received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

An International DJ based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Credited for scratching on the Coach Carter Soundtrack song Roll Wit' You by Ciara on EMI Recordings. DJ Judge Mental produces a daily mixshow on WIBB 97.9 Macon, GA. He has released over 62 mixtapes that included collaborations with major recording artists such as Nivea, Xscape, Goodie Mob, Citty (Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam), Alfamega (Grand Huslte), Rasheeda (Jive), and Slick Pulla (CTE). Most recently Dj Judge Mental has been on tour as a feature DJ throught Germany.

The Coconut Brotherhood is a syncrethic non theist religion of Caribbean origin and very hard it influences in the Barbados Islands.

The Coconut Brotherhood recognizes the Sacred Coconut with the power to speak like prophet and the message that supposedly transmitted to a Brother as central corpus of its doctrine: "Do not eat your Coconut, Brother".

Origin

We do not know the exact origin of the Brotherhood. The maximum that can take shape is that it is a centennial cult. The appearance of the Sacred Coco assumes in Bottom Bay, Barbados.

Beliefs

Are no documents written on the history of the Brotherhood. Thus, the oral tradition can have adorned some of the facts. Nevertheless, certain key points of history are repeated in the different versions that we have been able to contrast, reason why we considered them more probable. History tells that a fisherman of Barbados lost his capture and returned empty to port. Before the impossibility to feed himself nor his family, the fisherman eased up under a palm to meditate. After a time the Coconut fell of the palm and the fisherman wanted to divide it to have food. Then, the Coco did a revelation to him, the first and only order of the Coconut Brotherhood: "Do not eat your Coconut, Brother". According to the Brotherhood, all we have a mission in life: the search of happiness.

Rites

Brotherhood’s rites are simple but of great symbolic load. Usually, Brothers and Sisters meet at night in the beach. Seat around a bonfire and sing its hymn accompanied by a guitar, a song of repetitive structure that each one of the assistants can modify adding lyrics to one verse. During the songs an alcoholic coconut spirit is mixed with any type of refreshment, drink that they consider gathers the spirit of the Sacred Coconut. Ceremony finish when the alcohol finishes, moment at which it is come to introduce messages in the empty bottles and throw them to the sea. Symbolically, the Brothers and Sisters spread their word of happiness. The Brotherhood considers Brother or Sister to any man or woman who has proven combining of coconut spirit with refreshments, wich they call "mezcladito". Drinking it is the only way to conversion.

Dr. Kenneth F. Warren is notable for being an authority on politics, public administration, and administrative law within the United States. Warren is a professor of political science at Saint Louis University and the president of The Warren Poll. Warren has polled for agencies including: the media, government, private clients, and politicians. One of his political polls included polling for former House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt.

Warren served as a political analyst for local, national, and international media for over 20 years. He appeared live on networks, including CNN, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, BBC, CBC, Swedish television, and Fox News. The New York Times, St. Louis Post Dispatch, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, The National Journal, The Economist, and Time Magazine have used Warren's work as a political analyst. 2. The deduction of capital expenses over a specific period of time (usually over the asset's life). More specifically, this method measures the consumption of the value of intangible assets, such as a patent or a copyright.

Suppose XYZ Biotech spent $30 million dollars on a piece of medical equipment and that the patent on the equipment lasts 15 years, this would mean that $2 million would be recorded each year as an amortization expense.

While amortization and depreciation are often used interchangeably, technically this is an incorrect practice because amortization refers to intangible assets and depreciation refers to tangible assets

The site sells self-guided sightseeing tours that are delivered as PDF (Portable Document Format) file email attachments. Users can print the tours out or upload them to a mobile device. In October 2006, IATP in Moldova launched its new sub-project offering IT training to healthcare providers - MedIT. The Ministry of Health Care and Social Protection of Republic of Moldova has defined the implementation of Information Technologies (IT) at the medical institutions as a priority of 2006-2008. Thus, MedIT project aims to equip Moldovan doctors with necessary computer skills, and to assist in the implementation of Information Technologies (IT) at the medical institutions of the Republic of Moldova. Over 350 medical employees will benefit from IATP services in fall and winter. The expected outcomes include training doctors and medical staff in Computer Basics, Internet Basics, and Web Design, organizing countrywide online discussions, a national forum and international on-line discussions for doctors and medical personnel. Target locations for the first stage of MedIT’s implementation were chosen Chisinau, Balti, Ungheni, Comrat, Orhei, and Soroca. MedIT is an effective method to implement Information Technologies (IT) at the medical institutions. Michael Taibi was born in Epsom, Surrey to Sicilian parents. The youngest of four, he trained at The Guildford School of Acting for three years. His first professional job was a seven month cruise on the P&O Aurora. After several other tours including the UK tour of The Full Monty, he made his National Theatre debut in Trevor Nunns production of The Royal Hunt of the Sun, which starred Alan Armstrong.

From there he went on to perform in David Eldridges new play, Market Boy, which has since been nominated for an Olivier award for best ensemble performance.

Michael is currently performing in Sam Wests production of As You Like It which can be seen at the Sheffield Crucible before transferring to the RSC.

Born in Beit Hanina, Jerusalem, Ibtisam Barakat’s life was turned upside down at age three, when she was among the 200,000 Palestinians who fled their homes in the Six Day War when Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem following the 1967 war. Growing up with war and occupation is the focus of Barakat’s memoir, Tasting the Sky: A Palestinian Childhood, released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Birzeit University in the West Bank, Barakat moved to New York in 1986, where she interned with The Nation. Later, she earned Masters in Journalism and Human Development and Family Studies, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Alexandr (Sasha) Strack is the retired senior editor of the Ashland Observer (2003-2007). To date he has written one novel (2003's Hearts of Gold), five short stories (2004's Shan, 2005's The Legend of Shan, 2006's Peace Perpetual, 2006's Dereztown, and 2006's Come September), and numerous poems and songs. He is currently writing his second novel. In 2005, Strack was nominated for and won Best Writer of the Year Award for Valley Academy High School. He lives in Baltimore with his family and is a senior in high school. Alexandr Strack is seventeen years old.

Flexing Your Creative Muscle

I know people who will take courses on topics completely out of their field, who try new dishes at restaurants, and who strive to keep themselves open to new ideas. The odd and wonderful thing is you can do all kinds of new and different activities in your personal life that will serve to stimulate your creativity at work, break free of attachment, and overcome the inertia of immobility when you want to get things done.

Here are a few ideas: At work:

Take a planned 15 minute break twice daily

Eat away from your desk

Brainstorm with people not in your department

Furnish your workspace with plants, pictures, or art that inspires you

Learn some aspect of the organization that is completely foreign to you

Relax on your porch

Install a hammock in your backyard

In general, to develop your awareness:

Take an impromptu weekend trip to someplace you haven't visited

Better Thinking, Better Decisions

The ultimate pay-off these types of activities generate is the ability to have a free and open mind, to make decisions on reasonably accurate observations, as well as drawing upon one�s collective experience.

In a Fast Company article �Decisions, Decisions,� Anna Muoio, says �Strip down to essentials, business is about one thing: making decisions. We�re always deciding something, from the small and daily such as which emails to answer, what meetings to have, to the macro and strategic such as what product to launch and when...�

One Decision Leads to Another

Rebecca Merrill, in her book Living in Yes, regards effective decision-making as the quintessential skill in life and in one�s career. Merrill says that we make decisions all the time, and �we never get to stop doing it.� It�s vital, she says, to understand that �every new decision leads to more decisions. It�s just a question of how well or how poorly they set you up.�

In this day and age, it�s increasingly difficult to make effective decisions because of the surplus of information that is available. In many respects, it works against our ability to choose and creates an intelligence deficit. We must choose. Merrill says, �With every decision you�ll experience some loss, even, and especially, if you choose to do nothing.� Rebecca Merrill states that although we spend a small percentage of our lives actually making decisions, they determine the course of our careers and the rest of our lives.

Since the quality of your life is directly related to the quality of your decisions, it�s well worth your while to learn how to make good ones. Merrill says �you can only make a decision you are capable of making when the decision is called for.� The paradox of it all is that there are no �right� or perfect decisions. Said another way, �All decisions are a function of who you are at the time you make them.� The more clear your thinking process, the greater the quality of your decisions.

Thinking is a Process That You Do All the Time!

In his book, Thinking for a Change: 11 Ways Highly Successful People Approach Life and Work, John Maxwell points out that since our decisions are largely based on the way we think, it�s crucial to understand the nuances of the thinking process itself.

Maxwell cautions that the biggest challenges that most people face, for example, when it comes to making effective personal decisions are their feelings. �They want to change, but they don�t know how to get past their emotions,� he says. Maxwell offers a syllogism that helps people to readily understand that they are in control:

Major Premise: I can control my thoughts.

Minor Premise: My feelings come from my thoughts.

Conclusion: I can control my feelings by controlling my thoughts.

Maxwell proclaims that if you�re willing to �change your thinking, you can change your feelings. If you can change your feelings, you can change your actions.� The action that you take based on good thinking can change your career and your life.

The Analytical, Intellectual Approach

Using one�s intellect for intelligent analysis certainly has its benefits when it comes to decision making. The scientific method first propounded, introduced, in 1592 by Francis Bacon, an English philosopher, was improved upon a generation later by Rene Descartes, a French philosopher and mathematician, who provides the most fundamental approach to analytical thinking.

Recalling your seventh grade science class, the scientific method consists of six steps including observation, asking questions, formulating a hypothesis, experimentation, gathering and recording data and results, and forming a conclusion.

Shackled by the Paralysis of Analysis

Analytic and scientific approaches to decision making certainly are worth knowing and using in many instances. Many people overly rely on such analysis which takes the form of seeking reams of data before making a decision. In an overly informed society, regardless of whether you're making a purchase, hiring someone, or opening a drive-thru restaurant � you'll find enough information to persuade you to go both left and right. You'll find so much information that a clear-cut decision is nearly impossible.

A study was completed on the use of information in making decisions. Two groups of individuals had to make purchase decisions. One group was given data, analysis, and articles -- everything they thought they needed. The other group made the decision based on instinct. After a few weeks, the two groups were able to see the results: the group that felt better about its decision had chosen on instinct. More data does not necessarily produce the best answer.

If you are forty years old, forty years of data is brought to bear when you make a decision. Instinct, then, is not based on a moment's whim � it's everything you've ever learned during your existence. Each of us has the ability to make intuitive choices, but for many, the word intuition or instinct is taboo. Yet the top C.E.O.s of large companies often make decisions based on what feels right.

Find Your Own Path

When we�re consumed by too many details -- too much information -- it makes sense to switch mental gears and employ all of our faculties, especially the power of intuition.

Time and time again, astounding achievements have been realized by people who were able to look beyond what was known or accepted as true, use their intuitive faculties as well as current observations to arrive at current decisions.

Possessing intellect is certainly significant, but so is possessing instinct, intuition, and gut feelings. In fact, recent discoveries have demonstrated that there�s far more to instinct, intuition and gut feelings than you might imagine.

Robert Cooper, Ph.D. observes that "gut instincts are real and warrant listening to." For most things that you want to get done, even highly involved projects, you already have a strong idea as to how to best proceed. Often, you don't follow your own inner wisdom. You let yourself be pressured by external sources that, in retrospect, offer little contribution.

Steve King (Racer)

Steve King was a Sprint car racer, involved in the transformation of the World of Sprint Car racing from methanol fuel to ethanol fuel. He was part of the ethanol team and a teamate of Paul Dana. The Ethanol team would loose two very good drivers in the same season. Paul Dana was killed in practice at the Indianapolis 500, later that year in August after setting a new track 10 lap record, the same fate would come to Steve. A long line of people owe Steve a great deal of graditude for the relationships he brought to the Sprint Car world, with the new fuel, and the introduction of safer barriers, or soft walls which are planned at the Knoxville Raceway.

it is really quite simple while Skip Lofton is quite good at getting around people on the courts the fact of the matter is that he is abbomidibal when it comes to shotting the ball so many Bricks its a house recentley Skip suggested that a tank with 2 large tracks ane covering the bottom of the tank vertically and a smaller covering the last 1/4 on the front of the tank so steer right and left this is quit a ridiculous plan and and and one that will never work becaus a tanks tracks do not stop to turn in order to turn o track meaarly slows down still giving it constant forword movement

Harmon Foundation

The Harmon Foundation was established in 1922 by William E. Harmon. It served as a large scale patron of African American art and helped gain recognition for African American artists who otherwise would have remained largely unknown.

A significant part of the Harmon Foundation's support for African American artists was given by way of formal awards. Among the many artists to receive awards were Hale Woodruff, Palmer Hayden (who won for "Fetiche et Fleurs"), and Archibald Motley (his winning piece was "The Old Snuff Dipper").

The Foundation lasted until 1967.

Craig Burns is a native of Strathroy Ontario, and was brought into this world May 4th, 1987. His hockey ability is often compared to as the second coming of Christ. Known as the trash talking gritty left winger who perfected his skills and mouth in the streets of "No Daddy Alley" (Upper lower Crackton). In his Midget year, he moved to the Land of Wo and tore up the Midget rankings. He is an undrafted player and has brought his talent to "The Field". He is currently attending Yale University and is practising Law. He hopes to become a lawyer and take all the scum off the streets some day.

ELF, Exército de Libertação de Fermentelos, is a paramilitary organisation that perveilled in the 1960s and 1970s in Aveiro, Portugal. This non governmental organisation fought for the emancipation of Fermentelos, a small township in Aveiro.

Few are the terrorists acts performed by this organisation, but in 1973 the ELF movement made a public lynching to the Portuguese Communist Party's lider.

Today, the ELF movement still exists though it is no longer an armed organisation.

Mortified (USA)

Mortified is a national grassroots comedy collective offering a public excavation of teen angst artifacts-- journals, letters, lyrics, home movies, poetry, fiction, scripts, schoolwork.

While its roots are as a recurring stage event (Mortified Live) that began in Los Angeles, California, it has spawned theatrical chapters in numerous cities (San Francisco, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago), published books (Mortified: Real Words Real People Real Pathetic), frequently contributes to radio/TV series like This American Life, produces videos under the banner Mortified Short Bus, and boasts an online community titled Woe and Tell. Founded by David Nadelberg, it is operated by a network of contributors across the United States.

In 2006, Newsweek magazine dubbed Mortified "a cultural phenomenon" and Entertainment Weekly placed its book and stage shows on their "Must List".
