Fredegar "Fatty" Bolger is a minor character in JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. He is one of Frodo's friends who helps set up a new home for him at Crickhollow. He has a few lines of dialogue in the chapter "A Conspiracy Unmasked". There is a page in "A Knife in the Dark" when the Black Riders attack the house. There are two [actually six] sentences in "The Grey Havens" which mention him as a rebel who was captured. In a work of the size of Lord of the Rings - over 1000 pages - this is not notable. He is only mentioned once in Peter Jackson's movies. Jack Upland (talk) 22:23, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect to his entry on List of hobbits at the very least. A full merge might not be a good idea. —Xezbeth (talk) 18:47, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge (partial) to List of hobbits; a few lines about role in books, one line about ancestry, maybe one about early intended role. That would be a bit more than for many of the characters on that list, but then at least Fatty has a "featured role". --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 21:03, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to his entry on List of hobbits or a partial merge per the above discussion. Aoba47 (talk) 21:05, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment — a redirect and partial merge might be a good option. I didn't realise that there was a List of Hobbits. I think his ancestry is unnecessary, as it is trivial and duplicates rather than summarises information in the book. Regarding his role in earlier drafts, this is dubious. This suggests "Odo Bulger" became Pippin, not Fatty. There is no logical basis for saying that two characters with the same surname are the same character. One of the few things we are told about Fatty is that he doesn't want to ever leave the Shire. A character who travelled the world would not be the same character. In any case, this is trivial in the extreme. If there is to be a "List of Hobbits" (which I think is unnecessary), all it needs is an explanation of who they are.--Jack Upland (talk) 03:51, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
