Oldland Abbotonians F.C.

Though this football (soccer) club has around for a long time, it plays in one of the lowest leagues and the article has had no independent, reliable sources cited since the outset. Needs to cite some non-routine in-depth coverage to pass the notability requirements, but I can't see any online. Sionk (talk) 07:43, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From what I understand, it is in a league (10 levels below the Premiership) which doesn't normally participate in the FA Cup, so doesn't even meet the generous notability criteria of WikiProject Football. Sionk (talk) 10:51, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Western League clubs do play in the FA Cup (see 2011–12 FA Cup qualifying rounds and you'll see Div 1 teams such as Welton and Wellington) - in fact, Andover F.C. qualified for the first round proper while playing the Western League. However, I can't find any evidence that Oldland Abbotonians have played in the FA Cup... at least, not their men's team. ~~ Bettia ~~ ^talk 06:37, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - With reference to the FA Competitions List 2012-13 Oldland Abbotonians are entering the 2012/13 FA Vase. In this light it would be abortive to delete this article at this moment in time. League Octopus (League Octopus 07:39, 29 May 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

Delete per GiantSnowman. Playing in the FA Vase (re. League Octopus) is just not enough. It isn't even the higher of the two competition for non-league clubs. One can create and enter a club at level 11 of the English football league system and be immediately eligible for the FA Vase. The national club competition per WP:FOOTYN is the FA Cup, which the subject isn't even automatically eligible for the qualifying rounds for this upcoming season having finished below 4th place in a ~~Level~~ Step 6 league. There's no indication that the subject have played in the FA Cup proper in its history. -- KTC (talk) 09:46, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Clubs that have played in the FA Vase in the past have been accepted as a cut-off point for notability for English non-League clubs:
Crane Sports
Bovey Tracey
Brache Sparta Community
Ibstock United
Andover New Street

Clubs that have played at Level 10 (Step 6) have been accepted as notable despite not playing in any national cup competition:

It's unlikely anyone is going to rewrite the notability guidelines in the next few days, so we'll have to base this decision on the existing ones, presumably WP:GNG and WP:NCORP. Keep - playing at Step 6 has been used as a criterion for notability in the past, as has been demonstrated. Oldland would have been promoted to Step 5 in 2010-11 anyway if their ground had been up to scratch. The article could do with further references though. Keep. So far, there are only 2 articles substantially about the club ([1], [2]), and I would like to see more before saying unequivocally that it meets WP:GNG. On that basis it would be a weak keep, but since they play at level 10, I'm happy to go with previous consensus that clubs at this level should be kept. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:49, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
