[edit]Category:Computer hardware companies
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: do not merge. MER-C 17:13, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Computer hardware companies to Category:Computer companies
- Nominator's rationale: Seem to be the same thing. Rathfelder (talk) 18:43, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - it appears reasonable that Category:Computer companies has subcats for hardware companies and software companies (plus some others). Most (especially smaller) companies are not both. DexDor (talk) 05:41, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Both are subcategories of Information technology companies. Software companies are not under computer companies. Rathfelder (talk) 07:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Your 2nd statement is wrong. DexDor (talk) 18:41, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - per DexDor. Category:Computer hardware companies and Category:Software companies are both clearly in full view under Category:Computer companies, if Rathfelder would care to look again. Oculi (talk) 09:01, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Not at a country level. And software, these days, is not confined to computers. Rathfelder (talk) 09:56, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- That is a fair point. These days we may need to start splitting computer software companies versus mobile app companies. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:28, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- There may be a good reason for making changes to the categorization in this area, but it'll need careful analysis and more than a 6 word nomination to explain the changes. DexDor (talk) 18:41, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- It's quite difficult to sort out the subcategorisation by different technologies, partly because many of the articles are fairly incomprehensible, but the distinction between Category:Computer hardware companies and Category:Computer companies, if a distinction is intended, doesnt seem helpful. Rathfelder (talk) 07:03, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- It's difficult to understand why you maintain your view despite the fact that Category:Computer companies contains multiple subcategories next to Category:Computer hardware companies. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:34, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- In case it wasn't clear yet, this comment should be considered as an oppose. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:15, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 17:14, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Bad idea, we don't need to classify such way. They are only Punjabis. Störm (talk) 16:51, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- DElete as empty. I hope it was not emptied out of process. I am not sure that it is useful to split Indian and Pakistani descent categories by province or state. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:29, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- See Category:People of Punjabi descent for more of these descent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:02, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: WP:OCASSOC --woodensuperman 15:02, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support as per nominator. Debresser (talk) 10:39, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Some of the articles in this category (e.g. Martin Rodbell) show why OCASSOC is necessary. Note: there is List of people associated with Anne Frank which should be upmerged. DexDor (talk) 18:51, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support, per nom, per guideline. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:16, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. The 1 article in the category is Harry Stinson, should anyone want to recategorize it. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 01:13, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Only one article, the subject of which is adequately categorised as Canadian real estate businesspeople Rathfelder (talk) 14:53, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support in principle, per WP:SMALLCAT, though the article may be moved to parent Category:Condominium since it appears to be a very significant characteristic of the article. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:13, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

- Support, per nom, per guideline. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:16, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose, the definition/parameters have been explicitly stated in the category. To the contrary, this is not a lump them all of them together category. Have you even read the category before making this silly nomination?Senegambianamestudy (talk) 01:45, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Did you even look at the text of, for example, Pap Saine before adding the category tag to it? DexDor (talk) 05:31, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Have you even read the guideline before making this silly category? --woodensuperman 10:23, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 08:48, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:House de Rouvroy to Category:Rouvroy family
- Nominator's rationale: The current title is a franglais mix-up between "House of Rouvroy" and "Maison de Rouvroy". As this is the English Wikipedia the first of these would be preferable, but as they were not a royal house "Rouvroy family" is probably a better title. Opera hat (talk) 14:04, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:31, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 08:48, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Chestnut Hill is an unincorporated village near Boston, Massachusetts. This small category repeats categorization with other, incorporated municipalities. TM 12:23, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support per WP:SMALLCAT, and also per WP:NONDEF since the actual content is about sports in a much broader geographical area than Chestnut Hill. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:23, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
