- GizzyCatBella, That appears to be true, but is also besides the point; this at least shows that you haven't been attributing translations per our guidelines of translations (please do so in the future using {{translated page|pl|ARTICLENAME}}. I'm not sure about the first one, since comparing the translated text to the translated original shows low overlap, so if opened this would be a more attribution focused CCI, which are luckily pretty easy and won't result in mass deletions.
- And if Semper is a sock of Icewhiz, this is pretty goddamn disappointing. You know I work around here, don't you, so you thought you could exploit our previous friendship and get this opened? - Came across this user after looking into the copy and paste tag on I Tell a Fly. I was going to remove it but thought to check their edits as well.
- 1) I Tell a Fly - as stated by the copy and paste tag, part of it is copied from June 26, 2017 Broadway World source. Specifically "On I Tell a Fly, Clementine uses his personal history..." when the article was made on June 28, 2017. Parts of The Fader from June 26th as well were copied in the Musical styles and themes section.
- 2) Phantom of Aleppoville - when the article was made on June 1, 2017, the majority of the article was copied from a Rock Shot soruce from May 30, 2017 starting from "Accompanied by a video shot" onwards.
- 3) Jupiter (Benjamin Clementine song) - when the article was made from a redirect on August 28, 2017, part of it was copied from Under the Rag Magazine "exploring questions of identity, both personal and universal". Also, the Clash Magazine quote wasn't quoted properly as both the quotebox and Background and recording secion have a missing quotation mark at the end. The Clash magazine quote has since been fixed but not Under the Radar Mag.
- 4) At Least for Now - when reception for AllMusic was added on August 29, 2015, it was not quoted properly from the AllMusic reception from August 9, 2015 (no quotation marks). It has now since be properly quoted.
- 5) Benjamin Clementine - One of the addition to the article on March 18, 2016 was copied from New York Times Magazine from March 2, 2016 (specifically the "He took the stage in a long coat, no shirt or shoes on" part).

- I came across this user as The Jacksons Story was tagged and is part of the Articles containing links to copyright violations category. After checking their edit, I found the following in their contributions:
- Articles: Their edits to The Jackson 5 in Japan, Joyful Jukebox Music, Boogie (album), and Jackie Jackson (album) were removed for copyviolations. These can be see at these four edit histories. Of these four articles, these 3 edits were removed at Jackie Jackson. Alternativelly, their edit to The Jacksons Story is still there, and I suspect another copy of AllMusic. The problem I have with these articles is that I can't find an archived copy of the AllMusic sources to verify they predated the Wikipedia edits. I also can't find the ITunes review either. However, I suspect the editor copied these as they left the author of the AllMusic / ITunes sources and credited the website within their edits. None of their edits are in quotation marks. Also, the Blogspot source they used with Jackie Jackson is from 2008, while their edits were in 2011.
- Images: With their uploads at File:Jackiejackson1973.jpg, File:The Jackson 5 - I Am Love.jpg and File:Dancingmachine1974.jpg, they stated the images were PD / PD-self despite being non-free album covers.

- Found this user when confirming the copy and paste tag at Nirvana Apartments. I've currently speedy nominated it as a copyvio of The Daily Mirror, the copyvio was introduced into Wikipedia in 2017. Based on this user's talk page, Nirvana Apartments was already deleted as a copyviolation in 2011. This version wasn't made by this user until 2017 in an earlier edit before the copyvio. Checking this user's small contributions, I've found 4 more copyvio issues that are all foundational copys:
- Lots of copyvio at Mauro Cappelletti from NYU
- Small copyvio at James Crawford (jurist) from Matrix Law.
- Another small copyvio at Michael Barton Akehurst is from the foreword of a 2002 book at Google Books.
- Foundational edit to Ari Harow has copyvio from the Jerusalem Post - I noitced the health issues/job offers part as the copyvio.
As this is a small case, a full CCI isn't needed. I thought I should put this up to show this user reached 5 copyvios. - Multiple edits on Albania-related articles from around 2015 and 2016 overquoting mostly books in reference tags: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9) (10). Found the reference inserted in (1) during counter-vandalism patrol, and I consulted other editors about cutting down on overquotation. After some further investigation, I found that a few of this editors edits from 2016 included extreme overcitations, sometimes spanning multiple paragraphs. Most of these were found using a combination of XTools to look for their larger edits, and WikiBlame to identify if they were the one who added it. Chlod (say hi!) 22:22, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Statement by Resnjari: Yes those are my edits from that time period. I do not recall your involvement at the time about cutting down overquotation or consulting other editors. If you have consulted with other editors or they referred me to you, it would be good to know so we can be open about things. Anyway, the quotations i added were in reference to complex articles at a time when basically i was the only editor engaged in Albania related articles and having to deal with a mountain of disruptive editing. There was a lot of trolling around from some editors (who of recent times have been topic banned from the Balkans area for nationalist or disruptive editing or using nationalistic type scholarship in articles) toward Albania related articles. Even with articles were the weblink is available (and i try to make sure about that as much as possible) there are editors and IPs who don't bother to click on the link or seek out the source and read it and then go on and do problematic edits. With quotes being there its mitigated some of that behavoir on certain articles. I can dig up and cite a lot of the toxic stuff from that time, it wont be pleasant reading regarding the diffs for those wanting to get to know the context.
- For example you cite the Expulsion of the Albanians, 1877–1878. The event was a pivotal moment that kick started the modern Albanian-Serbian conflict. The overquotation in the article was done because there were many editors (some who much later were exposed to be sockpuppets) who came out wanting to delete the article [20] because it was 'slightly covered' here or there in wiki and as such the article had to go or disputing that the event hadn't really occurred when actual scholarship shows otherwise, hence the quotes. The article has managed to be stable as a result of the quotes. Even @Chlod: has been involved with reverting [21] IP disruptive editing and denialism over this event in relation to Kuršumlija.
- Another cited example is the Upper Reka. Because of its complex history related to the Orthodox Albanian speaking population, care was provided especially to that population group and its identity through the content and supported via the quotes. The quotes gave confidence to translators on Serbian and Macedonian Wikipedia projects to translate the Upper Reka article in whole from the English (the way i wrote it and are now feature articles [22], [23] minus the quotes). I highly doubt that would have happened if the quotes were not there. I can go on here with the other article examples cited.
- The Balkans topic area is large. There are few administrators willing to enter the fray. Even very recently multiple admins understand the problem, but solutions toward it vary (see discussion here: [24]). Quotes of that size at the time i made them were a method which i thought could keep things stable and prevent the constant ugly toxic environment that exists. I understand they are not ideal. There are other editors who have also done similar overquotation in the Balkans topic area for probably similar reasons at the time. The quotes can be removed. Its not hard. However when its done, it would be much appreciated that at the very least some administrators have these articles on their watchlist. There is no point in after removing the quotes only to have certain editors come in and then say, well i can't see it on the article page or i can't access the book, so then they remove or tamper with the page or to have to deal with endless IP disruptions or disruptive, time wasting and often farcical and toxic main article edits or threads in various talkpages. I am older now and have little tolerance for having to deal with that kind of thing than half a decade ago. Neither should other editors have to deal with that nonsense. - I just noticed that I was pinged here, and I'd like to say that that revert was the reason why I found these instances of overquote in the first place, since a -15,243 byte difference is unusual for two sentences of content. If it were simply a shorter citation, or a book citation even, then I would have still reverted under the pretense of removing sourced content. I'm sure that to back up two sentences, you wouldn't need to quote what I would assume to be an entire page (or at least a significant portion of it). - Respectfully, looking at your edit history, your overall focus isn't Balkan topics until very recently with a few articles. Its a different ball game there than in many other parts of Wikipedia. I haven't been regularly on wiki for a while. But when i do go on the platform and check a few articles here and there, I have found instances of IPs having done edits that have not been picked up by counter-vandalism editors. I will note, some of the cited articles watchlisted (or engaged) by editors were some of the same editors who were not keen on having the content or even articles existing based on reasons as i noted in my above comment. So when an IP does a problematic edit, not everyone will revert it, and others who may revert might not be on wiki or active at the time. So problematic edits 'slide' or get missed. On citations, i said the overquotation is not ideal, but with removal of quotes at the very least and as a measure to mitigate future problematic edits, the pages being placed on the watchlists of admins involved in the Balkans topic area along with better page protections would go some way to preventing IP disruptions/vandalism and so on. - Hope I'm not awkwardly late here; I just saw this. I have to back up what Resnjari is saying here -- it became customary in the Balkan topic area during the past five years to use large quotes in citations, and this was largely agreed upon multilaterally as a means of constraining source-interpretation disputes by making the sourcing accessible to all -- it was necessary to maintain sanity of the editing area. There was later a general move against this, within the past year. Large quotes usually were only placed in citations, not the actual page text, and they are increasingly being placed into comments. While its not good to accuse others of "copyright paranoia", it is true that, in general, in my experience, those who enforce copyright in the Balkan area have either done so very selectively, or otherwise (in this case typically by editors not actually familiar with the area) done in a way that is clumsy at best. I have come across people enforcing copyright on attributed material that is explicitly released to the internet as open and free use. What I have never seen, not even once, is an actual issue with copyright in the Balkan topic area. But, that said, the long quotations in citations are slowly being commented out anyways. - I just noticed that I was pinged here, and I'd like to say that that revert was the reason why I found these instances of overquote in the first place, since a -15,243 byte difference is unusual for two sentences of content. If it were simply a shorter citation, or a book citation even, then I would have still reverted under the pretense of removing sourced content. I'm sure that to back up two sentences, you wouldn't need to quote what I would assume to be an entire page (or at least a significant portion of it). - The Balkans topic area is large. There are few administrators willing to enter the fray. Even very recently multiple admins understand the problem, but solutions toward it vary (see discussion here: [24]). Quotes of that size at the time i made them were a method which i thought could keep things stable and prevent the constant ugly toxic environment that exists. I understand they are not ideal. There are other editors who have also done similar overquotation in the Balkans topic area for probably similar reasons at the time. The quotes can be removed. Its not hard. However when its done, it would be much appreciated that at the very least some administrators have these articles on their watchlist. There is no point in after removing the quotes only to have certain editors come in and then say, well i can't see it on the article page or i can't access the book, so then they remove or tamper with the page or to have to deal with endless IP disruptions or disruptive, time wasting and often farcical and toxic main article edits or threads in various talkpages. I am older now and have little tolerance for having to deal with that kind of thing than half a decade ago. Neither should other editors have to deal with that nonsense. Resnjari, Sorry for the wait, I tend to be the one who opens CCIs and I haven't really been around in full capacity recently. I am torn on what to do here, so I have come up with two best ways to deal this 1) the CCI is opened with an exclusive focus on overquotes and you help thin the quotes down. 2) you are asked to edit down the overquotes on your own time and the CCI is rejected. I think the reason for using such large quotes is perfectly reasonable and that they should be continued to be used to combat misinformation and trolls in the area. Blocking you is also out of the question as I don't think there is a serious threat of copyright violations here. However a lot of the quotes are overly long and I'm not sure everything said is relevant to what is being said in the text, so the irrelevant text should be removed... but I also know nothing about this topic area and wouldn't be 100% sure on what is and isn't relevant. This editor was first warned about copyright issues on the 5th of September [26], when National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) was speedy deleted G12. On the 4th of october they created National Broadband Mission (NBD), which was G12'd the same day, collecting another warning [27]. On the 5th October they created Draft:National Broadband Mission (NBM), which currently has most of it's contents rev-deled due to copyright infringement, which resulted in another warning from Diannaa on the 6th [28] on the 8th of October they created 2021 Srinagar High School Target Killings which has just been deleted after a listing at WP:CP due to consisting almost entirely of copy pasted paragraphs. Looking at another one of their creations, One Hundred and Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of India, shows that it is a foundational copyvio of [29], with all the text being copy pasted. They have ignored the warnings about copyright left on their talk page - Their only response was to blank them, and their contribution history contains numerous multi thousand byte additions, which based on their other edits are likely copy pasted from elsewhere. - added - user claims table is not copyrightable because it is "a list of facts" - but the table is actually the expression of the author's theories about a language, the list is not of incontrovertible facts, but rather the creative output of a linguist. It's not just a list of phone numbers, and other theorists theorize different pronunciation guides. If it were a 'simple list of facts', there would be no variants and no disagreements. - Declined No copyright concern at the article, no proof of copyright abuse, and I've scrawled Kwamikagami's talk page for anything and found only notices of filespace copyright concerns, with them being resolved via deletion or providing information by this point. There is nothing to do. I have also spotchecked at least 20 different articles and have found nothing that is a copyright violation. @Skyerise: do not come to CCI without proof of repeated violations of copyright; we require at minimum five diffs with sources of copying to consider opening cases. - Unfortunately I think there's a problem with incompatible licensing. The Susan's Place Transgender Wiki (now located at https://www.susans.org/wiki/ ) uses a GFDL license. The Susan's Place editors copied articles from here to there, then extensively modified and expanded them. In 2010 Reset by peer imported text from the Susan's Place wiki back to Wikipedia; however, by that time we had switched to dual-licensing, and could no longer accept material licensed solely under the GFDL.

The problem is, I believe that these uploads are not their own work. So far, I've found two that are definitely not own work due to being from copyrighted websites. These other two are from copyrighted websites as well, but do not provide any years to determine whether they would pass Commons:Copyright rules by territory/United States. Three articles have been moved to draft space. There are approximately 3-4 remaining articles in main space. Many of the sources are not in English making it difficult to analyze the remaining articles and drafts. The user has repeatedly indicated on their talk page today they have permission to use this work, but no it seems unlikely that commercial travel guides would use a Creative Commons License. User remains active, and given the large number of copyright violations so far, some additional assistance is required from more experienced editors in this area to review the remaining contributions. - Discovered via Global Geospace Science, which appeared to be in whole a copypaste of NASA sources. Being NASA sources, I presume they are public domain, and I rectified that issue with an undo and talk page message. Being curious I checked their edit history. Gas-generator cycle's lead section appears to be copied from [55] – or ultimately from there as that material is often stolen. Solar panels on spacecraft might also have text copied from somewhere. Honda Elysion has had a table of prices added – dunno if it's enough for a copyvio, mentioning it anyway. 2016 Pacific hurricane season could have copied material. Spacecraft call signs has text copied from the reference. Haven't gone into depth with the other edits. - I recently saw a copyright violation (very close paraphrasing) by Victuallers while checking the New Pages feed, and draftified it to give them a chance to correct it. They reposted it multiple times to the mainspace and didn't give any indication of actually caring about this. See the "June 2023" section and Draft:Margaret Forrester (2) for the copyright issues. Many of the pages they create start out as an awkward jumble of sentences, but as the main source (ODNB) is usually paywalled, I can't check them for copyrvio / plagiarism. Their latest creation, Jane Burdett, again has close paraphrasing issues though, which leads me to believe that this is probably the case in many of their initial creations and likely in some of the end results as well.

Note how the part "of Foremark, near Repton, Derbyshire, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of William Francis of Ticknall." is an exact copy, but due to the cut-and-paste attempts to avoid longer copyvio results in an incomprehensible mess. Please, if you have access to ODNB and their other sources, check their article creations (from the start) against the sources, and make it clear that they should never use this method to create articles. - "A work in progress" is not an excuse to first post copyright violations only to get rid of them (hopefully) afterwards. "Temporary" copyvio is equally forbidden as permanent ones. An admin should know this. - What "the proposer" is hoping for is that you will change your approach to editing, stop writing articles by copying text into your editor and then start rehuffling / minimally rewriting it, and instead read the sources and then write a summary completely in your own words. What the proposer also hoeps is that if you copy text from other articles, you give proper attribution. What the proposer hopes as well is that if you translate articles, you give proper attribution and stop using machine translations. Finally, what the OP hopes for is that you would rectify the issues (e.g. with attribution), indicate which of your articles may have similar problems, and actually help here instead of just doing some vague handwaving. But the most important of all of these is that we get some indication that you really understand the issues with these edits, and that you will stop doing these things in the future. - Hard to tell what is worse though, the copyright violations when you copy or paraphrase the sources, or the results when you do try to write it in your own words. Turning the source "In May 1779 a caravan from Suez to Cairo was attacked; some merchants died, others were imprisoned. In November he escaped and reached Izmir." into "One of his caravans had been attacked in 1779 and he had left the resulting problems when he arrived in Izmir." is changing a logical narrative into something weird. I'm declining this at this time. I haven't found anything further after spot-checking a few other articles so it looks like the copyright issues are thankfully the exception rather than the rule here. That being said, I do hope Victuallers will take what's said to heart and make sure that copyright issues aren't added under the guise of a WIP to begin with as that still counts as being a problem, and I'm hoping that more aren't found down the road which would result in an opening. - Many of A. J. Adamson's edits to film articles have consisted of expanding the plot section with content copied from non-free sources, such as IMDB. Their very first edit in June 2023 was to Mr. Bean's Holiday which added content copied from [56], according to the page's deletion logs. A look at that page's history reveals they have re-added the same plot more or less, to the page thrice – twice in August (diff 1, diff 2) and again on 4 Dec. The content of those edits seem very similar to the IMDB plot summary. The same problem can be seen at Collide (2016 film) where they added non-free plots to the page three times – twice in June, and once recently on 4 Dec. Both of the June 2023 edits have been revision deleted on that page.
