- The_Turn_of_the_Screw_(opera) (filter log)
- Description
- I wanted to change "paedophiliac" into "homosexual" since it distorts the meaning of the referenced article (Guardian: Filthy Britten). The Latin words that Miles is using express his homosexual desire (which is symbolized by Quint). Why should a young boy be a pedophile if he uses codewords for "penis"? The clue of the scene «The lesson» consists in the convenience of both, the governess and Miles, with the phallic words while Flora rather wants to change the topic into history (admiration for "Bodicea" with lesbian connotation). Therefore, the child abuse lies in the eyes of a Victorian society (symbolized by the governess), which condemns homosexual desire.

- Description
- Suggesting a merge of American-born Chinese into Chinese American, which has been mentioned a number of times on the talk page, and which is eminently reasonable. The American-born Chinese article provides no evidence at all that the term is notable and in any case, Wikipedia is NOT a dictionary. The term "American-Born Chinese" could be covered in a single sentence in the "Chinese American" article. There is no need for it to have its own article.

@Viking6767: The content translation tool is disabled on the English Wikipedia for a couple of reasons (you can read about it here). One of them is that many articles copied from other Wikipedias don't meet the English wiki's policies, and this is one of them. The issues here are you don't have any inline citations (so we can't tell which information came from where) and you only have partial citations, so it'd be nearly impossible to find the actual source. Please fix these before submitting, and please ask me if you have any questions. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 20:10, 20 August 2018 (UTC) @Compassionate727: Thanks for your answer. This was a direct translation of the page in Swedish. Only one online source is still valid. The rest I assume was taken from the books cited. Viking6767 (talk) 07:01, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

I was trying to add a source to the deep fakes article, for it's uses in visual effects industry beyond the liberal slant that it's gotten on it's page. I think it has a great potential in film, and I think that my opinion could help the article grow a bit more and offer more content to any user who is curious about the topic. I have been involved slightly in the creation of visual effects tests for the software that are not related to counterfeiting, porn, satire, or propaganda. I feel that the entire page is a criticism of the potential of that technology, before you get to the section about criticisms of the software. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/deepfake-tech-eyed-by-hollywood-vfx-studios-1087075

- Received a warning for self-published source, probably because of: Fox, E. T. (2014). Pirates in Their Own Words. Raleigh NC: Lulu.com. ISBN 9781291943993. E. T. Fox is a recognized expert in the field of history of Golden Age pirates. The work is a compilation of court records, depositions, and trial transcripts unavailable in print elsewhere; Fox's commentary is nearly as valuable as the documents themselves. Even though it's published by Lulu, can that ISBN be put on a whitelist so it doesn't get flagged by the self-publish / vanity bot?

- This seems to be entirely not worth the trouble. Can you just ignore it? It is a warning filter for a reason. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 20:19, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- I guess this is an exceptional case where the reasons for inclusion might be somewhat-valid.But, the filter seems to be working as intended and then, it's a warning filter for a reason.Other ideas? ∯WBGconverse 06:01, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
- Correct WBG, the purpose of the filter is simply to tag additions from known Self-Publishing houses, as those are often but not always Vanity items. Such sources are not completely prohibited, as WP:SPS guides. The test it offers is whether the author has been published by third party sources in addition to the Lulu publication. A quick scan shows Fox mentioned in publications by others as an expert, but in a sort of trickle-down, I'm not qualified to determine whether those sources are reliable. I'd say for now you're probably fine, but just be prepared to support Fox's recognition as an expert if challenged on it. CrowCaw 20:31, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

- @Compassionate727: It's link blacklist[3], because it's a link to Google. The IP user should attempt to use a different link - possibly a direct link to the website, though I suggest they consult with other users on the talk page to improve the wording and decide whether it's really notable. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

- Description
- I think we should establish that an individual is a convicted pedophile when they are a convicted pedophile prior to any additional information about them. When attempting to edit the page to include the text, Richard Lavigne is "a convicted pedophile and" a former priest... it advised me that my edits were not allowed. Should we use a different word to establish convicted pedophiles as convicted pedophiles? They should be remembered as pedophiles before any of their "works" or accomplishments" are mentioned. Does Wikipedia prefer otherwise?.

- For one, I think ‘convicted child molester’ works better. Pædophilia is a mental illness, child molestation is a crime. We shouldn’t say ‘convicted pædophile’ any more than we should say ‘convicted kleptomaniac’. שונרא (talk) 21:13, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
- The claim that he's a convicted child molester (or whatever preferred wording) needs a source (it isn't currently sourced in the article). Provided you can point me to one, I see no reason I can't do this. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 00:49, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- You are correct. Thank you. I just didn't like that when I went to look him up, it said he was an 'American Priest' or 'Former Catholic Priest'. The problem with these guys is that since the statute of limitations is specifically written into the law, they'll never actually be convicted in most cases. We just can't rely on the Justice System at this point to "Allow" us to use the word convicted and need to ensure that they remain in the history books as child molesters even if they were never held accountable for it by the Justice System in their lifetime. —ZakAttak999 19:34, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

- Trying to explain the reason I made an edit on the Talk page. The link for Jeff Epstein in the article went to the wrong Jeffrey Epstein, and the article it went to is for the registered sex offender and alleged pedophile, so it's pretty libelous. There is no apparent article for the correct Jeff Epstein, so this was the best course of action. I don't want the edit to be mistakenly reverted as vandalism.

- Your edit attempts don't appear to be constructive. They seem to range from blanking out large sections of the page, to pasting in copyrighted material (www.valerianstan.ro/biografie_en.html).
- If you want to edit constructively, you will need to add to the article instead of replacing it, and paraphrase the source instead of just copying the material verbatim. LynxTufts (talk) 16:48, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
