- Weak keep The image can be kept but needs a FU rationale. Someone care to add one? --Leoboudv (talk) 05:39, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep but downsize. Stifle (talk) 14:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. To elaborate, my main concern with this image is the detail lost if it is downsized. Obviously, it's currently too large to comply with the fair-use policy, but reducing it will likely make the image of The Kid invisible, therefore negating part of the image's purpose. The result of the discussion was: - Delete - As failing WP:NFCC#1 - also note that while the old image and a new one would show different surroundings it is needed to show that the difference would significantly decrease reader's understanding - Peripitus (Talk) 22:37, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Illustrates a subject for which a free image might reasonably be found or created that adequately provides the same information. PhilKnight (talk) 14:13, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: as stated before,[1] pictures have shown that the environment have considerably changed. Taking pictures of the structure now would not show the same or similar setting (old train depot) as in this photo, which is reported in the article. Jappalang (talk) 17:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - Any free image that could be taken would show an entirely different surrounding that could not accurately portray the subject in its historical function as a train station. Grsz11 03:08, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Do I understand rightly that the ultimate point of this file is to depict a building? If so, has the building itself changed really? Is it possible to take a picture that depicts the building itself? If so, delete, because there's no reason someone else couldn't take a picture of it now. Pictures don't become automatically fair-useable simply because the vegetation has changed? Nyttend (talk) 03:56, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Not the building alone, but the historical setting—the building as the smallest full-service train depot in the US. Jappalang (talk) 22:19, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. Text could easily convey this information. Stifle (talk) 14:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep the argument that the surrounding have significantly changed seems to be a strong one, which would make this a non-replaceable fair use image. Ejfetters (talk) 02:34, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. What exactly does this image tell us that a current one with text wouldn't? That pictures used to be black and white? The picture is not that informative. It's like using a non-free picture of George Bush because he used to be the President. Just use a free picture and then mention it. Unless anyone believes that people won't get it without this incredibly informative picture that justifies violating someone's copyright? "I wouldn't have understood that article at all if it weren't for that slightly darker gray strip across the bottom. Thank God some Wikipedian had the foresight to use that image without the consent of the copyright holder so that I could have a better understanding of gray blotches." We need good reasons to violate someone's copyright, this isn't. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 10:00, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete as failing WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. Stifle (talk) 14:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, though I fully admit I'm not an expert on our image policies. I don't see how the image is replaceable, under the conditions the debates were filmed--the broadcast is copyrighted and the audience was limited and I'm not sure they were even allowed to take photos. The image itself isn't iconic, but isn't it enough that it depicts the historic event of the debates? The United States presidential election debates, 2004 is a bona fide historical event, not some random meeting between two people. A criteria that the image itself be commented upon may make sense for Simpsons episodes and the like but not for this. Otherwise we'd have no images in the article except weird ones like File:Kerrypen.jpg (which has copyright issues of its own, on an unrelated note). If nothing else the image depicts the town-hall format, as mentioned in the caption. Wkdewey (talk) 07:40, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It's not enough that the image is not replaceable (although it could well be replaceable by text, such as "X and Y participated in a debate"). It must also add significantly to readers' understanding of the article, and I don't think this does. Stifle (talk) 09:53, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Weak delete Normally I would keep it but there is indeed no clear source. --Leoboudv (talk) 05:45, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- A screencap would be less infringing because it is only a very small portion of the complete work, and this publicity shot is the complete work, this is the argument made for the Star Trek character publicity shots as well, which led to them being replaced.
