Non-free TV episode screenshot, used in infobox. Random, nondescript scene, not the object of specific commentary. Extremely vague FUR ("Screenshot needed to signify episode") which basically admits it's merely an image for the sake of having an image. Purely decorative use, fails NFCC#8. The result of the discussion was: delete. Those in favor in deletion of the image made stronger and more policy-based arguments than those who were in favor of keeping the image. As Hullaballoo Wolfowitz pointed out, the WMF does hold very strict standards in regards to use of non-free images such as this one, and that remains unchanged for several years. The argument that this image is contextually significant to the point where "its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding" (WP:NFCC#8) is rather unconvincing. Text alone can describe how a person/character has aged without the use of a non-free image—I'm sure the average reader has a basic understanding of the idea of aging—and, due to the lack of critical commentary from secondary reliable sources specifically of this image, the result of this discussion is delete. — ξxplicit 01:29, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - this image helps me visualize his later appearance. Although a short cameo, he appears way differently from the existing screenshots of 1980s episodes that are currently used in Simon Wicks. As long as it is not used in the article Nick Berry, as long as he lives, using this image in "Simon Wicks" is fine. Well, not "brittle and dry", but Simon Wicks was last seen in 1990 or 1991, and his appearance has changed. One still image of his cameo doesn't affect the marketing role of EastEnders, as bunch of episodes have little or no chance to be rerun for the next five or so years after omnibus rebroadcasting in weekends, even if released in home video. --George Ho (talk) 19:23, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep' and delete the second image currently on the page. One alternative image to illustrate a significantly changed appearance is enough. This appearance had significant media coverage on the day of broadcast due to its "surprise" element, and the picture illustrates the character's appearance 20 years after his tenure on the show (and several years since Berry last appeared on television). Re:NFCC#8, the image allows the reader to understand the character's change in appearance, and (considering its brevity) effectively visualise the entire appearance. This would take a lot of unnecessary wordiness to achieve in the text. U-Mos (talk) 21:37, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. There are absolutely no policy-based arguments for retention of this nonfree image, and the arguments presented here for its retention are absurdly flimsy. The fact that an actor made a cameo appearance on a television show is barely noteworthy, and the argument that because an actor/character has aged in normal fashion, the relevant article requires an image to allow encyclopedia users to "understand" this simple fact is beyond ludicrous. One might as well argue that an additional image is required to assure that readers adequately understand references to a character's (or more generally a female celebrity's) pregnancy. The WMF has established demanding standards for the use of nonfree images, and editors should comply with those standards rather than contriving flimsy rationales for evading them. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 14:25, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I write this as much of a note to any future commenters here as to yourself, but please do remember to assume good faith. I don't consider this any sort of personal issue, and there's no reason why anyone else should either. Let's keep it WP:CIVIL. U-Mos (talk) 19:55, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- There's nothing at all uncivil about pointing out that an argument is wholly ungrounded in policy and guidelines. There's an immense amount of editors' time being wasted by people who dislike the WMF's policy on nonfree images, which can't be weakened by en-wiki consensus, and simply argue, over and over, in one form or another, that a picture is worth a thousand words. - Delete. It doesn't matter what the character looks like, how the actor's appearance changed over time or how it helps anyone to visualise it. Unless there was some critical commentary on his physical appearance (of which I am aware of none), then the image is not necessary. –anemoneprojectors– 14:33, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- See File:Jeff Conaway ABC Taxi.jpg and Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2012 February 14#File:Jeff Conaway ABC Taxi.jpg... Well, that case was a little different, but I'm just using it to compare for standards of contextual significance. Fastily believes that using images for depiction of age changes exceeds limits of fair use; is that true? --George Ho (talk) 21:52, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- One more thing: How does removing this image from "Simon Wicks" article benefit anything? --George Ho (talk) 02:07, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per HW (his logic, not his tone...). George, the Conaway image is no sort of "precedent" - there you have specific commentary referring to his appearance at the time, reliably sourced, and even then the xFD was no consensus, not keep. Begoon talk 02:25, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hollyckuhno (talk) 11:46, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Just because people use it doesn't it isn't fan made. It is fact that it is fan made just like all the other logos in the link I provided above!! Are you not aware of the thing called "going viral"? Also, I've seen this, fan made logo, in a couple of articles from aseanfootbal.org, you gonna upload that as well? Or any other fan made logo that could possible be put on a t-shirt?!? Come on!! Banana Fingers (talk) 12:27, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The link that you provided is clearly a fan made since there is no reference to that. Now if you're going to support your stand with such nonsense tirade, then be my guess. The link I provided above are not subjective evidences. In fact, the link I provided above are all objective if you would just click each of the link because those are not the links that I provided you before on your talk page. The link features images with real people, officials and events that involves the Philippine Football Federation, Philippines National Football Team, David Beckam and the player itself. No fans or whatsoever. Hollyckuhno (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- "It is fan made because there is no reference"?!?! Say what?!?! lol! The ASEAN Football Federation used in an article last month [5]. You gonna upload that as well because it was used by the AFF?!? They even used another one which can be seen here. You gonna upload that too?!? "Link features images with real people...." LOL!! I don't even know where to start with that one. All I'll say is, DUH!!! Fan made stuff isn't made by itself. Banana Fingers (talk) 19:15, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Again, the link you provided does not have a reference. Even though the image was used in an article, the article itself does not justify that the image used was official, instead the image was used just to illustrate a point.

Here I will give you a good example of external link that justifies an image. These are from the websites ABS-CBNNEWS and Lopezlink the website of Lopez Group of Companies that owns ABS-CBN Corporation and in turn owns the ABS-CBN Licensing and the website of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs respectively.
Please read it carefully for you to understand what the it says. Hollyckuhno (talk) 06:30, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep "fan made" is not a criterion for deletion and fan made art is not necessarily unencyclopedic. The discussion about this image's encyclopedic nature should continue at Talk:Philippines_national_football_team#Azkals_brand. Thincat (talk) 11:27, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment So you're basically telling me is that I could go to every national football team article or even just any sports team article on Wikipedia, find anything and everything fan made, from pics, to logos to whatever else and upload it all and it will stick because "fan made" isn't necessarily unencyclopedia?! Banana Fingers (talk) 15:10, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- No, that is not what I am telling you. For what I am saying, see above. Thincat (talk) 19:16, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- As a matter of fact, it is what you're implying! Why don't you have a look at what I've said above as well! If a fan made logo for a sports team is gonna stick just because its on t-shirts, used in news articles, etc. Then that means any and all fan made logos of the team which have also been used on t-shirts, news articles, etc. would be able to stick and would be considered encyclopedic? And you don't find anything wrong with that? hmmm... Banana Fingers (talk) 08:55, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
