File:First selection from lilac time 1922.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Theo's Little Bot (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Image published in 1922, it was PD in US before 2019. Michalg95 (talk) 09:37, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • When I uploaded the sheet cover, I originally tagged it as free in the US but not transferable in the UK. An Australian music arranger George H. Clutsam, probably one of the authors, died in 1951, and the work has been still copyrighted until 70 years after the last author's death. As I figured, the work was still copyrighted in its home country, the UK or Australia. Nonetheless, I changed the copyright status, assuming that it would be more accurate. As I see now, time has passed, and the work's British and Australian copyrights are expiring at the end of this year. I'll change info and status soon, so it'll be eligible for transfer to Commons. Almost forgot: previous revision(s) must be undeleted if either kept or transferred to Commons. George Ho (talk) 01:50, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unused derivative work of a CD cover. Background likely puts it above the threshold of originality. Ixfd64 (talk) 18:01, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The cover art likely isn't de minimis. Probably does not qualify for fair use because this specific album isn't a subject of commentary. Ixfd64 (talk) 18:47, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NFCC fail - this is in no way a "unique historic image" and it would certainly be replaceable by someone taking a picture of the depicted lawn mower. GeneralNotability (talk) 20:28, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NFCC fail - this is in no way a "unique historic image" and it would certainly be replaceable by someone taking a picture of the depicted lawn mower. In my opinion, it is also not sufficiently critical to the article in question to meet NFCC 8 (contextual significance), since it is from 1970 and so it's possible that taking a picture would be impractical. File:Genghis Khan Battle scene.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Spinningspark (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

The screenshot is used in the lead section of Genghis Khan (TV programme). The fair use rationale states its purpose is "To aid readers in assessing the nature of the production." Readers do not need a screenshot to asses the nature of the production and there is no critical commentary of the image itself in the article, there is a sentence about "Battle scenes were recreated using the same CGI techniques as The Lord of the Rings trilogy.", and a screenshot is not needed to see CGI. The screenshot does nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the programme and its exclusion is not detrimental to the understanding of the film, thereby failing WP:NFCC#8. Aspects (talk) 23:02, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. It's misleading to characterise this as "used in the lead section". The reality is that the article is too short to divide into sections, and the image is not the lead image (there is one section for a bio of the lead actor, but only because he is not quite notable enough for his own article, not really part of the film article proper). This film was noted for the quality of the production. It is quite reasonable to show a screenshot to let the readers judge the quality of the cgi and the epic mature of the film. A single screenshot in an article is not excessive use of non-free media. SpinningSpark 09:20, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
