[edit]Uploading a photograph
[edit]To the Editor's Team. Regards. I have written an important biographical article which is awaiting review but it is not finalized as yet. I want to have a photograph uploaded on this article. But, I don't the basics of how to upload it . Please, provide the basic information on how I can upload this photograph on my article before it is actually reviewed and finalized.
regards, Zafar Ul Islam Kasana. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zafarkasana (talk • contribs) 10:46, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- To upload an image you can use Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard which will walk you through all of the steps needed to provide appropriate licensing information. To use an image after it has been uploaded, you should turn to Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. -Thibbs (talk) 12:59, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Move log
[edit]Anyone know an answer to my question here? -- pretty IittIe Iiar 11:36, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- My quick test with another article that I know was moved appears to confirm that logging only takes place on the name its moving from and not the name its moving to. Perhaps WP:PUMPTECH is a better place to ask. - X201 (talk) 12:02, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Moves have never been in the log of the new title. Before 2005 they weren't logged at the old title either. Moves are in the page history of both the new and old title. I search for moves to a title by viewing the page history, clicking older 500, and doing a browser search (Ctrl+f in most browsers) of "moved page" to find the automatic edit summary of page moves. Before 2005 moves were only in the page history of the old title. If a moved page is protected then the protection settings are moved and this event may be in the log of the new title, for example [1]. It's an old request to log moves at the new title, for example at phab:T9441 from 2006. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:04, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- See also HELP:MOVE, lead section, item 4. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:43, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the very comprehensive answer PrimeHunter. I didn't realize that every other page I remember seeing moved was protected in some way or another. I
guess these phabricator requests don't age in priority or something like that.think that request from 2006 was "closed". Anyway, not my problem. I guess I'll stick to Ctrl-F ing the edit history for now.-- pretty IittIe Iiar 14:02, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Karla Turner
[edit]Can you please discontinue the block you have put up on the entry for Dr. Karla Turner. There is a compendium of information about her that should be in Wikipedia, regardless of whether you or anyone believes in what she has asserted. I assume that the government ordered you to delete any reference to her on Wikipedia, but why can't you, Wikipedia, reveal that communication. If her presentations and books are now considered to be too fallacious to be on Wikipedia, there is no evidence of any event that acted as a marker to discredit her indefinitely. As a result, the deletion of her entry in WIki is highly suspicious, and even seems illegal: censorship. Please take my comments into account, and know that you could report that info about her is "unallowed by authorities," etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.148.60 (talk) 12:16, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Dr. Karla Turner has previously been deleted twice - in 2012 and 2013 - I can't see any actual block on creating it, apart from the obvious ones that it must have reliable sources and adhere to Wikipedia's other policies like being notable and neutral in tone, the reasons why it was deleted previously. The "suspicious" first deletion was done in public at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Karla_Turner - X201 (talk) 12:29, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has many articles on subject which people - and governments - don't like. We often get requests here from people wanting us to remove an article, a picture, some text, because they are offended or upset by it. The answer is usually no. Wikipedia articles are deleted only when they don't meet Wikipedia's own requirements: chiefly that there be enough independent published reliable sources about the subject to ground an article. If you look at the (public) deletion discussion that X201 linked above, there is hardly any mention of the content of the article: it is almost all about the lack of reliable independent sources. If you can find some such sources (they need to be reliable sources like major newspapers or books from reputable publishers, need to be unconnected with Turner, and need to be substantial, not just listings or mentions in passing) then you can write an article on her. --ColinFine (talk)
- And bluntly, if you open up with bullshit assertions like "the deletion of her entry in WIki is highly suspicious, and even seems illegal: censorship", you open yourself up to dismissal as not only a crackpot but an ignorant crackpot at that. We do not take well to that sort of nonsense from either the "right" or "left" or anybody else. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:28, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

- The reason for the strange formatting of the last line of your message is that you included leading spaces. This peculiarity is mentioned at Help:Editing, which is one of many useful links which another editor has added to your user talk page. Note also that messages on discussion pages such as this, but not contributions to articles themselves, should be signed at the end by either adding 4 tildes
~~~~
or by using the signature button in the edit toolbar. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:54, 18 February 2015 (UTC)- @FITAAHMC: I think from your comments that you would also find the contents of this page helpful in creating content at User:FITAAHMC, which is your "user page" where you can let other editors know a little bit about yourself as an editor of Wikipedia. If however, you are wishing to create an encyclopedia article in Wikipedia about yourself, that is strongly discouraged because you have an inherent conflict of interest which makes it difficult to produce an article that meets one of the primary requirements for article content - that it is presented from a neutral point of view. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:09, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Learning how to use Wikipedia is a long process and most of us here learn more about the process every day. For a beginner editor the best place to start is The Wikipedia Teahouse. There you can ask for mentorship and ask questions from experienced Wikipedia users who are there to help. If you are more of an independent kind of learner, then you might also consider starting with The Wikipedia Adventure - an educational game that attempts to teach new users the basics of editing in less than 1 hour. -Thibbs (talk) 13:06, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
My page has been deleted!
[edit]Hi there, I'd like to raise the issue that the page that I made on my YouTube group, RITF Gaming, has been deleted. Whilst I can understand that we are perhaps, not the largest reason for having a Wikipedia page, my key issue is that I have editing that since 1030 this morning, there or thereabouts, and am horrified and disappointed to have two and a half hours worth of work deleted. I think that if the administrators wanted to delete the page, then they should have let me know before I spent so long on it! I guess I would also kinda like my content back on the website! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LianneJefferson (talk • contribs) 13:00, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Your article was deleted because it was found not to have sufficient notability, and qualified under deletion for a non-notable group. There was a notice placed on your talk page before the deletion, and you can request undeletion to a draft here. Origamiteⓣⓒ 13:09, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- I don't believe that the author will receive a successful reversal of an A7 deletion at WP:UND. The first port of call should be the admin who deleted it. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Some administrators are willing to privately send you a copy of the deleted page, or move it your userspace so you can grab it. Try asking the admin. Your YouTube group certainly does not have sufficient notability to have its own page on Wikipedia. ☃ Unicodesnowman (talk) 13:38, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Being famous on Youtube is just about as meaningful as being rich in Monopoly. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:09, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Wish I was rich in Monopoly. It would be a start. But some YouTubers do make the cut, the last one I looked at had a million followers, and a billion views. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 16:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC).
NOT YOUR page
I'd like to put a strong emphasis on that it was not your page that was deleted, is was a Wikipedia page written by you. Please see WP:OWN for further explanation. --CiaPan (talk) 16:41, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
referencing
[edit]can i reference a social network — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nyashagee (talk • contribs) 13:22, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Nope, Unfortunately not. Check WP:RS for more. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 29 Shevat 5775 13:25, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- If a person has sufficient notability, their own social network postings could be used as sources of information about themselves. WP:SELFSOURCE. This should only be used in exceptional circumstances, best to find a secondary source. ☃ Unicodesnowman (talk) 13:41, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Missing Table of Contents?
[edit]I don't understand why an article I wrote, The Captive Slave has no TOC. TOC's just show-up when you section an article don't they? Alanscottwalker (talk) 17:03, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- WP:TOC says "For each page with at least four headings, a table of contents (TOC) is automatically generated from the section headings", you can probably guess the rest of the answer to your question. - X201 (talk) 17:07, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- WP:TOC also shows how to force the software to have one in the article.Naraht (talk) 17:08, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- What do you know? I don't recall ever knowing that (if it's not new). At any rate, thanks. Alanscottwalker (talk) 18:41, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
request for an article:
[edit]hello:
I am seeking information on a website: www.networx.com (it is a job-hookup type website).
The process for submitting this as a future article, (maybe to be written by some young, business writer wanna-be) is very convoluted.
I ended up here.
thanks, Reese T. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.158.230.31 (talk) 17:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- If you think the subject meets the requirements for a having stand alone article (the simple version , the the full version) then you can leave a request via the "request an article" process. (If it doesn't meet the requirements, then it's probably not worth your time to request it.) -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:39, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text
[edit]Hi there. I recently made a heavy change to the Defense of the Ancients page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_the_Ancients
Unfortunately I messed up the sources, and I was hoping someone with more experience in referencing could 'clean it up' for me.
Thanks in advance for the help, Broden. Broden (talk) 19:24, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, @Broden: - fixed it. When you accidentally deleted content or a reference in an older edit and know some of its text, you can try searching for the deleted text in article history: click "view history", then "Revision history search" and enter some search text from the lost content.
