- What's going on?
- There has been a longstanding edit conflict between practitioners of Falun Gong (FLG), people vehemently hostile to FLG and perhaps as many people again in the middle. The page has been locked now for several months, so the edit wars have spread to many ancillary articles, such as Li Hongzhi. We have previously had an informal mediator whom everyone agreed on (but very few listened to) who unfortunately ran into some trouble with members of the formal mediation committee over Checkuser requests he had made and quit the project. We also have a stalled request for mediation[1] that is missing one editor (who hasn't edited since Aug. 3rd) and is likely to be rejected therefore.
- What would you like to change about that?
- We would need a neutral editor to propose ground rules for the contextual language used in and suitability of sources cited for the article(s).
- Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
- No, I'd like this to be as public as possible. My email is down for another week or so (I've just moved) but I may be reached at my talk page.
Mediator response
[edit]I will be glad to take this case WikieZach| talk 20:36, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Wikizach - I'm not going to mediate in this case because I don't think I can be neutral, but is mediation even possible for an entry about Falun Gong? Given the controversy, I don't think true mediation is possible, regardless of whether you ask the ArbCom, the MedCab or any other party. Think about it - how many people can have truly neutral views on both the CCP and FLG, as well as have a relatively centrist political inclination (ie not pro- or anti- human rights / 'freedom of religion') and not be involved in the matter in some way (eg through ethnicity) yet be sufficiently knowledgeable? - I think that mediation can never fully work, but it's worth a shot. That's why the cabal exists. WikieZach| talk 15:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
