Portal:Dravidian civilizations (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Deceptively poor quality, abandoned portal. Needs WP:TNT.

First glance looks good. Layout all works. Plenty of pages in Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Dravidian civilizations.

So press the purge button. Nothing changes. Try again. No change. Etc.

It turns out that:

All those pages date from 2013.

Looking at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Dravidian civilizations, it seems that after the portal was first created in 2007, it used a labour-intensive monthly-selection model, which was only updated about 3 times until 2012, then abandoned in 2013 in favour of static set of selected topics which wasn't actually a set at all, just clones of the same thing.

This is not my subject area at all, and the B-class head article Dravidian people is bit confusing. Maybe I just need to spend longer studying it.

But I assume that this topic covers a big chunk of south Asian history, so that in theory a portal could be made on this topic. But the current portal is useless, so I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT without prejudice to recreating a curated portal which is not an automated fork of another page, in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. • Delete - Is creating a portal with a minor edit reason to delete it? No. But the other reasons listed by BHG are, and that this is an abandoned heritage portal by an inactive editor, and it doesn't work, as if portals work anyway. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:24, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, unless someone comes forward to attempt to fix it. A modern population of 245 million seems a reasonable topic for a portal, and I'm glad I clicked on Dravidian architecture, but sadly in this state the portal is not worth preserving. Usually maintainers managed to translate the monthly hand-update system into the randomised subpage system without too much difficulty, and if someone can be found to maintain it there seem to be several monthly updates that could be rescued. • Delete - Old portal, 77 subpages, created 2007-08-17 07:00:38 by User:Wiki Raja. What a shame that pages are repeated! Nothing to be kept in this deceptive fake. Without prejudice to the creation of a decent portal. Portal:Dravidian civilizations. Pldx1 (talk) 22:36, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
