Repeatedly abandoned static portal.
History:
- Created[1] in 27 July 2013 by Greyshark09 (talk · contribs)
- Speedy deleted on 20 May 2018 per WP:P2, by Maile66, after being tagged[2] by @The Transhumanist (TTH)
- Re-created[3] on 5 July 2018 by Greyshark09 (talk · contribs), following the disscussion at User talk:Maile66/Archive_8#Portal:Mandatory_Palestine
- Converted[4] on 22 January 2019 to a fully-automated portal by TTH, drawing its article list solely from Template:Mandatory Palestine topics, of which it was therefore a redundant fork wgich is clearly deprecated. (For a full explanation of why this type of portal is redundant, see the two mass deletions of similar portals: one, and two, where there was overwhelming consensus of a very high turnout to delete a total of 2,555 such portals).
- Restored[5] to the manual version with subpages by BHG on 10 May 2019
As it stands, this portal has a purge button, which is next to useless, because the only subpage type to have more than one option is the DYKs. See Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Mandatory Palestine:
- Portal:Mandatory Palestine/DYK/1 and Portal:Mandatory Palestine/DYK/2 each of which has only one entry, and would better combined into a single page
- Portal:Mandatory Palestine/Selected biography/1, unchanged since creation July 2018
- Portal:Mandatory Palestine/Selected article/1, also unchanged since creation July 2018
- Portal:Mandatory Palestine/Selected picture/1, also unchanged since creation July 2018
WP:POG#How_often_to_update? says that unless automated, the content selection should be updated monthly, or preferably weekly. But this portal has never been updated or have rotation of content apart from when it was a deprecated navbox-clone.
Wikipedia has lots of coverage of Mandatory Palestine, so in theory this is a broad topic. But in practice, its 6 years of neglect shows that it has actually satisfied WP:POG the requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". The maintainers have never appeared.
Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects". But this one has never been enhanced; it's a just a pale shadow the head article Mandatory Palestine.
After 6 years of abandonment, it is time to stop wasting the time of readers by luring them to this abandoned draft. So I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. - Delete with the usual silver bullet for a zombie portal. I don't think that the particular topic, which covers the period from 1919 to 1948, is a self-contained topic for a portal, because it is part of a longer history that is part of the explanation of the present-day tragedy, but that can be discussed later. - Delete as an unnecessary fork of the head article and as, due to a lack of maintenance, failing the purpose of portals as described by the nominator. SITH (talk) 12:43, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
