Portal:New York University (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Narrow topic, automated pseudo-portal.

This portal is based on a single university. As such it fails the requirement of WP:POG that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers".

In recent weeks, we have repeatedly deleted single-navbox portals for single universities, e.g. one here, one there, dozesn here, dozens more there. In this case, we are talking about the private New York University, not the much bigger State University of New York (SUNY).

This portal is built solely off the navbox {New York University}}, making it a WP:REDUNDANTFORK of the navbox. Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects", but this one is a significantly degraded version of the head article New York University, which serves as a better navigational hub.

Note that this portal was created by Happypillsjr (talk · contribs) in January as an old-style manual portal with subpages. But like most such portals it was broken (see the last manual version[1]), so @The Transhumanist converted it to the automated single-page format.

That's the story with so many portals: old-style broken, then new-style useless. The reality is that we need neither version, because the head article New York University is a vastly better portal than any permutation of these standalone pages.

So I propose delete, including all subpages. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:23, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - The portal platoon can't get their portals right regardless of whether they try the old approach or the new approach. So deletion is the best compromise between old and new. A single-institution portal anyway. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:53, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Automated portal, 20 subpages, created 2019-01-21 06:44:13 by User:Happypillsjr, useless navigation tool, redundant to the existing navboxes, and of lower quality: Portal:New York University. Pldx1 (talk) 13:09, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
