Driveby junk portal, created by @The Transhumanist (TTH). Contains a useless, uncurated subset of this topic, as an embedded list. It was created in a slapdash way I hadn't fully understood until yesterday, when I examined Portal:Shipwrecks (see MFD:Portal:Shipwrecks. Similar issues are invoved in MFD:Portal:Weasels and MFD:Portal:Peaches.
It goes like this:
- TTH creates a portal page, apparently using {{subst:Basic portal start page}}, which draws its "selected articles" list from
Template:{{PAGENAME}}
. - That either produces no list (as with Portal:Shipwrecks and Portal:Weasels), or else produces a clearly wrong list (e.g. Portal:Peaches used
Template:Peaches
, which was then the title of the since-disambiguated Template:Peaches (musician)) - To create a list, TTH then does a quick screenscape of the eponymous category, dumps that into the portal page's "Subtopics" section, and changes the list-making code to use the embedded list. In the case of Portal:Shipwrecks, that reads:
{{Transclude list item excerpts as random slideshow | paragraphs=1-2 | files=1 | more= | Portal:Physical fitness#Subtopics}}
- Press save, and key presto, an instant "portal".
In this case TTH created the portal with its "select articles" list drawn from Template:Physical fitness, which doesn't exist. So he screenscraped the 9 links from the woefully incomplete Category:Physical fitness, and moved on. 7 minutes work in all.
The 9 sub-topics are as displayed on the article:
Note the omission of even basic topics such as exercise. There was no editorial effort here, just spam to increase TTH's beloved portal count.
The head article Physical fitness has way more links, and some research could find lots more still. It depends where you draw the lines between fitness and sport, and between fitness and health. Given those overlaps, I am unsure whether this is a suitable topic for a portal.
In any case Physical fitness is only a Level 4 vital article, i.e. it is in the 1,001–10,000 range of priority topics. Given the very poor shape of many higher-priority portals, there is no reason to expect an influx of editors to build this one.
So I propose that this junk pseudo-portal be deleted without prejudice to creating a curated portal not based on a single navbox, in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:08, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Delete as follows:
- Recommend a topic-ban for TTH from portal space. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:53, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

- Carthago delenda est.
- This portal presents the same image twice. That is stupid.
- With or without prejudice. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:53, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- As BHG says, a slapdash method of portal creation that is "interesting" only in the sense that Spock would comment. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:57, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Delete what a weird collection of pages about this topic. Typical junk portal. Legacypac (talk) 02:18, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. I note the head article doesn't appear in the category, which appears to have been created in May 2018 but not properly populated (eg Fitness magazines & Fitness tests are not included). The head article uses the much more useful Category:Physical exercise. Espresso Addict (talk) 05:17, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Delete: drive by creation warrants drive by deletion, ironically it probably took twice as long for the nominator to put together this explanation than it did for the portal to be created. SITH (talk) 12:46, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
