The source said ©1997 - 2005 Kiruba.com. Take whatever you want is not clear enough to say that it is dedicated to public domain or any free license because: are we allowed to modify it? What license would be suitable? Note that the author still uses Copyright symbol, certainly it doesn't mean he released it into public domain. What we need is a clear proof, not so vague like this. Unused and orphaned logo from and article that was CSD G12 on February 12, 2008 Soundvisions1 (talk) 15:19, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Seems to me that we could just call this {{PD-textlogo}}, though honestly it'd be useless for anything except the subject. I'm not sure if we delete in that situation. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 06:37, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Since I first posted these (see the following 10 images all orphaned as a result of the same deleted article) images at IfD I have found they all can be easily CSD'd with one of the existing criteria. The logo, as you say, would be useless without the article. There is no reason to save it. Soundvisions1 (talk) 17:27, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unused, full frame photograph, of the painting West Side Walk by Allan Linder. No fair use rationale and licensed under "self" GFDL and CCL. I'm listing this here (in direct violation of the editnotice statement, sory) because the image was uploaded by Johnbuckman (see also John Buckman), an open-source advocate, who says that the copyright holder was present and agreed to freely license the image. Another user requested OTRS/website proof, but no one has yet provided this proof. My argument is that we should recognize that Mr. Buckman is truthful in his claim, and keep the image. The how-to guide at WP:COPYREQ says You should, however, basically assume good faith and judge for yourself whether a claim made appears credible or indeed does warrant following up with an attempt to have it confirmed. If some other pseudonymous user uploads an image, we may not really know the source and history behind it, but in this case, I think that we can trust this user. - Speedy Delete CSD i11.: The {{di-no permission}} was added and had expired when the above editor removed the notice. Thanks. Soundvisions1 (talk) 02:39, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- No, it had not expired; it was not after 14 November. Your arguments to delete are based on technicalities. Your i11 may now be technically correct (since it is now after 14 November), but, again, we'd be losing a good free image on a technicality. Why do you doubt that John Buckman received the permission he claims? WODUP 19:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. I see no reason to doubt the good faith of the uploader. WODUP is exactly correct in the above summary. Please also note that Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. IronGargoyle (talk) 01:08, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comments: Copyright law is the law, on or off Wikipedia. As far as I can tell Wikipedia does follow copyright law and, as any business should, attempts to keep records of any material that may not be fully legal for use. In that regards any person can uploaded any image and say "I did not take this picture but it is ok because..." but that does not mean it is really "ok". And should Wikipedia release a "Book of Authors" that featured this image on it's cover they would need to show the actual photographer and copyright holder had released it under the given free license. This is what the removed {{di-no permission}} tag was about - obtaining that permission. The very first thing that WP:COPYREQ says is we have to be sure all material is in fact licensed for that purpose, whoever provided it. The question asked of me is "Why do you doubt that John Buckman received the permission he claims?". I will reply with two answers - the first is by looking at the users prior copyvio warnings and deletions. The second in because "good faith" for a photograph is fine, however when the user clearly states it was not their photograph and that the copyright is not owned by them than an "Ignore all rules" argument, in any guise, will not work. If there are further questions about policy or guidelines regarding images, licenses or copyright they should be further addressed at those topic pages. Thanks. Soundvisions1 (talk)
- Please excuse my late reply; I haven't had too much spare time recently. As for your first answer, the uploader received some copyright warnings because he copies his source into Wikipedia, then rewrites or summarizes it, not because he intends to violate others' copyrights. The copyright warnings on his talk page: 1. Saqi Books was copied from [1] but deleted four minutes later, before he could work on it; 2. Nigel Watson, actor was copied from a section of [2], was rewritten into prose instead of the interview format used in the source, but was still deleted; 3. Frances Pinter was copied from [3] but then rewritten to avoid copyright issues; and 4. Peter Cox (OMLX) was a copy-and-paste move of an article that was originally written by another user. As for your second answer, that a user clearly states that a photograph isn't his, but that the copyright holder is present and agrees to license his work indicates to me that he is being truthful and did receive permission. I think it would be when an unknown user claims to own the rights that you might want to question that. Why tell the truth about not owning the image, but lie about permission? Further, the image seems to have been taken in the same set as the one on her web site, but I wasn't able to find this specific image there. This indicates to me that the uploader has had some relationship or communication with the subject or copyright holder, who must have provided him with the image. WODUP 23:08, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. It may or may not have relevance here, but the CSD i11 tagger--Soundvisions1--also nominated the user page of the uploader (User:Johnbuckman) for an extremely questionable MfD. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:50, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Reply to MfD comment: This is not the place to discuss the MfD, but it should be noted that this image was tagged prior to the article and it was because of this image the userpage was found. I looked over the users history it shows the editor to be a SPA making COI edits, thusly I felt the "I" profile/bio should be sent to MfD. This image, however, is not part of that discussion. Thanks.
